I came here for my friends birthday during HH and they had a super cute rooftop area! Their HH deals are really good. We got glasses of wine and tried the Soy-Mirin Braised Beef Buns and the Element Roll. They pour some heavy glasses, so you definitely get your money's worth. The buns were good, but not the best ones that I've had. I really enjoyed the element roll though. I'm not even entirely sure what was in it, but it was delicious and had this nice crunch in it. It was also topped with jalapeno, which gave it a nice little kick. Overall, great food and experience. Sushi, how have the hours rack'd and tortured me since I have lost thee! Of all the 'taken for granted' treats and frivolities of everyday life that I missed most, sushi may be at the top of the list. For our post-Covid sushi debut, we chose Perry's where the ailments are admirable but the assistance ails. The ailments: Being purists, we opted for an assortment of sashimi and nigiri, which can be seen in our photos; all exquisite. Of particular note was the toro; deliciously fatty and very well priced at $15. The ails: When making our reservation, I was required to enter my credit card into the site to secure our table. I was informed that failure to show would result in a $15 penalty and tardiness of more than 15 minutes would be treated likewise. We arrived promptly, only to wait on the stairway for over 20 minutes. Alongside us were 5 other parties, all with reservations, anxious about their tables being given away and penalized $15 to boot. When we were finally seated, it seemed the hostess was performing double duty as our waitress. As a result, it was another 10 minutes before we were offered water. The food came out promptly, but flagging down staff for a refill of soy sauce became a bit vexing as, due to covid, they would not allow the bottles to remain on the table, and our waitress was busier than James Brown headlining at two different venues on the same night. I take no issue with the actuarial logic of Perry's management requiring a $15 insurance policy to hedge against absent or unpunctual guests. I do, however, expect reciprocity with respect to my time. On the strength of the fare, we will be back to experience Perry's again, but not before we exhaust all other options for sushi in The District. read more

