You know what's worse than seeing a dead fish in the aquarium?? -- Seeing two or more dead fish in the aquarium! And unfortunately I saw a total of FOUR (4) dead fish in the aquariums of Petco. Now I'm not a PETA advocater or anything like that, but come on, Petco should have better employees who know how to take care of their fishes. I saw other fishes nibble at the dead fish that was floating around in the water. Talk about cannibalism at its finest. And other tanks had dead fishes just floating sideways. Since the aquarium water is shared by the whole community, one sick or dead fish could contaminate and infect other healthy fishes. And you really don't want to bring home a sick fish into your healthy home aquarium. That's why responsible fish owners know to have a quarantine tank to hold the diseased or sickly fishes. This way, you can isolate them from the rest of the population and also put medicine in the tank to heal the sick fishes. I mean, the Wal*Mart in the same Cerritos Towne Center had healthier and cleaner fish! Imagine that, Wal*Mart, who sells everything from clothesline clips to LCD televisions, have cleaner and healthier fish than Petco. I was so dismayed by Petco that I had to go somewhere else to buy fishes for my home aquarium. I hope they really shape up in the future! Of course, my review is only for their aquarium department... they may have a better dog/cat department, but really, how hard is it to take care of fishes? read more

Petco, I'm giving you this poor review based on your so called "Self Serve Dog Wash". When I went there, it seems that the "self serve" area was really an extra tub in the back that the store decided should bring in extra money as a self-serve station. It's nothing special, but because it's situated in the back, you have to walk your past all the other dogs being groomed by the staff. On the Saturday I went it was a gauntlet of little yappy dogs (which you should be aware of before you take your dogs in there). I had brought in a rescue dog that I'm fostering. This dog was just released from the pound and really needed a good bath. Apparently even though it's self serve, you need to provide vaccination records (which I left at home and wasn't mentioned on the phone when I called). They wouldn't even accept his license tag even though cities require proof of Rabies vaccination to even get a license. The staff, which treated me like I was an idiot, said they'd call the vet if I had the number. Again I mentioned which pound he was from so that they could get the number, but they still insisted that I had to get the number for them. Self-serve all right. In the end, I decided to go to Tidy Dog in Long Beach instead. The facility is bigger, cleaner, quieter, and not as stressful as Petco. And the staff go out of their way to help out and make you feel comfortable--even though it too is a "self-serve" dog wash. I'm NEVER going back to Petco again. Oh, and their P.A.L.S. never saved me jack. read more

Went in a few days ago looking for a groomer to take care of my fur kids and came across a discussion involving a employee (no name but she had short hair and tattoos) and she reeked of Pot and was cussing (yes profanity ) out a person speaking with another employee. Not sure what the issue was but was extremely disappointed in her customer awareness. I am not about to leave my Dogs with a person that would treat another person like that and is under the influence. Doesn't the company have any regard or rules for that? As a major corporation, you have a responsibility to assure us that our pets are safe while under your care. This obvious disregard to a customer and customer service is a lapse in professionalism and I truly hope it will be addressed. You have lost a regular customer and yes I am posting this on my social network so my friends with pets will save themselves a trip. read more

