I had a truly terrible experience at Dr. Lucas' optometry office, and I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this place if you value your eyes, time, and money. From the beginning, the service was unprofessional in every aspect. Dr. Lucas prescribed glasses that were much too strong for my eyes. I immediately experienced dizziness, headaches, and eye strain, and I could not read properly. When I returned for a second exam, he gave me another prescription, but again it was too strong. Ten days later, when I got the new glasses, I still could not see comfortably--whether on my phone, laptop, or reading. On the third visit, instead of apologizing or correcting the mistake, Dr. Lucas became dismissive and rude. He even asked me what number I wanted for my prescription. I told him that if I could prescribe my own glasses, I wouldn't need to see him. Rather than listening to my concerns, he gave me long, unnecessary explanations about the prescription numbers, which only made things worse. All I wanted was the right lenses to be able to read comfortably. The front desk staff was equally rude and unhelpful. Michelle, in particular, acted as if my concerns were personal attacks. Making appointments and picking up glasses was a nightmare. In total, I had to go there six times for one pair of glasses. Eventually, I gave up and told Dr. Lucas the prescription I wanted myself--and that finally worked better than what he gave me. To put it in perspective: for my right eye, he first prescribed +2.50, but when I asked for +1.75 instead, I could see clearly. That says a lot about the accuracy of his exams. On top of that, because they changed my lenses three times using heat, my own frame (which I had to provide, since my insurance wouldn't cover another one) was damaged. The coating around the lens started peeling just days after I picked them up. One lens even had a fingerprint smudge permanently embedded. When I called about it, Dan at the front desk was rude and dismissive, telling me they couldn't do anything and that I should call my insurance instead. I originally chose this office because of the high reviews on Google and Yelp, but after my experience, I can't understand how those reviews are genuine. Either people don't realize the harm, or the reviews are not authentic. Bottom line: This office is unprofessional, careless, and disrespectful. They wasted my time, damaged my frame, and put my eye health at risk. Please save yourself the trouble and avoid Dr. Lucas' office. read more

I've been wearing contact lenses since I was 15 years old...jump cut to my early 70's...and the rigid bifocal contact lenses that Dr. Lucas fit me with are by far the best I have ever had! Today was my first visit to Dr Lucas. From my initial phone call to to make an appointment to my follow up phone call to verify insurance coverage- to my check in today for my appt -Michelle was awesome! Very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable .... Dr Lucas spent a lot of time with me checking my eyes-asking questions and chatting...I didn't feel rushed like I had at a previous Optometrist that I had seen...he was very thorough and personable. Like a breath of fresh air! Don helped me pick out a frame for my new specs...I joked with him that he was so "technical" as he explained the workings of transition lenses and anti reflective coatings!!! The office is clean with state of the art equipment and they have a large selection of frames for every budget. I only wish that I had found this great office sooner! Dr. Bruce Lucas was able to correct my vision even though I have severe Keratoconus. Many other doctors were unable to provide the right corrective solution. I've experienced many years of 20/20 vision under Dr. Lucas's care and I now have my whole family under his care. The staff is very professional and friendly and they take very good care of us. It's hard to believe that 6 years have passed since I last went there. I returned today to get a stronger prescription of glasses. They got me in and out of there very quickly and were all very nice. There are many optometrists in the neighborhood but this one is really top of the line. I have the VSP insurance, which doesn't cover a whole lot (it's cheap insurance at like $84.00 premium for the year) but it does cover an annual eye exam and the diagnostic tests they do in the office and only the most basic glasses. If you need something stronger in the way of glasses, you'll have to pay some money but it does include breakage insurance and the glasses obviously last awhile. The only concern I had was that some of the frames I saw looked *really* cheaply made compared to the ones I have now. Planned obsolescence, most assuredly...but, they did assure me that it would take no more than a phone call to get a replacement pair. I really appreciate that this office goes above and beyond with everything - a rarity in this day and age. read more

Nice and friendly doctor but staff was not professional, and I would even say clueless. Be aware of extra charges at the end of appointment. They suppose to inform patient first and then schedule appointment. Didn't tell me they don't take BCBS insurance (even though their website lists it as their insurance partner and BCBS website showed them as in network provider). Additionally, their secretary took all the BCBS insurance info before appointment. Doctor's assistant looked confused. I felt like I was being trained on. He couldn't answer any questions. I was never charged before for an eye exam when I had insurance. I'm not coming back. They running some kind of scam. read more

