I've owned my American Akita since he was 8 weeks old, and he's now 7 years old. After years of professional grooming appointments, I know when he's ready to be groomed and I always pay for the de-shedding package with the additional brushing because that's what his double coat requires. When I picked him up, I was told he did a great job overall. The groomer mentioned he gave a couple of warnings because he didn't like the brush, so I specifically asked if that affected the quality of the groom. I was told it did not. I waited several weeks before saying anything because I wanted to make sure the shedding wasn't just leftover loose hair. Unfortunately, he continued shedding heavily throughout my home. I even provided photos. What convinced me the de-shedding wasn't thorough was that very little hair was coming from his undercoat. Instead, the loose hair continued coming from his outer coat every time I rubbed him, even weeks later. When I reached out, I was told the brushing had been intentionally limited to avoid brush burn. While I appreciate wanting to avoid making a dog uncomfortable, I paid for the additional brushing service and don't feel I received the level of de-shedding I paid for. I was also confused by the explanations I received. At pickup, I was told my dog's behavior didn't affect the groom. Later, I was told he had actually been more difficult during the appointment, although I was again told that wasn't the reason for the outcome. I was also told maybe I brought him in too early, but after seven years with my dog, I know when he's ready to be groomed. To be fair, I don't place all of the blame on my groomer. My biggest disappointment was how the owner handled the situation. After I was told the owner would call me, I instead received a lengthy text message. I responded respectfully, answered every question, and provided photos, but I was never offered a touch-up, another de-shedding treatment, a partial refund, or any other effort to resolve the issue. Eventually, my messages stopped receiving responses. This salon charges premium prices, and I was willing to pay them because my first experience was so positive. If someone had simply called me and made a reasonable effort to resolve the issue, I would have gladly remained a customer. This place actually loves your fur babies and pampers them the way you hope. They have always been accommodating for quick drop ins for a nail trim on my two cats. My cats hate the car ride but are super chill about the experience once they're there, which tells me everything I need to know about the care and expertise of this team. SHOCKING experience. My little Bichon came out of Shaggy Chic BLIND! When I took her to the car, she couldn't open her eyes. I ran back into the groomer and asked what happened- she couldn't open her eyes. Because she had been there for 6 hrs, the staff said she was just "tired" and also had "cataracts"(she was 2yo). Both statements were false. I asked who bathed her and was told "they just left out the back door". When we got home, I realized she was BLIND. I raced to the Pet ER, but there was an overnight wait. So in the morning (Sat) I took her to Timonium Vet Hospital as an emergency walk-in. I know the vet/owner (he has over 40 yrs of experience) and trust his judgement. He said both corneas were severely scratched. He diagnosed her with large cornea ulcers (5cm) in both eyes, which BLINDED her. He had no doubt it was caused by the groomer, and speculated it was either something toxic in the water, a wire brush, or the high power hose squirted in her eyes. I continued to follow-up with my regular vet/owner of Timonium Animal Hospital and she also diagnosed my puppy with cornel ulcers, caused by the groomer. This doctor is also very experienced with a great reputation. I followed the treatment plan over the next 2 months, which required daily medicine and weekly follow-ups. Both vets agreed the injury came from the groomer, and both said the groomer should pay the bills, which now totaled $1,045.00. The corneal ulcers finally cleared, but she still squints in the sunlight, and will not be medically discharged until she is seen by a dog ophthalmologist. I informed the owner of Shaggy Chic (Jess) what was going on and started emailing the bills to her. Then Jess and her staff got aggressive and started calling and challenging the vets' opinions. They called each vet twice, which made them suspicious that they were trying to tangle them up in a legal case. One of the workers called me to say that based on a conversation with a vet, they now REFUSED to pay the invoices, after initially agreeing to write me a check. This was a total joke because the decision was based on a conversation with the wrong vet who never treated my dog! When I finally spoke with Jess, she dismissed me by saying she would give me their insurance information and I should follow-up myself. I refused. This is a shoddy business practice. When I hand-delivered the invoices to her, she said she would not reimburse me until the insurance company approved the invoices and then paid her first. I said I wanted her to honor the initial offer to write me a check. That would be the right and fair thing to do, and could be resolved in 5 minutes. She laughed me out the door. I am writing this review because I feel obligated to inform and warn this community. They injured my dog, they know it, and refuse to pay me for what they did. They are a band of swindlers and grifters who really don't care about you or your pet. read more

We've been taking our dog to Shaggy Chic for over two years. On our most recent visit, we showed up at 10:50am instead of our scheduled time of 10:30am. This was due to a medical appointment that I had that was running late and caused a slight delay. When I showed up to the groomer, I was told they had to reschedule me because the groomer was too jammed on time to fit us in any longer. OK - no big deal. I was late and I left and we rescheduled the appointment. The next day I was charged $80 cancelation charge on my credit card for two missed appointments (I have two dogs). I called and the business refused to refund us even though we showed up and also rescheduled. read more

I was hoping for a good experience but was disappointed. While the staff was very pleasant and the price was good, the way our dog was returned was shocking. He did not have the cut I asked for whatsoever. I almost thought it was a different dog. I specifically provided her a picture and asked for particulars within reason. But the results I received I was not happy with at all. I doubt we will return. I hated to even post this review but I thought it was only fair to any new comers to warn them. Our dog looks like a completely different dog. Not to mention the nails are still too long and sharp for my liking. I'm used to our pet being returned smelling fresh, a bandana or bow on and more important looking like the dog I left. read more
