I have been a customer of this Unleashed by Petco location for more than eight years, and both of my dogs have received training here. Unfortunately, in late March 2026, I had a terrible interaction with an employee named Maddie that left me extremely shaken and uncomfortable. I came in shortly after the store opened to purchase flea treatment for my dogs. The product had been moved to a different section, and the way it was displayed was also completely different from what I had previously seen. Instead of the actual boxes or corresponding empty packaging, there was a product information card listing different flea-treatment options. I simply asked Maddie for help because I was confused by the new setup. She was very short with me, barely explained anything, and walked away. The store was not busy, but her tone and demeanor made me feel as though she was too busy to care. I had never had a negative interaction with her before, so I initially assumed she was having a bad day and was willing to brush it off. At the register, I explained why I had asked about the product and mentioned that I used to work in retail. Her response became sarcastic and dismissive, along the lines of, "Well, since you worked in retail and all..." I genuinely asked her, "Are you okay?" She turned the question back on me, "Are YOU okay?!",  became defensive, and began raising her voice in front of other customers. I was so shocked by the interaction that I became physically shaken and told her I was literally shaking. I even asked whether she remembered me and my two small dogs because her behavior was so completely different from how she had treated me previously. She eventually said she needed a moment and went to the back while customers were waiting. I reported the incident to a manager named Alex by phone around March 27th and was told it would be addressed. I never received an apology. When I saw Maddie again on July 1st, I was uncomfortable even making eye contact with her because of what had happened. I ultimately returned to the store and spoke with Luis, another manager. He was professional, empathetic, and took my concerns seriously. He listened to everything I explained and handled the situation appropriately. Unfortunately, when Maddie joined the conversation, she immediately became defensive and referred to our "issues" in the past rather than taking accountability for the one specific incident I was describing. Even with her manager and other customers present, I did not receive an apology and she continued to have a bad attitude, raise her voice, leaving me and Luis shocked. I understand that employees can have bad days. What I don't understand is why a customer who has been coming to the same location for more than eight years should be left feeling uncomfortable and nervous about encountering an employee. I should not have to consider going to another Petco simply to avoid someone who has twice made me feel this way. I'm disappointed because I've had many positive experiences with this location and its previous managers and employees. I hope Petco takes this seriously, reviews the available camera footage from both incidents, and addresses this immediately. The bather called me and asked me to bring my dogs in. I'm happy to assist bathers with experience. She asked me to bring my dog in at 3pm. She is a standard poodle .. which means you need quite some time to dry the dog properly. I wasn't aware their grooming area closed at 5pm and it wasn't mentioned to me. This was only our second time at this location. So needless to say she poorly bathed my dog, poorly dried her coat, and did not clean her ears. Poodles are prone to ear infections when not cleaned and dried properly. I received a text at 5:21pm that she was ready. THERE WAS STILL NO MENTION THAT THE SALON TEAM WOULD BE LEAVING. I got there to pick her up and waited 5 mins before i realized no one was there to help me. The tickets were laid on the counter and I had to ask the front cashier where the team was. He said they were gone for the night. My dog was left in a kennel in a dark, empty salon with no supervision and a bandana on her neck. Great and convenient place. Please don't expect much from this place, it's on the smaller side than the usual massive PETCO stores. It's a convenient place to get ur usual pet food and supplies not the place to get your usual fish, reptile and bird animals for sale. Upon walking in, one is hit with the overwhelming smell of stale air, poop and dried pet food. Wished they had better ventilation system or some type of better air circulation to help facilitate some fresh air in. Despite all that, we are more than content with this place; we got more than what we needed. Ultimately, we came here for the DIY pet bath. Highly recommend! For $20, they provided shampoo and conditioner and towels. The staff in the wash station was friendly and kept every station clean and she was quick to provide any assistance. We came back on a Saturday and they had their Vetco going on. We got our dog's boosters, test and necessary meds done. The vet and veg techs were great. Service was commendable. While I was there talking about an experience I had with them denying my dog grooming and also claiming he has undiagnosed health issues. I heard her say in the back that a dog pooped so she's calling the owner for pick up because "she just can't deal today" like your a groomer your supposed to deal with this stuff. UPDATE: so the company just responded to this review. With the exact same review response, they gave me on Google. Which means nobody's really reading the response just if you give a low number they give you the automatic response with the same useless phone number. I went into the store and there was one other customer who had a shopping cart. She was an elderly lady, probably in her late 80s. I asked for a shopping cart as I am disabled. And cannot carry my purchases around the store. I was told, by the manager, Dylan, they only had one shopping cart and it was being used. As I mentioned, we were the only two shoppers in the store. He offered me a handheld shopping basket, which I wasn't able to use. I went back to my car and the elderly lady came out with her shopping cart. The manager watched her push the cart out into the parking lot and put her items in the car. She struggled to get those items out of her basket. So much so that somebody stopped their car in the parking lot and helped her. Not once did the manager move to assist her at all. First, I don't know why there's only one shopping cart in the entire store. This is terrible customer service. This woman should not have been struggling in the parking lot. And somebody could've assisted me with my purchases which totaled around $90. After purchasing my purchases, I left the store and didn't mention anything else. Petco later reached out to me asking for a review. Which I gave them. It was not a good review because I did not have a good experience. The cashier on the other hand was lovely. That being said after I posted my review on Google at their request, they reached out to me saying sorry sorry call us at this number. We'd like to review what you said. I called the number. It's an offshore calling center who was not only not equipped to handle this situation. They had never experienced being asked to handle customer service in this regard. So it was just a waste of my time. Don't ask for a review if you don't like what you're gonna hear. And don't ask somebody to call you if you're not gonna give them a number with somebody who is qualified to actually deal with the problem. Customer service just got worse. read more

