Brought our two small dogs to Pet Playhouse for an overnight trip to Reno. It was great to bring them with us for the trip up from the Bay Area and likewise for the trip back. Staff is friendly and our dogs seemed to be well taken care of. Check in was quick and easy. Facility clean and organized. Nice option to have dogs stay in communal quarters or in their own room. Our pups are always happy to be there. I love that when we board them we can set up a "bedtime story" so they get one on one time before bedtime, just like at home. I'm sorry but I would not recommend this place to anyone. The only reason why we even put our dogs in boarding was because Grand Sierra Hotel doesn't accept dogs & we had got a free room there for our birthdays. Something inside of me was saying to just pay for a hotel room that allowed dogs. Reasons on why I wouldn't go back: 1. The people are not the friendliest. There was a guy that we spoke too and he was really polite, I liked him. But the lady that gave us a tour did not seem like she liked her job at all. 2. The small dog play area is so freaking tiny. Like it's sad how many small dogs are thrown into that room together. The second I saw that I said nope keep my dogs in their room instead. 3. I paid for Facebook photos for both of my dogs & I paid for them to text me photos too. I couldn't believe this fee. I didn't see any Facebook photos posted. I guess I was expecting more photos. I mean Rover sends you as many pictures as you want. I also paid for them to get ice cream. How do I know they even got it? A picture of them eating ice cream would have been better. 4. I understand they are busy with all the dogs, but when we asked if we could call to check on the dogs she basically told me it would go to voicemaIl and they would call me back. 5. When my dogs came home a week or so later they both got KENNEL COUGH. Omg I was so upset. The only place with dogs they were exposed to was this place. So yay to taking two dogs to the vet. With the boarding fees and vet bills, we definitely should have just booked a dog friendly hotel. It would have eased my mind a lot. I didn't feel confident leaving my babies here and I should have trusted my gut. Some people may love this place, it just wasn't for us. I do want to thank that guy, I wish I remembered his name. My dog, Tallahassee, can hardly contain his excitement when he realizes we're taking him to Pet Play House. He always has SO much fun there. He's stayed for just daycare up to a full week-and-a-half. I have boarded my dog many times over the past several years and always have felt guilty knowing he was locked in a cage for the better part of the day. While in Reno for a long weekend recently, I took my dog to Pet Play House during the day and was extremely pleased with all aspects of this facility! The staff was super friendly, the premises were clean, and most of all, the dogs were NEVER kenneled! He had non-stop play for the whole day with the freedom to roam in and out at his leisure. The staff really seemed to care about the dogs in their care, and did an amazing job at seeing that he was safe and happy while I was out and about. I plan on taking him here when I move back to Reno just to enjoy the company of the other dogs! read more

My border collie loves spending time at Pet Play House. She comes home everyday exhausted. We have tried other doggy day cares in Reno and were highly disappointed. Clean, well-appointed facility, with friendly staff. Boarded my puppy Caesar here for a week when I went out of town (in 2015), as my elderly husband has difficulty dealing with the pup's energy level. I called to check on him, and the lady was nice enough to pull his file & actually go & LOOK to see how he was doing. When I picked up the puppy & got him home, I could see a marked improvement in his behavior. And boy, was he tired! I've since taken him for daycare a few times & love the way the staff is ready for him the minute we walk in. One tip: If you need to board your dog, make reservations WAY in advance so you're sure to get a spot. They're very popular, especially around holidays & during the Reno events season (July-Sept). read more

I'm sure whoever I was talking to was having a bad day but she was rude and condescending. I was trying to explain an issue that my dog has to see if this would be a good place for her and she couldn't have cared less. I understand there is an online application to fill out(which honestly should be on your voicemail message considering it's impossible to reach someone directly) but she didn't have to act so annoyed that I didn't know about it. My dog has separation anxiety and it's hard for me to trust someone to take good care of her while I'm away. Considering I am trying to look for a responsible, friendly, clean company to look after a loved one while I am away, she did not try to assure me of anything. read more

