I have never had a negative experience with pep boys they are always professional very honest and helpful if you don't need work done on your car they'll tell you. I did get my brakes to done there before and for the most part it was done okay I had to go back and they had to do something to him to make them work but otherwise they were very nice about it. read more

Beep beep ... I just want my car's horn to go beep beep, its engine to go vroom, and its lights to turn on. Oh, and I do not want to be ripped off when my car needs some help going beep beep and vroom! I discovered this Pep Boys location because I needed a new headlight (Wouldn't you know those car manufacturers make it almost impossible to install a simple little light without ripping your skin off.). The guys in the back were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful!! Wow the trifecta ... and I was out the door much quicker than anticipated. Now I should have guessed that when one light goes the other is about to burn out so back to Pep Boys. Same type of quality service but with a slightly longer wait time, which allowed me to watch and listen as the guys interacted with other customers. I discovered that it wasn't my charm nor my million dollar smile that caused these guys to be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They were that way to every customer. Phone calls and in person ... good news and bad ... this repair/tire shop is customer oriented even when the customers don't return the favor. The service waiting area is as clean and pleasant as any other. Be very careful where you park!!!! What appears to be an obvious parking lot for Pep Boys is instead a tow away zone for the next business down Broad so you might come in to get your car worked on only to find it missing. Thankfully, I haven't had any real problems to bring here but as I get ready to drive away today with a new battery (Installed free) I am smiling. The wheels on my car are going round and round ... my horn is going beep beep beep ... and all of my lights are working! The best part is the pleasant conversation I had with the guys. Now Pep Boys Labor costs run a little high (no charge for battery service, which was awesome) but my guy was able to find $30+ in discounts, which was a nice Christmas gift! Terrible Shady Shop! - 0 STARS - Incompetent I went in to have my battery replaced. I found one online that was available at their store. They still charged me more than their website advertised and talked me into a battery and alternator diagnostic ($30). 24 hrs later the brand new battery was completely dead. I got it jumped and brought it back to them. They told me it's my alternator (That they checked to be good 24 hrs earlier) and it will cost me $1200 to replace. I immediately took it to another shop. The new shop found that Pep Boys had put excessive anit-corrosion spray on the battery posts and it wasn't making a connection. They scraped it off and tested my alternator. Now everything worked. They caused the problem and tried to charge me $1200 for a part I didn't even need. Run away!!!!! read more

Had an appointment made weeks in advance. Showed up before any worker was there. The guy who showed up to open was like 45 minutes late, he told me he couldn't do my car that day despite the appointment. Went to Meineke, without an appointment, got it done. I go to Meineke now. They used to be good and nice. No longer is that the case. It's sad.. Covid killed another good business ..The workers just don't care anymore. read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my sister's experience. My sister was driving into town for my son's baptism when she got a flat tire 5 mins from the church. Her roadside assistance came out and put a donut tire on. She then drove down the street to Pep Boys. She communicated the issue and that she was just visiting from 3 hours away. (1) They said that because she had an AWD car, they would probably need to replace all 4 tires. Her tires were 5 months old and under warranty with Subaru. They told her they would keep her updated. (2) She didn't receive an update for hours and they never updated the app, except to say it would be done 8 hours later at 7:45pm. (3) Around 4:00, about 5 hours after the car was dropped off, they called to tell her that they didn't have a single tire for her car and couldn't help unless she found someone who had her tires. She was stranded. She then had to scramble to call other tire places to try to find her tire. On a Sunday. (4) She called back to confirm her tire size and was put on hold for 20 minutes. They never did answer, before she eventually hung up and contacted Subaru. We had her car towed to a Subaru dealer 20 miles away who remedied the issue almost immediately. I wish we would have known of Pep Boys' incompetence earlier and saved her a train ticket and the headache. I understand that things happen, and schedules can be challenging. However, the lack of urgency, understanding, and effort are inexcusable. We will never again recommend Pep Boys. read more

