Just FORGET this grooming salon!! We've made an appointment for our dog in Feb for grooming in early April. It was accepted and confirmation received. All set!! Now all of a sudden, today, without any explanation, we receive an email and a text telling us our appointment has been canceled!!! WTH!!!! When we called them back to find out what happened, no one picks up the phone. As our appointment was on a Sunday, we thought perhaps there was a glitch in the system and their grooming salon is actually closed on Sundays, but when we look at their appointment calendar, Sundays *are* available. So, again, WTH, Petco! Cancelling on us *WITHOUT ANY* explanation!? We are so FURIOUS, we are NEVER going to Petco again!! UPDATE: We finally got a call-back! She was very apologetic that she canceled our appointment by mistake and reinstated our appointment. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 3. I often come to pet co to destress and cheer my self up today unfortunately, I was heartbroken to see the state of the Guinea pig and other rodent terrariums they were covered in poop and had small flies inside. I can't believe how terrible the living situations is for these little guys perhaps they're short staffed or improperly trained but this is unacceptable anyone above the age of 10 can see when something is dirty and disgusting. read more

Today my son tried to buy one pleco fish for one of our fish tanks. We came to Petco at the Cerritos town Center and the supervisor Patty refused to sell him the fish. She didn't feel comfortable selling the fish because the size of our tank. We have a 40 gallon tank with 2 goldfish and she still said it was not safe for the Fish. This isn't the first time an employee at Petco questions us about our purchase. I understand they do have to make sure the animals are well taken care of but they cannot just assume people will not take care of their pets. I don't understand the policies corporate instills to their employees but if they want people to feel that they care about animals that is certainly not what they are portraying to their customers. As a customer, felt schitty with the heavy psychology of economics happening with Petco's promotions. The lack of knowledge (or slim shadiness. Think following the nut under the moving cups street hustle trick) of registry work (ringing in promotions incorrectly, and not returning credit at true cost), the deliberate promotional misleading through signage (tiny arsh exclusions and promotion placement), and the 'I don't give a duck about this customer' vibing (think actions versus words), gave me an icky feeling leaving the store. Gave three stars instead of the one star rating because I know it's probably not just this particular Petco. It's probably a corporate thing trickling down, and a 'I don't get paid enough to care about what corporate does or how it affects customers' mentality. Believe me, I want Petco to do well, but until corporate, and in-store representatives offer a better feeling to customers (or just a sense of transperency), more customers will go through some cognitive dissonance (think, 'how can feeling ripped off when I just thought I was getting deals'). Customers will eventually entertain other places to handle their pets' needs. Three stars because I want Petco to do better for their customers and employees. If not now, at least in the future. Some folks in San Diego (CEO and prolly corporate location) count on it, and their stakeholders too. read more

So today my daughter and I go into petco to purchase dogg food and we always pass by the reptile section to check out what leopard geckos they have. And to our unfortunate surprise we come across a VERY malnourished Blizzard leopard gecko and this hurt a lot to see. I breed geckos myself and I could never allow this. I spoke with a supervisor or at least she said she was and I asked if I could adopt the gecko so I could save the reptile and she refused and stated it's Petco's policy not to allow any adoption and that she must take the reptile to the vet. I even mentioned to save the gecko and bring it back for them to sell and unfortunately I was told with a careless response and a rude demeanor no. This should not happen at Petco's stores. This gecko was beyond malnourished and this gecko was neglected because the other gecko that was in the enclosure seemed to be thriving and that means there associates were placing food for them to eat and NOBODY noticed this?????? I wish petco would change this and actually do something about this because this is a bad image to have and shows the associates do not care what's so ever. The manager of this location should be held accountable for when any animals in there care are neglected like this. Check the photo out, look at the difference in the size of there tail. Went in for some dog food today and thought the visit was pretty successful. They had the food that my little boys love and a good variety of it. We also bought another topper to try, I hope they like it. Customer service was good. Was helped but two young boys and given good advice. Kaweesha suggested trying this new Wellness Air Dried grain free topper in place of our current topper. We'll give it a try and see which one the like better. This use to be my favorite petco because of its clearance rack and I would drive all the way from Cerritos to shop here but when I went in this week 3/20 there was no clearance section and the building is under construction/tarted off and things moved/being organized. When I tried to return for store credit the lady said they changed their policy that you have to have the receipt and it be within 30days. She stated this new policy was implemented months ago but I went to petco unleashed in Long Beach and did not have an issue returning for store credit without receipt etc. read more

