The bread was grilled and the garlic was delicate and not overpowering. It was accompanied with a tomato sauce dip which was ok. We used our remaining salad dressing for the dip which complimented the bread. Our salads were very fresh and contained a variety of greens (no iceberg lettuce), carrots, and cucumber. For dessert, we shared a lava cake and vanilla ice cream. It wasn't too big- just enough for a sweet ending to a delicious meal! A friend came in from out of town to visit me, and I wanted to take him someplace a little nice-ish. We both love Italian, so we went in for a visit. One really nice thing is that they crank the AC, which was a welcome relief. They don't have a view, and it is dark inside the restaurant, but the ambiance is still nice. We did get two starters, the BBQ chicken flatbread, and the rosemary focaccia. Both of them were so very tasty. The focaccia was stunning and so warm and fluffy. There weren't any flavors that overpowered each other everyone was in harmony. The BBQ flatbread also was my favorite thing that we got. The BBQ was sweet, but it had depth. The chicken was plentiful, and the flatbread was nice and crispy. I got the chicken parmesan. It honestly left something to be desired. That was the flattest piece of chicken that I had ever seen or eaten. It really was like they got a chicken Coldcut meant to be in your sandwich and fried it. I get needing to make your menu expansive but don't be tacky about it. The pasta with it was steaming hot, and the sauce was so good. I would have rathered just the spaghetti and cheese than the sad excuse for chicken parmesan. My friend got the shrimp scampi. The first thing he said was that it was pretty room temperature. This was a disappointment, but he said it was really good. The flavors were there, and the lemon really came out. Overall we both enjoyed the meal. Everyone said this was the best restaurant on the island-everything is made fresh. On the way there we were in the taxi with another gentleman and he happened to be the manager of the restaurant. He was so friendly and called in an order of appetizer for us on the house. Our server which was also our bartender was so helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the drinks and wine along with the chocolate lava cake with tiramisu ice cream (recommended by our server). The rigatoni was on the salty side. The snapper was perfectly crisp and it was huge. I wish it came without the lemon caper sauce -it was a bit strong. Went to Pesce last night at the recommendation of our concierge and after looking up reviews. We made a reservation for 7:15 and called in because we were going to arrive past our reservation time due to it taking a taxi 20 minutes to get to us. They were kind and accommodating. We arrived 5 minutes past our arrival time and were seated immediately. Upon making our reservation we were prompted to choose high top or low top. We weren't sure which to choose and were seated at a small, low top in the back corner of the restaurant that felt very claustrophobic, so after visiting I would choose high top! Thankfully the table next to us opened up and they allowed us to move. That table was next to a pony wall with an open display shelf which felt much better. We started with a flatbread (Margarita) which took about 30 minutes to get to the table. It was okay but did not have sauce on it as anticipated- my hubby likes pizza with sauce on it. It had halved small cherry tomatoes instead, cheese, basil and garlic. It did the trick because we were quite hungry. The staff were very kind and helpful. My husband is Italian and makes excellent Italian food so it can be a challenge going to Italian Restaurants. The pasta was delicious. Steve suggested the Pappardelle Bolognese when we asked for a recommendation and it was very good! I ordered the Truffle Pappardelle and it was nice but the Bolognese was the clear winner. The truffle flavor did not come through well and the sauce was a brown, clear looking gravy type sauce with more of a beef flavor coming through it seemed. Hubby added meatballs to his and I added chicken to mine. Meatballs were not our favorite, the chicken was a basic breast. Great to add some protein to the dish but nothing special. It probably took 25 minutes for our food to arrive after we finished our flatbread but we anticipated a slower meal based upon reviews. We finished with a Limoncello Kiss since the limoncello is made in house but it was quite sweet in our opinion and we actually did not finish it. We ordered the mussels, I had the seafood pasta and my husband the Alfredo both were delicious. The food arrived at a reasonable time and their wine list is pretty good considering the location. We had 2 bottles of Kim Crawford ($50 each) pretty pricey compared to regular store prices but you're in St.Thomas and everything on the islands is to be expected higher prices. Overall I really enjoyed Pesce, however I've had better Italian so I am going with a 4 (I would