This past weekend we bought a pug puppy from a breeder. I knew that our vet would be Dr. Parnam. We have history after he saved my yorkie, Reeces, life. The clinic and vet hospital told me that I was too late. They refused to release him to me. With one call to Dr.Parnam's office I was told to return to the hospital that they were releasing Reeces to our vet's care. Dr.Parnam checked my yorkie from head to toe then administered antibiotics and a steroid. We drove home sobbing in silence. I'm happy to say he walked back in the house after being away from home for four days. Of course we were going to bring our new pup to him for care. Thank you Dr.Parnam! read more

Came in on a Tuesday at 950, was 10th in line. They take all the pups who have dental appointments first to get anesthesia started. & Tell those people to call around 2-4 pm. The vet runs out and quickly asks if anyone has questions and if not he goes in the back and gets the ball rollin. After that they go in order of first come first served. Winston and I were there for shots so after an hour (keep in mind I was there before they opened) they came to ask me if I would like just a quick wellness visit where they would take him to the back, give the appropriate vaccines and then do a physical and bring him back out. I said that's fine (the only issue would be like if you're new to dog owning or have concerns you'd like to talk about with food or kennels or skin etc but I felt ok). Ten minutes later they told me he was healthy and great and gave me the paperwork. We were in and out in a little over an hour. Winston didn't seem traumatized by any means. I heard them tell some people that they could sign in, leave and come back later to catch their place in line. One tech even offered to call to tell the lady when she was next. Everyone in the small waiting room was nice and all of the staff was super pleasant. I'm so grateful. Another quick note- the lady next to me in the waiting room who was there for overdue dental care told me she drove in from Magnolia because the prices were THAT good. That made it feel worth the wait. My 12 week routine vaccinations and physical were $35. Not too shabby. Overall I think it's a great deal for routine stuff and dental work. I think they do a fantastic job and the value is unbeatable. I highly doubt you're getting better care at the higher priced places in town. However, if you have any sort of time crunch this is probably not your best bet. Good luck in your search! [update]: we came again for an infected paw wound and had just as good of an experience. For the $9 visit, we were able to address normal issues including some abrasions from scratching and weight (he's so skinny) but we were also able to discuss the wound and our options for treatment/diagnosis in great detail. Been here numerous times for shots, teeth cleaning, flea meds and even an injury my dog had. People complain about the wait but it doesn't bother me. Best vet in Houston. Dr Pharm is a god sent vet. He has saved one foster dog from heart worms and my own golden retriever from heart worms and hip dysplasia. I don't know why people complain about the wait. If you are paying 9$ for a vet visit and it's first come first serve then it should be expected to wait or you should show up early. That is why the prices are beyond fair and reasonable. Dr Pharm is very educated and will not take advantage of you. He will let you know how it is straight and honest and won't be putting your animal through costly tests or other unnecessary procedures. If you want a honest vet who won't drain your bank account this is the vet for you. My first time there with my cat. He is an older cat and all of the techs and Vet, Dr Anna Parham were wonderful with my baby boy(not a baby). He is very itchy and she found a lot of wax in his ears. They did a total flushing on both his ears. He is feeling amazingly better after this procedure. My only complaint was that I did wait 3 hours to even be seen. The prices are affordable and my cat really liked the staff. They did more checking on his teeth than the last Vet that I took him to. We will go back. read more

I showed up early and was 3rd in line for 2 dentals. I came back when they told me around 3 and literally was the last person to get my dogs back after closing. Both were still sedated and looked dead. They carried them to my car and just plopped them on the ground. After the fact one dog had a huge growth at an extraction site and we are now seeing a different vet to resolve. I do not recommend this place for anyone. My dogs were miserable for 12 hours for a basic cleaning and extraction. Pay a little more so your dogs suffer less. read more

this place is fabulous! the wait is a wait, but that's why they can charge lower prices - the service and care remain very high quality. prices are beyond fair and staff is wonderful at explaining things. you generally don't go back with your animals (i believe exceptions are allowed for extremely anxious dogs, etc.), but that's fine with me! my dogs loved everybody they encountered here! personal opinion/warning if it's your first visit: the one thing i wish was different is the way they run the "first come, first serve" rule seems to assume everybody can afford a car that they can keep cool in while waiting for the doors to open. i can't afford a car and have to count on the kindness of my friends to take me and pick me up. my dogs can't sit outside for two hours in the houston summer heat waiting for them to open, so i can't pull up at 8am like people with cars. not enough to keep me from coming here or giving 5 stars, but just be warned - if you don't have a car and you've been waiting with one other person at the door since 9:15 (again, in the hot heat) with the line slowly growing, when the doors open, a lot of people get out of their car and say "we're first, this is how first come first serve works here." i get why this makes sense to people, but i believe there is a better way that feels fair for everybody, not just car owners. read more

