so thankful a place like this exists. was able to surrender my 4 year old cat in the unfortunate circumstance of her having a rivalry with my newborn. miss her every day but couldn't have asked for a better sanctuary to rehome her. dont judge from the outside - inside and all of the cat spaces are extremely clean and well kept. looks a lot like cat heaven. 24/7 access to food, there were clean litter boxes and all furniture coverings were clean as well (and i showed up without any forewarning!) for anyone considering a surrender, here was the info i got: 1 y/o cat fee : $150 2 y/o cat fee : $250 3 y/o cat fee : $350 4y/o cat fee : $450 and so on... Black cats are automatically $2,500 this program promises to care for your cat for the rest of their lives or until they are adopted out, so the fee totally makes sense. i met a cat that has been there alive 2012. anyways, just wanted to share how amazing and grateful I am for this place. Pet Pride is probably one of my favorite shelters in Los Angeles because they take in senior cats at 7+ years who've had hard lives and resocialize them to be taken home to a loving family. The staff member who runs the place is very patient, knowledgeable and overall amazing person. The space is very cool because it's a 3 bedroom house converted into a cat sanctuary. Kudos to their staff for keeping the building very clean considering about 20 cats live there. Some things to know before going: * parking is limited in the area and the streets tend to get very busy since it is near the freeway. * to adopt they ask that you visit the cats 3-5x before taking them home. You probably can't adopt on the day of. * the adoption fee is $100 and the cats are spayed/neutered, had regular vet check ups and have all their shots * they do accept walk ins and you can actually get to meet the cats. I think this is my favorite place in all of LA! All the cats here are older (7+ years) which I really love. It's basically a small house run by cats! They have a large outdoor area as well, and the cats seem to really love it here. There's a mix of very friendly cats who love to be pet as well as some that are quite shy. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and they'll give you their honest comments about any of the cats to make sure it'll be a good match. They also make sure to let you know there is no pressure to adopt, so we've been in to simply hang out with the cats. It's so relaxing and quiet, and the place is very clean! I could spend all day here. One thing to note is that parking is honestly very difficult, so be prepared for that. I'll be spending time here on a regular basis; I'm so glad to have found this place! read more

Tucked away in the corner, would be easy to miss it. Park in the driveway or on the streets. Just remember they are closed Wednesdays and Sundays. We had tried to go visit before but forgot it was the one day of the week they are closed. Friendly guy welcomed us at the gate and we were left on our own playing and brushing the cats. Funny how each one of their personality came out pretty quickly. A couple of them aren't shy to purr for petting. Kids had a ball. Also got to chat with a very nice lady/volunteer. Last week I adopted a cat named Penny from here. The man who greeted us when we arrived at the shelter was super friendly and told us there was no pressure to adopt. He showed us to the cats and gave us space to meet them but was close by and able to answer all our questions. They kept the cat space super tidy. He was honest in his reviews of all the cats. We visited the shelter 3 times before taking her home. She had all her shots and had recently been to the vet. She was one of the youngest cats at this shelter- about 7 years old. After a week of having her I know she is the perfect cat for me and feel super grateful to pet pride for helping me feel so comfortable in the process. read more

I'm going to clarify something that another reviewer talked about 'Derby'. Let's get this straight. This is an animal shelter that takes in A LOT of cats, these are damaged and abused cats for the most part. They are cats that need a lot of work emotionally and probably health wise too. This is what you sign up for though AS SOON AS YOU ENTER THE PLACE. You can tell that shelters like NKLA has the resources to be selective since they go through the government directly and don't take cats from anywhere. Having said that, NKLA felt way too impersonal for me. You spend time with the cat for maybe 5-10 minutes while an employee watches over you. Pet Pride let's you take your time to really get to know the cat you want to adopt. I spent two days here for two hours on each day and I knew, after spending time with each of them, that the kitty I went with was the right one for my situation. I've talked to other cat owners who adopt from shelters and they agree that you get a really good idea for the cats behavior and attitude while you are at this location because most of them have spent more than 1-2 years acclimating to this environment. You get a cat that acts how they would for the most part if they were settled in. There are ways to tell how you will bond with the cat when you spend a decent amount of time with them at Pet Pride. There are even more ways to get them to relax once you bring a cat home. Healthy natural ways like a liquid cat relaxer that you can put in their water bowl that is plant based. It's your job as someone who is adopting an animal to get the records of their blood work, their vet visits, to look at their teeth and dental, to inspect their breathing, to consider their age and to get a good idea of their personality. It's not the shelters job to do that work for you. You're in this for the long haul. Pick the right cat for you, we're all different and so are cats. read more