What's going on at Perry's? Not much after 8:45 p.m. I know that Perry's is supposed to be terrific and I look forward to trying it soon under the new leadership! I have heard nothing but good things. However, I was very surprised when I showed up recently and was firmly, but politely, informed that Perry's kitchen shuts down at 8:45 p.m. This in one of the most vibrant, bustling neighborhoods that is world famous for its nightlife. Or at least grabbing dinner after 8:45 p.m.! All of the other restaurants were hopping. Hope Perry's is able to keep its kitchen open even just an hour after sunset! We were in the mood for sushi and found that this place had really good ratings and reviews. We decided to walk over around 6pm on a Friday. We walked up the stairs in the lobby and said 2 and he said nothing open until 9:30pm. I am sure the roof was full but the main dining room was empty, it had 2 or 3 tables sat. It wasn't until my BF said, what about the bar and then he said, oh yes we have a full bar you can sit at. So then we decided to sit at the empty bar with no guests. Super odd that they were "full" but the place was empty. I am sure they were short staffed like a lot of other places around town, it was just uninviting to say nothing open until 9:30pm. We sat at the bar, got glasses of wine and ordered 4 rolls of sushi and it was good! Service was good, nothing special but it was good. I was wandering around Adams Morgan trying to find a fun spot with fun drinks and food to beat the heat. The Perry's menu had some creative unique dishes that intrigued me so I made my way up to the roof and tried requesting a table for 1, but the staff encourage me to sit at the bar and take advantage of their happy hour deals. I went to Perry's for their happy hour (which is only offered at the main bar). It happens every day from 4-7, and is one of the best happy hours I've been to in DC. The food and beverage offerings completely blew me away, and I will be back soon to try some of their normal menu items! We started with the shishito peppers, which were perfectly seasoned, charred, and had a lovely sesame flavor. We also tried the Crunchy Tiger roll, which was one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. The combination of the crunchy tempura with the creamy avocado and spicy salmon was absolutely to die for. Next, we had the Karaage Fried Chicken, which was fried to perfection and served with a delicious aioli. Lastly, we had the Madai Crudo and the Little Gem Caesar Salad. The crudo was my least favorite dish of the night (the fish was sliced a little thick for my taste). The caesar salad was absolute perfection, and a fantastic Japanese spin on a classic dish. For drinks, I had the Caipirinha, which was a refreshing lime cocktail that was extremely drinkable. I also had the Echigo beer, which was a light and fruity Hefeweizen. Our bartender was super friendly, and the food came out extremely fast. Overall, this happy hour has incredible food at a very reasonable price, especially in DC. Perry's Sunday Drag Brunch is so, so special. First, let me just say that I had kind of meh expectations for the brunch buffet, and they were far exceeded. "No one goes to drag brunch for the food" was the general sentiment I heard going into my first-ever drag brunch, but this buffet spread was HUGE, extremely varied, and enormously delicious. The LINE for this buffet was a bit ridiculous. People cut the line constantly to stand queue with their friends, and this means you will watch dozens of people cut while you stand unmoving in the middle of the restaurant for at least 15 minutes. It's not worth it to argue or fight, you just wait and wait and wait. But once you get eating, it's so good. We had: + Salads, including ones featuring cucumber, tomato, corn and beans, and more + Breakfast favorites like waffles, THICK cut bacon (which I initially thought was turkey bacon because it was so wide), cheesy eggs, French toast sticks + Lunch-y foods like pasta, yakisoba, deviled eggs, fried chicken (karaage? maybe this is a breakfast item with the waffles), and more + Fruits and cakes at the end! Okay, enough about the food. Just know it was truly a lot better than we were expecting, and they refilled items frequently We were treated to incredible performances by 4 drag performers, including our MC, Ms. India Larelle Houston. The performances were AMAZING, I was truly having the time of my life dancing along with them and the energy of the room was absolutely incredible. but then, Ms. India called up everyone celebrating a birthday or upcoming nuptials and gave each person a heartfelt pep talk that honestly moved me to tears?? Just so much love was in that room and so much of it came from the wonderful performers and staff. I'll honestly never forget this brunch and can only hope that everyone gets to experience it at least once in their life, that you hear these kinds of words said to you when you need to hear them, and that you are in a fortunate financial place to shower these performers with money because they deserve it. read more

We chose Perry's for our anniversary dinner, and we were NOT disappointed! Perry's is nestled in the perfect spot just off the main strip of ADMO. They have tons of seating both indoor and outdoor. We opted to sit inside at a low table with couch, very relaxed and comfortable. We got a couple of cocktails to start out. The Zeniti was delicious. Highly recommend a signature cocktail. We moved on to a Sushi platter. I loved the spicy tuna roll. I also was a huge fan of all the nigiri. The fish was so fresh. We ordered tons and tons of it. I also couldn't get enough of the maki rolls! Our personal favorite was the eel. We had a few rounds of the eel nigiri. We also venture out to try the salmon roe. That was an interesting experience. Overall I loved all of our food. The best part was the staff. They were all so nice, welcoming, and responsive! We got 5 star service from the moment we walked in. I thought the leek appetizer and edamame dumplings were super disappointing. The desserts were the size of a thimble for over $12. absolutely loved this place!! i had heard great things for awhile so was excited to check it out and it really lived up to the hype. the place is beautiful, food was fantastic, and our waitress was adorable and so helpful! it's located in a great spot, there's valet parking ($30) right next to the restaurant and the inside is beautiful! it's super nice, very elegant, but you can also go dressed very casual. there's a full bar, large dining room, and also places to sit at the sushi bar. our favorite bite from the night were the garlic edamame dumplings ($12 for 5)! they are a must have; the dumplings themselves were amazing, super light flavorful. they come topped with a mound of parmesan cheese and really are delicious. we also got the miso butter clams with udon noodles ($20). also amazing! it came with a pound of clams in an amazing buttery broth and a large side of udon noodles. the last thing we got was the sushi and sashimi platter ($52 but serves two easily especially with other food). the spicy salmon roll, tuna sashimi, and white fish sashimi were our favorites! they also have a great wine/beer/cocktail/and japanese whiskey list! i got the lemon sour ti drink and it was delicious. the service was also fantastic; our food and drinks came out quick and our waitress was lovely and very attentive. can't wait to go back! read more

