Been using Petcos grooming service since this new place opened up across the street from my home. Me and my Dog Gab(bishon friz) 1st year visits were outstanding. The haircut quality from Jessica was as good as any mobile service, but as time goes on. The quality service has gone down drastically whenever its crowded or another person grooms my dog. I used to be very excited to pick up my dog from the groomers, but now I'm just worried if my dog got shaved down to the skin again.. due to "Tangles". Everytime this happens I have to deal w/ my dog shivering for 2wks. The last time this happend, my Gfs folks had to pick him up from the groomer because I was stuck working in the hospital. It had to be the worse job they've ever done. Soo bad the groomers had to give us a discount. That was never the problem for 1st 2yrs since this place opened. I went to the Burbank store but their engraving machine was not working and there was no estimated time of repair. So at their recommendation, I went to the North Hollywood store. Gabriella helped me, she was helpful, polite, and knowledgable. Inspite of being short staffed she was patient with my every question. This is really too bad, but it is a prime example of a business that is focused on quantity and not quality. Where to start... 1. First off, you are greeted with a big poop stain/smear right at the entrance of the store... WELCOME! (See pic) 2. There is a very nasty rug right at the entrance of the store. Very dirty and stained with what I think it to be dog piss. (See pics) 4. Item purchased on Petco website and schedule to pick up at this location turned out to not be available. They only had one of the two items purchased online. I specifically chose this location because the petco website showed that the was not available at other locations. It stated that it would be here. 5. There were only two people on the floor in the whole store. The cashier was swamped and kept getting interrupted by customers that had questions. She was not assertive enough (not trained) to tell customers to wait until she finished my transaction to help them, so one question led to another and another and another... 6. I pre-paid a bath for my dog and was given a caddy with a towel, but no apron. I was soaked. I wasn't offered one either even after one of the staff came by to help someone else with the water and saw that my shirt was drenched. 7. Bath area is a very nice design, but the tubs are too far in. Bad for the back. Had a difficult time bathing my medium sized dog. Just shows the lack of interest and attention that was given when designing. 8. Water stream so very weak. 9. Blow dryer even worse... would've taken forever to dry my dog. 10. There were at least two pee puddles left unattended. One look like it was already drying. I wanted to clean it up for them, but there were no paper towels in any of the dispensers set out to the store to help customers pick up after the dogs. 11. Bathrooms filthy. Dirty floors. Gas station bathroom smell. 12. Took my dog out for a walk to help air dry. He pooped in the dirt area. Walked over to the outside to the convenient poopy bag dispenser and surprise! No poopy bags. Used a plastic bag from Vallarta. Will definitely not be coming back. Actually, won't be coming back to any Petcos. I've had poor customer service at other Petcos, including Unleashed. It is no wonder people are flocking to smaller pet supplies/food stores. Very apparent that Petco/Unleashed have diverted from their mission of pets first. read more

This is only for management not employee based. The customer service I received from Misael was great. Was polite and knowledgeable about the current events and specials. The reason for 4 stars is due to poor management. Public flyers and public emails sent out have specific dates handing out certain gifts. With that being said "everything" was handed out on the first day. Well some one goofed there, sucks because my busy schedule didn't allow me to come. Anyways, registers failed and coupons were getting declined. Bummer. The employees offered us a pound of treats. That was cool, plus I got my rat a $5 banana. During the past 5 years, I have lost 2 excellent poodle groomers; both moved to another state. Since then I have been looking for a reasonably priced, skilled groomer with a pleasant personality for my 2 yr old, 7 lb. toy poodle. After 3 visits, I was not pleased with the previous groomer's skills. Despite bringing in photos and explaining what I wanted, I never got what I asked for, so I waited 3 months to let the bad clip grow out. Going into the second month of a "stay at home" order, my options were limited, since "standalone" grooming salons were labeled as "non-essential" and forced to close. With that in mind, I decided to try the Petco Unleashed near my home. As always when meeting a new (to me) groomer, I want to speak to him or her first, and if I feel comfortable, I make an appointment with that same person to do the grooming. So I went to the grooming salon and met Jessica, who happened to be the salon manager. From the start I was very comfortable with her, and asked for an appointment with her. On the day of the appointment I arrived with Camellia, her shot record, and photos of the clip that I was requesting. A poodle clip has different hair lengths on each body part, and there are many variations of clips. I was very impressed when Jessica brought out a 3-D display of different hair lengths to choose from, which brought even more clarity to the photos I brought with me. When I left, I noticed that the grooming salon had huge windows where people could watch from outdoors or inside the store. I sneaked a few peeks, because I didn't want Camellia to see me and get excited, but I felt very comfortable knowing there was nothing to hide. When I came back to pick her up, the clip was exactly as requested. Since I was a new client, I received a 20% discount, and I was also able to use some of my Petco reward money, and at the same time earn new reward points towards the next grooming! The reason I don't give this place a one star is because the staff was kind enough to give us doggy bags when one of my dogs decided to relive her self while waiting for the self wash to be "cleaned" I went there thinking it was gonna be just as good as other petcos I've been to, but the reality is that it wasn't, only one tub was "working" but no one told us that so I went and used two tubs one for each of my dogs since they tend to be unruly when it comes to showers. When it came to using the shampoo nothing came out and at this point one of dogs is making a ruckus, there was no one in sight to help me figure out why there was no shampoo, I had to leave my dog and search for someone. I finally find someone and they tell me that just one tub is working and that they don't know why the didn't tell us. The I tell them about the shampoo and it takes them a while to figure it out, suddenly they find a bottle of the most diluted dog shampoo, and at this point I just want to get the hell outta there. $30 for using this self wash bs without proper dog shampoo? ridiculous. My dogs look like they didn't even get cleaned! Never coming back. read more