do 4.5 if able!). My little sister has had a hard time eating out in St Thomas because she is gluten intolerant, so we really appreciated that Pesce had gluten free pasta and gluten free pizza. I had the pappardelle and my wife had marinara pasta with meatballs. My mom had the fried manicotti and it was not very good. We found this delightful restaurant in the town* of Red Hook. Stepping inside was like arriving by gondola to a town in Italy: aromas of fresh house made pasta, seafood, focaccia, basil and homey-gnocchi made us pray to the gods we made a great decision! The menu was excellent, fit for any taste and appropriately priced. The wine list was excellent. We ordered a 1916 Amaroni which was to die for!! We shared everything wanting to divide each course and delicious moment together. Flatbread and salads were excellent (sigh). We ordered Shrimp Scampi which was served uniquely: on top of an oh so creamy sauce! On top of handmade spaghetti, lay seven little rascals, the huge Shrimp! This dish we would definitely order again, asking next time the shrimp a little less done. But, oh my very seafood prayer was answered! If it was polite and legal, I would have laid my body onto the tiramisu. Husband was doing the same with his brûlée! * note: It's truly amazing, when you are on an island; St.Thomas US Virgin Islands to be exact, and reggae music surrounds everything. The Caribbean culture is alive with Marley style tunes and Caribe hip-hop. Even at this age I wanted to dance everywhere. They drive on the left side here (Oh No!) so we ex-nayed the car-nay. We came here back around Christmas time (sorry for the delay) and it was fantastic! We got a bottle of Justin for the table and the meatball appetizer. For the start we knew it was going to be a good meal. There means has a lot of options for any kind of food restriction type of people (no seafood, vegetarian, gf, ect.). They also take pride in making all the pasta in house and it's worth it. I was only able to get a picture of my gnocchi while my family quickly dug into the bolognese, carbonara and veal. What is a plan looking outside of the building, leads you into a what I would consider an upper scale looking Italian Restaurant. Pleasing colors, wood finishes, white tablecloths covered in white butcher paper, nice ambient lighting. Gives the feeling of a great date night or special occasion place. Unfortunately, after that it fell flat. We (2 top) walked in right at opening, to an empty restaurant and were promptly greeted with " do you have a reservation" my response was doesn't look like we need one. Pretty sure he was the manager and immediately the attitude kicked in. Seated at 5:05 on a Sunday. Without getting more into the attitude issue I give you the following. Bruschetta ordered for an app, very tasty and nicely presented- but it took 25+ minutes to bring to the table. Bolognese was ordered by the wife, not terrible , fresh pasta was very good, but the bolognese sauce itself had a very heavy hand of tomato paste. I'm guessing that was done to shorten the cooking time of a true bolognese. They did provide fresh grated parm tableside, I had chicken Francese and sub out the polenta cake with fresh linguine. Again pasta was spot on, as well as the sautéed veggies; chicken was cooked perfectly- the caveat - they used a very heavy hand of sage in the dish. A first for me. There is no bread service of any kind - not as a starter, nor with any of the dishes. As to service itself.... One, ONE waitress for the entire restaurant. Needless to say service wasn't in their wheelhouse on this Sunday night. Bartender, manager and kitchen manager was it. Oh, and the reservation thing...we walked out 1 hour and 50 minutes after walking in...and the place was still half empty. The food could be incredible, someone in the kitchen knows their techniques, but they fail miserably at seasoning correctly. On a bright note, they do have a happy hour 5-7 every day at the bar with some reasonable prices on apps, beer and wine by the glass. read more

Okay, so we were up in the air about Virgilio's or this place, we were staying in Red Hook and decided to forgo the 20 min drive it would take to get to the other restaurant. I'm glad we did! Our entrees included the white truffle pelladarre (not sure if I spelled that correctly, apologies if not) it was a new item in their menu. As well, Chicken Parmesan; all the noodles are house made and absolutely divine! The white truffle pasta dish was savory, Smoky, with deep flavor, an exceptional recommendation that came from our waiter. The chicken Parmesan was delicious, nothing like oh my god amazing, but honestly, the leftovers I ate for breakfast tasted even better than the night before! If you're into wine, they have a nice cellar with ample variety of many notable vineyards! I was impressed with the available selection they had. To top dinner off we finished it with a lava cake that was mouthwatering and takes you to your tastebuds happy place.