I've been going to Perry's for their sushi happy hour for years (decades?) but have never written a review. Shame on me. I love their rooftop bar- it's the best view in Adams Morgan. The sushi happy hour specials are solid. Sashimi tuna and salmon are fresh and delicious. Spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and California rolls are also good (but let's be clear, the best fish is used for the sashimi!). Salmon and avocado roll were also quite good (but not a HH special). Our out of town guests liked the shumai (shrimp dumplings) and pork gyoza, but I thought the shrimp was overpriced (3 dumplings for $8!?!) And the pork was only ok. Service is a bit slow but pleasant. Stick to the sushi happy hour and you'll be happy! read more

I need to make other patrons aware of the private message I received from the restaurant owner on Instagram after leaving a 3 star review on Resy after we dined there last week. In that review, I said that the dishes were tasty but entree sizes were small for the price and that the sushi was average. Obviously dropping my Yelp review to 1 star because of his reaction. I see plenty of reviews here on Yelp that echo the same sentiments but haven't seen him respond in the same manner to those. I used to be employed as a hostess at the former Mintwood Place 11 years ago, which he also owned. Not sure why he felt justified in messaging me this simply because we used to know each other but this is deplorable in the world of hospitality. I read about Perry's drag brunch in "111 Places in Washington That You Must Not Miss," which I would recommend to native/DC-dweller and visitor alike. I planned a packed itinerary for my mom's recent holiday trip here, and when I read that this Sunday's brunch was holiday-themed, well, I had to go. Perry's did not disappoint. The queens were, well, Queens, and unlike other shows I've been to this one was much kinder to the audience as well. I've been to shows where some of the jokes were at the audience's expense, and this was NOT that. They made some truly touching comments about families and the holidays and one regular who was celebrating some personal success in overcoming illness and losing weight, and it just felt like such a warm and happy place. There was one younger audience member sitting near us who just swooned whenever a queen came by, and I don't know their lives but it clearly meant a lot and the queens knew it and gave them extra attention and that is rad. Oh, and my mom loved it as much as I did, so it was a good way to impress her with my knowledge of the city and do something a little different than the Mall and museums! I was at the brunch, we have to wait in the cold, they won't let you in until the reservation time, service was good, entertaining was ok, not as before, too much "make a noise" screaming... Food is not worth the $40, grits, little fried chicken, some Chinese fried rice, scrambled eggs, super hard old waffles, nothing had labels, not really a brunch food buffet. We came in for HH and were both really impressed. The HH menu is pretty impressive and you can sample quite a bit of the menu while paying for a lot less. I absolutely loved the chicken karaage and pork belly tacos. Both items were cooked perfectly and are highly recommended as they are the perfect bar/drinking food. For sushi, we ordered the spicy tuna, salmon skin and the Element (yellowtail). While everything was tasty, nothing really stood out. They were your standard typical rolls you find at most sushi places. And for that reason I think next time i'll just choose spicy tuna and spicy salmon and forgo the "fancier" rolls since they cost more. The salmon skins didn't do anything for me. But I would absolutely come back here for more HH eats! read more

Food is very bad. If you are looking for good sushi this is not the place. If you were to go to Giant or Safeway.....you could get the same sushi that you would be served at Perry's. Not worth the amount of money you would spend. If you are going for a cocktail I would recommend their drinks. When it came to dessert, my waiter said they had a chocolate mousse. When it came it was cold and hard like a chocolate bar. I felt like I was just eating chocolate and it was topped with some crumbled pistachios and 2 thin pieces of strawberry. Worst dessert I have ever gotten at a restaurant because it clearly was not a chocolate mousse at all. My server was kind, but this is definitely a place I will not be returning to. read more
