I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment for grooming and received a text at 12:35 p.m. that the time was pushed back to 1:00 p.m. So, not only were they running behind; but they weren't providing enough notice to avoid arriving too early. No big deal, but when I picked up the dog not only was it super quick but the job was very subpar. The groomer buzzed a huge gash into her back, then tried to gaslight me by telling me she had alopecia. I didn't know groomers were also veterinarians, but I wasn't going for it. I stopped in here the day before Christmas Eve, and the place was packed! I was there for freshwater aquarium items and was pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of fish, plants, and decor that they offered. On my second visit, I was starting a new and larger aquarium for a betta sorority. The associates helped me pick out a complete setup - tank, stand, decor, plants, and the right water conditioner. I had an appointment for my aussiedoodle for a bath because he was already cut pretty low... apparently he had matting around his ears . They would not give him a bath because his matting could cause "decreased blood flow and a hematoma". As a medical professional I know this is not the case . I walked up there with my children so we were really disappointed that he couldn't be cleaned.He was sick the prior week and really needed a bath. I said fine do the cut too she said I would have to reschedule for another day ! Total waste of time . On 8/7/22, my pet had a grooming appointment at your Beachwood location. He was dropped off at 3pm to groomer JJ. She told me it maybe a couple of hours and we confirmed my phone number. I never received a call. Therefore, at 6:40 pm I headed to the store. I arrived about 10 minutes before they closed and no one was in the grooming department. All the lights were off but the door was open so I went inside. I stood there waiting for several minutes thinking maybe they're in the back. Several minutes later a guy walked in and asked if he could help me. I asked for JJ and told him I was there to pick up my dog because no one called me. He goes in the back room turns on a light then brings my dog out. My little baby was shaking and looked EXTREMELY FRIGHTENED.  OBVIOUSLY sitting in a DARK room ALONE for WHO KNOWS HOW LONG. He was there for FOUR HOURS and his hair was not even half cut. He smelled awful. I asked the guy why he was left alone and no one called me. I asked to speak with the manager. The cashier called him 4 times before he even arrived.  I waited nearly 10 minutes before an extremely DISMISSIVE IDIOT came out to speak with me. I explained the situation and asked him why I was not contacted. Also why was he left alone for God knows how long. He's exactly words to me was "I was told you were called". Advised clearly, I was not called as I stated. They have no paperwork nor did they have any idea who I was. Again, why was he there for 4 hours, dirty, hair half cut, and LEFT IN A DARK ROOM ALONE. He told me let me call JJ and get her side of the story. AT THIS POINT I COULD NOT BE MORE PISSED OFF. #1 This guy is a complete idiot with no customer service skills. #2 If I arrived 10 minutes later or not at all my dog would've been left in a DARK ROOM ALL NIGHT. Did my dog have water? Did anyone even care that he's a living breathing being??? Clearly this is how Petco treats it's customers and they're family members. I asked for his name and the corporate phone number. The manager did not even have the decency to bring me the corporate phone number.  He had the cashier bring me a post it with a corporate number and his name which was ineligible. Then he proceeded to check out  customers. Also requested a phone call from the store manager or the manager of the grooming salon.  It is now Monday evening and still no phone call.  I'm demanding a phone call from your corporate office immediately this is ridiculous. read more

I would give a negative star if I could! I took my dog there for grooming twice and each time I had to get a refund. The first time the cut was so uneven and completely butchered the manager was appalled at it and fixed the cut. This last time the groomer completely butchered my dogs tail and left bald spots throughout. When I called to complain the manager Jess told me to take my dog somewhere else for future service..... Just took our dog to the PetCo on Chagrin for grooming and I'm seriously concerned that the store is so understaffed that they might not be able to properly care for their animals. There's a cage full of at least 20 parakeets huddled together for warmth, with birdcrap all over and no clean water. The story is full of shipping boxes, some still unpacked, others laying open. The shelves are a mess. I saw a woman who I believe was the manager leaning against a ferret cage with her head in her hands. I understood that labor is in extreme short supply right now but this seems bad. Maybe they need to shut the doors for a bit. Just concerned about the animals. read more