Horrible horrible horrible place to bring your dog if you want to give them a haircut. We brought her in with the specific instructions of keeping her fluffy as we just wanted a trim on her face. When she came back I kid you not she looked like a rat. Photos of her will be below this review but as I was saying she looked like a literal rat. When she came back her nails were clipped unevenly, The way they cut her hair on her head makes her look like an deformed egg, her tail looks like a singular Ramen noodle, her actual body hair don't get me started she looked so not like her you know?, and her face which it literally the only thing we asked for them to cut?, uneven, barley even cut in-fact. Associates state bathroom is not working. Self wash is available but they have no towels available and instead offer that they have dryers...but do not offer any sort of discount. Then when hanging my head low and just "taking it", I find that the wash area hasn't been cleaned all day and is full of dirt, hair, and leftover items from everyone else using the service. When instead informing the associate that I wanted my money back and that this was a horrible experience, she said well it is what it is and didn't really care. No good Petco! read more

Angela (pink hair) in aquatics is great. I came in and was looking at the fish- I had some concerns in regards to the care of the fish and she answered them all. Came in to buy replacements for my frozen justfoodfordogs as they were originally be picked by someone via Instacart and they were freezer burned and spoiled. I called and spoke with someone from petco to see whatI needed to do to get replacements, and was told I needed to get refunded by Instacart. I got refunded by Instacart and chose to come in to get the replacements and show them that they sold spoiled food. I came in and one cashier was checking someone out and the other (Kayla) was on her phone doing something. So I waited for the other cashier to help me. I explain to her that I wanted her to see the bad food I got via Instacart and needed to buy replacements. Kayla must have been the person I spoke to over the phone because once she was done playing with her phone, she told the cashier helping me that she wasn't doing a return because I already got refunded, therefore she knew about the issue. I clarified again to the cashier helping me that I was only there to purchase new food and give them the others to dispose of. I then ask if there was a manager in earlier and if there was one in now. She told me the names, and I said thank you I just wanted to know the names and proceeded to leave. Kayla gets on the phone and starts calling the manager. I reiterated to her that I only wanted the names. She continued calling and then as I said again that she didn't need to call them, she gets all rude towards me like I've offended her, when she was trying to be smart with me in the first place by proceeding to call when she heard me say I just wanted the names. So thank you so much Kayla for all your attitude, as if I wasn't already having a bad day, you were the icing on the cake! I wanted to especially commend one of the employees at this Petco, Jeremy. Delivery can sometimes be imperfect in these COVID times, and the Petco website is imperfect as well. A mistake was made on an order I made on Saturday, after I had talked to this employee. Rather than saying, "I'm sorry," and telling me I had to come in and pick up the correct order, Jeremy went out of his way to make sure I received what I ordered. HORRIBLE. Do not schedule to have your pet groomed here. Last Sat I came in because I had an appt for my dog to get a haircut. The girl said my dog didn't have an appt. I made a fuss because I called earlier that week to schedule an appt. Fine, I was upset but went ahead and scheduled my dog to get groomed the next Sat. I showed up right on time and the guy says " oh I'm sorry, the groomer isn't here, didn't you get a call ?" No. I didn't get a call. I'm livid. 2 weeks in a row. And to think, I was SO excited when opened. I was happy to have a Petco so close to home! Forget it. Never again. They are ridiculously unprofessional. I mean. This store looks great on the outside. It is in a nice shopping center with plenty of parking. The inside is clean but none of this makes up for the my experience there. First, the staff greets you when you come in but isn't nice or helpful in answering your questions or getting your needs met. I was interested in aquatics. There was a man who thought he knew his department but he gave me the worst advise. I wanted a minnow as a companion for my one whose friend had died. He sold me mosquito fish and told me they weren't minnows (they were) but they were very small. I was concerned that the fish wouldn't get along. Then I find out one of the fish is pregnant and when she lets loose, there will be 60 babies. When I complained, I was told to go to STUDIO CITY PETCO. This store was new and didn't have the ability to help me. They would take care of the problem. I did go to Studio City and they did help me. I will write a separate review for them. I will not return to North Hollywood, EVER. It's the same as Burbank. I had a bad experience and haven't been back to that store in years. If you need to go to Petco, go to Studio City. Maybe for dogs they are okay but for aquatics North Hollywood is the worst. read more