Made an appointment for basic tire maintenance 3 weeks ago. They forced me to reschedule twice. When they finally did allow me to keep an appointment for 10 am today I dropped the car off at 9:40 and left to do errands till 1pm. When I returned to check on my car it hadn't been moved from its spot. The man at the desk told me the "technician" just went out to lunch and it would be about another 90 mins before he did anything. I patiently left again and and went home. No call. I returned at 5:30 and the same guy was at the desk. My car had still not moved from its spot. The man at the desk didn't even apologize. Only repeated "we only have one technician today" twice. I took my truck in for a serpentine belt change. Very simple job. The belt was installed completely wrong and was squealing like crazy immediately upon picking it up. It's amazing that the tech thought this was done correctly given the sound. Long story short I called the location several times and the corporate pep boys customer service and I was never contacted about making this right. Every time I call I am given an excuse and told to call back another time. It's been 2 months now and the company has refused to do anything to make it right. This job cost me $175 dollars and I ended up having to do it myself. I would never recommend this pep boys to anyone looking for more than an oil change and tire rotation. 0/10 customer service for this location and pep boys corporate. I dropped my car off because my headlights were very dim. This was after a phone call to see if they do this type of work. I left it and was told I would get a call regarding their findings. The NEXT DAY I called to see what was happening. They couldn't find my keys, were talking about tires (???) and then told me my headlights worked. I went and picked up the car because they were clueless. The manager told me there was nothing left about the car for him to know what was wrong. I scheduled an appointment for an oil change for 530 at this location. I live over 30 minutes away but I really need the oil change so I figured I'd drive out there. When I arrive there, I walked in and the receptionist was busy helping other customers. I got up to the desk and he told me they were closing an hour early at six even though they're posted time to close is at seven. He told me they dont look at the appointments from their websites either and that I was just wasting my time. He refused to help me and told me to come back tomorrow which I can't do because I live so far away. He wouldnt even let me leave the car overnight to be looked at tomorrow. He rudely said 'i understand whatever goodnight' after i told him i couldn't drive that far again. read more

I used to shop here all the time when I was fixing up clunkers. Kinda fell away from that when I bought a new car that I only took to the dealer for service. Once the warranty ran out however, I needed to get things fixed and replaced on my own. I had been taking my car to my local mechanic for things like thermostat replacement, tune-ups and oil changes but when my battery started to fail during the cold weather I shopped around online and found Pep Boys had good prices on decent batteries. I called ahead and they said I did not need to make an appt. I also printed out a coupon for an oil change since it was getting close to that time and had them do both. Had a new 6 year battery (2 year free replacement) installed and a full service oil change for 140 bucks done in around 45 minutes. Fast friendly service at a good price. read more

1. When I picked up my car, I started it. The radio came on. It was on some awful music station that I would never listen to. Either the mechanic was running my battery out entertaining himself all weekend while he worked on my car or was joy riding instead of test driving. I listen to news radio and make sure to turn it off before I exit the car. There is absolutely no reason your mechanic should be touching my radio. 2. I pulled to the back of the parking lot, stepped on the brakes to look both ways before pulling out onto the street and the crunching noise was worse than before plus there was a new noise, a wooshing as if a belt were coming loose from a tire. These new tires were put on by Pep Boys in July. It was almost close of business, I needed my car to drive my grand children to school the next morning and I was too angry to speak, so I just left. Short of your refunding labor charges for unnecessary work imposed on my, I have no reason to come back to your establishment. read more

