I take my dog to get groomed here and they always take care of us. I recommend getting the "WORKS" package, they give them a bath, brush their teeth, clip thier toe nails, and few other things. I would recommend the groomers department. I would highly recommend this groomers to everyone. read more

I took my dog for a full bath, it was her first time with gabby, so Gabby came out , I told her about my dog history, she was patient and listened to everything, when she was ready they called us so my husband went to pick her up, when they got home , I was so pleased with the hair cut , one of the best cuts, that my dog had in the past couple of years, even my husband said that too Thank you so much Dear Gabby, we will comeback soon . read more

I usually buy my aquarium fishes from special aquarium stores and not big store like Petco. This year black Friday they have 50% sales on fish. My last fish dies a month ago and i just ran aquarium equipment with no fish. I took a sample of water and headed to Petco to buy. Guy from aquarium department took a test and told me my nitrates to high and suggested that I change water first and he asked his colleague for more tips how to improve water. Another guy spend at least 20 minutes explaining what is wrong and how to fix it. I was treated way much better than in my regular store. They asked me to bring next day tap water to see if its my problem. Next day i brought treated water from aquarium and tap water, but 2 guys were at lunch, and it was 2 girls, also very knowledgeable and helpful. Later on guy from previous day comes back from lunch, take a look at my test, gave more advise, such is changing water for couple of days and etc. But 50‰ off is only for 2 days. They offer me a rain check that after i fix my water, i can buy fish for black Friday discount. I was never treated so good in any other stores. Team working in aquarium department is so knowledgeable and helpful!!! This store will be my first stop! Instead just sell me whatever i want, they try to help to fix issue fist. I recently took my new puppy, Sheman, to get his first "haircut". The groomer I had was Aryiah. She did a fantastic job! Not too short and just perfect. The dog was not stressed out when I picked him up. The groomers have to be very patient with new puppies that don't want to hold still, therefore they give them breaks when they seem to be bothered by any of it. It takes a little longer, but at least they care a lot about the dog and his stress. Thank you Aryiah for a job well done! We will definitely be back with our Sherman! read more

I came in to get a collar for my dog, and she ran off--the entire store ran out and did everything they could to get her. We were able to get her back, and when I returned to the store, Frank, the manager, couldn't have been nicer. He paid for my dog Rosie to get a collar, dog tag, harness, and leash. Additionally, one of the groomers, Lauren, gave Rosie a bath, clipped her nails, and tried 5+ harnesses to make sure I got the perfect one for Rosie. I was blown away by the stellar customer service and the genuine kindness of the staff. This is the only store I will go to now! read more

We bought a Pleco from this store, as well as other fish in the last few years and they all end up being sick fish. This Pleco not only had worms, but fungus too! The conditions that Petco's fish live in are horrible and the it's obvious from how many of them have been sick, that we purchased over these last few years. This time, the result was not only a dead Pleco, but the loss of one of our beautiful common goldfish that we saved from Nowruz (Persian New Year in 2018). His friend is all alone now... We will NEVER buy fish from this store again! Hell, even though it's cheaper, we'll NEVER buy even driftwood from them again! I hope they go out of business soon! None of their people know what they're doing. Why? Because they overwork their small staff, so no department gets the kind of attention it really needs. From now on, even though it's a little pricier, we'll buy all of our fish and aquarium products from Aquarium City (in Canoga Park) or Amazon (cheaper prices on medicine and food). And their fish are ALWAYS healthy! read more

We used to always get our dog groomed here and only here until this past week we had a huge issue. We had a scheduled appointment for this Sunday, until one of the groomers called and said that my dog had a flag on his account for being aggressive. I know my dog is not aggressive so when I asked what she meant she told me we came in the week before to get my dog groomed and he got sent out for being aggressive. This so called event never happened and I even told them to look at the security footage because I know I have not brought my dog there since December. I then spoke to the manager Patty, who told me there was nothing she can do and that my dog was just banned from this store for something that never happened. I think it's sad how little they care about the customers especially since we are regulars and buy all of our dog items from there. The way they spoke to me was very rude too and they were accusing me of lying. Overall i'm appalled and have never dealt with something like this in my whole life. DO NOT GO HERE !!! read more