I am so tired of PETCO... I guess that's what you get when you use a chain business instead of just using private people... They nickel and dime you for every single thing in the GROOMING department. I've tried to have my dog cut and groomed. there are three separate times three separate times I've had to walk out without my dog being groomed. This morning, the PETCO on Lankershim Wanted to charge me an extra fee for the matting my dog under its neck when she wasn't mad... It's like their thing where they want to find ways to charge you extra. I brush my dog EVERYDAY and even said I will brush it out at the car. The woman says yeah if we find matting after you do it we will charge you....what?? BUT SHE ISNT MATTED. as a matter of fact, she had a bath and a blowout two weeks before this appointment.. I've been coming here a couple times. I usually only go to give my dog a wash. It's great when the stations are not busy. They have three of them btw. The employees are awesome very friendly. The rates for the self dog washing stations is a solid 20 buckaroos. They give you shampoo, conditioner, towels, a rubber scrubber, brush, and a leash. The station on the far right only stays on hot so be careful if using that one. read more

My partner and I used the self service dog wash to wash our very heavy and old Husky. It was 20.00 for a self service wash. They have 3 bins, 2 high + 1 low. We used the low for our chunky princess. They provide you with shampoo, and all the accessories you need to wash your dog. And even provide towels (which you can alway ask for more of) They even have a high powered hair dryer which made it a quick in and out. It was affordable and easy to use. Two things you can rarely find together these days. Will be using again. Please note: there is not an attendant dedicated to the self wash service area, but if you go to the register they can get you everything you needed. It is "self-Service" after all. read more

I've been coming here for years and have brought my dog for grooming about 15 times. I've always got the seasonal specials or whatever but this time I just did the bath. When I got here the groomer told me I had to purchase the de-shedding as well cause of the type of dog. I've never been told this before and again I've been here so many times. There nothing on the website or app that says if your dog is furrier you HAVE to buy the extra service and it's just bad customer service. The managers were nice when I spoke to them but the groomer who initially told me about the extra cost was pretty short and unapologetic. Just said "I can't do it if you don't get the de-shed", no apology. As much as I like this place, I'll be looking into other groomers now. Hidden fees is pretty tacky. We had an excellent experience with the Grooming Department. Our groomer, Genesis C, took excellent care of our Goldendoodle. She had a small mat on the top of her head and Genesis was able to get it out with ease and keep the length of our pup's fur. This is my local pet store by Petco. I love coming here because it's so close to my home. Do not go before closing time they will follow you around and tell you to hurry up because they are closing the store. We entered the store at 6:55pm. Both employees came up to me and told me to hurry if I am buying something. I have never felt so rushed before a in a store before closing. No one asked to help me find a product. We took our two German Shepherds to the do-it-yourself bath area today. It's a good price. For $20 each, they provide a basket with a big bottle of shampoo and conditioner. They're not labelled, though, so I washed my first dog in conditioner, not realizing. I wondered why it didn't suds up! They provide a tether to keep them in the tub, a wet brush, a dry brush, and two small thin towels. The tub worked well, the water was a good temperature and good pressure. When I asked, they gave me a few more towels, which helped a lot! The dryer was easy to use with a long reach, but it's just cool air, so I think the towels did most of the drying. When you're done, you're instructed to walk away - they will clean everything up for you. It makes it so easy! I would definitely return, especially in the winter when it's too cold to wash the dogs outside. read more

