Update: Below is my original review. I am updating because I have noticed some positive changes in recent months and wanted to give the Petco staff credit. I have noticed in the last few months that there are more employees on the floor during regular hours than in the past. Lines at the register are shorter and it's easier to find someone to help you. I have also noticed that the staff seems friendlier and smile more. _____________________________________________________________ I wish this were a PetSmart!!! I have lived in one of the bordering neighborhoods of this complex all my life and I've shopped here only because I had too. It's expensive, which other stores are too... The selection and coupon deals are average. I had to buy diapers for my dog... Yeah I know, stop judging! She was in heat! I got a two pack for $20, but only found one diaper in there when I opened up the package when I got home. I used to have lizards and could not get crickets here.... They were all out, EVERY TIME! Had to drive super far to PetSmart. The worst part about this store is the service. For the last 15 years, maybe more, this store has been understaffed and it is damn near impossible to get any help with fish, rodents, etc. Good luck! I hope management reads this review because they need help! I hate to drive so far away to get my pet supplies but I'll keep doing it if this Petco doesn't shape up. read more

Went in yesterday, and Beth and Ryan were so pleasant and helpful. I have noticed that this store is looking much cleaner and in stock. Everyone is very knowledgeable and Ryan gave me a few ideas that I didn't think of and not only saved me money but made the cleaning of my reptile cages easier. I'm not a big fan of Petco or Petsmart, but, despite some disappointments, I'd have to say this is one of the best I've seen. My friend and I came in at around 1:30pm (not by any means early) and it seemed that, in the fish department, they were just opening up. All the lights were off, the tanks were open (so you couldn't see into half of them). Slightly frustrating, but we got our kicks off of looking at the other displays (bird, small animal, reptile, etc). They have a great selection of betta fish, more than I've seen in most stores. One complaint: the bowls of a couple of the bettas seemed to not have been cleaned for awhile... I ended up buying one of these said bettas and asking them to put it in a new bowl- I didn't want my fish in that filth a second longer! Their displays for all the other areas, however, seemed pretty nice and organized. Dear Yelp Journal, I recently helped my friend purchase dog food for her pets, as we were in the aisles, the shelves were dusty and it seemed as if the store was somewhat disorganized. However, we did receive a coupon in the mail which they honored for the specific dog food she needed. The store seemed to be lacking employees on staff to help customers in the fish dept. But overall, we were able to get what we wanted and leave without any fuss. Although, I hope next time the staff would be more enthusiastic in showing the pets and helping its customers. read more

This Petco is walking distance from where I live and since we have a dog and a bearded dragon it makes it easier! I take my bearded dragon always with me when I come here and the people who work here love our bearded dragon Spike! The employees are always really friendly and really helpful. (If you can find any employees!) that's the only thing that bothers me, sometimes I have to wait forever for a employee to show up in the store. And don't buy wax worms here, or check them throughly.. A lot of times half of them were already dead. read more

This guy loves this Petco! I love the knowledgable friendly staff. From treats to grooming and everything in between! My tip: ask questions about the products you buy, even tho Petco has an amazing return policy for certain items, do take that extra minute and ask for assistance. This is a nice little Petco around here. The staff here are really nice and well known on the products they carry. For a little store, they carry quite a few products for any pet you have at home. One complaint I have about this place is how outdated it looks inside. Once you walk in you will notice how outdated it looks. Lighting is a bit dim and the floors look old. If they are able to change these things around then this place would be so enjoyable to go to and be more lively inside.... read more

