But I asked when the repair person was supposed to come out and he tells me he's been waiting for weeks. I've been using this tailor for years. It is a fair criticism that if you need something done right away, find somebody else. He's a one-man team. But at the price he charges for the quality of work, I'll put up with it. I've taken my expensive suits (Italian, British, and American made) for repair and alterations, have never been disappointed. The owner (I think his name is Peter) is a super friendly, knowledgeable & experienced and very talented tailor. I've been going to Pepe's for many years now having mostly my semi-expensive purses repaired (rejuvenated) to maintain their functionality. Basically I put way too much stuff in them weighing them down so pockets rip and thick straps break! I wish that I could say that it is my heavy stacks-o-cash that wear them out but it if I did, it would be a lie! So here comes the part where I say his service is tops.... buuuuut the last purse (a cheaper [thankfully!] black Guess purse) that I dropped off to him - A YEAR AGO - he says that he did repair it, but he misplaced it and he needed some time to look for it! Wait, what?! in all fairness, I was about three weeks late, picking it up and his shop is well, let's just say - to him - it's probably an organized space, but to me, however, if it's organized, it's an organized mess. He's the only one that works there and he actually does have times where he's slammed with people dropping off and picking up. Okay, so it's not an expensive purse, but it was brand new - TJ Max special - (cheaply made) with a weak strap (literally hanging by a thread) and I really like it! I've been to the shop to follow up with him multiple times over the past year and still no purse. I called him 10 minutes ago and, well, he apparently had found it, but lost it again....???!!! When I called I thought for sure that since it's been so long, that with my luck, I would here him say something like he waited and waited but he had auctioned it off for $30 and then retired, but no, he apparently had found the purse after my last in-person inquiry and put it somewhere "safe" never to be seen since! Lost twice! I really do like the man, he's old-school-QUALITY, his stitch work is top notch and his prices are affordable and even though this experience has been challenging, overall, I still recommend his services because perhaps had I not been out of town so long and showed up within a reasonable amount of time since dropping off, it may not have been lost to begin with. A good friend of mine from high school recommended me this tailor shop. Since he was conveniently located in the south bay, I decided to give this guy a shot. At the time, I bought a lot of suits, and needed them tailored. I brought him all the suits, and in a matter of months had my suits ready. The only issue I had with the guy is that he takes longer than the estimated time. But I had other suits at home ready for use, so this was not too big of an issue. Since then, I started bringing everything to him: shirts, slacks, and hospital scrubs. He did a good job with everything except that last one. But that was not a big deal. One thing I like about Pepe is that he does not try to nickel and dime me. The guy I hired before him tried doing that, and you just shouldn't do that to your long-time customers. Not to give my age away, but Pepe (aka Peter) has been my tailor for well over 20 years when he used to be the tailor in the mens suits department at Bullock's (now Macy's) in Del Amo. My whole family knows Pepe, ever since my Mom had worked at Bullock's in the china, crystal and silver department. My recent pair of new slacks that he tailored in the length, the hem started to unravel on both pant legs. So I took it to Pepe for a re-do. He told me that it would be ready on Monday. So on Monday, I was going out to lunch with a couple of my friends that day, and thinking they would be ready, I left my car running just for a quick pick up. There was one customer in his shop as I walked in. Pepe was in the back ironing a couple of pairs of jeans for her. He acknowledges me. Still thinking it won't take but a couple of minutes, he continues to iron another pair of jeans. Finally done with the 3 pairs of jeans for this customer, she decided to pay with her credit card. By now, 10 minutes have passed and my friends are still waiting outside in my car sitting idol with the engine running. Pepe is clearly having trouble with his credit card machine to close out this sale. Finally after around 5 minutes, he's successful with the credit card machine and sends the customer off. Then after 15 minutes later after he knew I was waiting to pick up my pants that he promised me on Monday, he tells me that my pants are NOT READY and to wait a COUPLE OF MINUTES! WTH?! I asked him why he didn't tell me this when he saw me come in like 15 minutes ago?! No response. I left ticked off. A few days later, I go back, pick up my pants. He does not say he's sorry for the other day. And on top of that, he gives me a look like he did me a favor. Well Pepe (or Peter), based on the reviews here on Yelp, you are clearly not providing great customer service. Sorry, but you are FIRED! I don't know what's going on with Pepe but I'm never coming back. I dropped off 8 pairs of pants to get the legs hemmed on a Saturday, then I come in the next Friday to pick them up and he hasn't even started, he apologized and says he forgot. I tell him I left work early to get them and I don't have time to wait so I pick up one pair that he does on the spot, leave him another pair and I go (so he has 8 total still) Then I come back today to get the pants and he hands me them. I start to count them and he assures me all 8 are there, I insist on counting a minute goes by and what do you know... There are only 7 pairs! So I stand there while he searches around for my pants, he eventually finds them, they are completely wriinked because he had them thrown on the side, he rushes and hems them in 20 seconds and hands then over. He doesn't apologize or offer a discount but rings me up for 72 dollars and goes on his way. Never coming back, if I didn't insist on counting I would have lost a pair of pants! Hollywood suits sent me here he had it ready in 1 day, it was only 1 suit coat and pants he trimmed the sleeves pants and tightened the coat a bit. Pepe is very affordable but he is extremely overloaded and doesn't hire anyone to help him so if he says my items will be ready the next day or next week, it delays up to two months ! He loses items and I've had to come back up to 5 times to see if my clothes are done and each time he delays it . He isn't reliable . If there are complaints, he never apologizes for not keeping his word and gets defensive instead of giving customer care. it's better to pay more for competence, efficiency and reliability with good communicative service. read more

