Recent visit 04-28-26. Went in for their walk-in services while I had the day off. Was able to get assistance immediately. Even though they were busy with some appointments or other walk-ins, my chihuahua Honey was able to receive service quickly. I purchased the Mini Make-Rover Plus and received an additional $5 off. My total came out to about $21. The stylist was finished in about 10 mins. She did a good job with clipping her nails but I believe she may have forgotten to buff them. All in all, I recommend their walk-in services if you can't or don't want to book an appointment. read more

No stars deserved!!!!!!! I visited this pet store to pick up a few items for my dog. When I approached the checkout, there was no one else in line. The cashier finished with her previous customer but said nothing to me -- no "next," no acknowledgment whatsoever. All she did was look at me and stated. Not wanting to be presumptuous, I politely asked if she was ready for me. Her response was dismissive and had an unnecessary attitude. "You're next in line, right?" Is what she said. I was blown away that she felt she can talk to me that way. When I calmly pointed out that she didn't need to be rude, the situation escalated quickly. She became loud and confrontational -- even getting into my personal space -- all while another customer was present. I asked if someone else could assist me and was told she was the only one available. I kept my composure throughout, but her behavior was completely unacceptable for a customer-facing role. I left without wanting to return. Management should be aware that this type of treatment is driving customers away. I will not be coming back to this location. This place has definitely gone downhill and it's clear they don't care about their customers or the pets! Buyer beware!!! read more

I received my most recent subscription order of Advantix for my dog of 12 years on 9/8/2025. Which was a sad delivery because my dog of 12 years had passed away on 8/24/2025 and I completely forgot of this subscription. At this time I noticed that I hadn't even opened the subscription from 7/7/2025 (still in its shipped packaging) and thought to my self "let me bring this as well since I did not use it and sadly do not have a use for it, and Petco can still sell this with no problem since it's still sealed inside the box it was shipped in." I arrived at the store and provided both packages and order receipts for the items. I opened up and shared with the cashier that my dog had passed away and even shared a photo of him because he was a big part of my life. This is my first time doing a return at Petco so I did not have the policies nailed down. The most recent return was refunded but the return from 7/7/2025 was rejected since I was 2 days past the 60 day window. I asked if she could contact a manager and see if due to the circumstance if there can be some leniency. The manager came over, did not acknowledge my presence at all. The cashier told her "he's past the 60 days" and the manager just jumped to approving store credit. I then mentioned the circumstance since the cashier did not and said "I don't have a use for the item or store credit anymore because my pet passed away." And the manager didn't even acknowledge what I had just shared and went to the next register. I then told the cashier "can you mention to your manager that I can't use the store credit" and the cashier said, "why can't you use the store credit?" Then my wife chimed in and said "because our only dog passed away..." Then the cashier said "you can give it to a family member or friend." Completely missing the point and the gaping hole of a loss we have in our lives right now. I never associated PETCO with not caring about pets until this simple experience and how it could have simply been an amazing customer service moment or a small price item that PETCO could/will sell. Examples of Great Customer Service from pet companies: When I canceled future subscriptions to BARK.CO. They went the extra mile to refund a shipment from 2 months ago without me even asking just to show how much they care and understand the cost incurred from a loss of a pet. $40.00 for an item they can't sell again. When I called OLLIE (fresh food for dogs) about a shipment I just received that day for him. They refunded me and told me to donate the food or give it to a family member with dogs to try. $109 for food they can't sell again. When I called PetLab Co (probiotic chews) because they charged my card the day after my dog had passed and had already shipped it. They refunded me and told me to donate/share the chews. $95 they can't sell again. 3 examples of companies that showed compassion that are WAY SMALLER companies in the pet industry in comparison. When I was simply returning an item that PETCO could sell again. PETCO made me feel like transactional number that was worth losing and has turned me from a customer into an advocate against the company. And do not reply with reiterating the policy. There are certain scenarios that supersede a policy and compassion during the loss of a best friend that should warrant a second look not a brush off and move on. read more

We have been taking our yorkies to Petco groomers for years , Frida used to handle them with care. We had an appointment today and we just told the manager to handle our yorkie with care on her throat and she assumed she had a collapsed trachea which she does not and explained to her that our yorkie has no trachea problems and she denied our services. We could not believe this after we have been taking her here for years and were happy with the previous groomers now they are gone. Sadly they have lost a good customer as this was our to go place. Lost my trust. My dog kept scratching himself after getting groomed a few days ago. Then I started to comb and de shredded him. And see what I found Ton of his coat picture attached. I couldn't believe what the groomer (named Wacharee) said ohhh it's hard to get him to stay still. And why did you charge me for the premium VIP service when you couldn't do your job? She probably thought that my dog can't tell on her so she can do whatever she wants with him. Stay away from this place. Petco has lost my trust since. I was very upsetting when visiting this Petco yesterday. I was browsing around when I got to the mice, and realized one seemed to not be doing well. I went up to the register and told a worker named Teddi about the issue the mice seemed to be having. I told her one of the mice was laying down and seemed to be in pain, and possibly dying. She told me she would tell someone to check on them. I browsed around for another 20 minutes or so and realized Teddi never told anyone to go check on the mice, as when I came back it sadly had passed away. The body was not twitching anymore, and had gone limp. I told another worker and they told me they would take care of the mice. I made a grooming appointment for my puppy and because it was his first time I needed to bring his vaccinations records. Because I got my puppy from a breeder the booklet she gave me has the stickers which have the name of the vaccines and the dates. Petco in Lakewood California would not accept these vaccines because they are not vaccinated records from a veterinarian. When my appointment was made for 7:00am , the person should have advised me what type of vaccinations records are required for Petco. I took my puppy to a veterinarian today and they did advise that these records are acceptable. Just know there are other pet retail stores that offer grooming that will accommodate your pet if their vaccinations weren't done my a veterinarian. read more