I went & spent two unexpected hours here. It was such an amazing day. I want to live here, it was heaven. The moment you step foot into the kitty's outdoor sanctuary, they invite you in & immediately want to be your friend. If you sit down, expect to have at least three cats on your lap within 30 seconds, & 2 at your feet. Maybe even behind you. There are three indoor areas, my favorite was the back room to the right. There were only about 4 skittish cats, the rest just want you to love them. At one point I was leaving a room & one of the cats in a tower pawed at my shoulder stopping me, asking me to pay more attention to it. I want to be best friends with all these guys & build them a beautiful castle with their own private chef. ***ALSO I must add for all the people complaining about the homing fee, you must consider the fact that they are taking this cat in for the rest of it's life potentially, if not adopted. This includes food, litter, energy used to run this home, bedding, toys, any vet bills, medication, cleaning supplies, etc... There is so much that goes into REALLY taking care of a pet, it's not cheap. Amazing place to surrender your cat and awesome people work here. My mom and I had to surrender my childhood kitty due to my mom being unable to care for her while I was away at college. The staff here were so friendly and genuine, understanding of how difficult of a choice this was for us. They allowed us to tour the facility, which consists of two multi bedroom homes strictly for the cats. There is plenty of food and water for them all day, and multiple litter boxes. There is a patio which is covered, and an outdoor area with plenty of seating and lounging space for the kitties. We were assured that she would be brought inside every night to avoid any conflict with external animals provoking the cats. While there was a fee to surrender our kitty, we were assured that it is used strictly for vet bills and general care of her, and that, should this fee run out or be used up, money from donors and (as a last resort) fees paid to surrender other cats would be used to take care of her. They are no kill and cage-less, and only euthanize if the vet recommends it to prevent excess suffering. Genuinely thankful for the angels that work here, and while it broke my heart to say goodbye to my childhood best friend, I can take peace knowing she's in wonderful hands. I called today for a very distraught friend who was losing his apartment after many years and desperately needed a place for his 15-year old cat that he had since it was a kitten. He said he wanted to make sure his cat could live out its final years in a no kill facility. I WAS TOLD THE FEE WOULD BE $2,500 TO TAKE A CAT! I asked him to repeat it because I was sure I had heard wrong. I was stunned....apparently only the abandoned cats from the mega rich could be housed here. This cat is fifteen and most likely wouldn't be a long term resident anyway. He then suggested I contact animal services and we all know that this would only mean death to his 15-year old cat. Honestly, I'm all for helping cats, and this place might be good if you're looking for a looooonnngggg term cat rehab project, but that's it. I adopted a cat from them and wasn't informed as to the fact that this cat always hides and never comes out of its shell. I've been feeding her and taking care of her for about 4 months now and no results. I called them up and they told me that she was always this way and that this cat had been returned two times already for the same reason (WTF?!?!?) When I asked why I wasn't informed on this, they told me that they did inform me. Here's the thing, I know me and I know what I want: a cuddly cat. This cat was cuddly when I was there, but as soon as she left the shelter she became a total ninja cat: unseen except for the food she eats and the litter box she soils. I know these cats have been through trauma, but there were enough cats for me to choose from that I would have rather picked a less emotionally damaged cat, honestly. Speaking of traumatized cats, I feel like this place doesn't do anything to really rehabilitate these animals. The cats wander around freely, choosing to run away from or run up to guests that they choose, but all the handlers I spoke with only had a vague idea of what the cat personalities were. Trying to return a cat is a nightmare. I'm sorry to say but I can't fork over $400 for this cat that has already cost a significant amount to care for. When I told them, the guy on the phone said that, that's a shame but they can't do anything. I'm going to have to drop her off at the pound and act like I found her hiding under my car or something. I told the guy this and he said that it's upsetting but he can't take the cat back for anything less than $400. Mind you, it only cost me $200 to adopt this cat. In summary, if you're a patient saint and can dedicate years to rehabilitating these damaged cats, then go ahead. If not, I recommend one of the other shelters, like NKLA or something, because at least other shelters keep detailed records and are a lot more understanding. I feel like Pet Pride Cat Shelter treats it like a business and nothing more. read more