Pros: Really, really cheap price for pretty good service. Very to the point and honest--they definitely are not in this for the money. The examination/consult fee is $9. Vaccination, teeth cleaning and neutering services are about 1/4th of the usual price at comparable vets. The techs and docs take VERY GOOD care of the pups. Cons: Lines are always huge over the weekends and late afternoons/evenings in weekdays (like 2-3 hours of waiting). Service can be a bit rushed. They've also stopped doing spay/neuter and surgeries in general (other than teeth cleaning, which is a steal @ $75). read more

Go here and you'll get two things: Dirt cheap prices and bare bone services! Petcare Express used to be my go to vet for my bulldog but as he's gotten older and developed an actual health issue, I've realized it's time to seek out a better vet. 3 factors lead to this decision. First, no appointments can be made. One Saturday, we waited two full hours for a simple routine checkup. Second, the front desk lady did a bait and switch on us. We found a lost chihuahua with a collar and HSPCA tag. We were thinking about keeping him over the weekend and tracking the owner Monday rather than sending him to animal control. However, after our appointment, we found out that may put our bulldog at risk. Before the checkup, the front desk lady said the checkup would be free but afterward, she charged me for it claiming I didn't buy any products. I didn't care about the money but I was upset she didn't stick to her word. And last, I called and requested a referral for a vet specialist. My bulldog had a health issue that couldn't be treated by them. The answer I got from the front desk lady was "WELL, WE DON'T DO THAT HERE." So that gives me no choice but to seek out a new vet. Maybe go here for routine checkups and shots if you're on a strict budget but do yourself and your pet a favor and seek out a vet that offers better services. read more

This place is totally the WalMart of pet care. Low, low prices. I couldn't make it out to my regular vet and this was my back up. The staff is pretty attentive and for a second round of puppy shots with dewormer to take home for $34. That's on par with my vet and no long drive. Not unhappy with that. Don't try to call this place though. You might think you've called the wrong place. You'll probably get a busy signal. And if you do get through, you might be put on hold for ten minutes. We've been twice when our dog was seriously ill and both times, Dr. Parham was concerned, committed and took such wonderful care of her without charging us a fortune. I brought my 8 week old Shih Tzu puppy Teddy here, on an unplanned visit last week. See, I got Teddy from a breeder who said Teddy had his shots and had been de-wormed, but much to my dismay, my boyfriend saw little white "rice" looking things in his stool-tapeworms. I freaked out, one because I had never seen those repelling things in my life, and the idea that my poor sweet baby had them in his belly made me sick to my stomach. (I guess that made 2 of us.). My mother has a 2 year old Shih Tzu who NEVER ever had worms, or fleas for that matter, and those pesky little things accompanied Teddy home, too. After doing some research on the cause of the worms(fleas), and finding out the condition is very treatable (ok so he wasn't going to die on me?! thank God!) I looked up affordable pet care providers and stumbled upon Pet Care Express. I showed up with my 2 lb baby on hand at around 12pm on Thursday. I filled out the paperwork on him, as everyone was ooohing and aaaahing over my furry bundle of joy. I took a seat beside a family with a humongous German Shepard, and thought to myself how I should have brought Teddy's portable kennel with me- oh well. The wait was about 35 minutes. In that time frame, I was very entertained by the various pets and their owners strolling in and out of the facility. Once Teddy's name was called, I walked in and spoke with a very friendly vet tech. He asked me lots of questions about my little baby, all the while complementing his cuteness. I felt like a proud momma for sure. We came to the conclusion that we were going to start Teddy "over on his shots", because my breeder couldn't be trusted if she said Teddy was de-wormed and had worms! (Grrrrr). I agreed, and then we went over what medications Teddy was going to need for preventative de-worming, and for the tapeworms he already had, and those pesky fleas. The vet walked in and was really nice and friendly. He loved Teddy as well, and was very gentle with him and made sure to answer all of my questions. He gave Teddy his shots and de wormer. He proceeded to give me directions on how to give Teddy his take-home pill and flea medication and sent us on our way. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. He said the front desk ladies would have my stuff ready in a few. After about 10 minutes the ladies called me up to pay, and gave me Teddy's meds. They reminded me to come back for him follow up shots in 2 weeks. The prices, the prices the prices. Can't beat them! I was extremely pleased. And I will definitely be back! This has been my vet of choice for nearly three years - up until this week. I am of the opinion that if you are going to randomly decide to close your business for over a week you, should at least make an effort to notify your clients by posting this information on your website or leaving it on your answering machine - particularly when you're a walk-in only clinic. I have been calling the clinic for four days now trying to figure out the vet's schedule for Christmas week. Each time I reached the voicemail which states the clinic's normal hours of operation. Finally, I cleared my schedule and just drove over there, only to find a note on the door that says: "CLOSED DEC. 24th - JAN 2nd." I had to scramble to try to get an appointment elsewhere and I can't even gain access to my dog's medical records. After all the people I've raved about this place to, I simply expected better. read more