We've been coming here since January and the service from all employees are amazing. They are all knowledgeable and super friendly. Thankful that Tim was able to help my husband and I when we were getting our stuff for our new puppy. He showed us around and answered many of our questions as first time puppy owners. He also informed us about their free puppy play time on Saturdays. That's where we met one of their dog trainers Chelsea and she's soooo amazing! She's super friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. She's helped us with our teething puppy by recommending stuff to help our puppy out. They want nothing but the best for your fur babies. A while ago I thought I would give petco a chance to groom my little Lizzy girl, she's 8 pounds and just a lover. Well the first time I took her,the girl that groomed my little girl, something went wrong. My little girl came home and was shaking and started to throw up. I swore I wouldn't go back. Well I changed my mind and decided I would go if someone else would groom my little girl, that's when I met Brian. He was such a great guy and loved my little girl. So I continued to to see him. And then all of a sudden Brian got fired. I'm sad he left. So I decided to let petco try it one more time, well that same girl groomed my girl again. She also cut my little girls tail, and I didn't ask her to, she shaved all her tail, and told me when I picked her up, hope I didn't mind but she shaved all her tail hair off. Then the next day Lizzy started licking her paws alot. So today I took her to the vet and was told she caused the sore bcuz my girl was nervous, and asked me what happened in the last few days. I said I let a new person groom her . The vet suggested to not let the lady groom her again. So it saddens me that Brian isn't there anymore, so I will not be going back to petco.. read more

I've never really had an issue here ... the only thing is compared to other petcos or petsmart, this one is small. I come to get some dog food, doggy snacks. They have low cost vaccinations on Sunday late afternoons which is always nice and cheap. I've brought my dog here twice for the vaccinations. The line does get long at times, so just prepare for the wait. They also have NFL gear for your dog...I just couldn't help myself, I had to get the collar which she ended up biting and destroying...so then I got the charger leash instead! Sorry I couldn't help it, I love the chargers. Recently I took my Nani-bear to get groomed. She got a haircut (she's a medium size dog) +the works (shampoo, conditioner, flea control stuff, teeth cleaning) and it all just cost $66. Not bad. The haircut was a bit choppy, not so even. But she came out smelling great, she looked great, her mattes were gone from her ears and her ass was nicely shaven so her shit won't stick...and that makes all the money worth while for me. Plus they put two red ribbon bows on her ears...and let me tell you, my dog is not a bow type dog! She's definitely not a little cute lap dog...she's a jumping in your face fun dog! My wife and I just adopted Danté and were feeling nervous because it had been years since either one of us had a dog.. but never a German Shepherd. We walked into the nearest Petco to grab the essentials and felt slightly overwhelmed.. and we must've looked like it because we were approached by one of the employees, Ili, to see if we needed help. We told Ili we were new to the game and she offered to walk us around the store and pointed out things we'll need right away and others that we want eventually. We finally made our way to the cashier and Ili met us there to make sure we had coupons and a dog training schedule. Turns out Ili is a groomer there and was off the clock when she offed to show us around. I was blown away by her willingness to help. My sister flew into town from Seattle with her two very fluffy pups a few weeks back. The weather out here was still very warm for her dogs liking. She decided to get her pups groomed. I told her to stop by this shop and let me tell you Jessica handled her babies with extreme love and care. My sister loves her pups like her own children so I knew if this didn't go well she would have chewed me out alive. But to my surprise she delivered excellent service that brought back my sometimes difficult sister back with extreme satisfaction!!! I went in to Petco on Sunday September 29, 2019 after I left PetSmart. I took my Pug in to get a Furminator bath, teeth brushed, and nails filed. They did a horrible job they called me in 20 minutes and said he was ready. When I got there and picked him up he was wet and smelled worst then when I left him. They also said they were unable to file his nails and chunks of hair were falling. My dog was so anxious and could not wait to leave. I spoke to the manager and left to Petco. When I got to Petco I spoke with Ili and asked if she was available to file my dogs nails and brush the hair off. She was finishing up so she agreed to take my Pug. She did an amazing job my dog was so comfortable with her. She was able to brush him out and take all the excess hair out. I mean my Pug looked like he lost 5 lbs that is how much hair came off. She was also able to file his nails with no problem what so ever. He was at no time anxious or barking excessively. He was calm and actually enjoyed his grooming time. That was my first time taking any dog to Petco and honestly we booked our next appointment for this Saturday for our Yorkie. I never had a bad experience with our other dogs at PetSmart but that experience made me not want to go back. We will be doing all our grooming needs at Petco from now on. They are also cheaper just so you know. Same service better price. Well actually not same service better service! Ili really knew what she was doing. 3rd time today visiting the Vetco staff for a vaccination to our newest family member. Must admit, the staff is super sweet and friendly. I've usually driven to LA by USC to have my pets vaccinated, but because of covid things changed at my vets office longer wait, only a number of pets seen a day, etc. So last year, I decided to give Vetco a try. The drive is less than 5 mins and the process is about 15-20 mins depending on how busy they are. The prices are reasonable. I will def keep coming back. I have a doberman pinscher and not only does he love it here, the trainers and he grooming service are very caring, sweet, and professional with my dog My dog received his puppy training here with Chelsea. She is very patient and works well with dogs and their owners. On Sundays, I took him in to socialize with other puppies during their puppy play time hours. Their grooming service really is the best. Many of the groomers and several members of the overall staff are a little older and have more experience and longer years of service than the overall staff of the local and nearby Pet smart. When it came to grooming and service at Pet Smart, I felt like some of the staff had little knowledge in the products or in their services. To be honest...the Pet smart felt like it was a store that hired seasonal college students. At this Petco location, hey truly have a reliable, caring and professional staff that have years of service in grooming. Illy is one of the best groomers at this location. She is very patient and pleasant with my dog. He just loves her. Illy even helped me train him a little bit with a harness when he was younger. They also have cute themes for the holidays in the grooming center. This month there was a Star Wars package and well, my dog looked so handsome with his new Star Wars bandanna after his bath. My dog grew up here and the staff here have always treated him like family over the last few years. This is definitely a place that I can trust to take care of my dog and his needs. read more

