We live in Elephant Butte Nm and have lived in NM for a very long time so green chili is a huge deal for us as we love the nm cuisine!! And we love our green chili....now that being said and giving this place a 2 star rating only because the pancake was edible .The breakfast was horrible! I ordered a typical standard in New Mexico Huevos Rancheros breakfast I like my eggs cooked over hard well the were fried looked over fried if that's possible the green chili was flavorless and pretty nasty tasting something odd in the seasoning. Underneath my over fried egg was the green chili with really bad pork it was tough not tender and really bad tasting. No cheese very blan.....My husband ordered chicken fried steak (said homemade) had no flavor the coating was no crispy and it to was overfried almost burned. They hashbrown were under cooked and raw burned on the outside. They also put the jelly which is touch by hand in the center of the plate on top of the gravy!! Not sanitary at all! My husband said the toast was decent and the only thing he enjoed eating beside a bite of my pancake!!...Horrible food.... Maybe there cook didnt show up and there kid was cooking that day!! Unexceptable in my opinion! Also I wanted a cup off coffee and asked for half n half they only have milk or vanilla fake creamer! Yuk! I do not recommend this place ....I have had an upset stomach since I ate there yesterday many runs to the toilet if you know what I mean!!...There is a way better place in Truth or Consequences if you are traveling.....Tonys.....authentic nm food also very fresh!!.... read more

I'm giving four stars for the chile relleno which I ordered after a disappointing breakfast burrito with Hatch green chiles titled as A La Mexicana Breakfast Burrito on the menu. Pepper Pot is called out a s a destination for people visiting Hatch or driving through New Mexico so I was a little bit disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too hyped. Perhaps my mistake on the burrito was not having it smothered. The great thing about the chile relleno is that it is not greasy or overstuffed. This may have been one of the best chile rellenos I've ever been served. It was lightly battered and carefully pan-fried. It was slender and filled with ooey gooey cheese. read more

This place was crazy busy! Probably because sparkys was closed. The poor waitress was short staffed as well but she really did her best to get food put and people in and out the door. I got the green chile stew it was flavorful and not that spicy! My husband got enchiladas which he liked but said wasn't the best he's ever had. Overall it was okay. Stopped in today with some friends just before closing and was treated with a smile and friendly service. We ordered two Chile Relleno burger's, rolled enchilada combination plate and a chimichanga smothered in queso with rice and beans. everything looked and tasted great, and none of us have any complaints regarding the food or the service. Stopped in for lunch recently. This was our 2nd visit to the Pepper Pot. Both visits found service extremely slow. The lunch crowd had the restaurant half full. Our 4 orders arrived 45 minutes after we placed them. Waitress did come by and check on us a half hour into the wait. When the food arrived I found both my rice and refried beans cooler than room temperature. Our lunches were fine, but really not worth price paid (each meal cost $11-$12) plus drink. When we had finished our meals we waited about 10 minutes for the check. I ended up tracking down waitress to pay. A forgettable $50 lunch for 4. Suggestion, drive another 30 miles down the road save some $ and eat at Si Senor Express. read more

Love it When I have a chance to detour off the interstate, standard hatch chili food - well worth the detour! If you order the green chili pork dish, tell them to make it slightly hotter; you won't be disappointed. The chili rellleno's are pretty decent - I've been know to eat 4 of them for lunch. We stopped here while driving from Santa Fe to Arizona and we're glad we did. The Mexican cuisine is very good and the portions are generous. The only thing I'd add is a liquor license so that we could have a beer with lunch. read more

After chasing down two listings in Hatch that turned out to be out of business, we decided to try an establishment that had proven staying power. Pepper Pot is breakfast and lunch only -- they close at 3:00, though they shut down at 1:45 when we were there. Drinks came in cans. My wife had her favorite, chiles relleno. Unlike everyplace else she's eaten it, the Pepper Pot didn't cover them in green sauce. She declared them excellent (though she did steal some of my green sauce). I had the Pepper Pot Burrito. Their red sauce was excellent; I'm not a fan of green sauce as a personal preference, but theirs was palatable enough. The marinated meat chunks were very tasty indeed. We knocked off a star for cleanliness. There were tables with dirty dishes on them when we arrived, which still hadn't been touched by the time we left an hour later. Also, the checkout procedure was... unique, but I figured it out by observation. The restaurant deserves its longevity for its menu. We'd go back. read more

