Well I came to petco the other day and it was full of random roaches and spiders and SPIDER WEBS every time I come here and see all these stuff but I did buy ghost shrimp and they were amazing they lived a short but good life in my 10 gallon tank but which is cool they can have other types of fish and shrimp compared to petsmart, and the staff is very nice so overall a solid 4/5 read more

I give it a one star rating due to poor customer service. Some of the staff there are rude and think they know every thing about fish. Not all fish need to be in neutral water. Here is a tip for every fish owner out there. Before you walk in to an aquarium store to buy fish. Make sure to do your research on the fish you want to buy and bring in a sample of the water from your fish tank. This will prevent any conflicts with the sales person. read more

I went to take my dog to this place, and this wasn't the first time we've came here before this day (Nov. 26th) i had a pretty great experience no cuts seen or blood, but i took my dog yesterday when i took him, the Lady with glasses did say he had matting and how it'd take couple hours till he would be done. Unfortunately when he was ready to be picked up i was not available so my brother picked my dog up, i had to hear it from my brother that, "the next time he comes and he's matted AGAIN will not take him anymore due to him crying and refusing". When i saw him he was all bruised up and blood all around his neck being cut up and his nails all red with blood due to them cutting his nail to far up. So obviously he's going to try and bite or get frustrated due to them hurting him and my dog being all in pain. read more

The worst Petco location period..... I came here to return some items. I walk in and place is a ghosttown. Then, out of thin air Herbert appears... no hellos more like .. what. I could barely understand dude because he speaks in monotone and with an accent. I had a return and it seemed sooo easy but it took 10 minutes to resolve. Out of no where came this employee, white guy with a long orangy beard. Just rude period to Herb and in general. I needed help on the floor.. no one was out there. Not one soul in sight. Then I had to visit the kitties who were up for adoption. They were so cute but the whole adoption area smelled so bad. Their litter box hadnt been changed. I was in PETCO on Friday (October 30) and will NEVER return. The "kid" who was "cleaning" the fish tanks I'm the back had the most "who gives a fuck about the animals or my job" attitude as possible. This guy was sucking fish up in the siphon and when I said something about the fish being sucked up and left dying on the French drain, he didn't even acknowledge me. This was 1st hand animal cruelty as these fish were left to die on the floor. The cavalier attitude was so astonishing that I will NEVER spend another dollar at ANY PETCO. Awesome groomer at Petco. I am from out of town in Germantown for an extended time visiting family. I called Petco for grooming appointments for my two poodles. I got in the day I called because of cancellations. My groomer did a wonderful job!! I am very happy and pleased!! Even though Petco is much further away for me than Petsmart, I will bypass Petsmart and go to Petco. I deal with Petco in my hometown. Petsmart groomers are awful and rude!!! Not professional!! And the store manager fits right with them! I had a terrible experience there. Thank you, Petco. I will forever be a loyal customer!!! read more

The groomers here honestly suck. They are unprofessional- and they can't say they love dogs and animals all they want but how you treat animals says it all. To these groomers it's just another minimum wage paying job and this goes for every last groomer there. i got a pretty expensive professional cordless trimmer from this location. there was missing pieces. the clipper oil was empty and there was hair all lodged into the machine. i dont know how clean that fur was. i had to open the housing to get it out. and zero gapped them (adjusted the plates for closer shave without cutting skin) and while using them discovered this blade is insanely dull. some how some employee just simply put this item back on the shelf without any inspection, obviously had been opened at one point but made to look like it never had been. this is disgusting and completely unhygienic. if i had not noticed i could be spreading parvo or skin issues to other dogs. no regard for public health, i would expect more from a place FOR ANIMALS THAT ALSO OFFERS GROOMING. no regard for quality control. waste of my money. somebody knowingly put a used/returned item back on the selves without following any kind of protocol and then i spent my money for this very used and dirty tool. i wont be shopping here again because i dont live anywhere near there but i highly suggest that you dont as well. read more

I've never had any problems at this Petco. I have found that Petco carries some items that PetSmart doesn't sell, and Petco has the items when I need them right away. I placed a small, on-line order today, and the free delivery will be quick. Currently, Petco is offering a 10% discount for on-line orders that are picked up at the store. If I had placed a large order, I would have selected the pick-up option because of the 10% discount. I can't comment on the pet care services because I haven't used them. I already have a very good vet. Having a multi-pet household, I'm at my vet often for various services, including this month. I rated my vet on Yelp. I have always found the staff to be friendly. The first time I visited this store, I went through the entire store. So, my visits are easy because I know what products are sold and where they're located. read more