I stopped by Unleashed in North Hollywood ca. I witness a dog groomer handling a dog in the tub turning the dog around like a rag doll. The guy that was washing the dog was pulling the poor dog around by its neck. Very harshly and without care for the Dog. I reported it to the clerk and called the supervisor for that store to report what I saw. I stood there for a few minutes to make sure what I was seeing, and made a comment the groomer turned around and when back to man handling this poor dog. I wouldn't take my dog to Unleash if it was FREE! I am still upset with what I witnessed. If you love your pet please don't take them to this location. read more

I came to purchase the wet food variety petco brand food Whole Hearted for my pup. There were so many cute dogs walking around the store with their owners . That being said there was a bit of a smell, but that's to be expected in a pet store especially where grooming takes place . Things are kind of hard to find in this store so I spent some time just wandering around . I asked for help finding pet tags and the employee was quite kind and helpful which was much appreciated. After I purchased the tag the woman behind the counter gave me simple instructions on how to make the tag and the process was easy enough . I had an overall enjoyable experience here . I did notice that when people were done grooming their dogs , fur and tools were left out for what seemed like lengthy amounts of time . read more

It sucks to wake up early for a appointment to find out the groomer canceled from home. Twice i drove out of my way and twice i get canceled with no heads up ... I'm almost glad because the reviews on this place are only making things worse . The guy who is always there early to break the news to us is almost as disappointed as me . Definitely my favorite pet store! My dogs love it and the staff here are excellent. The store is clean and is the best place to socialize with other dogs and their owners. My puppy has puppy training classes with Adam. He does an excellent job with the dogs. He communicates well and can't imagine having anyone else help train my puppy. Puppy playtime is available Sat-Sun from 1-2p for dogs up to 6 months old. It really helped my puppy feel more comfortable with the other puppies. Overall, I highly recommend this place. read more

I would highly recommend going to any other pet store. We have gone to this Unleashed location a couple of times and the whole store smells horrible. I know pet stores don't smell the best, but this is way beyond your average pet store smell. We went for the self-wash. The first time was alright... my five-year-old had fun but the wash sinks were filthy and there was water everywhere. I understand that this is a public wash... but it looked like it had not been attended to or cleaned all day. But it was bearable. But today will be the last time we ever go to this store. My five-year-old and I showed up at 6:20 PM. The store closes at 7:00 PM. We literally said we stopped by to give our dog a quick bath. And we are told the baths close at 6:30 PM. I point out that nowhere is that posted in store, online, or on their website. I said I can give my dog a bath in 10 minutes... but they still said no... Saying the water shits off at 6:30 PM. I asked to talked to the manager. Amanda (the store manager) came out and told me they close the baths at 6:00 PM. I pointed out that nowehere is that posted and that the other employee told me 6:30. She said they already cleaned the bath area for the night... but there were other people still bathing their dogs (and by this time it was after 6:30 PM and the water was not shut off). I explained that we drove all the way over and really could give our dog a bath very quickly and asked if she could make an exception. And she said no. She made my five-year-old cry. He cried all the way out the store and all the way home. Even if they did clean the area... she could have easily just said "Sure. Go ahead. No problem. We are open for 40 more mins. In fact, I will clean it myself when you are done." Honestly, that was how I was raised and exactly what I would have done. But she said no. Because she didn't care. She made my kid cry because she didn't care. And it would have been so easy to care just a little bit and do the right thing. I really don't blame Amanda. Unleashed is a PetCo product and this is sadly what we have all come to expect from PetCo and their employees... Corporate employers and employees who just don't care. I will be taking my busy local. There are plenty of great local pet shops that would be happy to have the business... even if their stores were closing in 40 minutes. read more