HORRIBLE customer service at this store. I am set up for online repeat orders. However, I had excess product this particular time and wanted to return a couple of items. I gave the guy at the counter (my bad for not getting his name). He couldn't locate the order number so said he couldn't process my return. I said I had the print out for items purchased and a tracking number for delivery. I don't why the order number was not included. He didn't offer any solutions (ie. exchange, store credit, etc.) just spoke over me stating this is store policy. I left frustrated and cancelled all future repeat orders. I also reviewed all 7 emails regarding this repeat order (order scheduled, order on the way, order delivered, tell us how we did) and NONE of the emails referenced an order number. I had to call the 877 general number to get the order number. I will now go to a different Petco store to handle my return and then shop at Centinela Pet Supply or Pet Supply in Fountain Valley going forward. They tend to be more helpful. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service! Waited for over 15 minutes because my son wanted one goldfish and absolutely nobody would help. I spoke with an employees who kept saying they would call somebody over to help and nobody ever came. Finally left with my son incredibly disappointed. If you're looking for Annie Martinez the groomer she works at Salon De Pawz in HB! I was disappointed when told she wasn't with Petco anymore and didn't recognize anyone in grooming. A man came up to me in the parking lot saying he overheard me asking for Annie in the store and knows where she works! I'm so happy! Annie groomed my 2 dogs and 1 cat years ago before I moved and she's such a fantastic groomer! He gave me her card, so I'll be calling her for an appointment. The store seems cleaner than I remember, so that is good. The staff were either way too enthusiastic about greeting me or ignored me all together. I didn't buy anything. I really only went in looking for Annie and I'm so thankful that guy was around to fill me in. read more

My little schnoodle was sprayed by a skunk at 3 am and I was desperate for help.! I called PetCo after spending hours bathing him in baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. I was lucky to get an appointment with Amanda who treated him to a gentle and thorough 'spa' day and he looks better than he has in a long time and smells great !! We just became dog owners and are new to taking care of a pet. We went in and were overwhelmed with dog food choices. An employee by the name of Jason had assisted us. He was EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the store's products and helped us with some choices for our breed. He didn't try and Upsell or have us buy just anything. My girlfriend and I love to check out the clearance racks at any and all Petco locations. We have had nothing but the best experiences at the locations on Westminster Ave and Culver Drive. The experience here however, was quite unpleasant. When we walked in, the older, female manager on duty, (I didn't catch her name) was preoccupied with 4 teenage boys in the store. She followed them around the store just waiting for them to steal something. (Apparently it's guilty until proven innocent in her book.) They did not steal anything and were actually quite respectful to other customers and employees in the store. Anywho, we found a dog jacket we liked on the clearance rack and proceeded to purchase it, unfortunately there was no tag on it. At other Petco locations, the manager would make a judgment call, price it and sell it. This was an item from Christmas, mind you. You would think she would have wanted it sold. But nope, she disappeared into her office for, I kid you not, half an hour researching the price!! When she finally came out, she didn't apologize for taking so long, and informed us she could not sell it to us because she couldn't find the price!! Ridiculous! She said we would have to come back the next day when the manager Roger was working, and he would be the only one able to sell it to us. Worst experience ever! Not only did you lose out on a sale, but you were just plain cranky lady! Stay clear of this location, it's small, expensive and the customer service was horrible! read more

We got a new puppy (a little Maltipoo) and we have been coming to this Petco for puppy classes. The people here are very friendly and helpful. There seems to be a small community of regular shoppers that know each other and bring their dogs into the store. The puppy 1 class is great and our trainer Cassandra is very good with our dog. Slowly our disobedient puppy is turning into a respectable canine citizen. Thanks Petco for all your help!! read more

Stopped at this Petco to pick up a new flexi leash on the way to the dog beach. The store reeked of urine. I pity the poor animals there, clearly their cages are not being cleaned regularly. The women's restroom was disgusting - it looked and smelled like it never gets cleaned at all. I would never buy any unpackaged food from this store - treats, rawhide, etc. The shelves appeared poorly stocked and no one offered to help us. Terrible... Waited to be helped with the fish for about 10 minutes and were never met with help. I went to the cashier and waited in line to ask for help. Ken the cashier then paged over the intercom for help in aquatics. I waited another 5-10 minutes and nobody came... My girlfriend and I had somewhere to be so we left. When we walked out the door Ken was still at the front counter helping no one, texting on his phone. Best part was, he was so oblivious and involved with his iPhone he didn't even realize we left. After my girlfriend and I ran our next errand we went to Petsmart and bought a whole new fish tank and everything. read more

