As a bit of backstory, I'm a father of twin 21 year olds. One is in college double majoring and…read moreplaying chess against a computer and has played video games since he was a fetus. The other dropped out of college, smokes, tells horribly inappropriate jokes, loves pinball, and is much more like me. I apologize to her daily for this, but shit happens. At least she got her good looks from her mother. Been in Vegas for over 20 years and visited a shitton of dive bars, fancy lounges, and everything in between. As a 20 year Vegas local, we all know that the Strip is awesome, obscenely expensive, and not where you spend your time (unless you work there, as many locals do obv). The biggest difference between Vegas and some random vanilla city is that we are a bit more "old school" for lack of a better phrase. Somewhere in the heart of Tulsa there is a 47 year old degenerate sitting at a smoke free bar, watching reruns of Deal or No Deal while telling family friendly jokes sipping on his beer until the Blue Law gets enforced and the bar stops serving and closes at like 1 or 2 AM. What the f*ck? Seriously? The great thing about Vegas is walking into a locals dive bar at 3am, cigarette in hand, ordering a Jack & Coke, and playing some video poker followed by pinball for hours on end. There isn't political correctness. There isn't a limitation on when alcohol can be served and good old fashioned cigarette smoking is allowed indoors and everywhere in the bar. And by cigarettes, I'm including menthol and regular. In that Tree hugging Third Reiche of a state next door, you can't even buy Menthol cigarettes anymore. And God forbid you want a free plastic bag from the grocery store. Wow. California has really gone to Hell since I moved away from there. But I digress.... Cool Dogs is welcoming. The exceptionally friendly staff makes you feel like Norm from Cheers even if it's your first time there. The pinball machines are in astoundingly perfect condition, replete with Toppers, colour DMDs and even Stern Connected. The dart boards are free to use. The pool tables are very reasonably priced and there is a good old fashioned cigarette machine on the property and a jukebox that plays CD's like Madonna's Immaculate Collection. As if it even needs to he said. I friggin' LOVE this joint. And I think you will too.

I'm a big fan of the original Sand Dollar, but this location was a disappointment. The place was…read morealmost empty on a Friday night and just didn't have the same lively vibe as other nearby bars. A friend and I each put in $20 to gamble, betting $1 a hand, and we ordered two shots for ourselves. I also offered to pay for two more shots for friends who weren't gambling. When the bill came, we were charged for all four. I asked the bartender about comping at least two of them since we were playing, but she seemed unsure of the rules. She said she didn't think "specialty shots" (like the $11 green tea shots we ordered) could be comped. That's understandable, but what frustrated me was the lack of communication. Normally, bartenders will let you know upfront if a drink doesn't qualify, so you can decide whether to order something else. Instead, we gambled our $20 each expecting two shots to be comped, only to end up paying nearly $90 for four shots. We weren't even offered an alternative comp drink to make up for it, and after dropping off the shots, the bartender seemed to avoid us entirely. Overall, I'd recommend better training for the bartenders--not just on comp rules, but on clearly communicating them. Guests should never leave feeling confused or taken advantage of.

We stopped in here because...why not? A place we hadn't been yet. There was absolutely nothing…read morespecial about this old place whatsoever....or so we thought. The day shift bartender- i think her name was Michelle, was a rockstar. She was inviting, fun to be around and truly defined the word hospitable. She's probably the only good thing they have going on there. Cant comment on the food, because they don't have any The very few people that were in there seem to like her as well, and they left shortly before her shift ended. All this flipped when a guy named Dan walked in. Dan, who "runs" this joint evidently recognized me because I wrote a negative review 5 years prior for another bar he worked at. Dan confronted me on this then kicked my wife and i out because of it. Hey thats fine... Your place you don't have to have anyone you don't like there.... Although we thought it was weird and petty, we went somewhere else. Dan, similar to last time, decides to send some interesting messages to me on Yelp. Again fine, weird but fine. I'm not a regular there. I don't live by that bar, so it's not like i'm going to be overly concerned about being asked to leave a place with nothing going on for it. Seems the common trend with bars he "runs" is that they are Sad & completely empty. Maybe that's why the couple patrons they had earlier left before he got there. So it's because of this that they absolutely earn this one star review just like he earned the last one I wrote. Same tough guy attitude, same poor handling of situations. No credibility or professionalism. Stay on the bottom rung bud.
