Today I worked with Dr. Kapil and Melissa and they really went above and beyond to take care of my cat. I was worried about how my cat seems to get distressed when his nails get too long and brought him in for a trim. Melissa escalated my concerns to Dr. Kapil and he went out of his way to talk to me about my concerns and assure me it likely wasn't due to any other issues. He then took a moment to share some solutions for me to better care for my cat myself. I found this particularly impressive because I've seen other veterinarians in the area nickel and dime pets so much that they actually harm them. Dr. Kapil did the opposite: he valued the health of my cat so much that he proposed a solution that might make the clinic a little less money short-term (as I might be trimming my cats nails at home). This is a better business strategy in my opinion because this veterinarian's honesty and trustworthiness (which they routinely demonstrate) has secured my loyalty and I will likely be taking my pets here for years to come. It means the world to me to be able to take my fur babies to a place I trust. I highly recommend Kenhaven.

I am not being asked to write a review by the way. I rarely ever take time to do such things. Yet, I felt obligated to do so here, as I've been treated like a VIP since the first visit a year ago. This clinic came recommended from a close neighbor, when she heard where I had been taking Gracie. I'm not being hyperbolic at all when I say, it was the best choice for Gracie(my dog). She is still alive only from Dr. Harris and staff's care and expertise. Their prices seem to be a bit cheaper than other local vets, but the staff is what makes this place different. It is perfectly fitting that the vet is located inside a home(basement), as I've felt like I'm at home when I'm there. And in no way is it lacking in scope or ability to address your pets needs. You'll be blown away I'm almost certain by the enthusiasm of the front desk staff- and how punctual they are. I've never waited to be seen. Additionally, I am not sure if this is typical, but I was offered(donated) heart meds for my dog's chronic leaky heart valve. It's little things like that they practice to help both you and your pet. It's so rare to find a place that isn't only focused on the profit margin. I'm sure the other DVM's are wonderful, but I'm partial to Dr. Harris. She is direct(not rude), friendly and downright brilliant. Finding her and MSV has done a lot for me, my dog and my mental health.

We switched both of our cats to this place as we had heard good things from family and friends…read more The staff and doctors are wonderful and friendly. We took our cat in for her senior exam last year and after the results, our doctor discussed her coming in either in December or January of this year. We got an estimate for the scope of work in early December, which was $425. I called in early January, after the holidays, and the first available appointment that could meet our schedule was in February, and nobody told us that our cat needed to be medicated so they could get a good blood pressure reading. We had to reschedule and brought her in yesterday. The doctor was thorough and we chatted, and then I left and went to pay the bill. The bill was $756 and when I questioned it, the person checking me out just shrugged her shoulders. I got home, looked at the receipt with the breakdown and the estimate and things were added without our knowledge or consent. I then emailed them that I wanted our records after the blood work results were in as we were switching vets. Beware! **Update** I spoke with them and we agreed to a partial refund of what we suggested. The process was still very friendly and mutually respectful and I have updated this back to 4 stars. Just make sure you are read the estimate and make sure they stick to it or at least update you on why it needs to change. We are very upset we needed to switch vets as our cats loved/love it there but sadly it is out of principle.

Before I drop him off I am always able to check in with my groomer to discuss specifications for my dogs hair and any concerns I may be having. Once it's time to pick him up I am able to talk to the groomer about any concerns she may have such as tangles, dryness or problem areas. The staff are always flexible with scheduling and I appreciate being able to book my next appointment during checkout if my current appointment, but also being able to change it if the need arises. I will continue to bring my dog for services here.

I seem to come across vets of two extremes: the "anything at all costs" vet, and the hands off, "whatever" vet, and my experience with NAC is more of the former which can be a good and bad thing. When I was treating elderly diabetic cat he was able to diagnose our cat with diabetes within our first visit which was a RELIEF because it was something that I suspected but was brushed off by more than two other vets. Now here comes the tricky part- I felt pressure to treat my cat because "there are options" but I believe treatment differs on a cat by cat basis. We did our research and were aware of the possible outcomes for cats with diabetes. Diabetes treatment in cats is uncertain and from what I gathered would have just been uncertain torture for our cat. We had an old, irritable cat who HATED vets and would practically have a panic attack every time she was at the vet. Her sister from the same litter exhibited the exact same symptoms and had to be put down suddenly months before our diagnosis so from what we gathered her prospects where already grim. Monthly vet visits and shots just seem like hell for a cat that is even temperamental about being touched. We believed we had her best interest in heart and decided to put her down. We were able to follow through with our decision but not without a bit of a guilt trip. I understand vets have the training and experience that I do not as a cat owner, but when it comes to ethics it's not about passively nodding your head to the doctor and submitting. It's about looking out for your loved ones and making the hard decisions; I staunchly believe that quality of life trumps longevity. I will still seek treatment from NAC for my second cat and I believe they care about our pet(s), but I would like to highlight the need for pet owners to advocate for their pets when it comes to ethical decisions.

We brought our beloved dog here when he was incredibly weak, feverish, and could barely walk…read more Despite his obvious condition, the technician wanted to weigh him. The scale wasn't in the room, and they made my poor, sick dog walk a very long distance through other rooms the hall until the doctor--who was very nice--rightfully intervened, said, "Let's not walk this weak dog anymore," and laid him down right there. After two X-rays and bloodwork, it was clear his kidneys and liver were failing, and he was dehydrated. It was time to say goodbye.Unfortunately, the compassion shown by the doctor did not carry over into how the technicians handled the initial euthanasia process. The doctor was not in the room when it started. Instead, two young female technicians propped my dog up vertically to try and insert a large needle into the top of his leg. When that failed, they began shaving his other legs to try again. I asked why it would work on the other legs when it failed on the first, especially given how dehydrated he was. I will never forget the pitiful, painful look on my dog's face as he gazed up at me while they repeatedly tried to push that large needle into his vein. I told them we were taking him to the car so he could at least feel like he was going home, as he loved car rides. The staff apologized and said the doctor would come out and use a "butterfly" needle. It turns out the butterfly needle is a tiny, far less painful option. The doctor came out to the car, and while our dog laid calmly in our laps, the doctor expertly inserted the tiny needle so we could hold him as he passed. Why the technicians didn't immediately use the smaller, less painful butterfly needle--or why the doctor wasn't the one guiding the procedure from the very beginning--is beyond me. To top off a highly painful and unnecessarily traumatic situation, the final bill came out to over $700. Charging that much for two X-rays, bloodwork, and a botched, agonizing final moment is completely excessive. While I appreciate the doctor's kindness and quick action in the car, the lack of empathy and competence from the technicians during my dog's final moments left us heartbroken.

Dr. Lowenthal and Kelly are skilled and empathetic, offering sweet, gentle dog-centric care. If your dog just needs shots, heartworm test, etc. you can save money by an appointment with one of their nurses - nice touch! I feel lucky to have found Woodley Gardens Veterinary - thanks to other Yelpers and neighbors on Nextdoor who recommended it.
