I am a huge animal lover and we currently own two dogs, both of whom were adopted. When I was recently running an errand at S Shore Plaza, I stopped into Pet Express -- the experience made me so sad and angry. First, I saw adorable puppies in cages, some of which were too small -- two larger puppies, in particular, one a Labradoodle and one a German Shepherd puppy. No matter what the size of dog, they all had water dispensers the size of those in a gerbil or hamster cage -- how they got enough water was beyond me, especially the larger dog who had water dispensers the size of the small toy breeds. I watched a Shih Tzu puppy trying to repeatedly get water from the dispenser and it did not look like anything was coming out. I asked to play with the Labradoodle just to get him out of his cage for awhile. When he was put back in his cage, he fought to stay out and did not want to go back in...the staff member closed the door on him several times trying to get him back in. When I asked the staff member who assisted me how puppies were placed in homes, they informed me that if I could pay for the puppy, I could take him home that day -- no pre-screening to ensure that the home and family situation was a good match for the puppy. The entire experience made me so angry and frustrated -- in this day and age, how can anyone be so nieve to be unaware that all of the Pet Express puppies come from puppy mills, the staff did not seem to care in the least about the puppies, I saw one puppy being "returned" by a couple who decided they didn't have time for the dog and I could hear quite a bit of barking from dogs behind the scenes who were not in the cages - I can't imagine what it must be like being cooped up in the small glass cages with little to no water, little room for exercise and nothing to do -- it's incredible that businesses like this have not been outlawed. read more

I bought a Cairn Terrier almost 5 years ago (in Dec w/be 5yrs). I have not had one problem with him at all. His temperment is awesome, he's so loveable, friendly, snuggly, funny as anything! He and my Westie are the best of buds, they chase each other around the dining room table play all day are a total joy! He was even so gentle with my 19 year old cat before he passed away. I really can't say that buying from a breeder is better or worse, I bought my westie from a breeder and he was extremely sick, I almost lost him he had a terrible lung infection and was very dehydrated. This particular breeder warranteed her animals so when I told her what was wrong, she didn't want to compensate me for any portion of the $600 vet bill, but said just bring the dog back and she will give me another.. I said I"m all set!! I loved my dog and his personality. It was like if I had a baby just because it was sick would I give it back to get another? I think not. So animals no matter where you get them, they all need love and affection and they don't chose where they come from, breeder, shelter or pet store. Do what's best for you. Please dont assume every dog that is created is from a puppy mill. Did you know, in New England alone, there are no real requirments for breeding. So that means anyone can be considered a "reputable" breeder. Most puppy mill states are along the eastern coat or down south. Unfortunatly, other pet stores (some that are no longer in business) only cared for the quick buck instead of the general well being of the puppies. All of Pet Express puppys are loved and cared for to the highest potentional. If the dogs were all sick, then they wouldnt be for sale. Pet Express actually cares. and it shows through with their customer service and how they can talk about some of the dogs. Just because its another pet store, doesnt mean its the same as all the others ones. Also this... How many pet store sells dog...? Answer is, VERY FEW. Reason why, Others, they went out of business. Why do you think Pet Express is around...? Maybe its because they actually care for these dogs inturn, making a profit and continuning business. First off id like to say "WOW" if this is the cleanest pet store i ever seen!!!!! i purchased a puppy from pet express in square one mall a month ago, and we are so happy. we read some of the reviews. and had to go see for ourselves. the staff was great, the place was so clean the the vibe was just so alive! you haters out there need to do your homework, i am starting to believe that these negative reviews are just ati- pet store haters.. shame shame. if you are looking for a puppy and are new at this Pet Express is the place to go, Puppies are alive people they have problems if you didnt know this going in your falt its how they are handled is what makes you a good pet owner. get over it and enjoy your puppy!!!! read more

Our family readlly wanted a rabbit. We live in the Boston area and literally the only place that sells them are from donation and we wanted a young bunny. We arrived at the store and there was an extremely helpful worker there who showed us the incredible collection of bunnies. We chose a beautiful gray rabbit who we still have almost two years later. It's a far drive from where we live in Boston so we don't get most of our supplies there but we still go back every once in a while just to see the pets. I have heard their puppies are from mills but I just don't know if that;s true so I'm not going to confirm that here. I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants a small animal. read more

