We ate at Pepinos for lunch. As we walked by, we saw diners eating at the sidewalk tables and smelled their food. It looked so good that we could not resist. I ordered the Baja salad, hubs ordered the fajitas, and daughter ordered the fajita burrito. When it arrived, we dove in and forgot to photograph! All of the dishes were super fresh and delish! Chips were freshly fried. Salsas were freshly made, guacamole was beautifully creamy. We would definitely return and we recommended it to passersby who quizzed us about the dishes. read more

I used to love this place today, July 12, 2026. I ordered a burrito with extra sour cream and cheese. The total was $14.40. I was in a hurry and I ordered to go then I ran across the street to get something from Fred Meyer's, I came back. My food was ready to go, but it was not in it to go bag. It was sitting on the counter. I politely told the lady behind the counter in Spanish that I wanted the food to go. Could she please make it to go order. A bag up glass, where the food was sitting and nodded her head like you put it in the bag. I have full one hand my products from the other in this chick straight tells me to put it in the bag so I tell her back hey can you please put it in the bag? got full hands. She tells the lady who takes the orders you put the guys food in the bag with an attitude like I did something wrong man this place used to be my spot probably could've put a with as many burritos as I bought from this place and now they're gonna have this type of attitude last time I'm coming here. Let me start off by saying the food was OK, a tad on the high side for what you get. It's the customer service that tanked this rating for them. One of the people in our party got a surf and turf type of burrito that should've had steak and shrimp in it and it literally had three little shrimp. We went up to ask them about it they just ignored our request to look at the burrito and said the cook said he put shrimp in it. That's not a solution. While they have an extensive menu, I'm a sucker for a good street taco. Crispy carnitas is my go-to, served on a soft taco with onion, cilantro, fresh comity cheese and fresh lime, these always hit the spot and satisfy a craving. It's the perfect food combo! The burritos are also delicious, very large and filling. For under $8.00, it's often 2 meals for me. If I'm over that way in the morning, the breakfast burrito with eggs and chorizo is outstanding! OMG, so much flavor! Their margaritas are just $4.75. Where can you get a cocktail for that price in Portland let alone on Nw 23rd! I originally lived in the Bay Area and Peppino's burritos in my opinion are the most similar to San Francisco burritos. the people there are so sweet. I always struggle with going to a place with great reviews and 4-5 stars. I want it to be as good as others have said...this one fell short for me. Walk up to counter to order which is ok. They have a fountain drink area and a fridge with some bottle options. They also have a salsa bar which I loved the mild salsa. The table options were sketch. We literally tried 4 tables. Each that we moved from were ridiculously wobbly and/or the seats were unsafe. Like tipping over and held up with a piece of wood. Not fun. They did have picnic tables outside. My chicken quesadilla was so bland and could have been cooked a little more. It didn't really hold together well as the middle was soggy and chewy. And not much flavor. There was barely any cheese on it. Chips and salsa and guacamole were also bland. Needed lots of salt!! My wife got a shrimp taco and a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The entire plate of food was cold. Just cold. She said the flavors weren't bad but wasn't really enjoyable. Not sure we would ever go back but many others seem to like it so there's that. read more

I ordered four tacos from here and got them delivered fresh still! I got myself one asada, chicken, al pastor and the Baja shrimp taco. My favorite was the asada followed by the chicken. However, every single taco was good and of a big size too! At almost four dollars and fifty cents, the price is a little high for each taco but still definitely worth getting. My order took a little under thirty minutes to get to me and I'm more than satisfied with that. Among the few Mexican spots that are in the area I am happy that I went with this one. Solid Mexican spot. My three star review in no way implies that I didn't like my experience here, but I also can't claim it was anything above average. They have an extensive menu (special shout out to the vegan menu!) but I was having a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat because nothing was grabbing me. I kept looking for things that weren't on the menu. Papas tacos? Nope. Barbacoa? Nope. I settled for chicken fajitas, which were good, but I was also disappointed it didn't come with sour cream. Seating for 2 is plentiful, a few booths that will seat 4, but not much more than that (although I didn't see how much room was available on the back patio.) I will say that the prices here are great. My fajita plate came with beans and chips and was under $10. I almost want to give this place 4 stars for the prices alone but can't quite do it. Bottom line: if you are in the neighborhood and craving traditional Mexican dishes at great prices, this is a good choice. Pepino's is a great spot to grab a quick bite for a good price, especially if you want the most bang for your buck -- portion size wise. I dropped by to grab lunch during a weekday and though it was a little crowded, the line moved pretty quickly. I went with a vegetarian burrito and added guacamole and my total was about ~7.50. I was pleasantly surprised with how big the burrito was! Definitely made it into two meals rather than one. Tastewise, I found the burrito good, but not great. It somehow seemed oily and the tortilla itself had a bit of an aftertaste which wasn't too pleasant. The downside was the fact that they had chips with my meal but the salsa did not have any takeaway containers with a lid so I couldn't get any to go at all I do have to give Pepino's great props for having a wonderfully vegetarian and vegan friendly menu with a ton of options for everyone. Great things being great: price, speed, portions. So if those are the things you're looking for, you can grab them goods here! Hmmmm. I think this was the wrong place to try Mexican food for the first time in Portland. We were exploring the uptown and decided to give it a try. Just like with other types of restaurants, we looked it up on Yelp and compared it to Santa Fe Mexican restaurant near by. It looked "ok" and we went for it. The order was for an asada burrito "supreme", shrimp burrito and a cup of chicken tortilla soup for about $35. The burritos were on a smaller side, full empty flavors. Lots of rice and beans and barely any meat. Shrimp burrito had 4 little shrimps in it. My fiancé just opened the burrito up and ate the shrimp. The soup was mediocre as well. Barely any flavor. The set up is you order at the counter and have to tip prior to receiving your food. I dislike this set up because it rewards mediocracy with no incentive to try. Do not recommend. read more
