Fantastic staff. They actually have experience with pets. No joke. Even reptiles. I have gotten so much help from a number of them to pick out our gecko and get what we needed and learn about our gecko along the way. To top it off the manager has gone above and beyond to make sure I have what I need for my gecko even when getting food for him was hard. She actually cares about the animals, long after sale. I ADORE THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE. I work as a manager in another retail store, so I'm always very very critical about the customer service I get when I shop. But I'm telling you, every time I go to Pet Supplies Plus in West Roxbury, I get the best customer service. I would specifically like to name JB and Joe as two people who were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to when I had NO idea what I needed. This is the first review I've ever left about anything, but I feel so strongly about this place that I felt I must. The help I received from both JB and Joe on two separate occasions has turned me into a serious fish lover and a loyal Pet Supplies Plus customer. Never shopping at another pet store again! Very Good pet store for food, treats and toys. Prices are fair. I only good for dog products so can't speak for anything else .

They have a great selection and staff is always friendly. I see a negative review about cleanliness and I do feel like a few years ago there was some problem in the building that caused a funky smell..? Maybe that was when they happened to shop. My husband and I have shopped here for years as it is one of the few places in our area that carry Primal Raw! Sometimes the stock is a little low but they always have some! We've had some issues with our sweet little mutt not fitting into harnesses and they always accepted returns without any fuss. Love them! read more

Ive been shopping around for months trying to find the best prices, brands, and just a nice place to shop for my cats food, litter, toys, and tic solution. I need to restock about every 2 weeks, and I wanted to find a place that I liked since I would be going there frequently. Pet supplies plus trumps all!! The prices are great. I tried shopping at walmart at first, but pet supplies prices are pretty similar to what walmart has to offer. Ive calcuated my bills up from there, and it doesnt seem like I am spending more than I would at Walmart. Plus when you sign up for their discount card thing, you always ending up saving a few cents off of your items. It adds up! The variety is insane! There are so many brands and options to choose from, Ive always found what I was looking for and have been able to try out new things too. At walmart, you always just kind of buy whatever they have, but at pet supplies you have lots of choices. Lastly, and most importantly, I have to mention the staff because they are all really great! Happy, informative, helpful and fun to work with. Theyve helped me figure out everything from how to buy stuff in the most economical way, finding the brand I was looking for, or just help with little odds and ends. They are just such a happy bunch! I sort of look forward to my shopping trips there, haha... Cant say that about any other place! We have multiple pets, so I'm in here fairly often. Huge product selection, just about anything you can think of, and if for some reason they don't have what you're looking for they'll be happy to order it for you. The clerks (at least the ones that I've chatted with) all seem to have lots of pets themselves, so they have first-hand experience that they can pass on to customers. For example, we got very good advice from Suzanne when we purchased our chinchilla last year -- what kind of cage to get (think vertical), what treats he'd probably go for, etc. Prices are reasonable, and there are a lot of sales so you can stock up on your preferred brand of food, cat litter, or whatever when it's on sale and save at least a few dollars. I was very impressed with the woman that waited on me. (It was my first visit to the store and won't be my last). I told her about the wounds that one of my cats had around her eyes and she was very helpful with picking out an e-collar and gave me some other really good suggestions. I have nine cats and I'm out of work, so it was really nice to see a reasonable and good price on Kitty Litter! The girls I spoke with were really pleasant and I left with a smile on my face. Been going to the store for a few years. I find everyone really nice and most of the time they carry what I need at good price. I have a big male hound that believe it or not is a picky eater. Today I went in and they did not have my brand of dog kibble in Beef in the giant bags. I really didn't want to have to get the little bags because it really jacks it up price wise I went and got the manager Dave and he really helped a guy out. He asked me how much I had left at home and I told him that I had unfortunately none at all. He addressed that issue by giving me a discount on a small bag and then assured me it would be in just a couple days and that he would contact me to let me know for sure it was in. I was about to go and just buy it elsewhere but because of the nice gesture and such honorable service I took his offer. Being real and having a nice smile goes along way to keeping customers. read more

This is the WORST store ever, staff is rude and young. You ask them something, they point you to other people, and it's a repeating cycle of circling around the store. Unprofessional, extremely unprofessional. I had a question about my dog, asked the nearest associate, her name was "Amy" she was beyond rude, rolled her eyes, and answered with one word questions. All i know is that I'd rather pay an arm and a leg at Petco, or some other pet store then step foot in "pet supplies ""plus"" again. Only thing "plus" about it, is the staff. read more

I've gone to this store for years because the prices are good, but over the past year, conditions at the store have gone downhill. I visited it yesterday, and the smell almost knocked me out, particularly towards the front of the store, where the small animals are. No wonder... the cages housing guinea pigs and hamsters were filthy, particularly the guinea pigs' cage--there seemed to be more feces than litter! Like black raisins EVERYWHERE. There were dead fish floating in the tanks. One tank, crowded with small fish, was totally clouded. The fish were hanging at the surface trying to breathe. Half the tanks were coated with algae on the glass (even on the fronts) and just generally looked grubby. A number of tanks had no light on. I don't understand why this has happened. Where is the store manager? Does he/she think the conditions are all right, or perhaps isn't around? I came in to buy a betta, but the rack where they're usually kept was mostly empty, and the four or so bettas there had clamped fins and looked apathetic, just laying at the bottoms of their little cups. It made me wonder if the bettas ever fed or if their water is ever changed. I love tropical fish, and it makes me sad to see them treated as if they're just disposable. There are a number of other pet supply places right in the area, and none of them have these problems. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I have been going to this store for several years and I have slowly been watching the decline over the past few visits. I went in there the other day buy cat litter and canned cat food. I got my cat littler and proceeded to the canned food aisle. I noticed that Iams was on sale for 50 cents a can. I asked an employee for help getting 2 sealed cases as I didn't want to pick 48 cans of loose pet food. the employee was friendly and helpful. I went to the register and gave the cashier my card and the Iams rang up at 79 cents a can. when I told her the sign said 50 cents a can she said she would have the manager check. a couple of minutes later the "manager" came up and stated "Yea they aint the ones that's 50 cents they the ones next to em" I proceeded to thank the cashier and left the store. Even the cashier was taken aback by his behavior. I sent an email to the store informing them of what had happened and received a reply back mentioning sorry this happened and mentioning something about a price match guarantee. Very disappointed in my experience at this store and now as I reflect about it even more disappointed in the managements response to my inquiry. read more

pet supplies plus has a good selection (in a new, larger, better lit location), pet-crazy staff, and the prices are much, much lower than the petco down the street. my cat's food costs half as much at pet supplies plus as it does at petco. read more

I just adopted a dog this past week so I've already been twice in a couple days. The pup I adopted was fostered locally and I only knew the brand of food he was eating not the flavor. The manager actually came out to help me and reassure me that as long as I kept the same brand, my pup would probably not have any stomach problems. The next time I actually brought my pup with me and they recognized him from an adoption event they had at one point. They were all so thrilled to see that he had been adopted, they gave him lots of hugs and kisses and even gave him a free pigs ear! The employees have really good energy and dogs (and humans) respond well to that. This is definitely my new go to. read more

I can't say enough about the staff here. I showed up on a rainy eve, completely distraught because my cat had hurt his eye and neither the vet nor any pet supplies store had a funnel or inflatable collar that the little Houdini couldn't get out of. These staff not only spent a good 30 minutes with me trying to figure out how we could "make" something that worked, but they treated me with tenderness when I began to cry out of frustration, tiredness, and love for my poor kitty and seeing how sad and stressed he was.
