I came here to get nail trims for my dogs because I was not satisfied with the service at another place in the local area. I talked to them about my dogs since it was the first time that both my dogs and I had been there, and I wanted to talk about the baths and other services. Amber took care of the nail trims for both of my dogs while another tech assisted. When I saw that my dogs were comfortable being there, I booked appointments for them for baths. I was initially planning to get a standard bath for both of them, but after reading the information, I decided to opt for an oatmeal bath for my little girl since she is itchier than my little boy. The staff recommended that I get an essential package for my boy, although I was unsure if it was truly necessary to justify the price increase for something that had never been needed before. I was told it would take one to one and a half hours for the baths, and that's about what it took. The nail trims were easy and reasonable. The baths were a little more expensive than I had anticipated and much more so than the place where they used to get their baths in another state. So I'll have to think about whether I want to upgrade beyond a standard bath in the future. I highly recommend their services because they are excellent and took great care of my dogs. read more

A few weeks ago I came in to buy fish for my 55 gallon tank. I chose a few different species of schooling fish. Came to a total of around 10-15 fish. I put them in my tank & I lost a lot of fish, including my 2 angelfish which were already in the tank. My daughter who used to work there said that probably what caused so many to die is that it's not good to add too many new fish at a time. It totally messed up my water chemistry & took weeks to correct, while losing fish along the way. The girl who helped me knew they were all going in the same tank because I told her. She should have made me aware that it wasn't a good idea to add so many fish at once , instead of just letting me buy them. I won't be coming back to Petco to buy any more fish. read more

Came in today to grab some food for my puppy. The store is set up in a weird way so it wasn't easy to find the puppy food. They have a nice selection of adult dog food but limited on the large bred puppy stuff. However the brand I wanted was in stock. I grabbed a collar and some raw hide as well. I came in to get a fish. I stood near the fish for quite a time while a group of employees were gathered talking around the corner. Finally, I interrupted the group to ask for help. Still no help from any of them. Then Eli came over. Eli was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and helped me choose the correct critters for my needs, as well as offering advice about my aquarium setup. I then took my purchase to the front where the line was lengthening. Who came over to help? Eli! Big shout out to this employee. I hope they hire more like Eli, and fewer like the unhelpful chatters. read more

One of the worst Petco's, or even pet stores I have ever been in. Staff is rude and pretends they know everything but give just factually wrong answers that could lead to the overall harm to your pets. On top of that the quality of their pets are very low especially their fish, I've bought four fish from there and two died within 12 hours despite water conditions being perfect. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS, GO ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

New management and new employees are awful. Eddie is still there, he is wonderful. But everyone else is rude and very uninformative about their own products. So a few days ago I got a hamster with my mom from here. I found a cute white hamster and took him home. The lady getting the hamster for me was very nice and very polite and the man at the checkout was very clear on how to take care of the hamster. My hamster loves the toys and food I got for him. The hamster is also very healthy and doesn't buy. I would recommend getting any pet supplies or pets from this place. read more

Whomever the young woman is who worked the grooming department needs customer service training... immediately. It's not very believable to indicate that the store has been so busy, nobody could answer the phone for three hours in a row, but when I walk in, you are slumped over in a chair texting on your personal cell phone...especially since one of my calls was right before I walked in the store. If this is who the store puts to represent them, I cannot trust who is "behind the tinted glass" grooming dogs. Petco Owings Mills, MD! Everybody needs to be trained or re trained on FIFO! (First in first out) I purchased a 20-lb. Wholehearted dog food that expired NOVEMBER 2019! When I addressed it to the store- the employee who answered the phone NEVER apologized. She tried to "fix" the problem but made everything worse instead of reaching out to the Store Manager in charge. She informed me that it is NOT their job to check the dates! Which made me really furious! She instructed me to return the expired dog food so I can get a refund or replacement. Which made me upset even more! She pretty much told me there is NOTHING that they can do unless I go back and returned the bag of food! She insisted that both of her Managers are busy and NONE of them will be able to help me out. She put me on hold too many times and when the Manager in charge finally picked up he NEVER apologized either! He told me to return the bag in the store to get a refund or a replacement! Petco grooming is great. They treat our dog great and make him look handsome. Wouldn't take him anywhere else.

