Went out to try Perkos for the first time and I have to say I came across one of the worst experiences with eating out. There was a wait for the food and by the time myself and the other party received our plates, it was cold. I expect to get warm, fresh off the grill food, yet I felt that was definitely not the case. On top of that, not even 5 minutes passed upon getting our meals and the waitress have gave us the tab. As a customer I assume to get my tab once I'm done eating because throughout a meal I could want more drinks, sides, ect and to me, that's like telling a customer to hurry and leave. Because of this I definitely wouldn't recommend eating at Perkos. read more

My family has been going here since before I was born. I've been to all the locations in the Modesto, Riverbank and Ceres area. This place is a family and a local staple. It's went through it's ups and downs but I will tell you the service is great. They are all genuine and care about serving you. (Many of the same people have worked here since I was a kid. Well over 20 years). The food used to be ok but now it's so much better. Selection has always been big. Food is fresh and always to order. I think the owners kids took over. Maybe that's a rumor. I've seen it transform over the years but their new look is so nice. It's clean and more mainstream. The price has went up, but the economy has went down so I can't blame them. You'll get your moneys worth, I promise you. Is it a must-visit? Depending on what you're looking for, yes, but if you're in town, stop by and have a nice visit. P.S. Prices were great, food was very fresh I was very impressed. One of the workers even looked like Taylor swift. Great staff and the waitresses were really nice. I've been going to Perko's since I first moved to Modesto back in 2001. It's one of my favorite places to eat and this is my favorite location. The staff are always attentive, friendly, and personable. It's a kid friendly atmosphere with a great selection of food. I'm a huge fan of their burger and fries. They also have great steak sandwiches. It also doesnt hurt that the manager, Ryan is a mega babe. read more

Every time at every location as soon as I walk in I get the feeling I am not welcome there. Our waitress is never friendly. This last time we went to the one on Oakdale. Some guy, I guess he was the host, sat us down. He was the first to convey that unfriendly vibe. Our waitress came and took our order. Semi nice but that was the last time we saw her. I'm giving them 2 stars because some older tall guy was hella cool. He kinda took over the duties of our waitress. My wife loved her burger my food had no taste. Extremely bland. read more

We went here for a late lunch/early dinner. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and a salad. They have fantastic side salads here, several different kinds of lettuce not just the cheap iceberg junk! The meatloaf comes covered in brown gravy, 2 slices with slightly burnt? edges. It was "ok" nothing to write home about. The potatoes were really good and it came with some nice steamed squash (but it was a little cold). The service was really good but the food could use a bit more help. Good enough diner for a quick meal. I also could have done with out the smoker sitting on the bench right outside the door. I walked out and got a face full of their smoke. Maybe they could move the benches down a bit farther from the door or something. read more

First time experience at this Perkos location and I ordered the garlic mushroom chicken: it was...amazingly meh. The potato literally looked dehydrated (insides shrunken and was unappetizingly rubbery & gross), the vegetables were waterlogged and underseasoned, the chicken, garlic and mushrooms looked and tasted more like they had been boiled than sautéed and again, completely underseasoned (the wine part of the "wine sauce" was all but undetectable), and the entire plate was swimming in a watery liquid I can only assume was supposed to be the "sauce". On a positive note, at least the bread was tasty. Next time I feel the urge to visit a diner, I'm driving the extra couple of minutes to Dennys @5 points. read more

I don't review much so it takes a lot to make me take the time... came here for the first time ever, despite growing up in Modesto. The service was impeccable. Just the right amount of attention. Food was great and again, the service was awesome. These guys and gals move fast and are very attentive despite the number of customers. My coffee cup was empty no more than two minutes before it was getting a refill. And none of the half full fillups that ruin my coffee/creamer mixture. Anyhow, thanks for a great first experience. Well not to be a grump about things i will start off with the fact that we were seated right away with a manager with no smile and too busy to offer coffee h2o or dirt. It was during the holiday weekend ,and we brought everyone out to breakfast on a whim decision. And as we drive down Mc Henery ave they were the only place that was open at 9am! The place seemed clean and it was not even busy. The five of us were happy with that the fact we found a place that seemed clean and nice. My brother in law and his wife ordered the strawberry pancakes and rest of us ordered the 2 egg breakfast with sausage and bacon with coffee all around.......... Well here we go the eggs were slimy and the toast was late and cold with non -melted margarine and the strawberry sometime on pancakes was mysterious on pancakes .With a bill close to 70 bucks. That left a nasty taste in both my mouth and pocket book. I advise you to steer clear of this eatery and save yourself some time and moo la...... If i was able to give it a half a point that would be my rating. read more

Great place for breakfast. Eggs have always been perfect and chicken fried steak as well as biscuits and gravy are on point. Prices are fair. The staff is great! The teamwork is so seamless that it's sometimes hard to tell who is actually your server. read more