Our Aussie, Murphy, spends 1-2 days per week at Pet Playhouse. He's never too sure where we're heading in the car, but once we pull up to Pet Playhouse, he gets very excited. The staff is great. They know my dog's name better than they know mine! She gets a "report card" when I pick her up about what she has done during the day. If there are any problems, I know about them right away. She also boards there. For day care dogs, they can sleep together at night for a "slumber party" instead of being isolated in a room. They work hard to make sure she is happy while I'm gone. read more

I was very disappointed in this boarding facility. The woman at her front desk was rude and did not listen to what I was trying to explain to her about my dog's special needs. This same employee refused to allow my dog to play with the others because she wasn't able to handle him. I asked that the staff continue to work with him, as my dog is very shy and frightens easily, however they did not and my dog was not allowed to play for 5 days, which was part of the service I paid for. On top of all of it, when I picked up my dog, he was lethargic and had an eye infection. I have boarded my dog in several facilities across several states and have never had a problem. I would not recommend boarding your dog here! read more

This was the first time ever boarding my dog and this place is amazing. I chose it because it's not a bunch of 'metal cages' they are actual rooms. The staff was so kind and let me view his room. I would highly recommend. After boarding here I had to use another place in Reno that had 'luxury rooms' for the dogs, but this is not the case. 100% Pet Playhouse is better. Today was boy boys first day and I can't say enough good things about this place. My dog went to another daycare in the area but they never communicated anything. I didn't know if my dog was good that day or even had fun, not to mention they had too many dogs in one small space. Pet Play House was helpful, fast at responding, gave me a little slip telling me who my dog played with, and let me know how he did throughout the day. Though the other daycare was cheaper, Pet Play House gives me great peace of mind and is still very affordable. The best dog day care and overnight experience we've used for our fur kids. Great service with a smile, super organized, hours and policies that work, reasonable rates, easy drop off/pick up. Our 2 Goldendoodles LOVE to come here. We've used their bath service, which is also great. And the crafts! They do crafts! Great keepsakes that always make us smile :-). One other super favorable part of our experience is that the environment is kept really clean. The dogs come home without an unpleasant odor experienced at other facilities. Thank you Pet Play House! I lived in California until we retired here full time in December 2012. I have to spoiled Bichons. They had never been kenneled before. I went to all the kennels in Reno/Sparks area and was ready to give up when we found the Pet Play House. We stopped by and were given a tour of their facility. It was the first kennel I was wiling to try. Now my boys have been staying there several times a year. I always get them a condo, a huge place we're they have two rooms, their own beds and their own food. They get to go into small dog play care all day and then relax in their condo. They have never come home hurt or in distress. So I feel ok about leaving them so I can have a vacation! The things I would change is: the have limited Sunday pick up to ten to two. IF you don't pick them up before noon you still get charged for a full day if you pick them up at two. Calling to see how the boys are is difficult as most of the time ypu must leave a message. But those are just minor knowing my boys are safe and that a person is onsite 24/7 reduces my stress. Thank you Pet Play House for taking good care of my boys so I can got places! read more

This place does not "get" dog boarding, period. I will never take my dogs there again. Used them once and that was enough. My issue, in short, is inadequate and untrained staff. I elected for the highest end options for my dog and was sorely disappointed in what I saw from the start with intake and upon picking my dog up. Long wait, lack of connecting with/empathy toward the stressful experience for the dog, etc. Then, during his stay, my well socialized dog who regularly goes on dog field trips and to dog parks with no issue, got into a tussle with another dog there. They then treated my dog like he was an aggressive, dangerous dog from then on and quarantined him...but still charged me for the (unused) social times he was supposed to be let out. When I picked him up, I asked if my dog had any issues with any of the other 10+ dogs he played with...the answer was "no." Were changes considered for other dog's routine..."no...just yours'...had you boarded the other dog before..."no." Please do not get me wrong...I do not think my dog is an angel...he is not my furry child...he is a dog. However, he has zero dog aggression issues and incidents in a long history of being exposed to many, many, many different dogs. This is NOT a dog that sits at home and attacks other dogs when out. I have no faith in this facility's qualifications or manner of operation. read more

