In the last month, we have been to this location twice. Location: Perkins used to be a breakfast staple my friends and I frequented often. When they closed the Olathe location, I was heartbroken. So many memories! We were delighted to see the one in Gardner exists! Customer Service: 8/10 I will say our first visit experience was rough. The server disappeared for over 20 minutes before we placed an order. It also took forever for us to get the check. The second time we went, the service was a lot better. The server was more attentive and personable. For context, we visited this location both times around 7pm. Everyone up front is always so nice and welcoming. Food: It's Perkins so it's your standard breakfast options and then some. I have always favored them over IHOP. Their food portions are hefty and the food is hot. I had biscuits and gravy the first visit. The second visit, I had a Belgian waffle. Both dishes were really good and the breakfast potatoes were seasoned very well. The wait time for food is a little bit on the lengthy side (around fifteen to twenty minutes both times) but it is worth it with how hot and fresh it is. It was $35 plus tip for my hubby and I to eat here. Old Skool Vibes: I grew up in the late 80s, early 90s and places like Perkins and Denny's were always a vibe. This location reminds me of those days. It's never crowded and it is really clean with nice decor. The booths aren't ripped and gross and the tables are always clean. It brings back such good memories for me. Overall: 9/10 The food always hits and the customer service is decent. For a good breakfast meal, you cannot go wrong with Perkins. The only downside is the limited locations: Gardner and Grandview, which can be far for some. This will be in our monthly rotation of food places to eat and we look forward to our next visit!

Every year I would eat thanksgiving meal and they close Olathe and forget about this one

Live in the area so we try to support local. Not sure we'll be back here again…read more Writing this a "3" instead of a "1" because this complaint isn't fully the owners fault. We were in yesterday (Sat around 8:15 AM). The girl working the order register was a snot from the get go. I find it hard to believe that other customers didnt have complaints about her either. We attempted to order food which she rang up nit than said we don't have biscuits and gravy so you can't have that or the savory crepe with gravy. Ok but you rang it up, didn't ask anyone so how's then did you know you didnt have two of the six things you have on the menu? We then ordered house coffee which she then began writing our name on plastic drink cups. When we told her, those are regular coffees right? She said no your ordered iced. My girlfriend said NO, I ordered coffee and I said, "I'll have a coffee too". I never said iced ether and she threw a fit. We said you know what, make it 2 Togo coffees. She gave my girlfriend that leaked the entire time and the bottom of the cup was saturated like it was going to fall apart anytime. She has no business being in a customer service role. Not sure what her issue was. Was it we weren't regulars? Because if so, as a small business-good luck growing your business catering only to your 20-30 regulars. I will say, it was a solid cup of coffee though.

Service was kind and patient as we picked out what we wanted - a butterscotch blondie bar for me, and a lemon curd hand pie for him. Both were so darn good! Not only do they serve a variety of delicious baked goods, but their store also carries with other local products. I love the shop local mentality! While there is colorful wall art and murals, there is a sparseness to the interior, because there is only a small area to sit and socialize. But sitting and socializing isn't why you're there. You're there for the COOKIES!!! And the cookies are incredible. The 14 we bought were hefty. Don't worry, we didn't eat them all in one sitting. If we could, we would have though! You are getting your monies worth and more. The cookies are crispy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. Even though each cookie weighs quite a bit, they're not actually heavy. We had all kinds flavors and while many are normal and in rotation, it seemed several might be seasonal. We got one of each flavor and were excited to figure out which flavor is our favorite. The woman who greeted us was so nice and accommodating! She answered all our questions and advised us on the flavors. We have neighbors we share with who have a nut allergy and she separately packed the cookies with nuts. We can't wait to come back! The only downside is that we live almost 30 minutes away. It is worth the drive!

To step through its threshold is to surrender to the siren song of warmth that curls from the oven like a whispered secret. I have made it my pilgrimage to traverse the entirety of their menu, a culinary odyssey that has yielded no false steps, only a symphony of consistency that borders on the miraculous. Each offering, from the flaky, golden architecture of their pastries to the robust, honest comfort of their savory fare, is a testament to the artisan's hand. Here, affordability is not a sacrifice of quality but a generous invitation, a rare confluence where the exquisite meets the accessible. There is a certain magic in the air at McLain's, a sweetness that feels woven into the very fabric of the establishment. It is a place that understands the language of comfort, speaking it fluently in the dialect of a perfect crust or the rich, dark notes of a expertly pulled espresso. It is perhaps no surprise that such a bastion of authentic delight has garnered a reputation that extends far beyond our local borders; if the standard of excellence is high enough to grace the plate of Taylor Swift, then surely, it is more than enough for us, the grateful residents who claim this treasure as our own. Yet, beyond the flour-dusted counters and the glowing glass cases, my deepest admiration is reserved for their spirit. In a world that often measures worth in cold, transactional metrics, McLain's chooses to honor those who pour themselves into the future of our community. As a teacher, I feel that recognition in the small gestures, the welcoming nods, and the genuine appreciation they extend to educators. It is a profound kindness, a recognition that the work of shaping minds requires nourishment, both intellectual and literal. They understand that a classroom is a marathon, and they act as the essential pit stop, providing the fuel that keeps the light of inquiry burning bright. To dine at McLain's is to participate in a ritual of belonging. It is a place where the passage of time is marked not by the ticking of a clock, but by the turning of the oven trays. It is a reliable heartbeat in the neighborhood, steadfast and true, offering a reprieve from the clamor of the outside world. Whether one seeks a quiet moment of reflection over a cup of coffee or a celebratory feast that honors the simple, profound joy of eating well, McLain's remains an unrivaled steward of taste. It is not merely a bakery; it is the living, breathing soul of Waldo, a place where every bite serves as a reminder that some things in this life are exactly as good as they ought to be.
