i never leave reviews but this is the first time i have felt like i needed to. my dog has been going to this grooming for the last couple years and always loved going. but the last couple visits it seemed to be going downhill. the best groomers left so there isn't many of them left. i came in today with my dog a couple minutes for her haircut and bath and the groomer already had a bad attitude. an hour and 15 minutes later i get a call from the groomer saying i need to pick my dog up because as she just went to start her and noticed she had thrown up in her kennel. so they had left her sitting in there for OVER an hour after her appointment was supposed to start !? i was not happy to say the least. we went to get her and shared our frustration and the groomer could not have cared less. the manager, jesse, was also difficult and was intentionally giving us minimal information and did not give her last name and said she was not required to do so. my dog is very well trained and has never had a problem at the groomer, but i am not shocked at all that she threw up, probably over stress from being in a kennel for that long. won't be coming back. also the groomer intentionally did not come out when we came to pick up my dog. she was supposedly on break. sounds more like she was hiding in the back because that was the time she should have been working on my dog. read more

This is my go to Pet supply store. The store is always clean and staff is friendly. Tonight the cashier I believe his name is Dylan was great. He was very friendly and made conversation with every customer. Appreciated the friendly service and of all the times I have shopped there it was the first time the cashier took the extra initiative to make conversation and show interest. read more

This has been my home store for almost 4 years, I wanted to leave a yelp review, because in a few weeks time I will be transferring out to another state to be a groomer over there. I've gone though so much from this store, a lot of memoires, and I'm happy I was a part of this team. The year started off rocky up until now, We had a full grooming salon, and we were doing great, building relationships with clients, and we opened a low cost shot clinic on the weekends to help people raise their animals healthy. But up until march, the salon lost 3 groomers. And it's been an honest struggle since. But with only 2 of us, we're working as hard as we can to get everyone's dogs in. I'm very proud of the Salon manager, Ethan. He's come a long way and he's a great groomer. We've tried borrowing people from other stores to help out, but they just didn't work out. Which caused Angry clients and reschedule dogs on top of booked dogs. We do apologize for the inconvenience, And we try not to take on more than we can handle back there. Some customers are understanding, others are not. But We try our best everyday to make the store and the salon a positive experience for you as a customer and your pet. I enjoy helping clean tanks and cages and helping the managers administer medication for animals who aren't feeling well. the animals are fed/cleaned 2-3 times a day by the staff. I enjoy giving food conversion options, vitamins, and toy recommendations for new puppies that come in. When we used to have dog adoption events my ex roommate and I even fostered a pup for a few months until she found a home. We also offer dog training and even have 50% off sales sometimes, which is a great deal! We now have cat adoptions, and they're going fast! which makes me so happy!! I've worked for a lot of stores but Irvine will always be my home. I do hope in the future, they're able to hire/train a bunch of groomers and get that business booming again. I've met such wonderful caring clients over the years, and I'm thankful for every one. I will miss this store and the friends and co workers I've made over the years. There's been tons of great changes since the new District manager has come aboard, I look forward to checking back in now and then to see what changes have taken place. I'll miss this store. i went in right after getting my new puppy and as soon as i got to an isle a friendly employee helped me. They took me around the whole story picking out from collars to bed to food, everything that i needed. They were so nice and helpful i will definitely be going back. read more

I have been to way too many pet stores searching for certain useful (or less useful) things for my dogs. This Petco is one of the cleanest and nicest Petcos that i have been to. It is organized and they have a nice big selection of everything. I called another Petco that did not have the dog food i wanted in stock, and they sent me here. Man, they had all three sizes AND it was on sale. Sweet! They also had lots of free treats and samples with a Natual Balance rep. that was walking around. Good deals, friendly staff, 'buy ten get one free bag of food'- program... Good opening hours. All-around great place to shop for stuff for the pups. Nice. read more

I love pet stores but the staff here was not welcoming. I walked in and was not greeted, offered help, or communicated with in any sense by staff. When I walked up, a tall, thin, mousy woman (maybe 40) in a red shirt started scanning the dog food I was purchasing without even saying hello. You can always tell when you walk into a pet store how well the animals are cared for. It's clear that these are not, which makes me livid. Not everyone has a heart for animals and I understand that. But if you don't have the heart for them, don't put yourself in charge of any. I know this attitude goes all the way to the top, as every Petco I've ever been to is like this. I always hope I will find an exception, but so far they've all been sure to disappoint. From the deserted sales floor, to the filthy conditions for the animals, to the dead fish floating in the tanks, the store is consistent. And to top it off, their prices can barely be considered competitive. Someday I'll learn and stop ruining my day by walking through the doors of Petco stores. read more