Back when I had two German Rothwielers I would board them here. I just didn't have the heart to leave them home when I would be gone for a week or two. The people at this establishment were very good to them and if one of them would get sick they would take care of it. I was excited to try out Pet Play House when I read the rave reviews here. Unfortunately, I didn't experience the same TLC as some other reviewers. The sign up process was easy- I answered a few questions online and then called to book. When I called, I talked to the person answering about what area my dog would best play in. She is a fun, active but easily intimidated two year old, short, 30 lb beagle mix. She loves playing with other dogs but it takes awhile for her to warm up to dogs much bigger than her. I mentioned this to the person over the phone and they said that she "might" be able to go into the small dog area. I am usually pretty persuasive so I decided to go with that and bring her in. I dropped Winnie off at about 8 am on a weekday morning. I was greeted somewhat halfheartedly by the person working at the computer. I explained again that Winnie is a little skittish around big dogs, and she told me that Winnie was too big to go into the small dog area. I asked her what the weight limit is for the small dog area and she replied, "like, chihuahua size." That sort of rubbed me the wrong way- so there's a chihuahua area and an all other dogs area? After reading all the reviews and checking out the very fancy website, I walked into PPH expecting a nice atmosphere. Instead, there were tons of dogs barking and snarling, smashing up against walls, and it seemed kind of crowded, though I couldn't see enough to be sure. Of course, dogs playing are loud, so without a good visual I can't hold that against them. I asked the worker how many dogs they usually had in a day, and she told me 70. She also told me that there are about five humans working with the dogs on any given day. This doesn't really match up with what I read on the ASPCA website about what to look for- doggie daycares are supposed to have MAX 10-15 dogs playing together at one time, and there should be a human available for each small group. The dogs at PPH are able to roam into lots of rooms, which is theoretically a plus, but from what little I saw the dogs just tended to gather in one place, which creates this weird dog gang behavior. Against my gut, I said OK, and watched as my little dog was introduced to the big dogs. They did keep their promise as stated on the website of introducing her to one dog at a time. But these dogs were so, so big. I think the first dog was literally a Doberman. She looked intimidated. She seemed to be warming up for a moment and I took that opportunity to step out, as I wasn't permitted to be in the area as she got comfortable. I don't get that rule, btw, but hey, I'm not a doggie daycare owner, and I wanted to be respectful and leave it in their hands. So, about twenty minutes later I got a call from PPH saying that Winnie "wasn't really into it"- as I suspected, she got overwhelmed when approached by more than a few dogs three times the size of her. I went back and picked her up. Instead of having a staff member bring her out into the guest area, she had been left in the little gated entrance to the dog play area. The big dogs that she had been intimidated by were still barking at her from the other side! Seriously? That being said, she was all good after a few minutes in the car, but I think that the staff should have given her a little more TLC after she was obviously scared. So- on one hand, I really appreciate that the staff called me to pick her up before something got ugly. And to be fair, they did not promise me that she would be able to play with the small dogs (ahem, chihuahuas), nor did they charge me for the twenty short minutes of experimentation. So they retain two stars for not totally sucking. However, I think it's ridiculous that they don't have a medium size dog area, that owners are not allowed to help their pets adjust to the new environment, and that this place doesn't adhere to the industry standards. What's more, I didn't appreciate that Winnie was locked up and barked at in the time it took me to get back there. This seems like an ok place for big dogs, but I can't recommend anyone that has a dog larger than a chihuahua but smaller than a golden take their dog here. read more

I have a pup and am going to take him to pet play house once a week to make sure that he has the opportunity to meet and play with dogs of all sizes and ages. read more