My puppy had a rash on her stomach area that wasn't going away and I felt like she needed to see the vet ASAP. I took her here as my normal vet couldn't get me in for several days. I rushed home from work, grabbed her, and rushed over to the vet. Unfortunately, so did 8 other people. The waiting area was CROWDED as it's not very big to start with (10' x 10'?). I asked the receptionist if any puppies had been in that day with parvo/distemper and she said yes and told me where to sit to avoid those areas. Had I not asked I'm not sure I would have been told, potentially exposing my puppy. This did worry me a bit, but as a pet owner I know I'm responsible for asking these questions. We waited for probably 45 minutes, during which one of the veterinarians stormed out because he was mad that the receptionist had allowed a dog in so close to closing time that needed sutures. He wasn't digging having to do the sutures, apparently. Then the vet tech came and tried to subtly tell the receptionist how mad the vet was, to which she exclaimed very loudly in front of everyone how it's not her fault. Then the vet tech came back again frustrated because the reception area was full of dogs waiting to be seen and they wouldn't be able to leave at closing time. This was all mixed with the angry vet coming in and coming out and apparently no one at the reception area knew what the heck he was doing. This put everyone in the waiting room in an uncomfortable position. We were finally seen by the other veterinarian. She was very nice and took one look at my puppy's stomach and told me what it was and wrote a prescription. She was knowledgeable and professional, and unfortunately also had to deal with the other staff's drama. Bottom line - I would probably go here if I needed to see a vet quickly and the $9 vet visit is great. I wasn't impressed with the professionalism of some of the staff and the reception area can get claustrophobic if there are several people waiting. For a low cost clinic I think this place is great, but I won't be making it my regular vet. read more

I struggle to give this a review...it is as if I need to write 2 separate reviews. I used this place for years. Cheep, but the vets we saw were nice enough and seemed to know what they were doing. Besides that, you get what you pay for. Its small, cramped, sometimes it takes a long time, and at times some of the support staff had been less then friendly. Still, getting all the shots for about $50 a dog is pretty awesome. But my last visit insured I would never visit again. I took my 13 year old (life expectancy 12-13 years), ailing dog in to be euthanized. It was a decision that was a long time coming....something I agonized about for 2 months. It was gut wrenching. But she was in pain all of the time, and the meds stopped working. She was completely incontinent. She couldn't be around the kids because if they touched her wrong she would yelp and nip at them. She didn't enjoy life at all. And her overall health was quickly declining so we knew something else was going on. We signed in and waited about an hour. We were called back by the vet tech. The vet walked in and right away said "she has a couple more years in her, I am not going to put her down". He didn't examine her, ask any questions or give me even slight a bit of respect. He said unkind things like "I am sure you can find a vet to do it somewhere in houston, people will do anything for a buck" as if I was hell bent on killing my dog. Luckily the vet tech was AMAZING and got me into see the other vet in that day, who was very empathetic, sensitive and gave her a good exam...confirmed that our dog really was ill and euthanasia was a reasonable option at the time. Her tech was also very wonderful. They put my dog to sleep in a very loving, calm way. And I left, very sad, but comfortable I had made the right decision. I want to give the rest of the staff a 5 star review. Because they were very apologetic and helpful. But no well-meaning and responsible pet owner should have had to go through what I did. I attempted to locate information on the owner or manager, and was totally unable to do so. They had no protocol for taking complaints. So my only option is to give a poor review to warn future pet owners about this potential problem. read more

