The manager Fred scams people into paying more than what they need. I got it checked for a check engine light and smoke check and they gave me a list of parts I needed costing $1,200. I got a second and third option from a auto part shop and Mercedes dealer and they told me they had found a zip tie holding my top coolant pipe to my coolant tank. Not to mention when I started my car it started to squeak which was never a problem before. I went back inside and asked about it and Fred had written it down and failed to tell me the additional problem. They create problems so you can bring it back to them. Worst location by far. The guy who did my oil change seemed nice, but the lady, Paulette R. needs training on customer service. She has an attitude and comes off like she's ready for an argument if you question their recommendations. Any time you're receiving a service you should also know the background of what you're paying for. I don't expect much from someone who would work at an establishment as such. But at least some customer service skills for paying customers. ALSO * check their website for coupons. They always have active offers. They were kind enough to give the older man a discount with a coupon since he was asking about rewards. But as soon as I went up with my coupon she didn't say a peep. Weird energy! Extremely disappointed in PepBoys!! I typically have a particular spot I get tires from, but in an emergency you do what you have to! After coordinating with PepBoys, their tire service dept AND.. AAA, I left work during rush hour to Uber to meet the tow truck, take it to PepBoys, Uber back to work, and then Uber BACK to PepBoys, I wait in an empty line for 7 mins only to be told that my car can't be worked on until tomorrow. THE ONLY reason I even brought it here was their exceptional customer service and willingness to help me TODAY! (3 HOURS they had to tell me they couldn't service it!!!!!) I'm sitting here on 12/5/21 it's 10:15 I had my appointment at 9am for a oil change. A worker just walked up to me to let me know a technician has arrived and my car should by done in 40 minutes. I'm just speechless right now! I haven't beeto this location because of passed experience it's been 4 years. Can you at least tell your customers hey I had my technician call out I don't have one showing up till 10 so I could make a decision if I want to wait or go. I am furious. I came here the other day because my car was due for an oil change and it was the closest place to me. I have never been here before, but I always thought that Pep Boys was known to be super reliable and had a good reputation. Unfortunately, this was not the case during my visit. I am normally afraid of going to any other oil change place than my normal Pep Boys in Orange County because I often get taken advantage of. When I saw that there was another woman working there, I felt a little bit of relief knowing that she may have been in the same position at one time. My appointment that I made was for the Mid-Tier, which was only supposed to be around $60 or so but I noticed that I was charged for over $100 for the platinum without any notice. Thankfully, I was able to use a 20% off coupon that I had but I shouldn't have had to do this in the first place. To make matters worse, a girl by the name of Martha came out and told me that my tires were incredibly worn down. She told me that I would be able to get my tires fixed there for $500 and a deal on my oil change but when I politely declined, she tried to intimidate me. She asked if I would be "taking the freeway home" and when I said yes, she told me "Goodluck" with that because my tired were in such bad shape. She made it seem like my car was almost un drive able due to the condition my tires were in. This instilled a huge amount of anxiety in me because I am terrified of anything happening on the road, which is why I decided to stop here in the first place instead of going back to my normal Pep Boys in Orange County. She went on about how dangerous they were but I didn't have the money at the time so I decided to risk it and stress the entire way home, driving in the slow lane and on edge. When I got home, I immediately asked my neighbor who is a mechanic to check my tires for me. He said that they were in perfect condition and Martha had no idea what she was talking about. I decided to get a second opinion the next morning from the Honda Dealership themselves and again, perfect condition. With all that being said, are you kidding me? Is this how you treat customers that pay a good amount of money to support your establishment? You guilt trip them and then use intimidation tactics to gain their business? This should be looked into immediately because I know that there are other people out there who will spend money they don't need to because they are in fear of their lives getting back home. This is absolutely unacceptable and it makes me question the integrity of Pep Boys. If you are looking for an oil change or to have any type of maintenance done on your car, please go somewhere other than this awful place. read more

