Unless a dog or cat is finicky, or has been prescribed a specific diet by a veterinarian, this reviewer suggests that pet parents do some research by carefully examining the sales offerings for pet food at local grocery stores and/or examine website options before buying from this Petco. The fish department sells everything an aquarium enthusiast would need for his/her hobby - various sizes of tanks, gravel, filtration supplies/systems, fish medications, decorations, chemicals and fish food. Most of the tropical fish sold are fresh water. There is a limited selection of salt water fish. A plecostomus my husband and I purchased from this Petco, in 2012, has grown and thrived. The employees assigned to the fish department have been eager to assist my husband and I in the selection of fish and fish supplies. There is also an orphan/quarantine tank at this shop. Unwanted tropical fish, that are donated by customers, live in this tank. Customers attracted to the idea of getting free fish acquire them from this aquarium. This reviewer's husband was able to acquire two healthy blue gouramis for our tank at home. Fish enthusiasts, willing to make the effort to fetch fish from this orphan/quarantine tank, need to be knowledgeable regarding the types of fresh water tropical fish. Several years ago, my husband and I retrieved what we were told were five gouramis. It wasn't until our betta and plecostomus were killed that we found out we had five combative cichlids in the tank. In closing, buyer beware. This pet shop gets this reviewer's two-star rating. Don't buy a betta from this Petco. The bettas offered for sale at this Petco seem to be listless. Sad to say, it is not unusual to go to the betta display and see dead ones laying in the bottom of their plastic containers. read more

This place is very shady looking. It doesn't even look open, because their Petco sign lights aren't functional. On top of that, it's dirty and the animals don't look to be well cared for. Chameleons are dark brown. This is due to stress and possibly other health issues. They should be green. The birds look incredibly bored being cooped up in a tiny space with barely anything to occupy them, pacing back and fourth, and plucking their feathers. Multiple dead Beta fish. I can't believe the lack of carelessness by employees. I hope to see this place close. read more

Not the best experience, showing up 30min before they close only to find out their aquatics department unexpectedly closed an hour before that ...when asked if anyone could still help my lil girl pick out two fish for her tank the worker could have said no and we would have understood however they said yes but huffed and puffed through the entire five minute fish buy. We came in for some turtle food. They got what we usually get and like. There wasn't any associates to help us on the floor to direct us but we eventually found it following the signs. "Fish" area is very dirty and some of the parts from the aquarium was falling an apart which made it unsafe for my little toddler to look at it. Cashier as friendly and efficient. read more

Petco was great we Adopted a Huskie named Stella there who was a rescue and she was a great new addition to our family. The people at petco we're great. I recently took her in to get groomed and Joe was great he told me all about Huskies since I've only had boxers and was well versed about huskies. He gave her a great grooming and de shedding and also made her smell great. He even walked her out to the car for us. It was a great experience and I will be going back again soon. read more

I have been quite happy with this Petco for more than six years as well as with their groomers. However, I had an awful experience this past Saturday. My dog was being groomed by Alvin (whom we love, this is not a complaint about him). After more than three hours, I hadn't been called. Usually I'm called between 1.5 and 2 hours. I tried calling, no one answered. I went to the store, and the grooming area appeared slammed. I asked for my dog. A manager whom I'd never seen before said that they had just finished with him. (He also snapped at me for knocking on the window, but ok, I was in the wrong.) I was first given my paperwork, I paid, I went back to area. They brought out wrong dog albeit same breed and similar coloring. I said this wasn't right dog. There was some hemming and hawing and then manager admitted that they had mixed up paper work on several dogs. (But I had to bring up wrong dog before they brought up this? They just rolled the dice and handed me a dog?) They brought out another dog. Also wrong. Then it was like, "well that dog is silver, that dog has been groomed etc." This dog wasn't answering to name, I knew he wasn't mine. Then, after pushing back again, I asked if there were any other dogs. Yes, but not mine. I insisted that they bring him out...and yes, it was my dog. I HAD TO PUSH TO GET HIM TO BRING OUT THIS DOG. I was given discounts (which I will never use) and an apology but I was stunned. Another woman in the waiting room was also stunned and when manager went off for discounts, she became emotional and said, "he was pushing wrong dog on you, the dog wasn't answering to his name, and you had to push hard to get him to bring out your dog." When manager came back, he was apologetic but also, "you can stop crying." The groomer (again whom I like and who did a good job) appeared to be triple booked, exhausted, and that's probably why paperwork got mixed up. Not ideal but I get it. Also the triple booking not his fault. It's the management of the mix-up that upset me. Yes, it was a freak coincidence that three similar dogs were there together and the paperwork got messed up. But if the manager had come out and began with, "there's been a mix up on paperwork, we're sorry, we want to be 100% sure, so can you look at all the dogs as they look similar." Instead, I was just handed wrong dog, and the mix-up only surfaced when I started pushing. I have been to this groomer many, many times. Alas, never again. The owner of my dog's dog walking company is warning her customers about this situation and store. I called the store today to avoid posting, and see if I could speak to a manager. I tried six times. Each time, I was told to press "3" or wait for customer service. I pressed 3, I was disconnected. I simply waited, I was disconnected. Enough. Again - the groomer was his usual nice, kind, conscientious self. He is not the focus of my complaint. read more