Convenient store within ten minutes of my work. Looks like a bike rack out front and plenty of parking out front.. But it's in the busy fall brook mall parking lot. The store is long and narrow, but seems to have adequate inventory. No one in line when I checked out, but one person came in line while I was checking out.. Probably because it was 2:10 in the afternoon. They also have a "pals" reward tracking system when you purchase things... You can also use your phone number once you sign up. Sometimes you get coupons for extra savings when you shop a lot or when you haven't for a long time. Plenty of dog, cat, fish, small animal, etc, food and accessories. Of course, I'm going mainly for dog food! Everyone is usually courteous when I shop here. But sometimes there's hardly anyone on the floor to ask questions. read more

I use to love coming here. Because an associate named Mathew was so helpful and so easy to deal with. However, I haven't seen the associate anymore and it's been not bad service but today was what took the cake. Jenna the suppose manager (wearing an associate uniform) suppose never but never heard of the pet pal rewards transaction look up system not only did she not know her stores because she didn't even know where the Encino store was but she claimed herself to be a manager. Of course I asked to speak to another manager or at least the real one Sam the other manager that came to help said she had no idea what I was talking about or what store it was if they're suppose managers how can they not know their stores. I work in retail and I know at least some of the other stores out there. However, I was told I could return something even if I didn't have the receipt but it could looked up with the pet pals rewards thing. Even me explaining to the person look I have the only card I use for the item they insisted on trying to give me store credit. Honestly I expected this horrible service from Petsmart not from Petco. I guess I'll have to find another way to purchase things for my dog and my aquatic animals but I'll not return to this or any other petco. read more

Bad customer service. People just don't care. The younger girl who works there should be fired. Don't ever walk away from someone when they are talking to you. I patiently waited in line for 20 mins just so you could blow me off, all I wanted was a dog tag and did not want to be rude when you where helping someone else, so I waited in line, completely rude. I have been coming to this Petco for years and have always had a great experience except for this last time. I called and made an appointment with Jeff to get my dogs groomed. The next day, I brought my dogs in with the current proof of vaccinations per his request the day before when making the appointment. As I hand Jeff my paperwork I see a puzzling look on his face so I ask him what's wrong and he says that the date is incorrect on the paperwork. To be completely honest, I made a mistake in filling out the paperwork at the vet and put a date that was for 2 days in the future. For example, I got the shots on the 9-24 and put 9-26 on the paper. I explained to Jeff that I had just got the shots the day before and I made a mistake on the date while trying to hold 2 dogs, fill out paperwork and answer questions. It happens, a mistake was made but it's not the end of the world. At this point Jeff was visibly upset and says that he will have to go call the vet to verify that I actually got the shots done. He turns around and says "can't anything go right today" as he walks away.....really, is the attitude needed.....I'm sorry that me being off by a day or two has inconvenienced you so much that it has ruined your entire day. After few minutes, he returns and says that that vet is not open and that he can't verify the shots so he won't be able to groom my dogs. So because I was a day or two off on my shots he is refusing both of my vaccinations not even taking note of the sticker that the vet puts showing that it expires in 2018 (we are in 2017 at time of writing this). I spoke to Matt the manager on duty and he was awesome. Very helpful and sympathetic and after seeing that the vaccination expired in 2018 he offered to reschedule the grooming. I thanked him but refused because after arguing with Jeff in grooming, I wasn't about to hand my dogs over to someone that was already upset with me. That's like arguing with a mechanic then trusting him that everything will be fixed properly with your car. I would rather just bring my pups to another place that isn't going to crucify me for being off a day or two on paperwork. As long as Jeff and his wonderful attitude in grooming is there, I won't be back. read more