My two Maltese were in need of a haircut for summer, so I took them here - first time! I'll definitely be back. I worked with two male associates who were great. Even though my dogs were barking like crazy with separation anxiety when I dropped them off, they were handled very well and calmed down once I left. Took about 90 minutes for both dogs. Cut is exactly what I wanted - short all over (it's too hot outside for them to have a thick coat!) but longer tail and ears. I've had bad experiences at other groomers where my dogs come home scared and shaking - not this place! They're both happy and smiling today! read more

I come here around 3x month for my dog and cat food, treats, and toys. Always clean and large selection of everything. Their return policy is great, it took me a few times to learn what my pittmix could destroy in under 30 seconds. I had my pups nails filed in their grooming dept. once and they seemed to do a good job, even though she is very squirmy. I think it cost like $10. My only complaint is that they do not sell premium flea treatment in single doses. I've been coming here since I was a very small child and will for as long as I reside in irvine. I love the staff at this store. When I first adopted my dog, two staff members took me around the store and made sure I had all the necessary essentials. When Lola started displaying signs of separation anxiety, someone took the time to show me the best alternatives for her and taught me how to introduce the crate into our routine. The grooming staff upon learning of her abusive background took extra care to be gentle with her and watched for noise sensitivity. Turns out she was scared of certain grooming equipment in the beginning and after several visits, she handles them like a champ. They are knowledgeable about food allergies and sensitivities, their products, and take the time to help you find what works best for your furbaby. I couldn't ask for better customer service. The people at this Petco care and if you take the time to know them, you'll find out for yourself. read more

I went here and bought some treats for the dogs. My dog didn't eat the next day and I did some research. PetCo continues to sell the tainted treats made in China by Nestle, Purina Pet Care Corp. and Del Monte Corp that have killed hundreds of dogs. Don't shop here. Petco groomers always do such a great job on our baby Chula & always answer any questions we may have. Chula loves being pampered there.

This is one of the only petco locations in the area that offers vaccine clinics every Sunday from 4 to 6 PM. The doctor, Dr. Moore. who does the vaccinations is very friendly and compassionate towards animals. This is a large petco location and they always have what I need. My last time here there was one cashier open and there was a line, and another cashier opened up right away which was great service. On the weekends they have local rescue groups there with their pets available for adoption. read more

Used to LOVE this store for their free puppy play sessions on Thursday and Sundays, but they recently changed their rules to say that only two puppies can play at a time...and only for eight minutes!!! This is a shame because they used to let the puppies play in a large group for an entire hour which was much better for properly socializing them. Their grooming department is terrible! My dog was still damp when I picked him up, last time, they only cut one of his thumb nails, they called and left a message saying if he wasn't picked up with in an hour they charge boarding fees and the best part... I paid $30 for a deshedding treatment which they obviously did not do. When I got home I noticed he was shedding a lot, so I ran a brush over him. In one pass it was totally full, then I spent the next 10 minutes brushing him and it filled up the trash can. Waste of money to pay them for something they obviously did not do. Never taking my dog here again! Which is disappointing because I've always taken him to petco, along with past dogs and they normally did a great job. read more