After picking up the new pup (she still doesn't have a name), I headed straight to Petco to pick up a crate. Well whaddya know? I ran into Lily A. and her BF there! Hehe. After saying a quick hi and hello, we parted ways and I headed to the back to check out the crates. Mind you, I was in a hurry, because I had to get the pup home as soon as possible. The store is incredibly small, so it didn't take long to find the right section. I picked up one of the crates to purchase, but the pup fell asleep on the floor and wouldn't budge. I couldn't carry both the pup and the crate at the same time, so I headed back to the front. Puppy was smelly. Trying to breathe through my mouth, I happened to pass the cashier. Cashier: Where'd you get her from? Me: I just picked her up RIGHT NOW from the shelter. She's smelly. Cashier: You know, you can get her a self service wash. Apparently, you can pay $10 and wash your dog yourself, using all of their products! Interesting, interesting. After years of raising dogs and taking them to various groomers (including Petco's and Petsmart's), I'd never known there was such an option. Imagine all the money I could've saved!!! Anyways, I decided that the crate could wait (the pup was SMELLLLLY). I immediately made a detour to the grooming area and asked to do the self-service wash. I got REJECTED~~ That's because the pup doesn't have her rabies shots yet. I was about to leave, so I stooped over to pick up the pup (she was sleeping again), when I noticed she had an extra toenail. Huh? An extra toenail? Upon closer examination, what I THOUGHT was an extra toenail was actually... a giant engorged TICK. Yeah, gross, I know. I started looking between all of her toes, and there were FAT ASS TICKS EVERYWHERE!!! Not only is that YUCK, but OMFG imagine what the poor pup was going through! No wonder she'd been SOOO lethargic! It was past 5pm, and I had been planning to take her to the vet the following day, but the discovery of the ticks changed the whole schedule. Me: Do you have tweezers or forcepts? And alcohol? Flaming Groomer Dude: Why? Me: She has TICKS!! I need to remove at least SOME of these! Flaming Groomer Dude: Um, you should take her to the vet for that. Me: Are there any open right now? Flaming Groomer Dude: Uhhh, if you try the Bloomfield one Me: Yeah, I know where that is. You think it's open? Flaming Groomer Dude: Welllllll~~ If you hurry~~~ Me: (picking up dog) Okay, I'll go right now Flaming Groomer Dude: Yeah, you should.. Because if you don't, then she's going to get some disease... Damn~~ Whatsit called?? Boy~~ I can't remember... It's like... this disease... that they get... from ticks... I mean, that kind of stuff HAS to be treated right away, ya know? Oh gosh! What was it called again? I'm having a brain fart... Oh, uh... It's that thing that happens when you lose a lot of blood... But either way, you need to take her to the vet, because the vet will help you remove them all. But if you want a temporary solution, you can try to get this medicine. I don't remember what it was called, but it's a pill. Actually, your puppy might be too young to.... OMFGGGGGGGGGGGG SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP TALKING!!!!!! While telling me that I MUST get her to the vet PRONTO, and that MAYBE a few vets MIGHT be open still, he still took up a good fifteen minutes just YAPPING AWAY! Mind you, I was trying to be polite, since he was "trying" to be helpful, but... I actually didn't get away until he got a phone call. As soon as he picked up the phone, I grabbed the dog, and whisked away, whispering "Thank you." Goodness cripes. No common sense! read more

I usually give a good review for this place but today no! 3 youngerster working there chatting and joking around, nothing wrong with having fun during work hours just not on front of customers they were making inappropriate jokes and they kept going. This is the only place I take my dog (for the last 5 yrs) Taz absolutely loves his groomer Ili! He gets excited the second we pull into the parking lot and runs all the way up to the counter to see her. He is a large dog that has chronic ear infections and is allergic to literally everything. She always does a great job getting him to let her clean his ears and his fur always feels great when they are done. I would highly recommend her! I even got my mom to start bringing her Lhasa apsos to her now too! read more

Often people write reviews when they are unhappy with the service, but they seldom do when they are happy with the service. I'd just like to commend a Cerritos Petco Team member (ALAN) who had helped me today. I had ordered a cat tree via online, and was going to pick up via curbside pick up. However, I hadn't yet received an email to inform me that it was ready, so I walked into the store to see it if was ready (I had ordered it 2.5 hrs prior and I had to leave the city soon). I walked into the store, and my item was ready. Alan was at the front counter and assisted me, he said that he had just brought the cat tree to the front. I asked if could inspect the cat tree first and also if he could help carry it to my car which he accommodated both requests. His interface with me is what superior customer service should be - courtesy, politeness, and accommodating. Keep up the great work Alan. read more

It should not take 5 and a half hours for a little dog to get a groom. It took 2 and a half hours last time how is this possible? Do not ever plan to come here if u don't have a full 8 hour day ahead of u to sit around and wait for them to take their sweet time. Will not be coming back here Updated 4 days later. They knicked his balls which has caused irritation and a rash now thanks a lot. Also missed a spot on top of head and left side of mouth. Now I have to pay for a lovely vet visit thanks to petco I know I won't get a message from the business because they only write back to "awesome experiences that u love. Took my puppy to get her fur trimmed down for the summer. Came back to pick her up and she was a whole new cutie pie! She's part poodle and VERY energetic, so I'm sure she gave Vailliilli, the groomer, a hard time. And yet, she looked amazing! I cannot thank Vailliilli enough for the great work she did. Petco seems a lot cleaner than Petsmart. Also the workers are actually a lot nicer here as well and very helpful. We got our puppy shots here and got his nail trim here. grooming service was quick and good. We will definitely go here for puppy training. Don't go here!!!!! First off good luck trying to find a shopping cart that isn't filled full of back stock. The customer service is non existent. There isn't hardly anything on the shelves, probably because it's all in the shopping carts. And it smells really bad. We did however meet a really nice representative from Blue. Ever since Ashley left the dog grooming services, everything has been horrible. They no longer call you the day before to confirm your appointment. Ashley used to always call her customers to schedule your next appointment, but this doesn't happen anymore. They people working in there now are kind of "ho hum", and don't really seem to care whether you bring your dog there or not. Time to find a new groomer. read more

