I shop at this location every week for my dogs food, treats, toys, and grooming supplies and always was treated fairly until today, and actually it was a very embarrassing situation for me and the employee only made me more embarrassed! My dog used the bathroom in the store, I had no problem cleaning it up, I seen a employee walking by and I explained to her my dog used the bathroom was there some place I could throw it away she put her hands over her nose and started backing away from me and then told me I had to throw it away outside behind the store! Was I supposed to leave the stuff somewhere I already shopped for and walk my dog back behind the store throw away the mess, then come back in and continue shopping? Or carry it around and try and continue shopping, knowing if I needed anymore help I'd get the employee with their hands over their face? I just kept what I had didn't finish shopping and headed to the line, i then asked another employee if there was someplace I could toss the mess and she too instructed me to the trash behind the store. I walked back there there is a huge wooded gate back there I was expected to open with my dog and the trash cans are bigger then me how was i supposed to get the lid opened? Not to mentioned it was raining today! I'm in there faithfully every weekend, they carry the fresh pet food which isn't cheap, they allow animals in there and this is the first time she ever used the bathroom in there scents throw them off and sometimes this can happen I think they should be a little more accommodating, sometimes sh*t happens! I'm sorry my dog used the bathroom in there trust me it was embarrassing, but rodents, and raccoons hang out by trash cans, I didn't know what I was gonna see or my dog would chase behind that fence, it just doesn't seem like the safest was for your customers to dispose of their mess :( I've enclosed pictures of how big this gate was, and how far it is from the door! #responsiblepetowner read more

I gave this a one star and that's still not low enough. I took my Yorkie to get groomed only due to my work schedule and my groomer not working. I went over the services they offered with the groomer and asked her not to cut his skirt...trim it around his paws and make sure his back side was shaved. She gave me the assurance that she would take care of my dog. Let me interject that I've had my dog for over ten years and the only time he was not skirted is when I got him. Plus, he's my second Yorkie and the first one was also skirted. When I came to pick him up, her first comment to me was that she cut his skirt a little more than what I wanted. I asked her why did she cut it and she said his legs were matted and she called herself showing me a mat???? First and foremost, my dog may have needed a bath, but I brush my dog regularly due to his skirt sweeping in leaves and other stuff in my house. Plus his original groomer always comments on how well I keep him brushed. Furthermore you can see where the clippers started and stopped on his back. Every leg is different and his undercarriage is all different lengths. His facial hair is longer on one side than the other and the there is NO SKIRT! Needless to say, I was engulfed in rage and felt it was better if I just paid my bill and left. Stevie Wonder could have done a better job. I promise I will never go back here to get my baby groomed. I will just take a day off and continue driving 15 minutes instead of 5 to get him groomed. Lesson learned....if you have a good groomer, just press and keep them, because all groomers are not equal. This happened on Saturday and I'm still angry about it. read more

No complaints with this store line. They have multiple selections of food for both dogs and cats. The treats that my cats like. The litter that I buy for my cat's is half the price of what it is at the local grocery store. The other nice thing is the employees will carry your stuff out to your car for you because if you're buying in bulk they can be really heavy. So prices are good, good selection, stores are clean and the employees are helpful. What more can you ask for? read more

DO NOT BUY FOOD here they sell moldy food and refuse to replace it. Apparently you have to bring it back within a certain time, which the store could not tell me what that was, when you buy a 30# bag of food and find a moldy blob at the bottom it can take a while to get to it. This is something the store could not understand. So after years of being a loyal customer I will shop elsewhere and make sure all of my friends know about this pet unfriendly store. read more

Staff is exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Groomer is fantastic with my Corgi puppy, who can be difficult. Stock selection is great and never low. read more

Normally, I have a wonderful experience at the store in St. Clair Shores. Prices are good, store is always stocked, staff is pleasant. It wasn't until roughly a month ago when I came in for some dog and cat food that the current issue arose. I always take a look at what kind of animals are for sale, and saw they had two tarantulas in an aquarium. I am an avid tarantula/arachnid enthusiast, and currently own 80+ of my own. So, when I saw both the Avicularia avicularia (pink toe), and Grammostola porteri ("rose hair") had sponges in their water dish, I had to speak up. I approached a manager and expressed my concern about the spread of mold and bacteria due to the sponges, and how that's a HUGE no-no for inverts. He assured me he'd mention it to the vet tech manager in charge of all the animals' welfare, and I thanked him. I came in roughly a week later, and saw the same sponges in the tarantulas' enclosures. I, again, ask for a manager, and was given the same speech as before: "A vet tech is the manager", "She knows what she's doing", and so forth. Again, I insisted this is almost the worst possible way to provide a water source, given mold and bacteria growth is lethal to tarantulas. The female manager said she'd pass on the information to a Stefanie, stating she's her "right-hand manager." Fast forward two more weeks. I come in with a friend, and guess what I saw. Yep. Those same sponges. It's infuriating to see the staff so apathetic to the care of these often misunderstood creatures. I wasn't trying to be a know-it-all. I was, and still am, concerned about the well-fair of those animals. If they weren't grossly overpriced, I'd take them home, Hopefully, the next time I'm in, I can meet this Stefanie, and maybe my words of wisdom won't fall on deaf ears. read more