I'm not sure what more you could ask from a cat shelter. When my wife and I visited Pet Pride, after parking on a nearby side street (plenty of spaces available), we were surprised when we saw just how many cats there were. Louis was very friendly and encouraged us to spend time with the cats. The cats were not in cages or anything like that. Instead they were lounging around on sofas, cat houses, tables, both indoors and outdoors. Even simply being able to hang out with a bunch of friendly cats made me feel like Pet Pride was a great place. We told Louis we were looking to take home two cats that we would keep inside our two bedroom apartment. He recommended these very friendly Russian Blue sisters to us, both of which we had noticed already. After preparing our place for cats, we returned to the shelfter a few days later. The total fee was $200 for the two cats. (Note: cash only.) When we returned home one of our new cats seemed fine, while the other was a little bit nervous for the first week. But three weeks later both of the cats are doing great. They are relaxed, playful with both us and each other, and super friendly. In short they are wonderful cats who seem as happy about living here as we are to have them with us. I'm very thankful to Louis and Pet Pride. read more

I visited Pet Pride yesterday to donate some old towels and blankets for the kitties. This cat shelter is amazing! It's clean, the cats have places to play, lounge, climb and scratch. Luis runs the show and is a kind hearted cat lover with great energy. The cats all seem happy and healthy. They have indoor and some outdoor space to hang out and none seemed to fight with each other. All in all this is an excellent, no kill, no cage cat shelter to adopt from. As noted in other comments, Luis really does know the cats personally and is very invested in their well being. I enjoyed my visit and would encourage anyone to go to Pet Pride, even if you're not looking to take a kitty home, they love to have some play time and if you have towels, old toys, old cat trees, blankets, pet beds etc they are always in need. Pet Pride is a non-profit shelter, if you have a cat you can't take care of or find one and want to give it a good chance at finding a home you can bring it here for a fee. The fee goes towards taking care of the cat and making sure it has food, whatever medicine it needs and comfort. I'm just so happy places like this exist! As far as parking, I found it easiest to just park on a side street and walk less than a block to the house. This also made it simple to exit either to Robertson or Culver Blvd. read more

Just adopted my little kitty, Nikita, two days ago at Pet Pride. Such a great place to adopt a kitty. I've never been to a no-kill shelter before, I think all shelters should be like this! Just a house with rooms filled with kitties who need homes. I love that they're all caged free -- free to roam around and interact with humans and other kitties. I was greeted and taken care of by Luis, who was very patient and friendly. And gave me the time to find my kitty. The kitty who caught my eye and played with me the most is the one I ended up adopting. And I'm so happy with my decision. This kitty will be FOREVER treated like a queen :) Adopt a kitty here today. I wish i could have taken more home, but one is all I have time for. Don't be discouraged by the lack of parking, when you find the right kitty, it's all worth it. read more