Been getting our dogs groomed here for years. Never had complaints for a while. Then realized we were being overcharged for months and all they did was say sorry. No reimbursement. Even worse, this past weekend my dog was groomed there. She usually takes an hour and a half. Called after an hour and a half and they hadn't even started because the girl that grooms her wasn't there. Instead of informing us of this, my dog sat in a cage. An hour and a half later (3 altogether) she still wasn't ready. My mom walked in to get her and she was sitting in a crate WET. My friends dog died like this at a groomers. Got pneumonia. COMPLETELY unacceptable to me. Not to mention the reason she was so late this time was because the staff was dealing with a labrador that had fallen off the table and broken their leg. NEGLIGIANCE. There is NO excuse. You would have to not be paying attention or standing right there for that to happen. Not to mention, the dogs are usually attached to the table by leashes. Was one not on? Do you know how hard it is for a dog that big to break a leg? I'm so disgusted and mortified. None of my dogs will be returning here ever again. That poor baby is going to be scared of the groomers forever now.... not to mention how much pain he is in for nothing that was his fault. Makes me sick. read more

Jeff groomed my two dogs and i was beyond pleased with his service. He is friendly and incredibly competent. He has also groomed my cat. I was impressed to hear that Petco actually sends him to Petco locations in other states to teach groomers how to take care of felines. He's a great asset to Petco. read more

Haven't actually had my dog groomed there but did stop in to look around a few days ago and caught some of the groomers in action. There was a girl, I think her name tag said Sara, who seemed to really know what she was doing and was being pretty gentle with the dog. I'm no expert on grooming but it looked fine, the little of what I could see. Store is nice overall. No complaints. The guys in the store were helpful in locating the cat food for me real quick. DO NOT GO TO THE GROOMERS ANYMORE!! I don't know what happened to them. They were so good with the previous woman in charge. She adores all the dogs that come in. But now..it's COMPLETELY different. The man with the gray hair was really rude. I don't know what his problem was but from the second i walked in he had the biggest attitude. It was like he hated life, humans AND EVEN THE DOGS. He was tugging on the hair of this poodle who was whining so hard. He looked at me like a didn't belong and when I said I had an appointment he gave me this look as if he had something better to do with his life. The tall guy with the beard was the only nice one who actually greeted me with a smile. And when I came back to pick up my dog he was being very friendly and sweet. He's the only reason why this review gets 1 star. We noticed that they charged us 60 DOLLARS FOR A BATH. What the hell is that?!?! They added this spa package that was not mentioned and was not ask for AT ALL. I will not be bringing my dog back EVER. Good luck Petco. read more

The last two times I've gone here I noticed a strong odor in the store. I know it's a pet store but the smell is stronger than it should be. I went back to get my dog food and found rat pee all over the bag. I looked back on the shelf and saw rat poo. I've had rats as pets in the past so I'm pretty familiar with their smell. I realized there must be a rat living in the shelves some where. I told an employee, and she apologized. I was more just telling the, so they would know about the problem. A few weeks later me and my husband were looking for new dog beds. The smell seemed more powerful this time. Like a rat cage that is way overdue for a cleaning. We go to the dog beds and I kid you not, every bed we wanted had rat pee on it!! Now that's nasty. My husband told an employee. He said we could probably get a 20% discount. No thanks!!! That's nasty, it had rat pee on it!!! My dogs would definitely not like that. I think I'll just go to Red Barn. They're much more friendly and receptive there anyways. read more

We have been customers of this petco for 3 years since we adopted our rescue golden retriever. Everything was fine at first, nice people friendly and helpful. As of late they continued to raise the price stating that we had been under charged. Never complained. Scheduled an appointment for today Fri the 12th. We were just about there, when they called said appointment was at 9 and we were being cancelled. I am more than positive on the time as we had another appointment and asked if we could drop the dog about 15 min early. I was told no problem. But she would be in kennel till her appointment time. I have heard so many bad things about Petco and was surprised. Well, we will no longer be using them. I now would not trust them. I spoke with manager who told me I could leave my dog there all day. Really not helpful. The have been becoming less and less professional. I wouldn't give them more than half a star read more