So I scheduled a grooming appointment for a new adopted dog showed up with paperwork of all her shots first groomer didn't see where shots were up to date so he called the Vet's office first woman told him our dog was due for shots second call in another woman said yes her shots were up to date as stated on paperwork but..... the groomer guy who never got up off his stool said our dog wasn't under our name nor the paperwork so we'd have to get that changed before PetCo could groom her. Yes complete waste of my day even if he had changed his mind I wouldn't have them groomer just hated how lazy he was being and excuses to me is a sign of not wanting my business!! Always greeted with a smile even when the grooming department was short staffed. Illi takes the time to listen when you have questions or concerns. Petey may be upst and she is amazing at taking a moment and calming him down then continue on with his cut. I took my little shih-tzu here to get groomed the other day, and I was very pleased! From the moment I walked in the groomers were so pleasant and friendly! I had forgotten my rabies vaccination certificate and they called VCA to confirm so I wouldnt have to drive all the way back to my house! That was very convenient and really nice of them. I believe the groomers name was Shawn? He took such good care of my pucca and I'm so used to taking her to a different girl, but she recently transferred to Rancho Cucamonga and that's just too far for us. So a family member recommended Shawn to me like last year and I decided to go for it, and I'm really glad I did. My pucca looks like a brand new dog! You know what's worse than seeing a dead fish in the aquarium?? -- Seeing two or more dead fish in the aquarium! And unfortunately I saw a total of FOUR (4) dead fish in the aquariums of Petco. Now I'm not a PETA advocater or anything like that, but come on, Petco should have better employees who know how to take care of their fishes. I saw other fishes nibble at the dead fish that was floating around in the water. Talk about cannibalism at its finest. And other tanks had dead fishes just floating sideways. Since the aquarium water is shared by the whole community, one sick or dead fish could contaminate and infect other healthy fishes. And you really don't want to bring home a sick fish into your healthy home aquarium. That's why responsible fish owners know to have a quarantine tank to hold the diseased or sickly fishes. This way, you can isolate them from the rest of the population and also put medicine in the tank to heal the sick fishes. I mean, the Wal*Mart in the same Cerritos Towne Center had healthier and cleaner fish! Imagine that, Wal*Mart, who sells everything from clothesline clips to LCD televisions, have cleaner and healthier fish than Petco. I was so dismayed by Petco that I had to go somewhere else to buy fishes for my home aquarium. I hope they really shape up in the future! Of course, my review is only for their aquarium department... they may have a better dog/cat department, but really, how hard is it to take care of fishes? read more

Petco, I'm giving you this poor review based on your so called "Self Serve Dog Wash". When I went there, it seems that the "self serve" area was really an extra tub in the back that the store decided should bring in extra money as a self-serve station. It's nothing special, but because it's situated in the back, you have to walk your past all the other dogs being groomed by the staff. On the Saturday I went it was a gauntlet of little yappy dogs (which you should be aware of before you take your dogs in there). I had brought in a rescue dog that I'm fostering. This dog was just released from the pound and really needed a good bath. Apparently even though it's self serve, you need to provide vaccination records (which I left at home and wasn't mentioned on the phone when I called). They wouldn't even accept his license tag even though cities require proof of Rabies vaccination to even get a license. The staff, which treated me like I was an idiot, said they'd call the vet if I had the number. Again I mentioned which pound he was from so that they could get the number, but they still insisted that I had to get the number for them. Self-serve all right. In the end, I decided to go to Tidy Dog in Long Beach instead. The facility is bigger, cleaner, quieter, and not as stressful as Petco. And the staff go out of their way to help out and make you feel comfortable--even though it too is a "self-serve" dog wash. I'm NEVER going back to Petco again. Oh, and their P.A.L.S. never saved me jack. read more