We took our 4 dogs today, I used Pet Express in the past , than started at the Corner Vet, because it was closer and Shepard had been torn up for so long , it was just easier to go closer, The CV prices went up and they do not give Heart worm meds unless they do the expensive test. I prefer Pet Express so much more, the staff is friendly, the doctors are so good, Dr. Hare saw us today, he is great, he reminded me of the country docotor that made house calls when we lived out in the country on a farm. Discovered this vet clinic right here on Yelp! It is actually very close to my home so that is what drew me here. I was pleasantly surprised on the low cost for office visit $9 and vaccinations $25 + for a package! What a steal!! I have made this my primary go to vet clinic. Dr. Gordon Parham and staff are super friendly and gentle with my puppy and facility is clean. We come here for vaccinations, expressions, steroid shots, antibiotics, and teeth cleanings. I was even able to call in antibiotics for my pet without having to come in for an office visit. Because my pet has a cough from time to time the vet had already seen her about this issue. That was convenient with my schedule! Thank you! Only drawback is the wait. It can be as quick as 15 min but I have experienced as long as an hour! Bring something to read! Horrible, incredibly rude front desk staff. The whole place is super cramped and dingy. I understand that they offer low cost services -- but this is really a case of you get what you pay for. The staff (including the vets) perform their duties in a very perfunctory manner and there is no passion for animals or concern for the well being -- you are really treated as a number. The most disturbing thing is that they prescribed the wrong dosage of medication to my dog -- almost triple the correct dosage. Thank goodness I got a second opinion from a vet who knows what they're doing. Personally, the low cost and savings are not worth it -- I'd much rather pay a little more and get decent care where you are treated like a person, not a number. read more

We had a stray kitten follow us to our door and we could not help but bring her into our home. I already have a cat and I knew in order to keep her safe I'd need the kitten examined asap and looked for decent/affordable clinics. This place was outstanding. It was recommended to me by two friends who have taken their pets here. I was skeptical because it's a low cost clinic but it seemed clean and all of the staff were friendly. We came in on a Tuesday around 4 and we only waited 5 minutes. The vet and his assistant were so gentle with the kitty and so nice to us. I have two small dachshunds I brought here for a few years for shots and basic vet needs. I bordered on giving them three stars due to my recent telephone interaction this morning. One of my dogs is deathly afraid of storms, so last time I went in the vet (Dr. Parham) told me to call whenever I needed it and he would phone some pills into walgreens for her. I did that this morning, and the lady on the other line rudely told me the vet wasn't in (which he is ALWAYS in), and they were too busy- she couldn't even ask either of the two vets that were there any questions. If you need something quick and easy, they are great. (Shots, simple illness, etc). For awhile they didn't have a surgeon (not sure if they do now or not), so I end up having to go between two different vets depending on what I needed. I love Dr. Parham (they just got a new vet, and I am not a big fan of her...last time I took my dog in she tried to give her a lot of unnecessary medications- I am not a Vet, but I am not going to force pointless pills down my dogs throat). Overall, for the price you really can't beat it. Definitely go early, or you will wait in line for a long time to see someone. If you have something complicated this may not be the best place to go. DON'T try to get anything done over the phone, they are no help whatsoever! In my opinion, Dr. Parham is the best vet in the office--he is always so nice (even though they are always busy). read more

