At least 3 times a year I'm driving through Matlacha and stop at The Olde Fish House for lunch. Each time, I've wondered about the place across the water called the Perfect Cup. So finally, after a couple years, we ventured over for breakfast. Now I'm kicking myself for not coming sooner! The Perfect Cup is a roastery and diner serving breakfast and lunch all day till close. They fresh roast their own coffee in house and its self serve with your meal at the coffee bar. This in itself is unique as the wait staff do not serve coffee but will get you any espresso beverage, soda or water. The coffee was very good and they offered a columbian supreme, house, decaf, and a blackberry brandy. Each was full of flavor, smooth and not acidic at all. Walking into the diner you find you typical hodge podge island decor. It meshed well and was a great fit for their vibe. You seat yourself and the waitress was prompt to greet us and take our drink orders. There was a large table in the side room that was able to hold all 10 of us. The menu is pretty extensive and the specials were as well. Several types of Benedict, omlettes, platters, sandwiches and grits graced the options available. A few items we chose were the Crabby daddy omlette, eggs benedict, shrimp and grits, breakfest sandwich and the fajita scramble. With 10 meals to bring out, I was pleasantly shocked that all came out in fast succession and all were hot. The crabby daddy omlette was stuffed full of delicious blue crab, the shrimp and grits were spicy and came in a huge portion and plump shrimp. If you find yourself driving through Matlacha and need a good, filling breakfast, you have to stop here. read more

I had the BLT sandwich and my wife had a tuna melt. We each had an iced latte tea. Service was pretty slow.The food was decent. There were a lot of people eating here around noon on a Sunday. Probably not going to return soon. If you never have been here, it is pretty confusing when you walk through the front door. Eventually you will figure out that you can seat yourself at any open table, but it took us 10 minutes to arrive at that realization without any help from the staff. Likewise, you don't pay from your table, you have to stand in line at the cashier. You will also have to figure this out for yourself. This is another update from my previous 2 trips. I will never be back and I will make sure and tell everyone I know to stay away. On top of the terrible organization of a seat yourself restaurant and no hostess. We waited for about 10min before someone brought us menus and 10 min later still no waitress to take a drink order so we left. The restaurant also was only about 3/4 full so it wasn't even busy. Half the coffee was out there was no creamer and about everyone around us was complaining about undercooked and wrong orders for food. Why this place gets raved about eludes me probably all the northerners that wouldn't know good manners if it smacked them in the face. This is an updated review from my last trip. This time was much better. The service was still a little lacking no hostess. So when people file in there is no one to great you. Just a waitress taking names as they see people coming in. The food on the other hand was much better I got the biscuits and sausage gravy w/ 2 eggs over easy this time. Sausage gravy was well seasoned the eggs were cooked perfectly. Rave :food is good, Rant: service is slow and unpredictable. My meal, slice of a ham, a bit salty, biscuits not as fluffy as others I have had, Potatoes ehh ok, French toast ok, I should have been warned about the powder sugar! Folks are nice enough. A friend of mine suggested this place. It happened to be her brother's restaurant but, that was just an added bonus. Great selection of coffee all roasted on the premises. I've been here on previous trips and the food was very good.Great little hole in the wall. This trip we stopped on two separate occasions. Most of the food tasted good, but the first time the home fries were mostly overdone and burnt. The second time I ordered a short stack of pancakes and the bottom one was burnt, obviously hidden under the better cooked one. The waitress was no where to be found so I ate just part of the top one. When we mentioned at the end of meal that it never should have been served she just looked at us and then asked if I wanted another one (everyone in our party was done eating at this point). As the name implies, their emphasis is beverages. Coffee and hot drinks dominate here but they also had frozen drinks and smoothies on the menu. They had an impressive shelf of bottles for adding flavor to your drink of choice. Found along the main corridor in Matlacha. When traveling West, you'll look for this small venue on your right. We visited in August and in the early afternoon, which wouldn't be their typical rush. When we arrived, there were a handful of tables being utilized. Service was fine. Professional if a bit casual and slow. One person took our order and another brought our food. By the time our food arrived, ours was the only table occupied. The Crabby Big Daddy (omelet) was sizeable. I ordered mine without asparagus. There was plenty of egg, crab and melted cheese. It typically comes with potatoes or grits, which I had them hold. The omelet was warm but needed seasoning. The toast wasn't very warm when it arrived but was acceptable. My guy's Breakfast Croissant was, in his words, decent. He had them substitute bacon for the ham they usually use. The hot chocolate I ordered had a good flavor. In fact, it was one of the best chocolate flavors I've had from hot chocolate recently. Unfortunately, it wasn't very hot and it cooled off fast. I'm not sure if this has to do with the original temperature when made or the cups they are using. It was pretty with froth when it arrived. Final Assessment: We found the food to be okay but not something we'd rush back to experience again. 3 Stars read more

My entire family loves this place. They have the best breakfast in town and the sun rises and sets with the sunrise Blend coffee. We are moving down to the Cape next summer and my hubby said it will be his everyday coffee place. Service is excellent and it has this down home atmosphere. Soooooo disappointed I our last 2 visits. Thry were not packed..do why was service so bad??? I ordered a grilled chicken breast with mushrooms onions and peppers, along with two poached eggs. My husband ordered a chicken salad croissant sandwich. We waited over 25 minutes for order. Which is just ridiculous. Finally get our order, and my eggs are overcooked. They're more like hard-boiled! I sent them back, and waited 12 minutes for another set of eggs that were now a soft-boiled. We're getting closer. Had breakfast here two days in a row while in Matlacha. What a great little place. The bagel with salmon spread was delicious with a very tasty salmon spread and dressed up just like lo on a bagel would be. We also had eggs w/ bacon and sausage and a pastrami omelette. Everything was cooked very nicely and reasonably priced. The waitress we had both days was very nice and pleasant and delivered our orders in a very timely fashion. The first morning we were in kind of a hurry but didn't tell the waitress and our food came our very quickly. The last day we ordered a bowl of seafood chowder to go that we took home with us. I can see why it won the Taste of Pine Island best chowder. It was everything I'd want in a chowder, thick, creamy and packed with chunky ingredients. The crabby daddy omelette is a bit of a splurge, but worth it! The blueberry pancake was light, fluffy & melts in your mouth. Fresh roasted self serve coffee station that keeps you coming back for more. Kind of a shame there's no tables with a view of the water or outside seating, since the restaurant actually has canals on two sides of it. I really enjoyed this place, it's very popular and busy. Everyone says it has the best coffee but I didn't try it. I did try the hot chocolate it was watery. The menu is very creative and interesting. I got the kielbasa with onions and mushrooms and it was very good. The grits were plain but I ordered a side of cheese and butter and doctored them up with butter and black pepper and they were delicious. Uhmm, this is a cute little place, however, the service was unorganized, the food was not awesome, we left almost all on the plates and sure we didn't want to take that home. We got there and everyone one would look at us but would not greet us or explain anything. I had to chase one of the waitresses to ask if we needed to be seated or if this was a self-serve restaurant, she then walked us to a table and gave us the menus.