This review is for the grooming salon. I took my Chihuahua in there the other day to get a bath nail trim and file which he has done many times before at different location. The lady was really nice she wasn't rude at all by any means I left my dog there and she told me to come back in a half an hour. When I came back to pick up my dog I had never seen him so terrified I'm not quite sure why he was so scared but he was really really uneasy. First thing I noticed was his nails were not filed and she had mentioned that she couldn't file his nails and that whoever had filed them in the past must have tortured him to do it because he was so fidgety. I also noticed that he had pieces of his fingernail hanging off to the side as if they were just carelessly cut and she just didn't care about the rest of it his nails were so incredibly sharp they were like little razor blades cuz they have little shards of nail hanging off of it. And then I noticed a scrape on his knee which he did not have before and also another scrape behind his ear he did not get a haircut so I could not understand for the life of me why he had scrapes on him. When I asked what happened the people in the grooming salon just stared at me blankly nobody said anything. He was so terrified he was clinging on to me and if she walks by me he would cling harder and try to run away as if he was afraid of her. Now I'm not saying she did anything to hurt him on purpose or anything like that but there is a reason why my dog did not feel comfortable with her. I do not recommend this place as far as dog grooming goes . But as far as the store it is like any other pet store it'll have employees they don't know what they're talking about and it'll have employees are doing over there talking about there will be employees that are helpful and there will be employees that are not very helpful that's inevitable when it comes to big stores like Petco and Petsmart. I'm not very picky about the way that those stores are run because they're all pretty much run the same as long as I can get my dog food and my supplies that I need I'm happy I can do my own research and answer my own question. But when it comes to the well being of my dog and how my dog is treated this is absolutely not a place I trust. read more

First, I'd like to say - I love the remodel, the grooming salon looks great. I understand they have a new mgr in the salon, and things seem to be looking better. Maybe with a nicer looking salon, and new boss, grooming staff has a better attitude. Second, I really appreciate the grooming staff for their kindness, patience, and taking such good care of my bulldog while she's in their care. My big 70 pound bulldog is afraid of everything! Granted that my stepmother is terrible with watching the clock and left the dog there longer than needed, we found him kept in a cage in the back for over several hours. Whats worse is that they do NOT TAKE THE DOGS TO GO TO THE BATHROOM. Um! You're working for the benefit of animals, shouldn't you take care of their bodily needs? Not to mentiom the girl who took my dog was a bit sassy. I wouldn't complain over that. But my dog came home with an inflamed butthole. And had to go four times consecutively before he got it all out. Damn it. No. Oh but they made his fur look nice.. -___- That's all. Nick, the manager, was very unhelpful. I tried to return a chameleon and was told by another employee there that it was a 30 day return policy. Nick said I was told the wrong information, while stumbling on his tongue ring, and there was nothing that I could do or he could do. I asked for store credit or another animal such as a gecko since this one was mean and biting. I informed him I am a regular customer there, purchasing recently food for all my animals, aquariums, fish, parakeets and cages, all other stuff to go into cages, dog toys and treats and we take dog training lessons there and could he make any exception to retain me as a customer? He said no. I called another Petco and they were very friendly and said they do have the authority to make judgement calls for quality customers. I will not return and one unhappy person tells 10 people and this is one unhappy customer. The Petco on Ventura Blvd will get my business now. He was on a break and no one could assist me. I had to leave the store and will have to come back another day. I had an absolutely horrendous experience buying a bird here. He died on day eleven after I'd bought him. I took him inside the cage I'd bought along with everything else I'd bought for him back to this Petco, and I couldn't believe the insensitivity with which I was treated. I may have only had him for a short time, but I was nevertheless attached to him, and I was very upset that he had died so soon. The first thing the man asked me was if I wanted to get another one! Neither he nor anybody else working there was the least bit caring or concerned or expressed any sorrow about this. All of the birds that they had there when I took him back looked like different ones to me, so I don't know if they were all ill and died and they'd replaced them with others or what happened. It doesn't seem likely that they all would have been sold in such a short time because they had had quite a few. I think my little bird was probably ill when I bought him for this to have happened. After some time had passed, I eventually went to Petsmart where they actually care about the health of the birds they sell, bought one there, and have had him for well over three years now, and he's always been very healthy and happy. read more