I have been using Pepe for years and years since he was recommended by Nordstroms. I used him for just simple hemming to making my husband pants larger to refitting dresses for evening wear. He even added a belt in the middle of the dress to make it longer without ruining the bottom of the dress. He is very reasonable too. Just give him time and call to remind him that you are picking up. He always delivers if you are in a bind but relaxes if there is no rush. read more

Took a suit that I bought for a wedding for some tailoring on a Wednesday and was told it would be ready the next Wednesday. I wasn't able to go that day, so I decided to go the next day, Thursday. I called at about 12:00 to make sure it was ready and Pepe said he needed to "press it", to give him 20 minutes. I ended up stopping by at 3:30 and it WASN'T READY! ! When I come to pick up he asks me to wait and then starts working on the shirt ! WTF. Sleeves ended up too short. Shirt ruined. Not worth bitching about to him because of limited English skills. He won't issue a receipt or a price quote. It is all on his word. If you need the items back on that day, go and sit down and wait for them. If you are not pressed for time, call him and tell him you will be there in -- X -- minutes. When you get there, he'll tell you how much longer. In any case, by now you have realized he works for you while you are there. He loves to be watched while he works. He does a good job. He doesn't really need your business.... THE WORST TAILOR IN THE SOUTH BAY. Sorry Pepe, but it's true. My hubby and all his groomsmen got their suits tailored here for our wedding. Granted it was 3 years ago, but the horrific experience is still fresh in my mind. My hubby had to take his suit back 5-6 times because Pepe either could not get it right or missed his deadline to get the work done. On top of botching up the hubby's suit, he mixed up two of the groomsmen's suits!!! The fit was all wrong, and those groomsmen wound up using their suits as rags after the wedding. Absolutely HORRIBLE. I just got back from there after trying to pick up my drapes for the 4th time. I dropped off the draps on Thursday, and he told me they'd be ready by Saturday or Monday. I went in on Tuesday (gave him several extra days) and he said they weren't done. And to come back the next day. I came back the next day (Wednesday) and they weren't done. He said come back the next day. I didn't come back on Thursday, and I went in today (Friday)... to find out that they were not done. He asked me to wait and I stayed there and watched him sew them. They were done nicely, and he charged me $10, which is fine. But, that is REALLY unprofessional to send me running around because he is not on top of things. I don't ever write reviews, but this rating and explanation is something any new customer should know. My parents recommended this tailor, but after a few experiences I will never come back. I've had 2 pants and 3 shirts tailored here. The pants were straight-forward, no problems there, except I had to come back twice cause he said "I'm running behind" on 1st return - 2nd return he said he left them at his house. The shirts on the other hand were a disaster. Upon pick-up he told me he's "running behind", again, and items would not be ready till 2 more days when he initially said otherwise. I come back and 1 of the shirts was cut way to slim to the point I couldn't button, and no I didn't gain weight between times, also one of the other shirts wasn't even tailored or touched. When I was paying, he then says each of the three shirts are an extra $5. His explanation, "I forgot to tell you the additional money before." After returning for the THIRD time for ONE order the other shirt was fixed but then I saw a 1in tear on bottom. After 30 min for the repair my order was finally complete. The shirts still don't fit right but it's just not worth the hassle. I told him politely and calmly (I think) I was not satisfied with his service and I won't be returning. I'm telling him this for two reasons: 1) I wanted to tell him how I felt, 2) give him input as a customers point of view so he can better his business. But I don't think he takes criticism well, so he got angry and I won't be back. Personally, I don't understand why he's in high demand. I'm not critiquing him of his skills as a tailor, although shirts don't fit right, but more so on his business, organization and professionalism. read more

At that time, I left an additional set of pants, again came back on the day he said they'd be ready - again, all four weren't ready. This combined with the general disorder of the store was enough to convince me not to return. Okay, PEPE is ridiculously reasonable. I had my 2 piece suit, a really nice one, altered at his place. The sleeves needed to be shortened and the design of the pants was like grandpa's so I asked him to make it straight and modern looking. WOW !!! The sleeves were perfect and buttons reattached in the right place, and also the pants !!! It was perfect !!! It looked "modern" exactly the way I wanted it. I think the sleeves were $15 and the pants was $20 or so. I went to a place in Sherman Oaks who did a similar job but they charged me $100 and did a bad job. Today, I took in my summer suits I bought at Macy's but the pants was an inch short. Sure enough, PEPE fixed it for me for ridiculously affordable price of.. $8!!!!