I have been very happy with the dog I purchased at pet express. At first i had concerns after reading the other reviews but I was able to check out everything Pet Express gave me. All the dogs papers were in order and I had no issue tracking down the breeder who was not a puppy mill. It's sad to hear that others had issue with Pet express but i have had a much different experience. Everyone was helpful and they had nothing to hide. i am thinking about getting a puppy for my GF for Hanukkah and will 100% go to Pet Express should she decide she wants a puppy. Don't pay attention to the bottom reviews! Pet Express is an amazing business. I went to the store the other day in Saugus and was told that they sell dogs from Midwest states because they have strict laws against puppy mills. New England does not have laws, so they don't buy them from here. I don't know why everyone assumes these dogs are from puppy mills, look at them. They're healthy, and the store gives numerous warranties in case ANYTHING goes wrong. I recently bought a puppy from them and I am completely in love. She's everything I wanted. read more

so, my roommate an I go to Suffolk and we got an Iguana from this place a couple weeks ago it it is sick. We thought it would be way more expensive to maintain and hard to take care of, but we literally have to do nothing, he (Oscar) just chills.. If you've never held or seen an Iguana, I suggest you make it a point! The other Pet Express stores didn't have reptiles so make sure you go to the Lynn store! I recently purchased a puppy from Pet Express. I was hesitant to purchase from a pet store, and I wish I had stuck with my instincts. First of all, I looked up my puppy's "breeder", only to find that is was undoubtably a puppy mill. Expired medications, maggots in the food, etc! Then, I took my dog to the vet where he was diagnosed with kennel cough and ear mites! Honestly, while the puppies look appealing and cute, don't buy from this place. It's obvious to me that these poor babies are not getting the medical attention they deserve. read more

Very happy with my experience getting a puppy from Pet Express. They had a ton of cute puppies to look at, I wish I could have gotten more than just one! The guy I talked to was very knowledgeable and told me what kind of food to buy, all kinds of good stuff. The store was very clean too, I have been to a few other places that were not so pleasant so I was glad Pet Express was nice inside. We also purchased our dog from Pet Express. The staff was friendly and helpful in choosing the dog but I was a little bit disappointed because I had to purchase "The starter Kit" -that's how they call it- and I never used it since I've got the dog. 150 $ for a cage, 2 toys. treats. If you are planning to buy a dog from there think twice before saying YES I would like to get the starter kit as well. The puppies in this store are from Hunt Corp and Hunt is one of the biggest Puppy Brokers. It is know Hunt buys it's puppies from Puppy Mills. Don't be fooled by the remark of "the puppies are from USDA Approved Breeders", that doesn't mean anything. Do a google search of puppy mills and you will see that they are USDA approved. Just remember a "Reputable Breeder" WILL NOT SELL THEIR PUPPIES TO A PUPPY BROKER OR PET STORE. Buyer Beware!! read more

I got a dog from this store, he died after 2 weeks from what the vet said was Distemper, I tracked down the so called AKC registered breeder, it was a 17 year old girl from the south, they buy their dogs through a massive shipping company that buys from puppy mills in the the south. They are rude ignorant and hopefuly going out of business. read more

this place is great, i got my lab from here in may he is doing great, this family owned buisness, special ordered our dog for us, and he came from a great breeder with champion blood lines, he is awesome, im planning to get another one soon. i cant imagine having any problems with them. this is a great pet store read more

I come here to get supplies for the rabbit I purchased here. Floppers the bunny has grown well and is a good buddy and friendly face for me to come home to. Pet express sells all the supplies that Floppers needs and the staff are helpful. It's nice to be supporting a local business that pays attention to me. read more

If you're looking for dogs, definitely go to Saugus. The kennels are much cleaner and the dogs look like they're taken better care of. I don't think they're puppy mill dogs, it's just that they're older and a lot bigger than the newborns in Saugus. read more

How sad to see that Mccaw living out its life in a cage surrounded by glass! I am having nightmares over seeing this unfortunate creature having to endure this. The owners need to be educated and punished for the terrible life this mccaw has! read more