New patient here and had a great experience. I had originally come in to fill a prescription for glasses as I will no longer use Lens Crafters due to their absolute terrible customer service and warranty on their glasses. The fitting went perfectly well as I was assisted by an informed, educated and caring individual. When I completed my fitting I decided to inquire about a challenging prescription that I had from a previous Optometrist. Dr Lucas offered a consultation and assurance he would help me through finding an appropriate, comfortable and well fitted contact lens. I've been to the office twice now for contact fitting and both experiences were exceptional. Dr Lucas and his staff clearly care about their patients and the experience they have at their office. Easy parking, ground floor office and waiting room and a wide selection of popular frames. This has become my new home for all things vision. I've been to a great number of LA based eye doctors and Dr Lucas stands out heads above the rest. Trust me on this people. read more

I have thought about this review for a while. I am not sure exactly how many stars to give, as I think Dr. Lucas is a wonderful doctor. HOWEVER, his billing practices and policies are a bit shady. After making an appointment for a contact prescription for my daughter, Dr. Lucas did a thorough eye exam. At the very beginning of the exam, he reminded my daughter to take her contacts off. At the end of the exam, I was given a prescription only for glasses. I was told that if I wanted a contacts prescription, it would be an additional $190, as they are two separate appointments. In addition, when I had my appointment for reading glasses, I was told the wonders of progressives. They did a great sales job, and assured me that if I did not like them, I could return them. Well, I did not like them. And I did return them. But they would not give me a refund! They agreed to put in the less expensive lenses that my insurance covered, but did not return the $90 EXTRA I paid on top of the glasses for the progressives (That when I made my appointment, I had no intention of buying, until he said I could return them...I guess I should have asked if that meant I would get my money back!) After being told by Dr. Lucas that this is all "standard", I did some checking around...only to find out that it is in fact, not standard. I contact 4 random doctors in a google search, and all of them said that 1) They have a 100% 60-90 day MONEY BACK return policy, and all of them all said that you get a contact prescription AND eye glass prescription in one visit- for one price. So, yes, Love the doctor. No, hate his "standard policy". I give him one star for his business practices, and 4 stars for his ability. UPDATE: And, I wanted to add that I had not only left messages for him to return my calls about how unhappy I was, I also emailed him...no reply. Funny thing, his office called me to remind me that I was due for an exam. I 'reminded' her of how upset I was over what happened, and that he never gave me the courtesy of a reply. She promised me Dr. Lucas would call me back, as it was 'so unlike him'...and still never heard from him. read more