This review is specifically about reptiles. Last time I was there, I noticed that they keep their baby leopard geckos on sand. As any forum, guide, blog, etc. will tell you, sand is a bad substrate for these lizards in particular, especially the babies. People learn that they live in deserts and think that they can be kept on sand - that is not true. They swallow so much of it that it causes potentially fatal digestive issues, even if it's specially made calcium sand. Something as simple as paper towels are a much better alternative. This mistake is easily avoided by anyone who does the appropriate research on how to care for a leopard gecko. I realize this is only one issue but they keep quite a few geckos at a time in the same enclosure which means that this one error has likely resulted in health problems for far too many geckos. read more

When I got the bill at the end there was an additional $10 charge which I did not realize at the time picked up my dog. I was just in Petco getting my son a new fish, we were there for a couple of minutes while he decided which one he wanted. I walked around the store looking for someone to help me, I found this lady who seemed pretty nice and I told her I was looking for a fish for my son. After talking to her she informed me that I could only get one goldfish or a Beta but I didn't want those so I told her no that my son would pick which ever one he wanted, I also told her that I was looking for a new filter. So we are both just standing there while my son picks a fish and I tell yobo to pick whatever fish he liked and she says " Like I said you can either get a goldfish or a beta" and walked away. SHE WALKED AWAY FROM ME... and left me there looking at the tanks. I'm really mad and sad because first yobo didn't get a fish and secondly how do you walk away from a customer like that. Never going back to that petco! My son is super sad he couldn't get a fish but he will get his fish from another store that has better customer service and actually takes their time to educate their customers. It's good noting that I spent over $100 setting up his tank and the guy who helped me told me I could keep up to 3 to 4 fish depending on their size in my tank, while she told me I could only keep 1. Update- I was told to email them and they never responded to my email even after sending another one. I had also called customer service as soon as this happened and it got "disconnected". read more

Eh. I prefer PetSmart. I only come here whenever the Vetco (formerly Luv My Pet) van comes to do pet vaccinations and other services. I usually can't find anything I need here... that is including the merchandise AND the employees when I need help with something. There is rarely anyone in the grooming salon. I swear it feels like there's only 5 people working here! I wandered around the store with my dog for a good 5 mins to find someone to tell me where the sign up line started. No luck. One woman was there cleaning cages, but she panicked when I asked her a question. She told me she didn't work there. I suppose she was a volunteer for the adoption event. Either way, I finally found the line on my own. Moral of my story is.... only come here when it's an emergency. read more

I took my 13 year old niece in here today . It has been over 6 years since I visited the store . The manager was so friendly as well as another employee by the name of Jazzy ! As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome!She took out a few of the animals and was very knowledgeable. With the two pet store locations in Germantown, Petco comes in second with their great prices, friendly service and a wide variety of dog and salt water options. This isn't the prettiest store and the grooming salon is pitiful but you can always stop here and get what you need. They hold frequent pet adoptions and vaccination clinics for pets. read more

We got our puppy groomed here and it was not bad. It was his very first haircut and we watched a portion a of it but the guy doing our dogs hair was very nice and tried to calm and comfort my puppy. The back and legs looked great but the face was cut a little unevenly but it was not that noticeable. He also gave us a complimentary puppy balm and overall the customer service we received from him was outstanding! read more

Was not happy with my dog cut. The groomer pretty much cut her the way he wanted to. My dog was there ALL DAY LONG 9am-4pm and still her cut wasn't right. The staff was nice and friendly but it was one lady who answered the phone and didn't know anything. read more

I have been using this Petco's self wash for years. It has gone downhill each year. On this last visit, November 2019, the ramp up to the wash tub is no longer attached. It doesn't work at all. I had to lift my 60 pound lab into the tub. Fortunately my 70 pound German Shepherd could jump in himself. The water ran warm and occasionally went hot, which is a good way to burn a dog's skin. I mention the issues every time I go. I am told that there is a maintenance request in. If this Petco weren't so well located I would go elsewhere. read more

