I discovered a flat tire the other morning and decided to go to Pep Boys since they were close to where I lived. The gentleman at the desk served me quickly and politely. The only downside to the whole experience was that they said they could not service the car until 2pm (I brought it in at 830am). So I left the car with them and departed. Fortunately they called a little before noon saying that it was done (yay 2 hours early). The cost to repair the flat was under $30. My daughter got her tires fixed here 2 weeks ago. Someone had slashed her 2 tires. First they said they had to order them . She had to spend the night in PA for the tires to arrive . Than they told her tires would arrive before 10 am and they finally got there after 12. Than it took them 4 hrs to change 2 tires. At the end they told her 580 and she gave them the card. They gave her the keys and she was heading back to NY when they called her to tell her that she needs to pay more and the services were now 630 not 518?!? Are you insane ? Well bottom line is they never charged her card and now they tried to get her back there to cover their mistake .... Totally unacceptable !! I will never recommend such services !! read more

Bring a pillow. You are going to be there all day. They waste your time. Appointment was at 9am for 4 tires. Already ordered, there in the store and paid. All they had to do was install. They finished at 11:45 am. They wasted time with a vehicle inspection that was not asked for and told not wanted. Just put the tires on. Asked if they could check the psi in the spare tire since they are replacing all 4 tires and it would be up on a lift. Told no. They refuse to do anything with the spare. Didn't ask them to take it off. The vehicle is up on a lift. How hard is it to check the air in a tire? Really, how hard is that? Poor customer service and appreciation. Can't go that extra mile to keep customers happy and coming back. I have no plans on coming back after they refused to check the psi in my spare time, wasted our time making us wait for a unwanted and not needed vehicle inspection. And the fact it took almost 3 hours to put 4 tires on. After waiting for 2 1/2 hours, asked them how much longer. Was told should be done soon ( took another 30 mins to finish. 30 mins isn't soon ) and given a bunch of excuses. Like they had a lot of people come in the same time, etc. But there tracking link to track the job shows they haven't even started the job. Our appointment was at 9am. That means you start working at 9am. Not after. Not start then go to another job. You make an appointment, you start the job at that time and finish it. What's the point of making appointments if you can't do the job? Complete waste of time. Overcharged on tire disposal. Kept one tire but charged for disposal for 4 tires. Highly NOT recommended. Long story short, they gave us the wrong tire to keep. When I called, Jay was very rude and hung up on me when I asked for a manager. Went in and spoke with Craig. He helped get the right tire and said he will let his dm know. He admitted the installer messed up. Also, when I went in and was talking to the manager, this employee Jay, rudely interrupted me. I asked the manager to speak in private and we did. Finally heard from the company on 3/10/26. There customer service is sad. I contacted them like they asked and nothing happen. Had to file a BBB complaint which took a month to get someone to call me about who refused to give his name or title. He refused to do anything and defended the employee rudeness and allows the employees to disrespect customers. Defended the manager for not taking action when the employee was rude and disrespectful to customers. Defended the long wait times and sees no issue in that. This company is the worse. Stay far away from them and go elsewhere. They do not care about customers and allow the staff to disrespect you freely. read more

