Total upsell scam at grooming. I read this in other reviews and thought I could fight them off but no luck. They give you a quote online in the booking for 60 bucks for a toy dog and then when you get there they insist you need all these extras for another 30 bucks. If you decline they insist it's not possible and the extras are needed. They probably get a lot of non confrontational people to just go along with this. I called over a week ago for information on puppy training, trying to determine which class would be best for my dog, and they said the trainer would call me back same day but they never called me back. Today, I arrived to our appointment for our influenza vaccine for our dog at the Vetco part of the store, only to be told they ran out. No notice or call from them to cancel the appointment. We scheduled in advance because they would not give the influenza vaccine with the other vaccines that we came to get, saying they won't do two different shots in a day (no other vet has ever said this). We waited two weeks for our newly scheduled appointment and they didn't bother to have it ready or call to cancel the appointment. On top of that, the woman at the desk was so sarcastic after telling us that they were out with her "have a nice day". Waste of our time and rude. Petco is a huge chain, I'd expect a better service... I used to work at an animal hospital, so I am familiar with what's up, what needs to be done etc. I send my dog there with a friend to get a bravecto, so they can weight her and can give the appropriate one. They call and say since it's a prescription med she needs to be seen by the doctor. I was like sure, even better - she has been really itchy for the last couple of weeks and even though I gave her flea bath and an other oral med I wanted to get bravecto to stop this situation completely. That is a good brand that I'm familiar with. At the store they only had the oral one and not the tropical one for the skin, I'm still okay with the product. I just want my baby to finally get relax. My friends call me so I can speak with the doctor, by the time it has already been more than 30 mins. I asked the doctor about how was everything she says she did a full body exam everything looks ok, which was really weird cause then I asked her how her stomach looked like she didn't had any clue and even asked me what's wrong with her belly. I mean if she would touched or looked she would have seen it. They spend I believe around 1 hour getting a full body exam yet she missed the only reason why my dog was there. Bravecto is known as flea medication and when you check for the fleas you need to look under arms and belly. So that was a sad experience on my end and definitely created a low image on my mind as a customer. read more

Jack The Trainer Writing this review had been on my list for a while. Here goes - my 2 yo male Siberian Husky, Djinn Djinn needed some serious obedience training last year. I found out at petco that Jack was the one who trained all big dogs. Met him once & we started the level1 private sessions (6 sessions for I think ~ $250, which was quite a good deal!!) around Nov 2019 and Djinn graduated in Jan 2020. Jack not only trained my dog, he also trained me on some basics Some things I didn't realize I had been doing wrong. For instance, I was not being an alpha myself and no wonder my dog was taking over! What's great about Jack is that he has a perfect balance of being kind & playful with your dog and at the same time possess the authority of an alpha. I could really see my dog treat him differently, like he would listen to him follow him around act like a good boy lol. The sessions used to be quite intense, for both Djinn and me, but we always came back home with a sense of accomplishment. Djinn is still not perfect, nor am I but Jack has left us both in a WAY better position. Djinn def respects and obeys me more now (required some attitude adjustments from my end as well). Besides, I feel Jack as person is very dedicated to what he does. He's not money minded and is honest. He won't kick you out after the 1 hr mark and would stay back for any Q&A. You won't feel rushed is what I mean! Also, he won't try to talk you into anything unnecessary. Another important thing, he never criticized my dog for bad behavior, rather gave reasoning as to why Djinn behaved the way he did and how it can be corrected. I had gone to Urban Pets before petco but did not go ahead with the gentleman there as he kept criticizing my dog repeatedly during the meet & greet to sort of convince me as to why training was so important for my dog. I mean I knew he needed the training which is why I was exploring right, so that strategy backfires with some customers (like me) lol! I would very much love to resume our training sessions with Jack for level2 and whatever comes next, after the pandemic. And I like this petco store too, there's nothing to not like about it PS - Attached is Djinn's cert and a cute picture of him. I went to the