I wanted to inform you of my experience at Store # 53, 137 S Broad St Woodbury NJ. I was looking for a headlight for my 2013 Chevy Equinox, and went on-line to find and purchase 2 bulbs, Order Number 1512371480. I was offered installation for $20.00 additional, but declined since I figured I'd pay for installation when I picked up the bulbs. However, when I went to the service counter, they could not install the light bulb, but offered to schedule my the following day, Sunday, January 26, 2020 @ 11:00 AM. When I arrived and told there service desk I was here for an appointment, I gave the service counter the light bulb and was told it would be few minutes and the cost for installing the bulb would be about $97.00 (Service Work Order 2196380). I have issues with not informing the consumer that if they decline selecting installation for $20 that the cost would be much higher, $97. If I was aware of this practice, I would have selected the $20 option. I'm sorry that you're company is practicing deceptive pricing that is costing the consumer money. read more

Never go there again I took my daughter's car in for a front end alignment and to swap out a damaged rim. Got a call 2 hours later telling me the "technician" (SF) recommended replacing both the inner and outer tie rods on both sides. He said the driver's side was bent and the passenger's side was seized. We took the car home. The estimate was $790. My husband had already replaced the driver's side tie rods prior to going to Pep Boys. The passenger side was not seized and in fact showed no signs of having been touched with a tool of any kind. The bolt was still covered in dust and dirt. It was very obvious the "technician" never even tried to align the car. We took pictures. We took the car to Tire Corral on Lincoln Street in Woodbury who promptly aligned all 4 tires for under $100. I would recommend you save yourself some aggravation and go to Tire Corral. read more

Rip offs. Took my car in 3:30 yesterday for my tire that was leaking. At 10:30am today I got a call saying that my tire had a hole to close to the side and they'd have to replace the whole tire. Now I normally don't take my car here for anything big, I just thought it needed to be patched and I live really close. I asked how much and was and was told that my other tires needed to be changed soon and for the 4 it would be $411. I asked for the price to replace one tire and was told $230. I went and got my car because I have a normal tire place that I take my car to. When I took it and the car was looked at I was told there was no hole, just a valve that was loose due to the weather, but other then that my tires were perfectly fine. I'm so grateful I went to that other place and saved all that money it. read more

They are a mess. Not requiring people to wear masks. I watched a lady with her mask barely over her mouth and not over her nose and no said anything to her. The waiting room is a nightmare. 4 chairs in a tiny area with NO social distancing available. I had an appointment and it was over an hour before they even started. What's the point of an appointment during this pandemic!!! I will over pay at Firestone next time so my life was t in jeopardy. You all should know better, do better to care for ur customers. I called Pep Boys Friday night and explained that I had a diagnostic ran on my car and read to him what I was told needed to be done. I had a very bad sore throat so maybe the guy explained it to couldn't understand what I was saying because what can shaft sensor needed to be replaced he kept telling me there were 3 different ones and that they needed to run a diagnostic themselves for the price of $69.00. I made an appt.then I proceeded to to cvs to do something about my throat. I called pep boys back with a much clearer voice because I really didn't need to pay for a diagnostic when I just had one done i explained it to whomever i got the second time and they asked me a couple of questions and said I might simply just need my oil changed as I've never had it changed before. I kept the same appt. and I arrived on time Sunday morning. When I got there all the fellas were kind of standing around and talking in the work area ignoring me like I just wasn't there when one of them finally did acknowledge me he proceeded to tell me that I couldn't get the oil changed (must have been the 1st. guy I talked to on friday) and that I would have to get them to do a diagnostic test for me for $103.00!!! (What happened to the $69.00 test). I guess their prices rose in two days!!!!. And that "if I didn't want to get the diagnostic done at Pep Boys I could just go to meinike and get them theo do the oil change job." "No problem" I said and left immediately. I hate i didn't ask what the price of the oil change was in Friday because I'm dying to know if that changes by Sunday as well!! Never going back there again. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I had work done there before that was okay but I'm wondering did I get over charged back then. read more