By far the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I EVER had! Sooo my husband & I got off work and randomly decided to get our 2 year old a fish. We had no idea if we would really even walk out getting one, but we started asking Baylee questions when we seen her testing/cleaning the tanks. She literally answered EVERY SINGLE one of our questions. We were kind of being picky on the price so everytime she directed us to something a little too pricey, she still found something else that met our needs. She explained every question that we asked, detailed and all. We got our fish, fish tank and food all at once. The gravel was a little too pricey so we decided to get that elsewhere but Baylee THANK YOU! And to top it off, Wendy that checked us out was also sooo sweet and nice. Pretty much always have everything I need in stock. Since getting a dog, I'm a regular. Employees are friendly and helpful. It's always sad when you see dead fish in the fishy tanks or poop overflowing in the ferret cages. But then again it's retail and you really don't need to have any animal experience working here. The groomers here are terrible. Both times we've gone they were very off on the time my dog would be done with his grooming. We were told to come back in 3-4 hours and would receive a call when he was finished. 4 hours later and no call so we go in to check on him and she has him leashed up next to her saying she hasn't even started him. Second time through he needed a complete shave down. They nicked his private parts to the point where they're bruised and bleeding. We told the groomer to make him even aka don't leave any one certain area longer than the other. His tail hadn't been touched it looked ridiculous so after grabbing him from then we had to bring him back in which my dog already does not like going to get his hair done so it was horrible to do to him. We were told 30-45 mins that he would be done so we arrive 30 mins after and ended up waiting over an hour and still had to have him go back in for his tail to look normal. I took my dog to be groomed and they wrote my cell phone number down wrong so they couldn't call to tell me that for some reason my dog could not be groomed. After a couple of hours I called in and the groomer, Quinton, told me that my dog wouldn't let Quinton groom him today. When I asked why, he repeated that my dog wouldn't let Quinton groom him. I tried to find out why but Quinton couldn't or wouldn't explain what he meant by that. When I arrived to pick the dog up, Quinton was rude, sarcastic, and really didn't seem to care. I did call the manager, Mr. Battle, who was apologetic and said that he would find out what my dog was doing that made it so he couldn't be groomed and offered me a 25% discount on anything in the store. Also, my dog was partially groomed and I wasn't charged but I would not let Quinton wash my car much less touch my dog again. read more

I have taken my pet dog to the Petco Germantown location several times for a range of grooming services. My experience thus far has been quite positive. The employees have taken good care of my dog, and performed services as expected. The only reason I have not given five stars is that the groomers are expected to perform a quick health evaluation of your pet when you check them in but that rarely happens. I cannot really speak to the rest of the store as I usually know what I want and also know where to find it in the store. read more

Where do I start... Never can find an employee to assist you (that's because most of them are out front on smoke breaks)! I've asked for a manager a couple of times now to express my concerns, "wasn't available". The Public Restroom is beyond NASTY( I have pictures to prove it) I was very interested in a bird, but the sales lady said I could not hold it because it BITES!! Whenever I enter a Petco, I am never greeted and not one single employee takes the time to ask me if I need help. Prices and availability are only worth it if you shop online. The stores are always a mess and they do not maintain their small animal and fish habitats. The only reason they get 2 stars is because of their supply of cheap fish tank stands. Ok...So I rarely write reviews and unfortunately I'm one of those people who only says something if its REALLY good, or REALLY bad. And so...ITS REALY BAD. I went there on Saturday. These are usually large stores with multiple departments and special interest areas. There were 2 associates...thats it! Neither of which knew a daggon thing about anything other than the register. I understand the need for cheap labor to increase profits, but for the love of god find some young kids who actually have a dog, or a fish. It's not hard. I should recommend some forums for Petco to recruit from... While browsing the fish tanks I noticed a small issue...THEY WERE RUNNING OUT OF WATER! There were bubbles from the pumps everywhere. I know this takes longer than a few hours to occur. The teenager came by and moved me out of the way to 'give em some water.' There were dead fish all over. I bought some snails and crabs to save them from that awful place. I wish I had another tank so I could buy all their livestock and sabotauge their system so they can't kill anything else for a few bucks. Been getting my dog groomed here for about 5 years. My previous groomer moved away so i started using the next person who had been there the longest. Ameris. She did great with my dog and was also very friendly. Went to the grooming area a few weeks ago to schedule appointment with her and the women there said she no longer works there and refused to give me any of her info (which I can understand) but this women was so rude. Asked to speak with manager and she told me she was the manager. I left without speaking to anyone else as I was just so disappointed in this place I used to love. My girlfriend who also takes her dog to Ameris said she had the same issue when she went. She refused to leave her dog Zoey there as she didn't trust anyone there. Thankfully we have found our groomer and she is able to still groom them but someone needs to do customer service training with these people especially the managers. Not going back. Will purchase my food from Petsmart as they are cheaper read more