*** update *** I got an amazing response from the store manager. She definitely looked at this situation as a learning opportunity. She was very pleasant to speak with, in fact I went back the next day. I had more time to browse so I ended up with a lot more. Customer service is important to her and that's how you keep your neighborhood store vital. Thanks guys for reaching out. The store has new management who seem to want this store to thrive. Instead of blowing my comment off, I had a call the next morning. Changing my one star to a three for now. I'm hoping to continue seeing better service. Thanks Shelby Made it to the store after work to pick the cats up some food. A couple of my rescues are only able to eat a particular brand that you cannot buy at a bigger store. I arrived at the store, walk up and almost ran into the doors that are supposed to open until 9pm. Nope, the doors closed 4 minutes early. I understand that they don't want shoppers taking their time, browsing, spending money at almost closing time. The employees are young and probably want to leave asap. They did just look at me though, I got that much. This does not line up with the closing time of 9pm. One bag of food was all I wanted. Had problems with rude service, incorrectly priced items with a shrug of the shoulders, but... they are local. Won't be back. I checked online and at 9pm was when the store times changed to closed. Not 8:55pm, 8:56. That's just bad service to me. My one bag of food does cost $40 bucks so it's not a cheap run in and run out purchase, but that was what was going to happen. Rescues need a lot of food and I spend a lot of money. I guess I'll have to find somewhere else to shop from now on. I'd avoid this store if any of my concerns would bother you. read more

I'm new to the area and used to go to the location on Garfield. I have to say I'm so happy to find this store by my new house! I am not a fan of Petco, especially the one at 9 mile & Gratiot.. I came in here last week to purchase a new leash, collar, dog food, treats & toys for our rescue Layla. Staff was very friendly, gave her free treats at the checkout and were also very helpful with finding Layla the correct harness for her to wear while walking. I'd reccommend PSP to everyone with an animal. read more

I'm ONLY giving 1 Star to Liam the store manager in tonight, and him only. I usually have 5+ store experience every time I go. Tonight, we took our dogs in for self baths, and there was only one tub available. So, I knew my Brittany would fit, so I thought I'd get a head start, until I noticed there was NO drain plug in the bath. I asked my husband to ask for one. He came back and said there isn't one. I asked him to ask the grooming department and the lady came over and wanted me to use a rubber cover for the drain. I said that's not what I needed because the water needs to drain. I then asked for the store manager. Liam walked past me then told another person to mop by the pole, then finally came to me. I again asked for a drain plug, and inquired why there wasn't one there. He replied with there hasn't been one there since he's worked there. I asked how long that was. He said 9 months. I asked as a store manager, you know there isn't a drain plug, and you've done nothing about it. Liam's reply was, "I'm not allowed to order one". I asked my he hasn't asked the person who could to order one. Now this drain is deep with a metal band on it to hold the drain, SO easy for a dog to put their paw in and cut themselves. It's a safety hazard. I said if he knew there wasn't a drain plug, he should have done something about it. His reply was a non empathic "ok". I asked who his boss was and when they would be in. As he came back to tell me, he came to me for one second, then continued to give me the information as he was walking away. We came to PPS, when they opened these self baths, and it has been great until tonight. We used to go to PetValu and we will be going back. They are so helpful and have everything you need, drain plugs on ALL baths, and if you need something they are the friendliest and will go out of their way to get you what you need. Will be happy to give them our business from now on. I wrote this before talking to the top manager. I will talk to him tomorrow and will do a review on my experience with him. But as for Liam, one star! read more

I went to this store a few weeks ago. I went again today I had a coupon from a local Kroger store for $5 off my purchase. The store is a filthy means the shelving is being moved from its prior position. I understand its work in progress but in a month they still have NOT washed all the dirt and dust off the floors. I found myself stepping over the filth left from moving the shelving. Who is the manager of this place a 18 year old? Um..I think I'm going to another store!! Coupon or not. The young kid was not helpful and couldn't even ring up my coupon they sent me in my email. Oh and by the way, NO cell phone service for most phones in this store!! Screenshot coupons before entering or you can't get them inside. Crazy dirty, unorganized, and lazy workers. NOT 1 of them asked me if i needed help carrying out food or if I needed help finding anything else. The coupon for cat food wasn't worth the hastle to go there. Clean store and courteous staff. Parking lot is deceiving, most people want to park on the side of the business but there is a huge additional parking lot in the back. Would like to see a better stock of the type of guinea pig food I buy, they only seem to have one or two bags which I snag up each time I go. read more