I just adopted a 4 year old cat from Pet Pride wla. I spent all day last Saturday looking at pet adoption places. I went to NKLA, Cat Cafe, Lange foundation. I think for the cats best interests and comfort Pet Pride and Lange are the best. It's easy to interact with the cats. Staff at both places are super friendly and knowledgeable. I wasnt too keen on Cat Cafe and NKLA. They are both super trendy - you have to make apts meet with counselors etc. I prefer a more organic approach. And man I sure lucked out at Pet Pride. Rodrigo the manager knows all the cats and their personalities and was patient, courteous and informative. I adopted Choupette- she is the sweetest friendliest cat. I love her already! I recommend you check out Pet Pride WLA for adoptions. Don't be put off by the kind of seedy appearance. Think from a cats perspective- this is a way better environment than a sterile lonely glass box - like the other place. Anyway best is to check them all out for yourself and see what best as suits you. read more

Pet Pride is filled with seriously sweet cats. I love coming here, finding a couch and letting them come to me in tiny waves. They are so grateful for attention and there are so many breeds/mixes! They are all up for adoption but are happy just to have a lap to sit on for any time you can stay. There are 3 rooms, a cattery and a back patio. I've volunteered for a few of the big private shelters in LA but as far as feeling like you really made a difference this place wins hands down. read more

Had a wonderful experience at the Pet Pride cat shelter, Luiz, who is in charge of the facility, has a calm and caring disposition. He cares deeply for his cats and has great respect for their well being . I noticed almost immediately when I toured the compound that there was no smell of urine or other cat odors. The facility is consistently maintained to a high degree of cleanliness and the resident felines appeared calm and secure. I was very impressed with both Luiz and the cat shelter. We adopted our two-year old cat from the Pet Pride Cat Shelter a couple of weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. There are over one-hundred cats who live in two converted houses. The well-cared for cats are free to roam as they like. The shelter's a registered non-profit (I checked) and is clean and spacious. We spent hours picking out the right cat. The staff member who showed us around let us sit and move around the house. We just sat down and waited to see which cats were interested in us. The staff member was able to tell us each cat's name and history off the top of his head! All of the cats are negative for feline leukemia and you get a voucher to take your cat to the BH Animal Hospital. It's a bit pricey to adopt. It was a $100 fee. They sent us home with our cat, a cat kennel, and a bag of food. All of the cats have been relinquished to the shelter by their owners for an (apparently) hefty fee. We're so happy with our new cat, and I highly recommend this shelter. read more

I visited this shelter today because my 1 year old daughter has been really excited whenever she sees a cat lately so I wanted to let her truly interact with some. This shelter very kindly let my daughter run around in screaming excitement while many of the sweet, sweet cats approached her for pets. I really feel like the structure of this shelter is wonderful (literally just a cozy house occupied by cats). The cats were clean, the home was (miraculously) clean and the staff was extremely nice. One cat swiped at my daughter which made her cry for a brief second (because she was scared, the cat didn't actually get her) and the staff came running out to make sure we were ok (overly kind considering how unpredictable 1 year olds are). This is an undiscovered gem in our neighborhood. More people should swing by here, socialize the cats and - most importantly - make a donation to keep this place open. read more