Would not recommend this place unless you want to call and confirm they for the correctly lenses, prescription. 6 times they have had to re order and send back the lenses. They always have an excuse that the place that does the lenses are at fault. Instead of trying a new place they just keep staying we will fix it and charge instead of giving a reasonable answer. Over the last year and a half I have been struggling with trying to be fitted with multifocal contacts. After seeing 2 well known optometrists and one ophthalmologist and spending a couple thousand dollars I gave up because no one could fit me properly. After a few months I grew tired of wearing glasses all day and started doing some research. I eventually discovered Dr. Lucas and read about his success with tough multifocal prescriptions and decided to give it one last try. After greeting his wonderful staff I was seen by Dr. Lucas and yes he quickly figured out my prescription. Unfortunately for this year I was out of coverage from the previous visits to the other doctors but knew it coming in and paid for the exam and contacts. I don't know why he is able to work with harder cases and others are not - but it was worth it for me. I am now comfortable in daily multifocal contacts. I'm at the point now where I need reading glasses and he was able to put me in contacts that allow me to read and drive without any issue. I came to Dr. Lucas for my annual eye exam on my coworker's recommendation. I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in the door. First his staff took care of some of the initial test and then I met Dr. Lucas. He was attentive and took his time with me. Dr. Lucas does a very complete exam, including the newest technology to help him look at the back of the eye, where the earliest signs of damage due to high blood pressure or diabetes show up. This is something I had never seen before he examined my eyes, and I am happy to say, I passed with flying colors. People in his office are very courteous, and there is an optician on site who can fit you with stylish glasses. Made an appointment at 10:30 am. I got a call at 10:13 from the office to see what happened. I said what do you mean, my appointment was at 10:30 not 10 am. It seemed that they had me scheduled at 10 am. I said I am across the street getting my coffee and that I could be there in 2 minutes. He said hold on let me ask the doctor if you are able to be seen. While I was telling the man, he seemed upset and that made me think why am I going to this place where they made a mistake and blaming me? I know for a fact the appointment was at 10:30 because I mentioned to them I could go to the gym at 10 am (my usual class) go for 15 min and then head over, I was making a joke. I was starting to get upset, because how is it my fault when they told me something wrong. I was on hold while I was walking towards the office, again I am across the street. He said the doctor was booked all day and he was not able to see me at all. I understand he doesn't want the other patient to wait. However, in the past I remember waiting for more than 30 minutes because he was with other patient. While I was on hold I said to myself if I was to be seen at 10 am it usually takes some time to be processed and be seen by the doctor. I get doctors book one after another, but it's not fair. I could have made a few minutes late "in their eyes", unfortunately they were not willing to see me. Again, I understand we make mistakes, we are not perfect, but in this case it wasn't mine. I got frustrated on how this was handled. It would have been great if I got a call the day before with a confirmation or an apology that there was miscommunication. I was not treated fair. I have been going there for some time. Unfortunately, our family will no longer go there. My response to the Doctor from his response is as follow: I'm sorry I'm confused by your statement. Please let me know if I understand correctly; you are saying that you were booked back to back on that same day and that is why I wasn't able to be seen. However, I was offered to go back at 1 pm, but that I said: "it didn't work?" This statement does not make sense, and it is not true. I recommend to check in at the front desk because the man over the phone never provided that option to me. The man said he could offer me to schedule for another time. I said no thank you, please do not contact me back and take me off the list. He said ok no problem, after that, the call ended. I was not liking his way of providing customer service, and that is why I said, please don't contact me back ever again. I have a feeling the front desk is providing you and myself different information. If this office was accommodating, they could have waited 13 minutes. Now, if it was my fault, of course, I completely understand not wanting to see me. However, it wasn't. I take responsibility, and from what you are saying and what I have been thru, it seems that there is a huge problem with the communication at the front desk. Therefore, I am discouraged in going back. I also made an appointment somewhere else. In another note, I'm reading what you mentioned that I had three appointments scheduled back to back and canceled them that same day leaving a hold? I'm sorry, but where on earth are you getting your information... Oh, it must be the front desk. I spoke with a lady the day before, which by the way very nice lady, I forgot her name. I did tell her that I was not able to go and she was very grateful. I notified your office the day before, not the same day. The three appointments that we had was for my two kids and myself, which I had a very good reason to cancel. Not sure if you knew this, but the office did know that there was a possibility that I might not go on the previous Saturday because of a reason. Therefore, there were no surprises. After your statement and the stories are not adding up, my family and I will not be going to your office at all. read more

Dr Lucas and Alex are the best. Dr Lucas comes from a family of eye doctors and is always knowledgeable and open to serving his patients. I was a little reluctant to accept his initial prescription but they just kept letting me come back again (and again) until I finally realized his prescription for progressive lenses was the right call (they can be pricey even with insurance..) Alex also has excellent and critical advice on how to deal with insurance companies to get the maximum value for my copay. I finally realized I should be wearing my glasses more often and these progressive lenses are the perfect fix for my vision needs. I wear them all the time now. Eyewear can be pricey but I think definitely worth it when you get the right gear. read more

I tried this optometrist for the first time because my original doctor that I have been seeing for the past 20 years was fully booked but unfortunately I needed contacts as soon as possible, so I chose to try this place out because it was a local place to my area. I have never encountered a horrific experience dealing with such an unprofessional doctor in my life. I am very aware that every year my eye prescription worsens and I have never been told to come in for a yearly eye exam and have contacts settle for a couple of hours then come back if the prescription wasn't suitable. Every time I have seen my doctor he perfectly sets me with my prescription and a full year of lenses with no issues of even having to come back. This doctor is a quack and a Mr Think He Knows It All by bragging about how overly qualified he is that he does speaking for conventions and being representatives for certain eye lenses companies. After I was told to try these pair of eye lenses out I came back and he still couldn't seem to figure out my prescription and after explaining how I felt that I still couldn't see correctly out of my right eye through the contact lens he prescribed, he then became very unprofessional and told he could not work me as a customer and still charged me for a $140 eye exam that he simply couldn't even accomplish! Never have heard of a doctor sending patients home with a wrong prescription ever! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE WHATSOEVER! read more