This location prides itself on terrible customer service. Between the half a*# work, inconsistent communication, Jay's funky attitude & Wyatt's inability to manage this location. Save yourself the hassle and find a more reputable place. We were told one price and charged $380 more. My car was left on a lift for 3 days while they said they were trying to find a hose they previously said I didn't need. They rigged up a rubber hose when the car required a metal hose. When I asked why the repair that was initially quoted 30 mins?.. Jay exploded yelling at me about how difficult it is to repair. When I spoke with the manager Wyatt he said "Well Jay Is Straightforward what do you want me to do?" when I let him know I would be filing a complaint with corporate he said corporate would refer the the issue back to him. I took the car to another location where they showed me the shotty work done and the clips placed on the tire rods that actually require bolts. I dropped my truck off on Friday night for 8am appointment Saturday for the upgraded 1 year wheel alignment! 8am was the earliest time so i could get the truck back in a timely manner as i had things to do. They took until almost 4pm to do the so called alignment! I go to pick up the truck and pay, and the bill is $100 cheaper than it should be! I asked why it was so cheap, as i was supposed to get the 1 year alignment? I was told, "Oh, they only did the basic alignment. Thats what was on the paper"! Okay, so i paid and walked out. I get in the truck and look at my paperwork he gave me and IT CLEARLY STATES 1 YEAR ALIGNMENT right on it! I shouldve gone back in, but i was already pissed, and it would've only gotten worse had i gone back in! So i left. As im driving down the road, straight mind you, i let go of the steering wheel and my truck pulls to the right, almost driving off the road! I had to wait almost 2 hours for two tire repairs (yeah, i've been unlucky lately) and the manager told me it would be $30 per tire. This seemed absurd so I asked for a cash discount and he said yeah I can bump it down to $25 each. Then I come to the cashier when my car is ready, and I tell her about the cash "discount" and she looks at me like I have 2 heads and says "I'm not sure what you're talking about, it's only $21 per tire" for the trouble she did take off the $4-5 miscellaneous(?) charge, so thanks unknown pep boys cashier. Most of the work was done, but not completed. 1. Communications between a) front counter, b) mechanics' supervision, and c) mechanics themselves, and d) just calling into the shop in advance to make sure certain issues would be addressed ranged from incredibly inefficient to non-existent, as I had to repeat the same work issues to several people, despite them working in supposed tandem five feet apart; and parts I had requested in advance weren't ordered, and so consequently weren't available to be ordered, because it's now Saturday. 2. I came in in advance of my 9 a.m. appointment, and it's now 11:59, and they're only just getting it taken care of. 3. Any and all delays were not communicated to me as I waited in the waiting area; only when I wandered back into the front of the store did anyone give me an update. 4. There's no sense of customer service or even approachable friendliness. Everyone here that I've seen is just working their shift, waiting to go home. Plus they're avtively complaining about current customers with other customers. 5. Oh, and communication from the store overall: The business partner that had run the actual store inventory pulled out two months ago, with no one else yet to take over running the store's inventory. That's not a complaint, but what is is that while the store is cordonded off from any customers trying to shop, THERE AREN'T ANY SIGNS ANYWHERE, INSIDE OR OUT , OR EVEN IN THE FRONT WINDOWS, to let the public know this--customers wander in, are verbally told, and they leave. I serviced my vehicle at pep boys they did not rotate the tires on the oil change as indicated on the sales slip... very disappointing. I also had a issue with grinding while driving, when the employee called me to let me know he couldn't get the rear lugs off I told him that the noise was in the front. And that his technician should have rotated the tires the previous day when changing the oil... I had to tell him what was wrong with the vehicle for them to fix it. I called and spoke to a woman about buying oil at noon and she told me they had it in stock and I told her I'm 35 min away and didn't want to waste a trip because another location didn't have it. She told me I could come until 6PM. I got there at 5:10 and couldn't get in. The gentleman at the service desk told me I should go to advanced auto in stead. BEWARE!!! Came in because my abs, tsc lights all came on and I had a pulsating grinding noise when I was braking. I told them the lights would come on and go off intermittently. They took it in and then came back and said "you're cars not acting up for us so we can only guess it's the ABS pump or ABS censor" you gotta be KIDDING! We stopped in York for the night, so I got up early the next morning and went to the local Pep Boys as soon as they opened. The young lady working the counter ran a quick diagnostic on my vehicle, then had the senior mechanic verify that all was ok. They both went out of their way to help a traveler far from home. As far as routine maintenance and minor repairs go, Pep Boys works for me. They are reasonably priced, pretty quick getting the job done, pretty reliable. After a previous experience, I will probably avoid them for anything major. I had Pep Boys replace the alternator once, and I drove off only to find the same problems. I drove it back, the car worked fine while they checked it out and they told me everything should be fine. Things seemed to be until a few days later, and I brought it back in where they checked it out and told me once again that everything was fine. At this point I was frustrated and took my car elsewhere, where they tested things out and told me the alternator was bad. I told them it was only a few days old and they said I should have Pep Boys replace it. I took those test readouts to Pep Boys where they finally admitted the alternator was bad. They replaced it at no charge, and also credited my account the cost of what I had to pay at the other garage. Needless to say I was beyond impressed with them doing the right thing and they will keep getting my business for at least most minor issues or routine maintenance. read more