My dog came here again yesterday and was diagnosed with kennel cough. Meds were prescribed, testing was done, 100.00 dollars total. You just can't beat that price period. My dog had diarrhea with a bit of blood in it so I was concerned and brought him in. Signed in and waited 35 minutes to be seen which wasn't my issue at all. To begin, the ladies at the front desk were unprofessional, eating their lunch behind the desk. And their workspace was so terribly unorganized As far as my visit: 1. Vet assistant seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. 2. Vet came in, didn't ask me anything about what was wrong, etc. Just briefly looked at My dogs teeth, butthole and I showed him a rash on his stomach. 3. Vet left for a minute and the assistant stayed and kinda soothed my dog, but it simply sounded like he just started working there or something. I have no idea. I had no confidence in his knowledge at all. Then he left and said he was gonna go see what the vets plan of action was 3. They left for about 2 minutes and then came back and the vet didn't say anything to me. Just started looking through completely unorganized drawers. Then when I asked him what was wrong he said he didn't know but that they'll give him something for the diarrhea and an injection to stop him from itching and scratching the rash. 4. Didn't say what they recommend, no plan of action after I leave like what to give him to eat, drink, etc. This is very half assed establishment. Came here on a Sat morn and knew (from reading Yelp reviews) there was going to be a bit of a wait. Checked in at 11 AM and was #26 in line. There was no room in the waiting room or benches outside, so I waited in my car (right next to the stairs to the side of the building) and was assured that they'd come find me. At 12:30 PM, I call and was told they were on #20. At 2 PM, I called again and they said they were on 34. Ummm, OK? What happened? They said they'd called me and it went straight to voicemail. I came in and was brought to the back right away. Dr. Parham came in and was very friendly and gracious, and answered all my questions very thoroughly and patiently. The vet tech was great as well! It wasn't until I got home and glanced at the receipt that I realized the front desk ladies had entered my number in wrong. I have taken all three of my dogs here several times. I was a big fan of SNAP, but their prices have gone up significantly and the wait is unbearable. That being said, you will have to wait at PetCare Express for the cheap prices. I have found that going on Tuesday or Wednesday around 2pm is the shortest wait. I do wish the place had a bigger waiting area. The doctor was fantastic and spent over 15 minutes with me and the dogs...just for vaccinations. I like that I can get heartworm and flea prevention at this place too. I got both big dogs (over 50 lbs) vaccinated, heartworm, and flea prevention for 6 months for around $200. Don't be shy when you are there. The receptionist will ignore you and other patrons will try to get ahead of you to sign in. Bring lots of treats (we prefer mini marshmellows) to keep the dogs calm and something to read. Parking is difficult, so I would suggest parking on the street behind the clinic and walking. Pet Express is great for pet vaccinations IF you have ALL DAY TO WAIT. They do not take appointments. Do NOT go to Pet Express if you think your pet may have a broken or fractures bone. First of all they do not have an x-ray machine. They failed to tell me that when I checked in. I told the front desk when I check in I believed my dog had a broken or fractured paw. I described what was going on. They told me it was going to be around a 3 hour wait. While I was waiting I called around every vet in the area that takes appointments. They did not have an appointment available until next week so I decided to wait. 3 hours later they were still not ready to see my dog. It took 5 HOURS to get in the waiting room and 30 more to see the doctor for them to tell me she probably has a broken or fracture paw. I would have to take her to another vet because they didn't have an x-ray machine. It cost me $80 and a whole day for them to tell me what I already knew. The exams are cheap ($9) but their medication is not. The doctor is nice as well as the nurse tech assistant but the front desk people need more training. They should know to tell a customer if they think their pet needs x-rays they will not be able to help. read more

Excellent Prices and Top-Notch care. Nothing more to ask for. Only caveat is non-appt service. But it's worth the savings. Just plan when you can drop in. I went on a Tuesday, right at 10am when they opened and was seen within 5 minutes. Dr. Lem was the doctor and she was very helpful and answered all my questions. All of the staff is friendly and you can tell that they are there because they really care about animals. The price menu is located on their website and they have it posted in the office. At the suggestion of a friend, I took one of my rescues there to get checked out and given the necessary vaccines. (They are reasonably priced, BTW -- that's one star) Cliff notes on my rescue: she was tied to an old truck with no shelter, water, food, nothin' - remember this as you continue to read.... She was emaciated and had some tummy issues, so the vet determined to wait a couple of weeks before she got her shots. She got a thorough exam. He was very nice and gentle with her. (That's the 2nd star). A couple of weeks go by, we're giving her the necessary TLC to fatten up and get healthy, so I take her back. The same vet looks her over and notices that she's gained a lot of weight. Her tummy looks swollen, he feels around for a while and tells me she's doing well and is healthy enough to get her shots. Cool! All is well in the universe and we're getting the word out on this cutie available for adoption...then a week and a half - 2 weeks go by and um...her belly is getting really big. (ruh roh). I take her to my regular, and more expensive vet, and it turns out she was preggers...with EIGHT PUPPIES!! Tell me, how can a vet notice a really-swollen belly, knowing the dog's back story, feel around for ages and not know what he's feeling? There were eight of them bad boys in there.