Very sad... went just a little check on the animals and to look around. Put one step in and you could smell the kitty littles not being cleaned for a long time! It was awful. Went to check on the cats, as they are right at the entrance (not sure it is actually the best just next to the doors openings all the times), and they looked so sad. And the smell was totally explained by the confiions of the cages. Poor cats. Went to check the other animals, furets especially. Same observation, very dirty cages... The birds and fishes looked ok. I could've probably walked out with a bunch of stuff. Selection is decent, not great. Way overpriced. The young man at the counter had athletic shorts and a t-shirt on and couldn't count money nor give the change correctly. He needed some help. If you have a dog, your in luck. Their focus is on dogs and dog toys and fish. They also have cages for rabbits and guinea pigs. Cats can pretty much go to hell. Your other option is Petsmart on Cedar. No better. Cash and credit. Six years ago, I adopted an old lady schnauzer from the Sanctuary for Senior Dogs. Lovely, feisty gal who loved me but loved food more, she came to work with me every day for 5 1/2 years. Her no-shedding quality was great, but I did not have the skill to groom her properly; she recoiled as if in pain when I trimmed her nails (heck, the cat lets me trim his) and I had no clue as to how to pluck the hair from inside her ears. A friend recommended Petco, and Dawne groomed Mo dog all those years - a number of times, drivers would stop, roll down a window, and tell me what a lovely pooch she was. She died last year, and the outpouring of love from clients was a comforting surprise. Six or seven months later, after checking Petfinder once in a while, a photo of a schnauzer found as a stray caught my eye. A rescue in Toledo had scooped him from the jaws of a high-kill shelter. We took Waldo home and gave him weeks to decompress; little by little, his trembling lessened, he found the courage to bark (but not the courage to chase our cat!), and is becoming the gentle boy who loves when children come into the office. Dawne no longer works at Petco, so I tried a different grooming salon; I had met and talked with one of their groomers at a work event, and she seemed professional and caring. When I called to make the appointment, I asked for this particular groomer; when Waldo and I arrived, she was not there, but the woman who greeted me told me that she was the owner of the business, reviewed what she would be doing for Waldo, and gave me a time to come pick him up. When I returned, I opened the shop door to some of the loudest music I have ever heard, so loud that no one realized I had come in. The shop owner finally came out, explained that it would be about half an hour longer, and I ran an errand before going back to pick up my pooch. The owner had not told me that she does not take credit cards, so it was fortunate that I happened to have my checkbook with me that day. Few dogs actually enjoy going to the groomer, but as the owner told me that they had to hold Waldo down to trim his nails, I decided that this was not our new groomer. The cost was more than I had ever paid at Petco, and Waldo's coat was not cut as it should have been. More weeks for Waldo to decompress, during which we made a couple of trips to Petco for toys - he has come further out of his shell, and is beginning to play occasionally. One of the groomers waved at me one day, and I stepped into the salon to say hi, and ask if she (Jessie) had time to trim Waldo's nails, warning her that the first groomer had found it necessary to have someone hold him down. At that, Jessie frowned, and assured me that it would only take a few minutes; I took the bill to the cashier, paid for the service, and when I turned around to head to the toy aisle, Jessie was signaling to me that she was done, and Waldo would like to waltz down the toy aisle with me. No drama. Today, it was time for a full grooming, and yes, Waldo shivered as Jessie guided him through the door. I returned a couple of hours later to pick him up, and Waldo looked amazing! He smells clean, the haircut is sharp, and his coat is so smooth and silky (the wiry feeling of his hair has lessened a bit as I've fed him well and brushed him these past four months, but this is beyond what I thought he could have). Jessie was wonderful with him; she did tell me that he growled when she trimmed his front nails this time, but that he was shrinking back, not being aggressive, and she worked quickly for him, and that the plucking of the ear hair was no big deal at all. Jessie worked wonders for Waldo, and Jessie is our groomer now. Waldo was adorable, and Jessie ratcheted him up to sharp, schnazzy schnauzer (say that three times fast). Jessie rocks. read more