I want to start off by saying this is the best Pep Boys I have been to. The Service Manager, "Mike" is very polite and helpful. I came in to have four tires changed and balanced, a wheel alignment, and a state emissions and safety inspection. Mike did his best to get my order setup and also went over a road hazard warranty with myself which was added on immediately in case of future punctures. Let me say this, pay the $60 for the warranty. It is well worth it! If you plug a hole yourself, all you do is push a seal in from the outside and hope a pothole doesn't knock it in or rip it out. With the road hazard warranty, they take the tire off, patch it on the inside to prevent it from dislodging, remount the tire, and balance the wheel for you. On top of that, to plug a tire, you normally have to take the wheel off, so going through the time if yours is valuable is not worth it. Don't be cheap, just get the warranty. Going back to my service visit, my mechanic was, "Josh." Very professional and knowledgable man. I feel confident in letting him work on my vehicle. He was even able to get my ruptured tire of the wheel without any issues. I hope that it wasn't too much of an inconvenience to him. My vehicle was done in about two hours after finalizing the paperwork up front. I was very surprised at how quick it was done for all the things I needed. Very happy with the service, and easily going to be the place I will probably revisit as my new main shop once some of my vehicle coupons at other centers are all used up. read more

Don't trust for alignment! Purchased brand new tires and took my 09 Camry to this pep boys for alignment last May. Don't bother with this place unless you don't mind having the mechanic angrily accelerate your vehicle over the speed bump apparently as a means of working out his days frustrations. And if this does happen don't bother complaining unless you want the Regional Manager, Marty McTamney, to ignore you and delegate the complaint right back to the local managers who don't seem to care or even understand your complaint. Hook, Line, and Sucker. Pep Boys got me! My car started leaking antifreeze, so I called AAA and asked where to tow it. They said pep boys, so I went. They charged $40 just to look at it, and made me sign a paper to lock me into paying that... I had a bad feeling, but I just went with it because my car already got towed here and I can't really move it. Got a call later saying it would be $175 to replace ONE PIPE, in addition to the $40. $225 all together. They also said I needed 2 additional pipes replaced and a new radiator, totaling $900. heh. hehe. HAHAHA. No. Completely maddening. Called AAA, who came to the rescue, dealt with pep boys for me, and are currently towing my car to a better mechanic, who quoted me at $65 for labor, $20 for each new pipe. Fantastic. AAA, my heros. 5 minutes later I get a call from Pep Boys, letting me know my car will be held hostage until I pay the $40 for looking at it. I KNEW I had a bad feeling about that... So being a college student and new to the york area i decided to take my jeep for some brake work to pep boys not knowing any other places to go. Huge mistake. 700 dollars for new front rotors and for them to lay a brake line just on the front. After spending that kind of money on just the front brakes you expect it to be fixed. Well no i drove it back to york college and the front brakes seized up causing me almost to crash because it veered to the right. I called a tow truck had them take it back. They said they fixed it for no cost and so i went and picked it up again and the same thing happened. Called the tow truck again and had them fix it again. This time they said they needed me to get another part that they didnt have (why they didnt tell me this before idk) and so i went and got it. it was 100 bucks and they didnt refund me for it which ticked me off cus they already overcharged me for the brakes to begin with. So once they fixed i took it back and they didnt charge me to put it on which i wouldnt of paid them even if they tried. went into pepboys with a check engine light on. Got the free code pull they offer, well apparently when I left it there the light and code disappeared and essentially was called a liar by their staff. So a couple of weeks go on and same thing happened, except this time they found the code and asked if I wanted a diagnose test for 89.99 USD. I said yes, they found two sway bar links bad, a bad mass airflow sensor and a bad vapor canister valve. It cost me 967 usd, which is a ripoff and could have done it myself but the car kept stalling so I reluctantly paid the price. By price I mean that they screwed up the first time, told me it was a defective part the second time and did it for free, which they screwed up again and caused my car to emit gas vapor or liquid causing my whole apartment complex to smell like gasoline. I called them and they told I needed to tow it and currently am waiting for it to be repaired. i will update this review after that. read more