I came here Sunday afternoon excited to finally get my dog groomed. The gentleman who groomed my dog was very sweet, but the cut left my dogs head looking too big and skinny body, I got charged for up close scissor trim on his face and he barely touched his face at all. And then later in the night my poor dog had bright red bumps all over him. I will be contacting corporate. I spent $70 for a very subpar job and my dog was left uncomfortable. Joe was great. We rescued Stella a Huskie and I have only had boxers that never required any real grooming and I was in for a surprise when we adopted her. I took Stella into Percocet for a grooming appointment and Joe explained how often they need to be brushed and bathed and she came out looking and smelling great. He even helped bring her out to our car since I recently broke my leg this was a. Great relief. I definitely will be going back to maintain her and my boys love the store and love seeing all the different animals there. read more

Just had my Havanese groomed by Rosie. She listened to what I wanted and his cut was perfect. Did an excellent job in grooming and bathing. So glad I found her, very reasonable and good. Also used Mike for his training and loved his techniques and how fast my pup learned, now that he is 1 year old, I will continue to have Mike train. Very impressed with this Petco. read more

Terrible customer service. I had a 5:30 appointment today which was great because my son has soccer practice at 6:15. I was going to drop the dog off, get a bite to eat, and head to practice. I got there at 5:30, but no one was in the grooming area. They paged someone, they called someone, but still no one came. Finally they told me the groomer never even comes in until 6:00. WTF? They even saw my apt. In the computer. I couldn't bring the dog with me so I had to drive her home in rush hour to be late to practice. No dinner and no grooming. What an f-ing waste of my time! For the fish section. Today after waiting several minutes for service went and asked a cashier. She paged someone. Five minutes later a young couple did the same thing. Five more minutes I informed the cashier that no one showed up and I left. The time before the fish were mis-marked so it took a few minutes of an employees and my time to walk back and forth and get the right item number and price. They had a bad selection of fish and they weren't labeled in any way that I could tell what was what. I love this store the employees have always been extremely nice. When I went to buy a hamster an employee cleaning the cages asked me what kind of hamster I was looking for and I told him I had seem a hamster I thought was beautiful but she was not there anymore and he was so nice he even went to the back to check if she was maybe there or there was a similar one back there. Another time I had ordered online and came before they had emailed me it was ready and they were so nice about it and went to get my order. This Petco is very small compared to the Petsmart at Springfield mall, but they have a wide selection of natural foods for dogs and cats, including Wellness brand, which is top of the line. They also have natural treats and baked goods for doggies, which is great. Grooming has been pretty bad since the last groomers left. The people running it are unprofessional, and disorganized. I came in on Thursday to buy food, and schedule an appointment. The lady told me nothing was available until 2 weeks from now. I go to my car after buying the food and check online and there's an appointment available Saturday at 2:45...how she didn't see this, I'm not sure. So I book it for Saturday and arrive a few minutes late, and I'm told that she can't help me because the store closes in an hour, and I'm a few minutes late. I asked if leaving off teeth brushing and nail trimming would make up for the few minutes that I was late, and she said no it wouldn't save any time. I really had an issue with this response but I didn't want to raise a problem with the young lady. I've had other minor issues since the last groomer left but this is the first time I chose to write a review, one too many issues now. Won't be coming back here until I see some new faces in the grooming salon. read more

This petco is smaller than the petsmarts on Rt 1 but it has a better selection of foods, treats and accessories. They have the dog food that you normally have to go to smaller pet boutique stores for, but for a cheaper cost. this is great for me because my dog is allegic to gluten. the staff is also really friendly and interact with my dogs whenever we stop by. read more