Placed an order online to pickup in store, and then after saying available for pickup it wouldn't give me the option so I had to request it be shipped. Then the next day, I find out that only 2 of the prescription requests were sent and not the 3rd. I spent 20 minutes on hold and then I was told I had to place the order again. The Beachwood store may be as good as it gets with this obnoxious pet retailer. It's great that this store hosts rescue/foster pets for adoption, but Petco corporate is basically inept/bad/lousy, based on my very unhappy experience with the website and "customer service" phone line. To call it a help line is like Orwell's "1984" -- they do the opposite of help. I'm actually very disappointed. My dog was out of food. I was traveling and had work till 6 and went straight to my traveling plans and needed to get my dog food right when they opened since it's on the way to work. I get in maybe 20 minutes after they open and not a single person came to help. Then, when someone finally saw me, they grunted and turned around and turned back for me to hear and said "people are so annoying when they come in early." Then turned again to another employee and said "go help that customer." and walked away. It is now July. I saw cans of cat food with expiration dates of January. When I asked about this I was told, "We'll get to it...It's not my job. If you're unhappy you can talk to the manager." So I spoke to the manager who started giving an excuse why it was still out. ("That brand doesn't move fast"). She said she was busy with customers and she couldn't take care of it now. I asked if she would watch what people are buying (check expiration dates in the meantime) and she scrunched up her face as if I was annoying her. The employees were nice and helpful. They'll help set you up for the dog wash, or carry your large food bag out to the car. Considering I just moved across country, it is nice to have a stable business like this to get the items I need from. Went to wash my dogs today - it's a mere $10/dog for washing. It includes shampoo, conditioner, dryer, and towels. My dogs hated the ramp leading up to the washing bin. Two very sweet and loving kitties looking for homes per the local humane society. Because they're amidst all the chaos of a store they appeared quite affectionate and well-adjusted. There are ferrets for sale and other small furry things. Even though Petco across the board has decent prices, this store location is always unorganized, messy, and the shelves look like a tornado went through them. My five star groomer is Courtney. She has been doing and amazing job with our dog Bella. Bella is a rescue from California that was given to me by my daughter. Bella has some issues with getting close to her face and trimming her paws. So to remedy this we like to take her to the same groomer and it's less stressful for Bella. Courtney is always on time and before she starts the grooming process she ask questions. If you want someone who cares and is dependable Courtney is the best!! read more

Prices are consistently one to two dollars higher than neighboring competitors (dog food & treats, cat litter, cat food). I've found this to be especially gutting in the specialty brands / "top shelf" foods. Be ready to pay top dollar for your pet. Jessie at the Petco on Chagrin in Beachwood is absolutely fabulous. She loves my dogs and treats them like they are her own. She always has a smile. My dogs adore her. My 4 year old dog hates being groomed and I use to have someone come to my house because it was too stressful in a salon. After the first time with Jessie he cannot wait to go back! This last time I took both my dogs at the same time -aussie mix and golden mix which is not an easy task and she was done with both of them within 2 1/2 hours. Great place. We've all been to Pet Stores that are just impossible to stay inside of because of the smell, but this one is great. Even with the size of the store, they manage to keep everything really clean. Everyone that works there is really nice. They really know what they're talking about and I haven't brought in a question that they couldn't answer. We bought a whole amphibian setup and all the animals we bought there are super healthy and doing awesome. Their crickets are great and they send someone right away to get it. Not sure why the other reviewer had such a bad experience. Its a retail store, so you might as well expect the pricing, but the service, well, the first day I was bringing my dog home, she didn't have a collar, so even before taking her home I stopped by at Petco. I really didn't expect her to bolt like she did (not right away, she wandered around for 5 minutes til she found a place to pee).. When I couldn't get her back the store personnel came out practically immediately and spent 20 minutes helping me to get her back, teaching me a few tricks.. I have never found the service to be poor otherwise, people at the store are very helpful, and Peter, the dog trainer, has been great in helping me learn to train Dori. Too bad he's moving out of town! read more

I signed up for training here because we looked around the area and at $100-$150/hr for lessons, the 12 sessions for $230 was the best deal around. Better than a good deal, the training was FANTASTIC. We were paired with Lydia and the transformation in my dog and in the other dogs in the class was incredible. I worked in an animal shelter many years ago, and have seen a lot of people work with animals, she was really a gifted trainer and was well trained and it showed. This is the best deal in the area. They are flexible and convenient, I can't say enough great things! read more

I love this Petco. I shop here for my bunny rabbits needs. The staff are usually very friendly and care about the animals there. I like to go visit the new kitten arrivals that come through the humane society, which makes me happy they are coming from a pet rescue. The customer service is superb. The associate that helped me find what I needed last time I was there was very friendly and knew a lot about dog food. I never realized there was so much to know. Sometimes it is hard to track down someone to help you but if you tell the cashier you need help they usually have somebody there pretty quickly. This is a rating in regards to their customer service. The store manager, Shawn (sp?) was so polite and friendly while helping with an issue. It made me feel as though the situation I had was heard and validated, and he went out of his way to promptly assist me. I don't normally write reviews. I actually created this account just to rebuttal another user's poor review. I opened this up in my Yelp app to get directions, and I happened to notice a reviewer bashing Emily. The last time I was in this store, I came with my grandmother who has Alzheimer's. I had no idea what she was looking for when she asked me to take her. Some kind of supplement for her cat. The first person I asked for help couldn't understand what my grandmother wanted either. So I asked for the manager. Emily came over to help us, and not only was she patient enough to get through my grandma's indecipherable babble, she also knew exactly what my grandma wanted and was beyond kind to her. I actually took the time to write a letter to the store manager because I was so surprised and impressed with Emily. I'm unsure what the others reviewers problems were but I can't complain.