Went here to make sure everything was good with my car before we drove it across the country. They mentioned that my battery was going to need to be replaced soon. I went ahead and let them do it. However, when I got my car back all these lights were on my dash. The faulty airbag light and faulty seatbelt lights. Most of the workers were very helpful and trying to figure it out. Stephenie was rude though and claimed "she couldn't do anything" for me. So I got my car back in worse condition. Eventually, after complaining a lot, they agreed to pay for me to get it fixed at BMW because they didn't have the parts to do so. Took it to BMW and they told me that the mechanic at pep boys did not look under the hood at all or else they would have noticed that they didn't hook the BST cable back up. So I spent 3 days running around trying to get this fixed when they didn't even look or try to fix it in the first place. read more

My family and I were 300 miles from home on vacation. We had a flat resulting from a nail. No one was open on Sunday except The Pep Boys Automotive store. We put a donut on the SUV and drove to the store. Within 20 minutes of arriving, we were back on the road with a repaired tire. I said I run them studded on my other car and I love them. I said ill take them. and could you stud them also? he said no problem, that's just one of our many services we do here. he told me they are coming from another pepboys store and they would be ready tomorrow morning. as promised they were ready the next morning. this is the reason I still like going there to shop for tires. professionalism and service are always a given when I go there. read more

NEVER GO TO THE YORK, PA PEPBOYS! If I could give it zero stars, I would. I NEVER write reviews for anything but this has my so upset I can't help it. My husband's Nissan Maxima shut off less than a hundred yards from PepBoys, so against our better judgement, he barely got it up to the shop. He told them that the electric shuts off every few hundred yards, but it will start back up again. He talks to the mechanic who tells him, "the radiator fan is pulling from the battery and making it drained." BS! Why would it start up again? He also said there is a squeak when it starts and a belt needs replaced. My husband just PUT IT ON 3 DAYS EARLIER. It was NEW. It just needed tightened. My husband told them it was new, and they said, "oh, okay. I will adjust the quote." They ran diagnostic test and it showed cam sensor 2, and it was ON THE WORK ORDER. They later called and said they ordered the wrong radiator fan and it would be in tomorrow. (Mind you, the radiator fan was NOT the problem. This part and work cost almost $500.) They called this morning and said, "the car is done and ready for pick up. $839 total." Unbelievable. A radiator fan you can buy for about $180 and he could have installed himself in half an hour. Were charged almost 3 hours worth of labor. Charged $60 to TURN A BOLT on top of engine (the belt that they WANTED to replace that was NEW). My husband told them they cannot charge us double just because the fan is 2 blades because it is in ONE part, not TWO. They then said $660. We paid the $660 and my husband goes to pull out of parking lot, CAR SHUTS OFF within 20 feet. He walks back in and says the problem is NOT fixed. I payed you $660 and my car didn't even make it out of the parking lot!!!" They wanted to "take care of us," but we got it towed to our loyal mechanic who does a great job. I would never EVER take my car there again. They need to hire a real mechanic. If the diagnostic test said "cam sensor 2" and it was on the work order, WHY WAS IT NOT FIXED!? They're kidding me right!? We did not, like most other people, have $700 to just flush down the toilet and have to take it to another place to get the PROBLEM FIXED!