Grooming was cancelled without notice. They supposedly called and left a message. Then why did they ask for text confirmation the night before? No remorse or sense of customer service. First and last visit. Aside from terrible service, the whole place is dimly lit and not welcoming. So unbelievably frustrating! I called unleashed to make sure they were still open for dog food. I had a long day and had run out of dog food. They said they were open till seven and I arrived at 7:00 and the manager literally closed the door in my face and said that they were closed and he had already closed the registers ... even though I had just watched him finish checking out another customer. All I needed was one simple got a bag of dog food. I'm a regular there and he definitely recognized me. The quality of customer service and care is definitely below par. Never going back there again now... I'll go back to getting my stuff online. It's really sad when people don't give a shit about their jobs. And now I am racing to the nearest pet store. Completely unreliable. Hours listed on Yelp are not the hours. Yelp says it's open, so I go there and it's closed. This has happened a few times. No hours listed on the door, either. It's supposed to be open for another hour, via website, so I call to be sure, twice, and the phone disconnects after I press "3" to get customer service. I guess the store changed hours, which is understandable, but myself and another customer were entering the store right at the new closing time. That customer walked in and as I'm walking in behind, an employee rushed to the door and closed the door on me. I was really confused (not knowing about the new time) and then the employee told me that the other customer made the cut off, but I didn't... by 5 secs. She added a fabrication that he was in the store by 7:00. I looked at my watch and it was 7:02. We both got out of our vehicles at the same time... It's clear that they forgot to lock the door, but wouldn't kick the guy out as he was already physically in the store. I had one item to buy as well, which was a bag of hard food. I tried explaining that I knew what i needed and would be quick. This was not accepted. Any business owner would have not turned away business, especially when the customer was literally walking in behind someone else. I told the employee I was not coming back. I doubt they cared. Only in dire urgencies will I go back to this store to buy pet food. To put it bluntly, they turned down business, so business went elsewhere. I love taking my dog here to get groomed. All the staff is so nice and welcoming. Frankie is our go to groomer, he is so sweet and always does a great job with my dog Charlotte. They are partnered with Petco but I like to go here because it is always easier to make an appointment. There are less people here, which means small lines! I asked if my dog could be washed on the floor like they have been doing for the last 6 years but for some reason today the confused girl at the front desk seemed to think that meant he was injured and got her manager we shouldn't groom my dog. The manager (Ren) then being the unqualified pet store manager on a power trip that she is, decided to bash heads with me about letting me dog get groomed, and she couldn't just agree that I had never needed to go through this ever in the last 6 years and let it go. She insisted that she would make notes in the system saying my dog was too injured to get groomed. My dog is in perfect health but because of a miscommunication they assumed he was injured and would not listen to me once they made up their mind. I said whatever and decided to let them still groom him today since they agreed they would, they then kept me waiting for 50 minutes past my appointment time with my dog in thr kennel and when I asked for the status they said the groomer was still not there yet. I asked for my dog back because they were keeping him in the kennel for no reason and I said I would come back when the groomer came back. They said come back in 20 minutes and when I did, the manager rushed out of the door past me without saying a word and the groomer inside said sorry my manager told me to tell you that we can't groom your dog. So because of her power trip, they wasted about a hour in a half of my time and schedule my entire day around an appointment that never happened. Beware of Ren. She is passive aggressive and on a huge powe trip. She will disrespect you and your dog and keep them in a kennel and tell the groomers to wait extra long before calling. If I was the owner there I would fire her and send her to the curb because she's costing the company thousands of dollars a year and Valubale longtime customers. I hope she's reading this and hearing that she's a disgrace to pets and a horrible person and I'm sure that working for Petco is the most you'll ever amount to in your life. read more