My opinion on this shop is that if the location is convenient for you, go here for simple repairs. But avoid for air conditioning or anything equally complicated. The long and short of it is that they were honest (after being proven wrong) and were fair enough to give a full refund when they could not complete the repair properly after several attempts. here's my story: 1st trip: My wife's car began blowing hot air, so I took it in to get the AC fixed. A couple hours and a few phone calls later, they told us the price. I gave them the go-ahead. A couple hours later we got the call that they were finished replacing an O ring and refilling the refrigerant. So we picked up the car, drove it home, and the air was already blowing hot again. 2nd trip: So we made an appointment for a few days later and took it back. I was understanding; these things happen, and AC repair isn't easy. They fixed it again and we picked it up. I was certain that they'd have been more thorough this time around; it's one thing to make a mistake but it's something else entirely to fail to correct it properly. But sure enough, it was blowing hot the next morning. 3rd trip: So we made an appointment for a few days later and took it back a third time. This time I asked to speak with the manager directly. I asked him if they were going to be more thorough this time around; he replied by saying that they WERE thorough last time, and replaced not only the faulty O ring but a hose as well. He went so far as to say that there was no leak when the car left the shop. This irked me so I told him that there must have been a leak, otherwise the car wouldn't be blowing hot air. Unless he's implying that I poked a hole in it for no reason. (He did not acknowledge this comment) So he took the car into the shop begrudgingly, seemingly assured and annoyed that I was simply mistaken. A few hours later his tone was completely different; he was all smiles once he found that I had been right after all. The pep-boys brand hose that they had put in was leaky. But the bad news was that they didn't have a second one; they had to order it from the dealership and it would take at least 5 days to arrive. So I took the car home to just tough it out. In the meantime, my wife was not happy about having to wait this long. She's 6 months pregnant in 95+ degree weather and was using this car to pick our toddler up from daycare! After another phone call, the regional manager agreed to give her a partial refund to go toward a car rental. This helped settle us for the meantime. 4th trip: It was a full 2 weeks between the 1st visit and this one, but finally the part arrived. They took the car in. They repaired it. They tested it. They made damned sure it was working this time. I even let them keep it overnight to test it in the morning, and they made double-damned sure it was working. So they say, anyway, because not 6 hours after I took it home, it was blowing hot again. Whatever the cause, I called them up one last time and told it failed again. They told me they couldn't figure out what the problem was, so I told them I'd lost confidence in their shop; they'd had their chance and I was taking my business elsewhere after they refund my money. They gave us the full remainder of our money back without any further resistance, and they even refunded the cost of the oil change we had gotten (I did not ask for that, but it was nice of them). This is the only reason I'm giving them any stars; they recognized their own failure and gave me my money back in the end, which was the fair thing for them to do. A few other thoughts: In my opinion, the 1st and 2nd trips were half-assed. Simply replacing a couple of parts and saying "good enough" isn't thorough work! Especially the 2nd time; since they were fixing a mistake, they should have treated it with more importance. It wasn't until the 4th trip, when they put in the factory-fresh part, that they actually took the time to really test it and make sure they did proper work. But it took them two failed attempts and countless cc's of wasted refrigerant to make this enough of a priority for them to actually put in an acceptable level of effort! It may not have worked out afterward, but at least this time they actually TRIED. But in my opinion this is what they should have done the FIRST time I took the car in. This is why I won't be returning for any major repairs but may still use them for minor maintenance (simply because they're around the corner). read more

Had my car towed there when my alternator died to have them give me a price of $1250 for the alternator, new battery and 6 hours of labor...seemed really high so I called another location where my alternator is now being fixed for $460 and two and half hours of labor. Oh and my battery "that I ran down from driving with bad alternator and needed to replace"? Oddly enough, doesn't need to be replaced because it's only a year old and works perfectly fine. The six hours of work makes sense since when I went to get my car I saw one guy in the garage texting and smoking a vape pen, and then while my brother and husband were jump starting my car to move it to the other shop, two sat and watched from the garage. read more