We stopped here on our way back from Santa Fe and the place was filthy dirty, the cook was literally picking his nose while preparing the food and we pointed out two cockroaches. I can't attest to the food because we sat for over 40 minutes, and it never came decided to leave. When we left, they were just bringing out our food, but we did not stay. The service was terrible. No apologies. No checking in with us, and when we asked if they were short-handed, they said there were 3 cooks there that day. We drove to Las Cruces and went to LA Nueva Casita. If you're anywhere near Hatch, NM, stop in! They have incredible food, and the salsa is to die for. I had a cheese enchilada with red sauce, and my husband had the Pepper Pot burrito, which has both red and green chile. I'm not sure which i like better, the red or green! Both are amazing! I put a picture of the entrance because it is all I saw of this establishment besides the very rude waitstaff. I waited out on the patio with 2 pups to see if they had availability serve us. My partner disappears for about 15 mins while he was ignored in hallway. Another party comes in and is seated even though they arrived after. ?? Then he asks if we are supposed to seat ourselves and the waitress tells him to go sit on patio and MAYBE someone will come out. So...we are supposed to sit out there and wait in the hope that someone MIGHT bring us food after waiting already for 15 mins in hall? I asked the waitress the reason for this treatment and she replied that they "were slammed" and then walked away while I was talking to her. She told me the manager wasn't there either (which probably wasn't true). But if the owner reads this, you should staff your restaurant better or fire your terrible employees. This was the only low point on our road trip. read more

Yesterday we headed to Hatch ... talking all the way ( and back ). There we went to what was suppose to be a good restaurant, not the one we've been to several times in the past. The service was awful! The food was slightly warm, and the waitress never brought items requested ... in fact, never saw her again. Barb went and talked to the manager and they comped her meal, Charlie did the same thing and the manager just gave him lip. We left a 4¢ TIP. Some other people at a table next to ours' got up and left before their food arrived, ours' came out before theirs'. We were on the patio, Barb caught several families headed in and told them of our BAD experience -- they were smart enough to turn around. Never again will we go there, they even couldn't handle lunch service, and they weren't all that busy, either inside or out. read more

We had late breakfast here. The servings are generous, and the food very well-prepared using quality ingredients. Good coffee. The pleasant front patio is shaded and surrounded by gardens. Fair warning: neither the red or green sauce is gluten free, but fresh chopped red & green chile was a good substitute. This is our 2nd or 3rd stop here, and we'll definitely return. read more

Enormous portions for laughably little, my combo plate with a taco, a chile relleno, two enchiladas and the usual rice & beans was Only $9. House made chips are good but I wasn't a fan of their fresh red salsa, not enuf line, cilantro etc. Menu is stupidly long. When you do Mex food so well, Pepper Pot, why bother with pastrami?? Frustratingly it's only open breakfast and lunch, and sells no beer. And the huevos rancheros are only on the breakfast menu, argh! Best chile relleno burrito of my life. All the details of were executed just right. -The quick grill on the outside of the wrapped tortilla to give it a little bit of love. -where some places prep their rellenos at an earlier time and then re-heat, this pepper still had an al dente integrity that tasted extra fresh. -the pepper filled the entire burrito -even though the only chile relleno to be found on the menu was offered as a "plate," my server was able to modify it as a burrito so I could keep on moving with my road trip. -no need for added salsa. read more

I can't rate the food because we never got any. We were waited on by an older lady who did not write down our order and went directly from our table to cash out a customer. At the time I wondered if she would remember to put in our order. After the table on each side of us (who had been seated after us) received their food, I stopped another waitress and explained what was going on. She went to the older lady, who looked over at our table and walked the other direction. At that point, we got up and approached the older lady and explained that we were leaving as it was evident she had never put our order in to the kitchen. She said "sorry ma'am" and then as we were walking away she started laughing. We've eaten there many times when traveling through the area and have never had a problem. But, we have never been waited on by the older lady before either. A sad situation. read more

Whenever we go through Hatch this is the only place we eat. Delicious authentic food, friendly service and just an all around good vibe.

Average place, green chili was good but placed on top of factory tortillas, not much seemed homemade.

The world has voted. Hatch green chilies are the top chilies in the world. Rating a restaurant that is actually in Hatch means adding an immediate star to the rating. They simply have the best ingredients to work with. In this case, the Pepper Pot should be an over-average Mexican food stop. Nothing's so simple in Hatch, and that means that every plate you'll have (even from a cart on a sidewalk) has been taken up a notch... except for the coffee. Don't order drinks. The drinks range between generic and sub-par. We ordered the chilaquiles. Simply put, these were the best chilaquiles I've had in Stateside. Win! The price is medium to low. Bonus round! From the places I've found in Hatch, this has become my favorite stop to sit down and savor some chilies. read more