Brought my car in because I believed there was something wrong with a passenger side wheel bearing. Waited three hours for a call before calling myself. They told me it was not a wheel bearing but probably something with the transmission. Took the car to Aamco in Burbank. Turns out - wheel bearing was broken. I recently moved to LA and needed to have my brakes fixed. They found I had a broken control arm strut. After giving me an estimate they wanted to charge me nearly $1500 after I paid $500 for brakes. The lobby also had no seating and they took forever to work with customers. I took my car to the Subaru dealership and they were willing to make the repair for $250. I had my brakes worked on around a year ago at this location and then a few weeks ago, there was a noise when going down hills. I read that it sometimes happens when the brake caliper was overheating, something they had not done before. When I went there, first there was a glitch as we had changed the license plate after an accident. Fortunately, Fred the person at the front desk did his diligence and traced it back. Then they worked on it and rotated my tires and pretty much did for free (I did ask for a cleaning of part of the engine for a small amount). Later Martha, who also works at the front desk called me as I had left a wheel lock behind. Over all a good location, and nice folks at the desk and competent mechanics in the shop. Kudos to Jefferson who took my car. I had work on my BMW. Had about $500 of minor maintenance issues. I needed a wheel lock to get brake work done. I couldn't find it and he called the local BMW to get a replacement so that I could get my wheels off. He did this without asking because it just had to get done. Went above and beyond. For that he makes PEP boy's look good. I yeah The same work at BMW would ha e cost over a $1000. So I saved money at pep boys. read more

I went in for a simple battery replacement. I have a Chevy Truck and the battery is easily accessible. They charged $209.99 for the battery and $174 to replace the battery. Took him a total of 10 minutes to do. Online, it clearly states battery replacement is $14.99. I called the Manager, Fred Tarverdian, after I got home and reviewed my receipt. Before telling him about the over charge, I asked him what a batter install will cost. He said $14.99 or maybe $20. "Battery Installation is $14.99 with a battery purchase for most vehicles excluding the following: a. High Voltage primary batteries in electric & hybrid vehicles b. Batteries that require installation time longer than 30 minutesBatteries that require installation time longer than 30 minutes will accrue a $10 charge per tenth of an hour required. c. Vehicles that require that the battery be electronically reset to the vehicle computerSome batteries may not be offered for some vehicles A shop supply fee will be an additional charge (except in NY & CA) of 9.99% up to $35.00. Each individual work order will identify and apply any applicable shop supply charge." Then I proceed to tell him about my error. My invoice clearly had a charge of $14.99 to replace battery, but had a charge of $209.99 for battery purchase and another $174 charge for Another battery purchase. Went in to get an assessment for an alignment. Felt like what I got was an upsell. They recommended many other services for my new/used car based on just the lights that the panel had on it. Because the tire light was on they recommended sensors for each of my 4 tires - costing over $500! An oil change because the light was on even though the problem is with a broken panel. Well, guess I paid $2,000 for them to break my car. Took it in for a timing belt issue which they said would be $2,000 to replace. Okay, whatever. Left it a couple days at the shop because I guess they were busy. Got it back, and a couple days later as I'm accelerating on Victory, there's a huge pop in the engine. Car is smoking, gushing fluid, and violently shuddering. I take it back in, and apparently they installed a defective part. Okay, whatever. Had them fix it. Naturally, after they fixed it, it began violently shuddering again. I bring it in, and the replacement part was defective too. Oh, and so was the camshaft sensor. Oops? Okay, whatever. Brought it in for them to fix it again. After a few days, I picked the car back up. Of course it was still shuddering, and now there was a new noise! Great! Took it in again to get fixed -- the fourth time, for those keeping track. Get this: they say that, somehow, it has NOTHING to do with all the defective parts and misdiagnoses on their part. Oh, and they want us to pay $400 more. Well, guess my truck will be shuddering forever. Thanks a bunch, Pep Boys. I don't know if you're scamming us or incompetent, but I'm not paying $400 MORE for you to fix the mistakes YOU made. Maybe I'm the idiot for taking it to you guys in the first place. Oh wow. These guys saved my day! My cars' battery died about 5-10 min of walking distance from their store - they were kind enough to walk with me to get my car started & got me straight to service even though it was almost closing time (Thanks, Ben!) . I really like that they were very straight up about everything, from looking up battery prices in other stores just so I know that what I'm paying is actually a good deal, to letting me watch & even breaking down the installation process cause I'd like to know how to do it myself. Also, the entire process probably took about 30 min, which I was super-happy about as I was running late to a meeting. Super-grateful for my experience & couldn't recommend this store any more!