A little empathy and understanding go a long way, and the staff here, especially Karina, really demonstrated that today. This was an awesome experience for someone in the disabled community. I bring my dog here for Vetco vaccines. I had made an appointment but didn't realize there was a second confirmation step required. When I arrived, I was told I'd have to make a new appointment or accept a curbside one. I explained that I have some disabilities which made this process difficult and inaccessible. The staff truly heard me out and were able to make an immediate accommodation, ensuring my dog's care wasn't impacted by my needs. They were also kind enough to suggest I check the app to confirm appointments in the future. Overall, I am very happy with the way me and my pet were treated and the care we received. read more

There is one brand of kibble toppers that my dog eats and I can only find at petco. Anytime I come to buy them they have the aisle they are in blocked off. What makes it more frustrating is there is no employee in sight to help out move the stuff or get the item for you. Our (being a new cat owner) our Kitty really needed a cut. I was a little nervous since this was going to be his first grooming. I was told by the staff that I needed to 5 min.... It's a big Petco, great lighting, bright inside, Friendly staff, organized, clean (you may see an occasional pee accident, just alert the staff), aisles and aisles of food options, treats, cleaning supplies, flea prevention, leashes, toys, etc. There are reptiles, fresh water fish, feeder fish, Guinea pigs, mice, parakeets, sometimes cats for adoption. I took my husky here yesterday and paid extra for de-shedding. As you can see by the video, it clearly did absolutely nothing. The extra price was a complete scam. If the groomer put in the slightest of effort I wouldn't be able to pull out complete clumps. If I wanted these results I would've taken my husky to a self-wash place for 1/5 the price. This is the third time I've taken my husky here and got the same results. Each time I've take him here I've tried a different groomer, hoping for better, but always end up disappointed. The receptionist had me waiting 30 minutes before telling me my appointment had been cancelled. She had black hair and blue scrubs. She kept saying it wasn't her fault and insinuated it was mine because I called the number that called me to confirm my appointment instead of the number that the number that called me left in my voicemail??? Like ok??? That doesn't make sense. but it was your fault that you told me to have a seat and wait for a room to be available for 30 minutes! Her excuse was that she thought I said Sandy instead of Salmon. Ma'am why aren't you not confirming Last Name and First Name??? Well sandy obviously wasn't here so why couldn't she just put me in her slot??? Honestly it felt like she was being lazy and didn't want to help me. I work at a high volume clinic too and would never treat any of my patients this way. When working with pets and their parents EMPATHY is a huge part. She is completely lacking it. She was so rude, dismissive, and had an attitude. Normally I allow people to treat me however they want and brush it off but I waited 30 minutes in that waiting area with my sick cat getting stressed from all the barking and running from the dogs all for NOTHING. My cat is in even worse shape and I'm sure it's due to the stress. I'm probably going to have to take him to the emergency vet because of her. I've been to the Cerritos location and was met with nothing but kindness, empathy, and professionalism. I called them after this and they were able to accommodate me with an appointment first thing in the morning. Hopefully my baby recovers from the stress soon. This is a review for the vet clinic inside Petco. I came for a booster vaccine for my dog . I had already paid for this vaccine as part of the set up package. Today there was no consultation at all. My dog was taken inside by one of the techs. Then I was sent an authorization bill for $160. When I call the attention of another employee who was mopping, I asked to please call the attention of the technician who has sent the bill. She seemed bothered and said she could explain my bill. Then she made a correction and sent me a bill for $119. Once I told her again that I had already paid for the booster she went confused to the technician who had taken my dog. They talked among each other and left back inside without giving me an answer or any type of explanation. After a while I asked a different employee to please send the technician out. At this point the technician said that somehow when I purchased the package they gave my dog a vaccine without charge. And that's why now they had to charge me for the booster. This was a very unprofessional encounter that made me feel that they were just trying to take more money from me rather than honoring what I had already paid for. Keep in mind all this time they kept my dog hostage. I do not recommend this clinic or the Vital care program. I have been paying a monthly membership that provided no benefit at all. BTW. Took my baby here this past weekend. The girls and gentlemen in grooming were nothing but helpful. Busy yes! But understand it was Saturday. They took care of my bella and assured me that she would be in good hands. I do trust them. Petco Lakewood Grooming Service is terrible. They overbook dogs, take no notes, and do not listen to you when asking what you want done during check-in. Specifically, we witnessed groomer Giovanni pinning our dog down by the head to shave her and squeezing her legs while she yelped. This is all beside the fact that he SHAVED HER DOUBLE COAT when all we have ever asked for is a light trim of her hind legs and paws. When we confronted the groomer about hurting her, all he said was "there are a lot of dogs here." I would have rather been turned away than leave my dog there for FOUR HOURS in a cage just to have her shorn haphazardly and abused. Do not use this grooming service, we will never be returning again and we will be canceling all PetCo subscriptions. I hope that groomer loses his job, he clearly does not have the temperament to be working with animals. read more

