Our appetizer was delicious- garlic shrimp bread. The drinks were delicious- lemon drop fizz and the Alabama mai tai. However, I had the Manhattan strip- it was so full of fat and gristle that I couldn't eat over half of it. It was completely under seasoned and I was thoroughly disappointed. The potatoes were decent. The gulf fish was completely over cooked but it was decently seasoned. There really wasn't much of side just a bunch of mushroom sauce. The service was good, and the ambiance is great but for over $200 and mediocre food we will Not be back. There are better places to spend your money on. read more

We ate breakfast here this morning after our stay at the attached Hilton Lodge at the Gulf State Park. It was a bummer the weather was rainy and windy or it would have been great to have sat outside and taken in the ocean view during our meal. My husband had the breakfast buffet (brave man in my opinion during COVID). The restaurant had hand sanitizer available so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! He walked away feeling satisfied after a freshly made omelet with salmon, fruits, delicious pumpkin bread, sausage, scrambled eggs...there may have been more but I lost track! I had the avocado toast with poached eggs. The accompanied greens and colorful radishes in a balsamic made it a more substantial meal. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the avocado mash was a reasonable portion. My daughter started with the banana pancakes. Our server was awesome in helping her switch out for regular French toast when we discovered the bread had a combination of unknown nuts and we didn't want to risk an allergic reaction. I had a slice of the banana French toast and it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly so you could enjoy the flavors of the bread and it wasn't dried out. This place is such a gem. The perch is in the gulf state park and the attmosphere is so nice. There is an outside that has fire pits and is perfect for a relaxing drink. The inside is perfect for a nice dinner. The menu has things that you can share or get on your own. Our waiter Will was very personable and on top of it. He had a great personality and took care of all our needs. I got the charcuterie board and it was perfect to share. This place is great for a drink or for a nice dinner. 10/10 read more

I'm not sure why I'm giving it that 2nd star...a single star just seems harsh. But, this was simply a completely non-satisfying dining experience. After we were seated, we did sit a good while before our server arrived. We felt the menu was a little limited, but maybe that's a matter of opinion. Maybe we're a little tired of the small plates trend, but that is just a matter of preference. We wanted a meal, not a series of small plates. But really, the problem was the food. And the service. The scallops had an immediate and strong "fishy" flavor typical of seafood that's not very fresh. I almost didn't finish my first one. The vidalia onion rings were delicious, but oily. I know: they're fried onion rings. But these were just oily/greasy. Often a telltale sign that the oil needs to be changed. The gulf shrimp were either over cooked or frozen. My guess was overcooked. My date's guess was frozen. Just a little too chewy. Our server was probably stretched too thin--everyone's short staffed these days. But I sure would have liked a refill on my water. But he didn't return until we were finished. He possibly could have sold me another glass of wine with the meal, but we'll never know. Interestingly, after he returned with my card and the bill, he refilled my water. The place was pleasant and comfortable. Stylish, with a trendy, yet brief, menu and selection. Food was delicious! I got the scallops and pork belly entree, every bite was incredible down to the coconut rice. Our table also got the Brussels sprouts which were melt in your mouth good. Our server, Fernando, was very nice and professional and the rest of the staff was friendly and welcoming as well. My sister got the filet and it was more on the medium well side vs medium but still good. Also the views from the patio during sunset-beautiful!! I also got the banana bread French toast and that was delicious, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the items on the menu. In the evening we went there for dessert and drinks. The $8 desserts were tasty. Chocolate Pot De Crème- Chocolate Custard, Almond Pavlova, Cold Pressed Cherries, Chocolate Sponge. Tropical Torte- Coconut Cake, Passion Fruit Cream, Grilled Pineapple, Mango Pearls. The space is beautiful and you can't beat the view since it right on the beach. Our server was attentive and friendly and spaced out our multiple courses perfectly. The scallops were perfectly seared and the shrimp special was spicy and fresh. The citrus tuna main was the right amount of savory with a touch of sweet from the mango. We ate here three times while staying at the hotel and everything we had was delicious, plus the service was great. For appetizers, we had the frito misto, the garlic shrimp, and the seared scallops. All were perfectly cooked. For entrees we tried all four on the menu over our visits (the gulf fish that week was swordfish and I have never had it prepared so perfectly). The tuna was perfectly cooked, but they aren't serving it with the best sauce (the ponzu sauce on the gulf fish worked much better on the tuna than the flavorless sauce they were currently using). For dessert, the tropical torte was incredible and the chocolate pot de creme was also good. The fried banana pudding was the only thing that wasn't good - that dish needs to be re-conceptualized. Service was always great and if you can sit on the balcony at sunset, you will have an ideal dining experience. You can also go there just for a drink and to enjoy the view. The onion rings are stacked 5 high and look like donuts. It's mostly the batter and half of one per person is enough. We also ordered the Fristo Misto. I do not recommend these two together as they are both fried. The menu does not tell you this about the Fristo Misto. We saw some deviled eggs that other patrons ordered and wished we had tried them. Okay let's first get the elephant out of the room. Perch is in need of better signage. We had a devil of a time figuring out where it was and where to park. Even after we got into the building, we had to ask for directions. The cherry on top is even after we found it, we ended up in the wrong restaurant. You have to go upstairs. Now with all of that said it was worth the treasure hunt because believe me when I tell you that this place is the jewel of Orange Beach. The food is served tapas style so everyone can share. We ordered the octopus, pork belly, red fish and the scallops. It was a feast fit for a king and queen. We have never had octopus so tender. It simply melted in my mouth. The diver scallops almost made my wife cry in delight. She almost finished the plate before I could get one. The red fish was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The pork belly had a great hickory flavor and paired well with the tomato jam. So five plus stars on the food but there's more. Our cocktails were fabulous. Order the gin and tonic. But there's more. The service was outstanding. Our Waiter, Chris, was professional, friendly, knowledgeable about the food and the drinks. But there's more. Not only do you get great food, drinks and service but you have the whole Gulf of Mexico as your view. We saw dolphins. This isn't a restaurant. It's a food destination. We will be back.