I would NOT recommend their grooming salon. The lady her name Rosie was very unpleasant when I came in just because I showed in early she said she wont do the grooming until the appointment time which is fine she didnt have to make a big deal. The lady was scared of my little dog 11 lb shih tzu. She said she won't do her grooming because my dog tried to back up when she was going to put the leash on. My dog pee and back up very scared of her. She said she would try one more time without getting a bite to put a leash on her but if my dog pee she won't do it because my dog might keep peing on her floors. If this is their policy to not take anxious/scared dogs they should at least let you know once they are making an appointment for a new dog so they don't make people waste their time because I could have taken my dog to another groomer who is PROFESSIONAL and PETFRIENDLY... Which I am thankful I found a same day appointment at the Springfield petsmart whom didn't make a big deal about my little dog being scared. This people at petsmart don't know what they're doing. DO NOT GO HERE! Today I walked into this location to buy fish for my cichlid tank. Upon entering I walked to the fish section and asked a question to what appeared to be the sales women for that department. I was met with an "eye roll ", snide remark regarding temperament of the fish which was not the questions and an "Im helping someone". Finally when I got an answer to the question it was as if this woman thought she was doing me a favor! What a turn off! I did not want to spend a cent there but someone needed to be held accountable. This review applies to the management of the grooming department only, although I don't know whether it is store management or grooming department management. (Regarding employees, I have not had any issues.) We used to get our cat groomed here and they had a great female employee whose name I don't remember who was wonderful with our less than well mannered long hair cat. We followed the employee to this location from another store, but now I understand the employee is no longer there. Given how difficult it is to find a great cat groomer anywhere, much less in this dog-dominated area, much less one who really looks out for the cats (dog owners have it made; everybody and their brother knows a good dog groomer), I would think Petco could cut me a break and give me last known contact information for the employee. It's not like Petco would lose any grooming business from me--they don't have anyone who grooms cats now and they could not tell me when they would! The refusal to give me the employee's last known contact information makes me wonder whether I still want to shop here for all my other supplies. (And for those wondering, no, it it is not against the law for them to tell me.) P.S. I lived close to this location for six months before I realized that it was actually open. This Petco does not look like a vibrant place of commerce; the building and lot are not well-kept and the store looks out of business compared to the Target in the next lot. Unlike Target, Petco consistently stocks the staples my kitty needs and I've even happened upon a few items that I was unaware of but was happy to have found...BUT I ALWAYS find items on my own. I stop by once a week and have never been offered assistance. Yet, when I am paying for my purchases the clerk never fails to ask if I will donate money to animals in need. I often overhear customers respond, "This was/is an animal in need." It is tiresome to get asked for more from this Petco that offers so little. Those that live close by will finish their errands quicker if they can deal with minimalist service and occasionally don't mind moving parking spots after opening their door to find discarded slushies or trash afoot. read more

I can't tell you the number of times that I have listened to personal conversions between employees while waiting to check out. If you voice a complaint the employees do not even respond. 1 star rating is due to lack of professionalism from their employees. When I walk into a Petco with my children,I expect an environment where they should be seeing animals and products,not two employees groping each other while no one is looking. My kids and I recently had gone in and saw a blondish haired younger male groping a short dirty blonde haired female while on the clock. Being very handsy and saying sexual innuendos to each other as my kids stood there and watched such an act! I am not pleased with having to have my kids see this in a pet store! My sis and I recently ( about a month ago) adopted a puppy through the LCAR satellite station and the Petco. We need all the necessary supplies for the Ohio which means we needed lots of help. Sam and Bryker were amazing. Not only were they knowledgeable, they were super patient and kind. We had to have consumed T least thirty minutes of their time as they were closing. I usually like this petco, I adopted a cat and two ferrets from them in the past. But today I was shocked by their customer service. I went in to get some fish and no one was to be found in the fish department, I went looking for anyone who even worked there and finally I found a guy and asked if they had someone in the fish department. Another employee came by and told the guy he had to get my fish so he came reluctantly. After awhile he got my fish and I had some questions so I began to ask and he told me he wasn't a fish specialist. Then I just politely asked "Is there a fish specialist around?" and then guy answered "No he's not around." and started to snicker. I was pissed by his attitude so I said fine and went about getting the fish I already had. He couldn't figure out how to close the bag and left no air for the fish. (I worked at a pet store before if you get fish without enough air they will die its supposed to be 75% air 25%water) When I was at the cash register the same guy wouldn't help me at all, I had my dog with me so I was having a bit of trouble. I asked for a bag multiple times and finally got one. The service sucked and he made me feel like he was doing me a favor by helping me. The dog trainer is great, I always appreciate his attitude and usually the customer service is decent. This man really made me feel like shit and didn't help me in the least.