Took my furry babies to Petco's grooming salon- upon arrival our pug Millie wiggled out of her collar and bolted out the front door into the parking lot at full speed. The exceptional reactions of three Petco employees saved Millie. Giovanni, Lynette and Brianna all ran after Millie without a second thought. They even had to stop traffic on Lakewood Blvd to finally grab her- they literally saved her life! January 5th is Millie's NEW BIRTHDAY!!! So grateful for these wonderful employees.... Never had an employee approached me either, a few times I did look like a deer on headlights hahaha. DONT TAKE YOUR DOG TO GET GROOMED HERE!! This was my dogs first time at this location. I usually take her to Cerritos but they are just so far booked out so settled for this one with a closer appt date. This is the first time she has been led in by a leash? Is this usual at petco? At the one in Cerritos I hand the dog to the groomer tail first and find that it is a much better transition for her.. she did not want to go in with the groomer trying to walk her in. Anyways about the cut. My dog has MULTIPLE RAZOR BURNS! She is a terripoo and has long fluffy fur. I said I wanted a summer cut to keep her cool and they insisted I get the second to shortest cut.. look at the pictures to see how she is cut, she also has razor burns on the back of her legs and her cut is extremely choppy! When I went to pick her up the groomer asked me if she has ever been groomed before.. umm with her being half poodle of course she's been groomed before, and frequently! She proceed to talk about my dogs behavior loudly with other customers around which I thought was rude. She said she accidentally clipped her ear with the thing that they use to clip them into the groomers helper? I don't know how that happens but I attached a pic of it. Then proceeds to tell me how my dog bit her. Yeah I'd bite you too when you clip me in the ear and are literally burning my body with the razor. This was her first time at this location with a new groomer she was obviously a little nervous and scared. But as a groomer of course they deem it as "aggression" Watching other dogs being picked up with f'd up haircuts I should of left but she needed to be groomed bad. Please hire people who know what they are doing, actually care about the dogs and are not just looking for a paycheck! read more

I don't even know where to start, -0000000 stars for THE GROOMING DEPARTMENT! I would like to know how they find these workers and if they go through any background check? For this type of work, you must LOVE animals and understand they have emotions. Having a 3-4 hour timeframe to groom a dog is unnacceptable, especially when you take walk ins over appointments in which you did in my case ? and then when I complained you charged me a VIP fee of $15.00 for all four of my dogs because you "say" you got them done super fast in over 2 hours? I spent over $300.00!! Dog 1 of 4: I was charged an extra $10 because he was getting a shorter shave, HE WASN'T EVEN SHAVED OR NOT EVEN TRIMMED, what did you do? His face, yes, but the body is the same. Dog 2 of 4: was shaved completely down , in this freezing weather, only to be told by my family that this is the ugliest hair cut they have ever seen (mind you, I have been grooming all four of my pups for the last 2 years and my work is impecable compared to todays rushed job) this is my one year old puppy that was diagnosed with meningitis and she has been acting strange every since I picked her up. She just wants to lay in her bed, very sad! I have her currently wearing 2 sweaters, wrapped in a blanket on my lap sitting in front of a heater. She is practically bald, this is unnacceptable. She has no appetite either!! and not interacting with the other dogs one bit. Dog 3 of 4: charged the same amount only to get sanitary cuts Dog 4 of 4: decent, but not worth $80.00 m(15.00 of it was this VIP charge). The workers, one I spoke to on the phone I think her name was "Lizzie" super cold and was appalled that I called asking when my dogs will be ready! Another guy there, ( he should be drug tested, seriously), the utmost unprofessional service worker Ive ever dealt with-told me to come get my dogs before they start, when I was just letting them know that I will not allow my 4 month /1 year old puppies to stay there for 4 hours while they take walk ins and make mine sit in kennels! This is abuse, sorry! You gave me some bogus excuse that it depends on the dogs tempermant and how they will do with the grooming process, BS, if you know what your doing and you have a system, of not overbooking, you SHOULD NOT take 4 hours for one dog! and your attitude sucks man! you don't talk like that to a paying client, especially one spending over 300.00! So screw you guys, as I told you I would never trust you with any of my dogs and your policies! I will be taking this to a higher level and reporting you to BBB! Grooming - I was sooo nervous to take my doodle to Petco for a groom since some groomers have a hard time with their coats/cuts but when I went to go pick up my girl I was so happy! They listened to everything I requested & my girl was so happy. My groomer was Wacharee! 10/10 *Remember! The person that help me out was a lady and she was super kind and helpful. Quick efficient and smooth nothing difficult about it.