If I could give one star I would. My boyfriend and I bought a ball python from them about a month ago, and we were mislead to the max. We were told he was a year old, come to find out, he is only 2 months old...sooo wrong because you need to feed them more and they require more care when they are younger. We went in today.....I was forced against my will, lol....there was a VERY SICK baby bearded dragon in the tank with 3 heathy ones, when I told one of the workers, he said he knew already....well do something about it idiot!!!! My crappy neighbor introduced fleas into our community, big time. Since Petco is close I shopped there. I actually got some help, real help. I cleaned up my apartment, only to have the community reintroduce fleas a few days later. I returned to Petco and again they were helpful. I asked the manager what happened, as obviously there is a big change in attitude and helpfulness. Also they got rid of the crappy cashiers they had. He confided in me that "corporate" got involved. I guess the bad reviews, influenced this change. Now they are both nice and helpful, and I noticed some items are placed on sale from time to time. What a turnaround. read more

Janette is wonderful. She's a patient trainer. Very positive reinforcement oriented. She's helped my dog come so far in such a short time and really understands dog behavior. FIVE STARS JANETTE! The only reason for the loss of a star is for the puppy playtime on Sunday. It was awful. Tim wouldn't let the dogs meet. He picked one up for a tiny growl instead of letting the puppies get back to play (which they started to until he picked it up). He gated a dog alone so it wasn't scared? Dude, it was wagging it's tail the whole time. He handed a 25lb dog to me over the fence. So one dog could go in the play area alone. People weren't allowed in. It was the weirdest experience I've ever had. I will ONLY be going if Janette is there. Take your dogs on Saturday people! It's way better. read more

This Petco is a standout for one reason in my mind which is.....they price match crickets!!!' Woohoo! About 10 months ago I mentioned how expensive their crickets were compared to the reptile shop and the manager informed me they price match crickets! I have panther chameleons and they prefer the crickets from Petco compared to the type that the reptile stores carry. Combine it with a close location to my house and the rest is history! read more

This review is for kassandra (dog trainer)! We brought our boxer puppy to puppy 1 training class. She did such a great job engaging each puppy and taught us fun ways to train our pup!! It was great as a new dog owner to understand how important positive reinforcement is and how well our dog responds to it! We had so much fun learning and playing! Very disgusted with their customer service and manager. I have been taking my Boston Terrier (15 lbs) in there for the past two years for grooming. They have charged me $20.to $23. Today they charged me $35. The manger came and told me she falls in same catagory as Shar Paie. She stated they have been undercharging me all these times. I tried to reason with her and she would not budge. Finally got disgusted and told her I would not be back. Very bad customer service. I brought my Dog today to get groomed. This is the second time my dog has been here he's 6 months old. The first time the did a "puppy groom" which is bs they just want your money. This time i showed Cassidy a picture of my dogs sister and how I wanted him groomed. First off, I never gave consent for them to shave my dog. I received a call about 30 mins after dropping him off that I needed to come pick him up. My poor dog was half shaved. They stated he was so matted that he needs to go to a vet to be put to sleep and shaved. My husband picked him up and Cassidy began to tel him let me introduce you to our Vet. Why so you can make more damn money! They have no clue what they are doing and they abused my dog. Cassidy even had the nerve to ask my husband about the food he is eating! Why so you can take our money more! I have taken my other dog here and never had an issue I've never had Cassidy as a groomer but clearly she doesn't know what she is doing and shouldn't be touching peoples dogs! My dog was only matted a little bit and scissors could of taken care of it. DONT TAKE YOUR DOGS here! read more

A new girl from South Carolina was at the register. Great personality, quick, and on the ball.
