I prefer this Petco location over the PetSmart across the street, mainly because I hate dealing with the crowded Wal-Mart plaza. Petco is in a less-busy plaza, so parking is never a problem and pedestrian foot traffic is minimal. I used to feed my cats Eukanuba, but when there was a nationwide Eukanuba shortage (I'm still baffled over that one...), a helpful Petco employee recommended another brand which costs roughly the same and supposedly has less filler. My cats seemed to like it well enough, and their fur is still shiny and healthy, so I'm happy with it. This store is extremely hit or miss as far as customer service is concerned. I prefer Petco over PetSmart since I've been coming into this location since I was a child. Since I became a fish owner 3 months ago I've realized how hard it is to find good customer service. There is a gentleman who works in the aquatics area who seems to be very knowledgeable. If he isn't there/available good luck because you won't find anyone else willing or able to assist you. I went in today to ask some questions about my aquarium heater and whether or not it's working properly and not a single soul asked me if I had any questions or if I needed help. After about 20 minutes I decided to leave. Having employees avoid eye contact with me put me in a sour mood and I'm not going to beg someone to do their job and assist me. I'm going to switch things up and visit another Petco location and if I receive similar customer service then I'm going to give PetSmart a shot. I understand we're in the middle of a pandemic but that's no excuse for giving someone a bad customer experience. I should know, I work in specialty retail. read more

Amazing staff, the puppy play time was so fun to take my new puppy to. It was supervised and even though the dogs were having a wild and crazy time the staff member watching was attentive and kept things under control. I plan on going back every Saturday for the puppy play. Also I went back b/c my dog was itching, the staff member helped and checked my dog thoroughly for fleas and instead of telling me I should get some crazy expensive flea stuff he said he didn't see any fleas and recommends a new brand of food. Petco's employees are way sweeter and more knowledgeable than Petsmart. My puppy, Teddy, gets all of her doggie needs here. She even came in for a flea bath. The ladies that gave her a bath were so kind to my dog. She came out looking like a million bucks. My fam and I signed her up for puppy training classes. We took her to 2 already, we have 4 more left. Our trainer, Nicki, is a total sweetheart. She's amazing with dogs, helpful, friendly, informative, patient, etc. We taught our pup to come, sit, lay down in 2 sessions. I'm excited to teach her more tricks! Such as... Take the trash out. Jk. I called to make a grooming appt, as we don't come here they verified that I didn't have an acct. to ensure my pup is fully vaccinated. Fair. We show up (my pups eyes are watery due to his lower lashes folding in.) They turned us away because "for the safety of medical reasons" MAYBE ASK THAT WHILE ON THE PHONE WHEN MAKING AN APPT. It is not the newest and best Petco around, but it has all your needs from grooming to specialized food. I have to admit, I have never taken my dog to be groomed here, so I can't speak to that. I can say that today my trip was looking for better non-grain pet food for my dog who has food allergies (yesh, I know). I had an employee taker her time to talk with me and gave me her knowledge on the different foods, but I had some specific questions, so she went an food their "food expert" rather than bs me, which I appreciated. It was great experience and I'll come back again. I do really appreciate that this location has pet adoptions at least once a month. In addition, a husky rescue bus comes by during that time; which having married into a family who had a wonderful husky, I'm glad there people out there taking care of that amazing breed. read more

I frequent this Petco location for both food and grooming. The store seems clean and the people are friendly. I appreciate the fact that they allow cats to remain in the store for adoption. They don't always have a great selection of the specialized food that I need for my dog, in the qualities that I would like, but I do appreciate the fact that they carry the Wellness Brand of dog food and cat food. I appreciate the fact that the grooming department is kind and patient at dealing with my rescued dog's quirks. read more

The people working at this Petco are super nice. They're always helpful and very nice to my dog when we come in. You could tell that they genuinely like animals. They have a good selection of holistic dog food and they are always in stock. I would suggest that if you're in the market to buy some dog chew toys and your dog goes through them like there's no tomorrow, you might want to consider getting them online. It's a little bit ridiculous to be paying about $10 for a stuffed toy that my dog would demolish in about an hour or so (and this goes for any Petsmart so not just a Petco thing) Other than that, I love this Petco and so does my dog. She loves coming here with me and getting treats from the workers at the check out counter. =) read more