I will never return to this Pep Boys - or any of them for that matter, most likely. I feel incredibly ripped off by my recent experience here and it's turned me off from the entire franchise. One of my windshield wipers stopped working so I brought my car in. The employee working the front counter was not at all friendly or courteous - he was pretty off-putting actually - so I felt a little wary from the start. The waiting room has a glass wall with the shop on the other side, so I saw them bring my car back and check it out. The tech looked at my car for 8 minutes - literally, 8 minutes - and I was charged for a $44.99 "electronic evaluation" + a "shop fee" of about $3.50 + tax. So for 8 minutes of my car being inside their shop, I had to pay about $51. I felt (and still feel) extremely ripped off by this. They gave me their diagnosis and an estimated repair cost of nearly $400 (part + labor + shop fees + whatever else). I said absolutely not and left with my car (after paying my $51 of course). I took my car to a local non-chain shop and just got it back yesterday, spending under $200 for the part + labor. And I wasn't even charged for them to look under the hood and diagnose the problem! I hope anyone reading this review will be discouraged from patronizing this Pep Boys, or even others for that matter. read more

HORRIBLE service from techs, not counter people. Brought the car for tires, alignment and oil change. When I got in the oil and tire light was on. When I told the tech he replied "I put enough in" with an attitude. It was OVER a quart low. Tire pressure was low, alignment is worse now than when I took it in. Next week I got a flat near the shop. They were the only place open. They told me 2 1/2 hour wait. After 2 hours the techs were watching football. I asked where is my car. I made a service appointment for a tire that looked like it was going flat - I selected a 6pm appointment from the website since that was the soonest I could get there from work. I received a call from the store about an hour after the appointment, saying they "had too much work" and couldn't service my car tonight. Well, I have "too much work" and my boss still expects me to work until closing time! If they have available appointments they should be honored. This place is horrible. They spent three hours completing an alignment on a car that had front end damage. I didn't know at the time it had damage. I know a bit about cars so before an alignment is completed the person is supposed to check the ball joints, control arms etc to make sure they are properly working. They didn't tell me till after and charged me. I got my money back after calling corporate. Then my mechanic got an alignment there after he completed my front end. They didn't do it properly and my drivers wheel was turning to the right when I drove and at one point the control arm slipped a bit. My mechanics took it back and they said they couldn't do it and gave them their money back. Now I have to wait to get this properly fixed. Does anyone work there that's competent? read more

Have gone to this place now and then for the last few years. Have done a decent job. Have a problem though recently; dropped off car for window adjustment. They could not get the parts so job incomplete. Had to wait a week for this result. Not happy but whatever. Then there was a diagnostic fee of over $50 for trying to get the window fixed and finding parts. Had I know this was the case that I would be charged just for them to look around, would not have gone to them. And the final blow was that they broke or disconnected my emergency brake somehow, and when I called about it after finding out from driving home, they couldn't give a straight answer and was even doubting if it came in without this problem. Are you serious?! Almost forgot that when I just dropped off car to guy who would fix, he even mentioned how the brake pads were very rusted and material was some crappy grade that does not work properly and is a hazard on the road. These brake pads were from PEPBOYS, and installed last summer. CONGRATS YOU JUST LOST A CUSTOMER!! DO NOT SHOP HERE FOR ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES. Retail is okay but overpriced. I recently went into this Pepboys where I received excellent service from a guy named Nick. If only I could have dealt with just Nick my rating would be much higher. But unfortunately I had to deal with a little guy wearing glasses who was so rude I nearly walked out. From the time of my arrival he shouted, "what do you need?". I looked around wondering with whom he was speaking, only to realize it was me. I told him I was picking up my vehicle and needed pay my bill. I paid with a credit card and presented him my card along with my photo id. In return he said to me and a room full of customers that he could be a real (you know what) and not accept my payment due to lack of signature. I explained that I showed my id and that I did not feel comfortable signing my credit card. We are told that we should refrain from signing it in the event it goes missing. He handed me my paperwork and said, "okay you're done." I wanted to say, no you are the one who is done because I will never be back nor will I ever recommend such an unprofessional company.
