    Breakfast burrito

Saw their Lomo Saltado burrito pop up on my instagram feed and it looked amazing so I stopped by to visit. They have inside and outside seating. You order at the register and they bring your food to your table. They had lots of street parking. Located within/around a cluster of other businesses. They were very busy on the weekend. Staff was friendly. Tried: both burritos were very large. I wasn't a fan of their salsa. Lomo Saltado burrito $19 - there was a lot going on with this burrito. So many different flavors. I think I prefer the plated version over the burrito. Breakfast burrito $15 - this was just okay. Note they have a 3% surcharge fee. I might be back to try their other offerings. I loved that they are doing Prosperitea pop ups here.

Exceptional! Starting out as a in-house pop-up in La Jolla, we are a little late to the party since they opened up an entire brick and mortar near the shores. Came in late afternoon, didn't get the name of the staff but the ambience is calm, design is modern and the service is extremely welcoming. Lomo Saltado Burrito - Little bit of a wait, and a steep price but definitely worth it. It's a unique twist/fusion that uses fresh ingredients. Usually burritos are heavy, didn't feel that effect too much here. This is what you should get. Whenever I'm back in SD I'll keep this spot in mind for sure, just due to its small business roots and effort they put into presentation, service, and quality of food.

Nice Peruvian option in the area of La Jolla! Parking was a bit tricky and busy during the weekday lunchtime. The inside is spacious with ample seating for those dining in. The cashier was welcoming and friendly upon coming in. I tried their orange pineapple juice, chicken tenders with tots, and pork belly sandwich. The food and juice were tasty and enjoyable! They also have a self serve spot for grabbing water. I look forward to coming back soon and trying their burrito.

Went here for the burrito but ended up enjoying the other dishes much better. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly with a runny yolk. The bread was perfect with a nice crunch and chew. The sweet potato bowl was also great with a mix of flavors and textures. The burrito was the only disappointing dish. We were very excited for the lomo saltado burrito, but it did not taste much like lomo saltado. What threw us off was lomo saltado is usually strips or chunks of steak and the burrito had shredded beef. Also the beef was a little too sweet and wish the tator tots were crispier, as the texture was a little one dimensional with it all being soft. Would come back but just wouldn't order the burrito again.

Delicious as always. Never disappoints, the consistency here is so good. We love pepino's!

Came recommended from a friend so had to visit. So glad we did!! So good!! Came for breakfast so had the scone and Pep's Brekky Sammy. Loved it!! Seemed a local hot spot, consistent traffic coming in and the inside seating area was pretty full. We chose to sit outside which was so cute and plenty of space and areas to choose from. Not a huge line either, which I was a fan of. No one wants to spend an hour sitting in line on a beautiful Sunday morning in San Diego. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Explaining menu items, areas to sit, cleaning up tables as they opened. Just loved it here!! You should definitely give it a try! We will be back for sure!

Pepino is a nice addition to La Jolla. The space is bright and open with plenty of room. When I visited, it was quiet, which made it an easy place to relax and enjoy the meal. I had the lomo saltado burrito and it was great! Very flavorful and hearty. They also have a few different hot sauces, which were fun to try. Portions were generous, though it was a bit on the pricy side. Service was friendly and I would definitely come back at some point.

I first tried Pepino when it was a small breakfast pop-up in their backyard in La Jolla! I remember I was so excited for their food because literally everything we ordered was fresh and made to order. They had picnic benches with umbrellas to sit at. It was really quaint! Unfortunately I haven't made it out to their brick and mortar shop until now. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for the Prosperitea Matcha Pop-up! I arrived at noon and was able to snag a two hour parking spot right in front! There was a line going out the door, it took about 10 minutes or so to order, and maybe another 10-15 minutes to get my food. From Pepino I got the Breakfast Sandwich because it came with Karachi Chili Crisp infused aoli, the Fried Chicken Sandwich which also comes with Karanchi Chili Crisp infused hot honey, and the Lomo Saltado burrito with the avocado on the side. I also ordered from Prosperitea 2 Pandan Hojicha Lattes, a Pandan Matcha Latte, a Banana Milk, and a Strawberry Milk. So the total for everything was around $85. I personally got to try the Lomo Saltado burrito and the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Although both were good, I preferred the Fried Chicken Sandwich because there was more depth to the eating experience. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection, the Karachi Chili Crisp hot honey made the dish sweet and savory, the bun was light and flakey, the pickles also added a nice crunch. 10/10 would get that sandwich again! For the Lomo Saltado breakfast burrito it was decent, grilled on one side to give it a better hand-held structure. I liked that it wasn't overly liquidy or moist but I thought it would have been bigger given the video I saw online of it. I ordered everything to go so the "face melting sauce" was on the side. I wish I had more of that sauce it had a pureed texture and not like your run of the mill red hot sauce from Mexican restaurants. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed eating Pepino again and will definitely come back to try more of their menu. They were unfortunately out of the ceviche by the time I got there