He's verrrrry timid and scared of all things that aren't familiar to him. I attempted to drop him off and spoke with both Rachel and melanie. I did advise them of his behavior. They were incredibly caring and sweet to him. He unfortunately was too scared to be left alone with them, so wasn't able to give him one, but they still took the time to love on him and melanie even walked around the store with me for a while pointing out alternatives until I get him more accustomed/comfortable with water. She advised of deodorizing wipes and dry shampoos. She also took the time to help me shop for a new collar, leash, and harness for him. She even placed the harness on him herself all while speaking so sweet to him. I truly appreciate the kindness they showed towards him, everyone has a stereotype against pitbulls and I am so glad they didn't show an ounce of that toward him. I came in today wanting to buy a hamster for my son. We had gone across the street to PetSmart and we had talked to them about the idea of a hamster and they just asked which one we wanted and were ready to sell it to us but we wanted to come here too and see what you guys had. I have never had a hamster before and didn't really have much information about them. Mayra came to help us and when we told her we wanted the hamster she gave us information about the hamster and we realized it wouldn't be the best fit pet for out family. My son is Autistic and I wanted a pet he would be able to hold and not be scared off. Mayra really listen to our needs and suggested a guinea pig as they are a lot calmer and my son would be able to hold it. She is very knowledgeable and helped us get all the items we needed for the guinea pig. I am so glad we came here because I would have gone home with a hamster from PetSmart and would have regretted the decision. I've brought my pitbull here many times. I'm very irritated by the lady that accused a cashier of discriminating against pits. My pit gets his nails his shots his food toys and anything else he needs from this petco. They are very pit friendly. The cashier in question I believe I know... And I doubt she said it was a bad pit probably just asked why it was a muzzled dog. (Btw it's not a typical form of training for a house dog, which is what petco mostly caters to). Dear middle-aged, long blonde haired, female who checked me out today at the Brea Petco (9/5/14) at about 11:25am, You are extremely rude. Here is how the conversation went: Clerk: (Looks over her counter at my dog [a pitbull]) "Oh, is she is a bad dog?" "Is that why she is wearing that muzzle" Me: "No, she is not a bad dog." "She was trained with this collar so that she doesn't pull me when we are walking." [I think to myself. Ummm... you work at Petco! You should know what a gentle leader is and that it is NOT a muzzle.... she can still eat, drink, and bite is she wanted to with the gentle leader on.] Clerk: "There are some dog treats here if you want to giver her one." Me: "She doesn't really like those kinds of treats, but we can try anyways." (My dog takes the treat and spits it out on the floor.) [I was thinking to myself... my dog doesn't eat those disgusting, nasty, bad for your dog's health, old cheap treats.] Clerk: (Pretending to talk for my dog) "Well mom, maybe if you take this DAMN muzzle off of me, then maybe I can eat the treat." She was wandering aimlessly on the streets and was picked up by animal control. She was in the shelter for an extremely long time. She looked as though she has just finished having a litter of puppies probably by some jerk offs who breed on the streets and sell to dog-fighters. She is an extremely friendly and loyal pitbull. I work in the animal field and I rescue many pets who need homes and who need health care. I love my animals as though they were my children. I am so offended by this lady and by the company who would hire this kind of judging and rude individual. First and last time at this particular location. Made an appointment to get our dog a hair cut and wash. He is 10 and has been going to the Orange location his whole life for haircuts. We recently moved and figured we'd come to this location since it's closer. Made an appointment where they have all of his information on record and everything was good to go. When my husband arrived with our dog the groomer who was supposed to take him first said they don't do cuts on his breed(mini Australian Shepherd.) Then said that she didn't feel comfortable grooming him because he had too much hair?! And proceeded to ask why we wanted this done? THEN said we can make an appointment and come back for another groomer who could do his cut. So which is it? Do you cut long haired dogs or not?! Kind of strange considering the same company has been doing it for years. A waste of time and super unprofessional to not let us know this in advance at the time we made the appointment. When I dropped off my puppy the guy said it would be about 2 hours. So 2 hours I planned for then it was a little after so I thought maybe it's running long. Then it hit 3 hours so I made my way back to the store and walked in. All 3 employees were just sitting there chit chatting. I asked about my puppy and they looked at me like I had 3 heads and I looked at the guy I dropped her off with and he shot out of his seat and said I quote "oh my god I forgot about your dog she has been done for a long time a really long time." He said I got distracted cause we needed to fix a sign or something. So my baby was locked in those small crates for what seem to me to be over an hour!! I was beyond pissed! I couldn't even look at them I went behind the door and took my puppy. My husband said the last visit the girl didn't seem to know how to handle our puppy and I said I love Petco let's give them a chance it's someone else! Excuse my language but F*+^ that you forgot about my puppy and didn't even call her owner when you were done sitting around chit chatting was more important.