I had to get all new stuff for my tarantula and the staff was unbelievably helpful. One of the guys searched and climbed all the way to the top of the product shelf for a 20G tank I was looking for and even carried it out to my car before I had the chance to even ask for assistance. I had to come back the next day to exchange the substrate I bought and another item from a previous purchase that I didn't have a receipt for. Not only did a super nice gal take back the item without a receipt, but she even credited my card back instead of the usual store credit!! Super nice and helpful employees... Beware of ordeing online - customer service. Ordered product (2 bags of dog food) from website for pickup in store - note that when you order from the website for store pickup, the website requires that the product is available at the desired store - and requires to pay online as well. However, when I arrived at the store, I was informed that they did not have one of the bags of dog food and that I should receive an email confirmation of the credit. So now it gets more interesting ... I did not receive the email confirmation of the credit, so I called customer service. I was placed on hold for ~ 15 min so hung up and tried again later. Next call, I was on on again for ~15 min, then was connected with a support representative. I explained my situation, then ws asked a series of questions, each time put on hold for 5 - 10 minutes ... and after over 50 minutes, I was disconnected and my isuue ws still unresovled. I attempted to call back and again placed on hold so opted to call the next morning. Called again the next morning, and after being placed on hold for ~5 min, was assisted by a representative and was quickly told my credit card would be credited and I will receive an email confirmation of the credit. After waiting ~10 hrs, still no email confirmation, so I called back customer service ... was placed on hold for ~30 min before a representative answered. After a couple of initial questions, she acknowledged that I should receive a credit - however the amount did not include the tax amount applied in the purchase. She was adament that I was not charged tax - even after several min convincing her to check the online system requires the cuztomer to pay tax on each order, which she confirmed through her own experince that a tax is applied to the order, she insisted that I was charged a tax ... all this total of ~60 min on the phone. Finally I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she said they have already gone home for the day ... to which I asked what time the Supervisors work until, at the time on the phone was within their working hours. At that point I finally gave up ... never again, customer lost. read more

I went here for 13 years to have my dogs groomed, prior dogs and current. Recently back to back we had to horrible experiences since Sarah left. The current manager Ethan is not manager material he is not able to go above and beyond for long time customers to make you happy, he seems to not care. First, he cut our dogs ears uneven and was really stressed out due to they have NO help there and he is the only groomer. They can't seem to hire experienced groomers only kids out of school they are training. We decided after 13 years we would go back and give them another chance. I got our shots at PETCO and they updated the system, when I went in the info was missing. HE called VETCO to get the shots and instead of getting a hold of a live person said sorry I can't reach them it says go online on the message so I cant take your dog and that was it???? Not let me get a hold of someone and fix this. I am going to petsmart after 13 years read more

There were bugs in the rabbit food. I wouldn't have known this if one of the employees hadn't pointed it out to us. He was really helpful, he gave us some tips on what to feed our bunny. The groomers at the Petco on Culver near the 99 ranch market are terrific. They take good care of my dog and are very gentle and they do all the nails and ears and trim and the dog goes in without any problems at all. I highly recommend the groomers at the Petco on Culver in Irvine. read more

This place stinks and the poor animals that they sell here=[ This Petco accused me of stealing please read this!!!! I want to give no stars to this place..i have been going to Petco for like 12 years. I did not know any better so i always just went to this store. I like that they have a lot to choose from and convenient.. The staff in not knowledgeable they are just tossed in after training and are like zombies. A problem i had with this store Is I tried to return a dog collar and had the receipt for it. They refused to exchange it so i asked to speak with manager. (Rob the manager) Who then accused me of Stealing the collar ... ..WoW i been shopping here for so long and to be treated like this. i returned the next day ..i could not get a manager for a week .i was told he just went home for the day but it was like 330Pm . i came back 3 more times and each time was told the manager had just left. (Wow if u don't like to work to much petco manager is the job for you,or if your assistant manager which is robs job you get worked like a dog) finally I called a corporate office to talk to someone since i could get another manager at the store. I told them about the run around i got, and i told them that its not good customer service to accuse customers of stealing when they are trying to return something and can provide a receipt....He explained that there was alot of theft going on in the stores (so they gonna accuse all the customers of stealing now? ) and he said that employees do go to a course for customer service and basically due to cut backs have not been in some stores. .Ya tell me about it!!!!!! ..When a manager is telling me i stole a +25 dollar collar and i had a folder filled with my last couple months receipts from that crummy store . Every time I have been to this location, all of the staff have been very helpful. I feel like the staff really know their products and offer great recommendations. Yea... don't get fish here... I was looking for new fish for my tank and found a good 11 tanks with fish that had red stringy things coming from out of their butt... These are very VERY BAD. These are called callamarus. They are nematodes that eat away the fish from the inside. Once you see them protruding from the fish, this means they are laying eggs in the tank. Which means all life in the tank, be it your prized 80 dollar fish is now infected and will die in 2 weeks. The only way to kill these is cattle de-wormer. Which is expensive and can only be bought from cattle farms... I had about 300 bucks worth of fish die on me... Fortunately I had past experience about these pests and walked out as soon as I saw how bad it was in this Petco... Even if they get rid of all their fish that are infected, the eggs and worms live in the gravel and will infect the new fish. No other meds work... read more