Very clean store, and they seem to really care about their critters. They could use more help; sometimes it does seem understaffed, but I've never encountered a rude or unhelpful employee there. I have to say the negative reviews are interesting in that the writers felt obligated to mention the "foreign accent" and perceived nationality of store staff...really? What's up with that and what does it have to do with your level of satisfaction with the service or selection at the store? It seems xenophobic and really kind of unnecessary. read more

The store is always a mess. The selection of dog food is small. The German employee refused to sell us a .25 gold fish unless we bought a brand new fish tank. Petsmart is so much better!!!! read more

My original post was a 1 star due to the following: I used to love this place! Tried other places and liked them but I stayed faithful to this one. Until I moved to Virginia, called to make the appointment confirmed time and all made the 1 hour 30 min drive just so they can say sorry it says here 8 not 830 so we can't take you in. After all this time I've been there and knowing that I drove all that time just to not even try to resolve it in any way and just tell me to come another day? There were not busy but because it was passed 15 from 8am anyways she wasn't going to take her. It's understandable if it as a mistake in my part, but if it's a mistake on your behalf, you need to assume the consequences. I work in the costume service business, I know how it goes. So.. No. So disappointed with the new staff. They used to give curtesy calls, apparently they dont do them anymore. Oh wait she told them they might have "forgotten" they usually don't write anything in the system anyways" and to drive up another day. After having telling her who I spoke with and the 2 time frames she gave me, the date and time, she tells me to make the drive another day? No thank you. Will NEVER go there again. Changed to 3 because: They called me 25 min later to tell me if I was still around they can take her in, and I did. The fact they changed around and call was nice, would of saved me some time and money if they were more organized from the get go with the appointments given and follow ups. This is still my last time here as I do not want to go through this again. I'm a fair person so that's why I updated my rating. read more

So, first let me say that the stock photos used by the store owner do not in anyway resemble what the store actually looks like. There is no self dog wash. I used to go to this location to get my beagles nails clipped and anal glands expressed. They did a descent job in the beginning but the last two times i went, i could hear my dog yelping when they did his anal glands, which should not hurt him. They claimed it was because he didn't like having this done, but he had NEVER yelped before. And not only did that happen, but I believe they cut his quick on his dewclaws and did not notify me. When i took my pup home he would yelp just from stepping on his bed or if I touched one of his paws. I thought the first time all of this happened that perhaps it was a fluke, but the second time ... no way. It breaks my heart to see my dog in pain from something that was easily preventable. I would never go back to this location or any large pet store for grooming. read more

Just had my dog groomed today by PETCO in Owings Mills. I was simply mortified at the sight of my dog... Leaving me speechless! This is the worst grooming that my dog has experienced. The cut on my dog's body and legs are uneven; and in addition, her face looks as if she was cut with a pair of damaged clippers. I will never return is an understatement. Anger doesn't describe how I feel... Im simply embarrassed for my pooch. I picked this location because I have relocated to Owings Mills. Can usually get my dog in within a day or two at this salon, very knowledgeable & treat the dogs gently & with care. It's a small salon, but always clean. Would definitely recommend to anyone for grooming needs. Girls are very nice & helpful. My dog always smells great afterwards & she isn't scared when I pick her up to go home, unlike at other salons I have used. read more

I wouldn't go here for rodents ever again. I had 4 rats from here and all of them died within a week of being brought home, presumably due to respiratory infections. I also noted poor handling of the rodents (picking them up by their tails, inadequate bedding and food, etc) and the rats mostly had pretty poor temperaments. I'm sure it's fine for other varieties of pets or supplies for your standard dog or cat, and a lot of their supplies are fine, but if you're looking to buy a rodent as a pet, I wouldn't go here. read more

I will never return to this Petco. I was treated very disrespectfully by the grooming department manager. She blatantly hung up on me. She was very rude and nasty. I believe her name was Trish.