My sister recently passed away and left some money to ensure that her precious babies Boo and Vet would be well taken care of. I visited this place today and you can tell that these cats are healthy and cared for. My sister was concerned with splitting them up, but I was told that they would try to adopt them out together and if they could not, then they will live out their days at the shelter. She was also concerned with them being caged, but they have a lot of room to roam around and go outdoors without being threatened. They will also have a lot of new friends:) If anyone is looking for a cat, this is a great place. The cats were absolutely beautiful! I had a very reassuring experience at pet pride. Sadly I had to give up my cat bc my newborn is highly allergic to her. I had no other choice and our pediatrician advised me to do so to benefit my sons health. The place is clean, and does not leak of urine or feces in spite of having 160 cats living there. All the cats are happy and very nice. Luis the manager makes sure his employees keep the place standing tall, clean, and that the cats live in a safe, clean, and caring environment. Luis reassured us that our cat will be well taken care of and is in a better place. We felt comfortable giving her to them. He is a responsible kind person and does his job well. He cares about the cats, not like the stupid shitty ppl who try to abandon them there. Just FYI...to all those ppl complaining that this place makes you pay a lot to take a cat in...that is ridiculous for you to complain. It takes a lot of money to keep a cat the rest of its life and its a small price to pay knowing that you found a quality and caring home for the animal. 9 out of 10 times if you go to the animal shelter they will destroy the animal within two days! This non profit gets the majority of its funding from wills and trusts from people who pass away. I called every no kill shelter in Los Angeles county and everyone I knew desperate to find a home for my cat! There was no room at any shelter that took animals for free. Of course bc it's free! I had a really nice adoption experience at Pet Pride. First off: yes, the location could be easier to find, and the outside of their building looks a bit run-down. Once inside, though, you'll find that the place is clean from the floors to the litter boxes. They were actively working on repairs and improvements when I was there. The cats have plenty of furniture to lounge on (and scratch up), and they all seem to be in good spirits. Luis, the manager, detailed the careful quarantine and admittance process they go through for each animal, and that made me even more comfortable with adopting at Pet Pride. Luis seemingly knows each and every one of the cats from memory, and that's saying something, because there's a whole lot of cats running around this place. When I described the cat I was adopting a companion for, he instantly suggested one particular cat who he thought would be a good match. I foolishly ignored his advice, though, and brought home an adorable Siamese kitten. The kitten and my adult female cat didn't get along at all, and while I felt terrible about it, I brought her back to Pet Pride several days later. Luis was patient and understanding about the bad match, and I ended up adopting the cat he originally suggested. She's been a great fit, and was well-adjusted from the moment I brought her home. There are many reasons to adopt from Pet Pride: they're no-kil, they test their cats thoroughly, and they have a wide range of breeds and ages to choose from. Can spread easily. They also have NO web presence. Very friendly staff. The cats looked healthy and well taken cared off. I was surprised how friendly these cats were. There was plenty of space for them to run around. Most of the cats were older at least 2 years or older but we're very sweet and calm. A few would even fight for your lap! I had two or three on my lap when I visited at one point. Called a few weeks ago to drop off a cat that was abandoned by some neighbors and was told by a lady that worked there that it would cost $800 for them to take the cat, after thinking that was a bit much I decided to try and save up the money. Come today, I call to schedule to bring him in saying I had the $800 finally saved that I was originally quoted only to get told it's now $2500... What kinda place quadruples it's price in a matter of a few weeks that is just insane. Let's just say I won't be donating to them any time soon. read more

Pet Pride is a truly UNIQUE and wonderful home/adoption center/shelter for cats - unlike any other shelter type animal place I've seen. Amazing really. Firstly, the place has no curb appeal from the street; dying landscaping, no parking - but do NOT let that deter you. There is street parking on a nearby street. Just park your car and go there! They operate out of an older home that has been converted into a 'cat house', the cats live in several different rooms and patios containing cat beds, old sofas, and cat condos. Given the large number of cats - at least 120 I'd say, Luis, the manager and certified Vet Tech, keeps the place , and the cats pretty clean. As the owner of 4 cats - I know how difficult that is! If you are considering adopting a cat, or need to 'surrender' your pet, please look into this place. It's a pleasure to visit, its a no-pressure atmosphere, just stop in and sit down on a sofa and watch the action. Pretty soon one or two or three cats will approach you, maybe hop on your lap, rub their face on you, maybe lick your hand - they're such beautiful, amusing and loving animals! Its like therapy just going and hanging out there! You can visit several times before deciding on a cat that is right for you. No rush. Its nice for the cat to 'pick' you, as well as you 'pick' the cat! It should be a mutual picking I think, and Pet Pride provides a good atmosphere to allow this to happen. Luis is warm and friendly, and is careful to make sure the cats go to a good home, he really cares about the cats welfare. This facility does charge a feel to surrender your cat there, meaning, you cannot keep it and need to give it to them. The fee is higher for older cats which are less desirable to adopt apparently. Some people have complained about the high surrender fees, but given how much he and his staff care about the cats, the medical care/treatment they receive and how generally happy and healthy the cats are here - I feel its definitely worth it. When I come into big money, I will be donating some to this place! read more