I've been here for my dogs grooming several times and had great experiences with several of the groomers. Today was the complete opposite. I had an appointment to groom my dog and was a running a few minutes late. I got to the store and patiently waited in line to be helped. When I got to the front the person helping said they couldn't see me because I was 5 minutes over the time limit on my appointment and would have to reschedule me to another day. I told her I was already here waiting in line I'm sure you can help me. She said no I saw when you came in I can't take you and will reschedule you for another day. I am an avid Petco girl. Heck I have a spoiled about to be 1. I have gone to this location once before. But usually Unleashed or the Studio City or Burbank locations.. Walked in no greeting. Walked around a very empty store and not once did anyone acknowledge my existence, offer help anything. I went down every isle and was there awhile. There was one other customer in the store. Around 5pm Looked at Halloween costumes and their supply is even less than Unleashed.. Found Birthday Bandanas and Collara but all large n xl. No small . Got some treats at the treat bar and the scale is off 1/4 lb. Grooming was.closed. Vet too.. I likes they had one kitten in the rescue. Room for others. But glad they saved it. The grooming department does not answer the phone EVER. When there in person, you cannot get someone to come to the grooming counter unless you CALL (even though you can hear the employees laughing & joking around in the back office) in which case they still do not answer the phone, but they finally acknowledge someone is waiting and will come out to greet you (& in a rude manner, I've never been treated nicely here) This has happened to me 3 times in the last 3 months. Nice store but an awful staff. Grand opening was an understaffed and patience lacking bust with confusion over their coupons/grand opening deals and pee everywhere. Like, if this is how it is on first open - with the manager (Emma) yelling at staff and customers alike, I think I'm just fine sticking with my regular pet store even though this one's closer. CAUTION BEWARE OF MISHANDLING OF PETS IN THE GROOMING DEPARTMENT. I will never take my dog back to this location. I took my dog in on 12/09/2019 for grooming and my dog is SEVERELY traumatized. They must have abused my dog while he was there. He won't stop shaking, he won't stop peeing on the floors, he won't stop peeing on himself, he won't come when called, acts like he's getting yelled at when we're just looking at him. Honestly his worst experience ever. Usually there's is no problem when he comes home from the groomer he's usually happy. I would hate to think that they abused my dog because i wasn't going to pay for the deluxe service to get him groomed. He's all of 5 lbs. so he couldn't have been that hard to handle . read more

I have taken my Yorkie here to get groomed several times. Most recently I got baby girl nails cut, haircut, wash. I was very specific and showed pictures of what I wanted. Jose listened and finished in 2 1/2 hours. She was so cute and did exactly what I wanted. My first time with Jose. He did such an amazing job, was really nice to her and fast. I've gone places where they've kept her for 4+hrs or cut her ear by accident. I highly recommend Jose. If no one is at the grooming counter, just have the store staff page the groomer. Only one of the self-wash stations works out of the 3, even though there are no signs indicating as much. I thought it was funny when an employee told me that I had people waiting behind me. Of course there will be when only one of the three stations is working. So in trying to be polite I rushed to get my dog just dry enough to leave. We ended up tracking wet paw prints across the store and into my car. So disappointing & won't be coming back. read more

This is actually my favorite pet store in the entire valley. Yes, it's a chain. But this location far exceeds expectations. I was informed of a super sale happening on my cat's food on Black Friday, but was stuck at work until 7pm. Called hoping for a miracle, and the associate on the phone very kindly put a basket of all of the food they had left on hold for me.