We were quickly seated and the hostess was very friendly, in fact everyone was. The negative was the fact that their "Company Policy" states they must give you your bill at the time they serve your food, the quality of food was simply not there! The sausages were cheap pre cooked/ frozen sausages, pancakes looked like something you would get at McDonalds and my omelette had a rubbery sort of texture almost as if the eggs had been over cooked. I am not one for much small talk yet i had like 5 different servers come and annoy my meal by continuously asking if I freakin needed coffee when i had already told them I no longer wanted any. All I can really describe this place as is an overpriced and unappealing Denny's for seniors with some decent service. The menu tried to be cute but failed. I had no idea what to look at because there were so many things going on. I did manage to order what I thought was the most reasonable deal but it was about $11 for a half a sandwich and a little cup of soup that I could've made better myself. I thought I'd be adventurous and just pick a place to eat based on its name and outside decor... This is what I get for coming to Modesto without searching up some good places to eat first. I'm sitting here drinking coffee while having my oil changed across the street. I hadn't been in since they updated the place. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting now. There are folks everywhere but we got right in and the waitress has been very attentive. I'm only having the coffee, but its pretty good. Typical diner coffee in a clean porcelain cup. I love the menus. They look like newspapers. There are old folks everywhere looking like they have their noses buried in the paper. Someone cruises through the dining area every few minutes with a pot of coffee in each hand, and stops with a quaint "Can I warm that up for ya' Hon?". Perkos was a delight yesterday! I took my kids at about 8:45 am and it was busy. We were seated immediately. Our server was Lindsay. Not only was she kind and welcoming but she paid attention to detail while taking our order. For example: my son ordered country potatoes. She asked my son if he wanted her to leave off the onions and peppers. She must have kids or just be really good at her job or both! It was refreshing to go somewhere that is typically known as mediocre and have such a good experience. The food came out fast, coffee was good, and we had a great time. The only reason I won't give it five stars is because it's Perkos and I think people throw 5 stars around too easy. read more

This place was cute, farm themed breakfasts. lots of regulars and the servers made everyone feel at home. Service was pretty quick. Friendly staff. The only downsides are that the food came out cooled down as if it were sitting on the counter for a while before it was brought to our table. Also, the waiter did not seem to know much about the menu options. Oh, and what I ordered came out differently than what was described missing a few things. my wife and i really enjoy this perko's . we have been going 2 or 3 times a week to eat dinner or breakfast . i have 1 major concern that the waitresses and hosting staff wear masks , but i did notice that none of the people preparing the meals are not wearing masks .this concerns me .hopefully it will be corrected soon . read more

A few years ago I sat inside the Perko's Cafe at Sylvan & Oakdale. I was sitting at the bar drinking coffee that evening, in a not so very busy restaurant. I was served once in an hour and a half, possibly closer to two hours. I was sitting at the bar LITERALLY tapping my cup. It was ridiculous. To make a long story short, I had breakfast yesterday at Perko's on McHenry Ave., and I again dined at the bar, and enjoyed the service immensely. What an incredible environment those waitresses, and even the manager himself create. AWESOME JOB!!, and thank you again. So the last time I was at Perko's on Oakdale Road in Modesto, I realized I was paying a lot of money for food that was so so. I didn't go back for a long time. Today I was in the mood for breakfast after 2 PM, so I decided to go in on McHenry. I sat down and ordered coffee and a waitress brought me water instead. She had forgotten from my table to the coffee pot which was 25 steps away maximum, what I had ordered. So I ordered eggs, sausage, French toast. I got the meal, was asked if everything was OK. I said yes. Little did I know that would be the last time I would see my waitress. Another waitress came and slapped a bill on my Table as she wizzed by. I said, "' Hey, can you warm up my coffee?!" I finally got the coffee, but overall, the food was so so again, and the service worse than I had on Oakdale Road in Modesto. I guess next time it'll be McDonald's. I paid $19.00, tip included, for so so food and bad service. Never again! read more

I went to Perkos last week. We met Kiley first she was soooo much fun had a blast with her ! Ashlee was our waitress and she also was fun . Wendy who wasn't even serving us even came over struck up conversation and seemed very sweet natured . We both had hamburgers and they were great ! This is a place I will recommend and come back to . Perkos has been steadily going downhill for the last year or so. It has hit rock bottom with the new menu which did away with the only reasonably priced dishes on the lite menu. We were recently the only customers in the Riverbank store shortly after the main dinner hour. No one else came in while we were there. The chicken and biscuits ($10) was tasteless, and extremely skimpy on chicken. Perkos used to be a better than average coffee shop. In my opinion it's close to the end. read more