grooming salon in sept when i noticed my dog was limping upon picking her up. I should have listened to my instinct to leave upon arrival. A groomer was laughing at a dog who was screaming while she cut his nails. I had such bad anxiety to leave her there. Two weeks after we left she was still limping, i went to the vet who informed me that she tore her ACL. I had to fight with the company for 2 months before my baby could get surgery on her leg. They tried saying that they would cover 50% because she jumped off the table - this was interesting news since the manager told me initially that he watched the video and nothing was out of the ordinary. The regional manager also said she watched the video and everything was normal - "two people carried her onto the table". They lied to me because they knew i couldnt get access to the footage without a lawyer. Now i have to watch my girl suffer from surgery where she is in excruciating pain, cannot walk, cannot figure out how to use the bathroom without the use of her leg. I had a groomer call me a day before my appointment to bump up my appointment because they wanted to make sure they could leave on time. I didn't think too much of it and thought it was a fair ask. My concern is that when I went to pick up my dog I was told she had an issue with her nails getting clipped. This resulted in her getting cut on her leg. When I got home I noticed she was limping. I have tried to bring my small dog here on numerous occasions to be groomed. My dog is 4 and 1/2 pound Chihuahua. She is nervous in that she shakes... like you probably would if you weighed 4 1/2 pounds. She also has a neurological condition which sometimes, rarely, causes seizures which make her legs stiffen up. That's it. I have called my vet to provide medical clearance to this groomer on numerous occasions so that they can simply wash her and cut her nails. However, every time I arrive, the groomers tell me that they don't feel comfortable grooming my dog because she already looks nervous, again, in that she's shaking. A Chihuahua. Shaking. There is never any advance notice given that they won't be able to groom my dog. What is the point of having my vet call this groomer? Keeping notes in the file that the vet says it's OK? I am updating my review to say that we finally got our pet back. The store finally took action after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We have our Bonnie back, and my daughter is beside herself with joy. Very grateful for the BBB, and glad that PetCo stepped up and fulfilled their obligation. This review is for the Puppy Training provided by Petco in Hancock Park, specifically by Trainer Lynn Powers. I signed up my 3 month old Labradoodle for the puppy training at this store. The 6 week package seemed like a great deal and let me tell you, it is! After just one class Lynn had my puppy under her full control. He was able to "sit", lay "down" and "come", with every command. Lynn then taught my girlfriend and I how to do the commands as well. By class three he was able to "leave it", "roll over" and still had the other commands down pat. Treats were a flowing. By his Graduation ceremony, our pup Moose was able to "beg" "crawl" "shake" "roll" "come" "sit" "down" "twirl" "stand" "heel" and "leave it". We are so proud of our now 4 month old puppy. Thanks to Lynn for her patience, generosity and never getting mad when we were late for class. This training package is a tremendous value! read more

A few days ago I found a Praying Mantis lying in my lawn and not able to move much (lethargic). There had been a week of very low temperatures for our area the week before, so I was very surprised to see a Praying Mantis still alive in mid-November. She may have been starving since cool overnight temperatures meant a very reduced food supply for her. Anyway, she's a very curious insect, tilts her head to look at me, reaches out to touch my glasses, doesn't run or fly away when hanging out in the living room with family! I've been to Petco twice this week for an insect cage, a cricket cage, cricket food and, of course CRICKETS! During both visits I needed assistance. Both times all the staff was great! I bought this for my three year old miniature poodle and within one hour she had destroyed the flocking and digested the bits of foam. This is billed as "Your dog will dig chasing after the ultimate target: This Leaps & Bounds squeaking foam ball with bone detailing. Light to medium chewers will find bliss jawing and happily bounding as they play." Very poor product. For "light to medium chewers"? No way. It's not like I have a pit bull for gosh sakes. This needs to be reported because obviousy this can prove to be a health hazard for some dogs. RIPOFF!! I want a refund!!!!!!~ Unfortunately, there is no oversight of pet toys: "...there is no specific regulatory requirements for pet toys other than general safety requirements for consumer products which would be overseen by the Consumer Products Safety Commission.