OMG!!! This place is horrible!!! when I first start taking my puppy here back in 2014 they did such a wonderful job. Fast forward to 2017, I took my fur baby to get groomed and she came home with cuts on her, I was pissed!!!! The next day I called to talk with the grooming supervisor and she apologized about what happened and refunded me back my money, she also offered free grooming the next time I came. So I decided to give them another shot. I took my fur baby back and this time the grooming supervisor groomed my fur baby.Lets just say I was pissed!! She didn't do a good job grooming her at all, she cut her uneven. It was just a MESS!!! I would recommend everyone to walk right over to "Petsmart" they do a wonderful job and everyone is amazing. read more

This is my local petco and when I first got a dog this store was always my go-to for my dog's needs. That is until I realized that other stores likes Petsmart and other branches like the Petco in Norwalk was having way more deals and discounts on my dog's needs than this one did. It was weird to me how lacking in promotions this store was so I eventually stopped going. Ordering your supplies off Amazon or Chewy.com would be cheaper than going to this specific store. Also, the staff are nice but I feel that don't really care about answering questions or giving you a tailored, experienced response to help the customers. read more

We now own a little 5 month old Chihuahua/terrier puppy named Paco (as of December 24th). Today I went to Petco to find him a little sweater - we ended up getting a soft little coat for him, along with some shampoo. No complaints, just an observation - the cashier didn't ask me if I had a PetPals card, so I had to ask for an application. She did apologize, though - I had Paco with me, and I noticed that she didn't acknowledge him at all; no "awww! He's cute!" (he is cute!, says the new mother), or anything like that. There was an employee in the aisles who did ask me some questions about him - I just thought it was interesting, because to be a cashier at a Petco must be to see many, many, animals, and I would think part of the fun of it would be to talk to the customers and play with the pets, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, it's a clean, well-stocked store (at least the part where I was shopping), and the employees are nice. read more

I have a fur baby (cat) I rescued. I buy her cat food here. Prices are a bit high but it helps to even things out if you are a member. They give you coupons at least once a month if you sign up for their email. On this location, the staff is helpful but they often seem busy. They don't take the time (usually from my experience) to ask if you have any questions or need help so if you need help, don't hesitate to ask them. The cashiers are usually very nice and friendly. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, I bought 2 guinea pigs not even a month ago and one of them got ringworm and had to be taken to the vet. So I got a refund then the same night the other guinea pig randomly died. he was only a few months old. Not to mention I also got other guinea pigs from them a year ago and the same thing happened they both got mites and had to be taken to the vet. Horrible. I have never had a problem here and we have been frequenting the store for the last 4 years or so. We have 3 pugs, a cat, and fish. We used to have red eared sliders. We have had the pugs groomed here 3-4 times. Never had an issue, but we had the same girl the first few times and then a different guy the last time we went. I think it really depends on who you get, how busy they are, and the groomers familiarity with the breed. As for the fish. Yeah, I have seen some dead ones floating. BUT I can't say I have been anywhere and not seen a floater. The exception is a specialty tropical fish store we visit frequently in Lakewood. We have been pleased with the expansion of their "holistic" or "natural" section of foods. Although we now have to get the prescription food due to allergies, they always had the food we needed in the beginning to combat their allergies, the other major pet store doesn't/didn't carry it. I do have to commend them for allowing the cat lady (I know that doesn't sound right) do adoption here as well as a dog rescue that they made a really nice sign for (and they did it on their own). Anyways, we have always found the staff here friendly and helpful. We have never used their training services. I do notice with the economy, I feel that there may be less staff and less items, but I think anywhere you go now these things are happening. I also love their sale/clearance items. Made an appointment here by mistake. Thinking it was a different "a Pet" store. Thought we'd give it a shot. Must admit, we were delightfully surprised. We have a German Shepard, which is a breed that sheds copious amount of fur. When we brought her out of the store and ran our hands through her coat....Not a single strand of hair came out. Of course over the next few days she shed fur; however, the amount was significantly less. The employees did an awesome job. Will come back for all future grooming needs! read more