'Pepino' is a cucumber in Spanish slang or as I have read previously is the Knick name of the owner's grandfather. The eatery opened about a month ago and yesterday, I had the time to stop by. The dining space is fantastic, very spacious and inviting for diners but there are a couple of outdoor seating as well. The concept is you order and pay at the counter and food is brought to you by servers. Upon reviewing the menu, I can honestly say, nothing listed seemed uniquely appealing. I have read many posted reviews which were mixed. I can confirm that for many food items, the pricing is bit higher than most. The display of bakery goods looked good but after my visit at Parisien Gourmandises, I was bakery goods too full. There was a juice or slushy machine behind the counter and I asked whether it was a slushy machine. The girl behind the counter had difficulty understanding English, she didn't know what slushy means...ugh! I had to repeat myself multiple times just to order that orange drink. To make ordering easier, I suggest your review the menu ahead of time and order by pointing. Answering your questions in English might be a challenge Finally, I asked if I can sample taste it, finally she understood that yay! It was indeed juice which tastes like orange, mango and cucumber so I ordered that with a separate glass of ice. I sat outside and sipped that refreshing natural tasting juice which wasn't too sweet and I felt invigorated afterwards. Wish the menu offerings were more exciting. Steps away in the same courtyard is Taco Time which offer among the best tacos so this is who Pepino is competing with because that's where other people and I went to buy some tacos togo. Perhaps when I have more of an appetite I will revisit Pepino.

Pepino is a fairly new Peruvian eatery and bakeshop that has opened in the village of La Jolla across Fay Ave from the Pavilions shopping plaza. Parking was all curbside as you don't want to risk parking at Pavilions and get ticketed or towed. The service counter was to the left when you walked in. To the right and up a few steps was an adjacent dining room that could seat about 40 customers. The one-page menu featured a total of eight breakfast and lunch offerings so don't expect full Peruvian entrees. The breakfast choices were available all day while the lunch items were served between 11 am and 4 pm. The Yuca Fries and the Lomo Saltado Burro were my choices. The fries were crispy and served with a cup of huancaina sauce for dipping. There were just six pieces so I can't say the value was good for the $9 price. Beef, scrambled eggs, tater tots, guacamole, red onion, tomato, jalapeno, queso oaxaca, cilantro, and scallion were all neatly stuffed inside a flour tortilla for the burrito. A cup of smoked salsa roja was provided for dipping. The burrito was cut in half and served as two pieces. The salsa added a nice touch of heat and moisture to the burrito. I also liked the diversity of ingredients but similar to the fries, the price was high ($19) for the amount of product. That kept my rating of Pepino Eatery & Bakehop to a four star level.

Pepino is a great, new spot in La Jolla. My husband and I dined during their soft opening for breakfast and enjoyed everything from the coffee, fresh squeezed juice, the pastries, and breakfast sammy. Sebi and team are always trying new things and updating their menu, so you're guaranteed to get the latest and tastiest offerings! They've already updated the breakfast sammy since we've been and can't wait to try the newest version. Pepino has both indoor and outdoor seating (pet friendly). Inside the decor is a homage to Sebi's Peruvian roots. They also have merchandise and Talitha coffee (bagged) for sale. Pricing is very resonable for everything they offer. Service is top notch. Everyone is so friendly! They bring your food out to you and make sure you have all that you need. I definitely recommend checking out this neighborhood gem for breakfast for lunch!

Went on opening day after a long run and got a few things to go: Passionfruit orange juice ($7)- this was good but I didn't taste too much passionfruit Lomo Saltado Burro ($19)- My fiance got this and said it was also very good and filling. Sweet Potato Bowl ($18)- This was sooo good and exactly what I needed after a run-filling, but not super heavy! Chocolate Chip cookie- this was huge and very good and chewy. Maybe a tad too much salt for me, but I did like that it balanced out the chocolate. Overall, very cute spot and so happy they found a permanent home!

Always looking for an amazing breakfast place in La Jolla. We went during their grand opening in early November so there was a good amount of folks who was there. Menu had a good selection and was craving for something savory. The breakfast sandwich looked basic but once you take a bite you can tell the amount of work that took place. How is the egg SO smooth?! Tell me the secret. I wish they had some small tater tots on the side. Couldn't resist the good looking coffee cake which tasted amazing. There are a lot of other mediocre places in La Jolla that cost about the same, so this is definitely is worth it. The shop has a decent amount of seating and staff were quick to deliver the food and keep the areas clean.

On the wine front, Gata absolutely delivers. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, and it's the kind of place where one glass quickly turns into two because there are simply too many interesting options to pass up. Unfortunately, the food didn't come close to matching either the quality of the wine program or the price point. We ordered the deviled eggs, which turned out to be hard-boiled eggs sliced in half with a piece of ham placed on top. When you order deviled eggs, you generally expect, well... the eggs to actually be deviled. We mentioned our disappointment to the bartender, who was wonderful, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The explanation was that this is simply their interpretation of deviled eggs. Fair enough, but it wasn't an interpretation that worked for us. Ironically, the standout dish of the evening was the pigs in blankets, which is not a sentence I ever expected to write about an upscale wine bar. They were delicious, but they also raised the question of why the rest of the menu wasn't reaching the same level. Looking back, we realized we were the only people actually eating while everyone else was there for the wine. In hindsight, that should have been the clue. I only wish someone had mentioned that before we made the trip over expecting a tapas experience. Gata has so much potential. The atmosphere is lovely, the wine selection is excellent, and the staff were fantastic. If the small plates eventually rise to the level of the wine program, this place could be truly special. Until then, I'd absolutely recommend it for drinks, but probably not for dinner.