I made an appointment to have my dog groomed here. The day of her appointment I showed up and was told that I had to reschedule it because the floor had been cleaned. No one called me to tell me this and save me the drive. I took her to her rescheduled appointment and they asked for her proof of rabies shot. I didn't have it with me but her tags are current and they had to have a physical copy of it and because i didn't have it they wouldn't groom her. I've been to multiple groomers and this is the first that wouldn't do it without her paperwork. read more

TIM IS THE MAN! I called with some questions about a potential recalled dog food. I felt like I was talking to a google search engine. This man was INFORMED. Not only did he put my mind at ease in regards to my concerns with the dog food he went above and beyond to explain FDA findings with previous cases and what the actually issues with the food were. He informed me that if I still wanted to return the food he'd be more than happy to help me find a better option. Tim walked me through the aisles and pointed out the foods that he knew were not on any recall list or had any previous issues. I NEVER write reviews but I just had to. Despite having only knowing this man for 15 minutes I feel like I could trust him with my dogs LIFE. Thank you Petco for having employees that treat their customers and their pets like family. they simply don't know how to train dogs! I brought my labrador/german shepard (100+ pounds) he is very over protective so we were looking for training. Well as I was putting his collar amd mussle the "trainer" stuck his hand in my car attempting to help put the collar on my dog.... ANYBODY would know not to put their hand in.... Usually we go to Petsmart for all of our cat products. The customer service there is decent but nothing ever above and beyond just average. Tonight I stopped at Petco in Cerritos since I was going in that direction. I walked in and got a standard greeting while I made my way to the cat department. I couldn't find a brand of food I usually buy so I asked an employee named Kim and she was so gracious enough to stop what she was doing (I'm assuming stock checks or restocking product on shelves) and guide me to some of the products she uses for her own cat. She was very knowledgeable and answered my questions in a professional but also personable way that made me feel valued as a customer. I thanked her then went to the front lane to check out. There was one customer in front of me with an issue for coupons or refund and the cashier called for assistance since she wasn't able to override this customers request without a supervisor or manager. Along came Kim to assist and when she was done she opened up a register to help me- I was the only person in back of the current customer in line and it probably wouldn't have been more than 2-3 minutes before the cashier was done with the current transaction and on to me. However, Kim was able to recognize that customers come first and instead of going back to the shelves she was working on she opened a register and helped me. An employee who can recognize and prioritize what matters is a huge asset to any company and by far Kim was able to recognize that even one customer waiting in line shouldn't have to wait. As she rang me up she asked about my cat and I told her that we had just adopted a kitten and without hesitation she whipped out a 'welcome to the family' booklet full of coupons and freebies! When speaking about litter she walked back to the section with me and up sold me on some great litter that I'm sure our cats will like. Petco- if someone in the corporate office reads this, please recognize Kim at the Cerritos location for her warm smile and gracious hospitality. She is the reason why we will be going to Petco from now on instead of its competitor. read more

I have been in many Petcos and this one definitely has the best employees and customer service. The Cerritos Petco is very clean and organized too. I am not a new dog owner, but taking care of a boxer is. They gave me very helpful advice on food and training for my new boxer. I forgot to grab dog food and thought I would go in the morning. Even though they do not open until 9, Liz, a groomer there, was very kind and asked her manager if I could come in 45 mins before they opened to get him food. I couldn't be more satisfied with the way they took care of me. Thank you Petco! read more

I want to be sure to leave a positive review because the staff is so friendly, and because Naomi does such a wonderful job grooming my Westie, Cosmo. Naomi is also very quick to get him done. Cosmo is getting old and has arthritis. I hate to take him to a groomer and leave him there for 4 or 5 hours, especially in the summer. Naomi has always had him ready in just a couple of hours. He looks great. Cosmo is happy and not worn out, not dying of thirst. When Cosmo is happy I am happy. I only gave 4 stars however because the price is too high for me. I have had Westies all my life. This is the most expensive dog grooming by far......yes Cosmo is happy.......he is worth everything to me......but we're on a budget. I have to look for a better value.....maybe we can find an affordable groomer and still be happy. read more

Pet groomers and manager Jessica really unprofessional: I called to make an appointment for my puppy the only question they asked was what breed,I told them cane corso he said one minute and asked if anyone wanted a cane corso everyone yelled hell no and then he realized he didn't press the hold button. He pressed the hold button after, when he came back on the line he said they were fully booked today and tomorrow that I could call and check back to see if they was any openings. I replied that I heard everyone yell hell no but thanked him for his time. My husband called to talk with the manager Jessica and she was really rude and super unprofessional and made excuses for them. Guess they only take certain dogs maybe they should put that information up to the public.
