I have been researching pet water fountains for my cats & I first went to Petsmart for a stainless steel water fountain. In the store they only had one option for $90 & it didn't have great reviews so I looked at Petco. They had better one by PawPik with both a fountain feature and gentle bubble feature for $44 & they matched the online price of $35! I really like this product & they also had fish filets for cheaper than Petsmart as well as a different assortment of cat toys. Petco is a little far for me as far as driving but I saw they had a lot of deals if you shop online so I'll definitely be checking that out! I had been a customer of the Northridge Petco for 13 years. The same technician did my dogs nail baths and everything until it closed end of 2025. Like a good customer I went to the Porter Ranch Petco and will never go back. The straw that broke me was yesterday. I had booked a vip bath and nails for my dog Penny with the grooming manager, Kianna. She greeted us and we chatted a moment before she handed my dog to a male groom. Didn't ask me if it was OK, just did it. I should have said no, but didn't. My dog has a fear of men, what's why I booked with her. A vip bath entails not putting the dog in a cage but when I was called it was done a scant 30 minutes later he said she was caged and waiting. Picked her up, paid and will never go back. Walking my dog this morning sounded like her nails weren't even done. Petco doesn't even have an email address for customer service. So no complaints ever. Good policy. I stopped by this location yesterday to replenish some dog food and supplements... it was my first time here and I chose it because they were open on Easter (vs one of their competitors). I was grateful for that! They had what I needed and despite a bit of a glitch at the cash register, my experience was positive. The layout of the store is a bit different than some of the others I've been in, (and as others have said, the store is a bit messy), but the staff was helpful and all things considered, my experience was good. My go-to pet supply store. I like taking my dog and my toddler here to just walk around. Honestly it's a bit messy and not always well stocked. But the tall girl with the piercings is an amazing employee who always makes my shopping trip if I get to talk with her! She's so friendly, kind, and most importantly is VERY knowledgeable about the fish, reptiles, and probably much more. She's really sweet to my dog and is just really enjoyable to talk animals with! We called to see if they took walk-ins. They said yes during yappy-hour. We took them in the following day during that time and when they asked for our number they saw we didn't have an account. So we told them we would be happy to set one up. The first she asked if they had their rabies shots and we told her yes and they had their tags on. Then she asked when they expire. We started to give her the dates and then she asked if we had their certificates. Why would they not tell people on the phone to bring that? I think they just didn't feel like doing the nail trims. Very unimpressed. I took my dog here yesterday to get groomed and this is the result. Honestly, feel like I could've done this myself, not only did it take FIVE HOURS. But he literally came out just completely shaved bald. His hair isn't even cut evenly. I came in after 4 & 1/2 hours wondering why they weren't done and you could tell they rushed to finish him. Sad to say this was done by the manager, and I was still charged full price after it taking five hours and causing me to be 30 minutes late to work. Won't be back. read more

I just came from Petco to pick up 3 dogs for a bath. I was told that I had 100 points in rewards but I cant load them on my cell phone. Even their Manager had tried and Tried to load points on my cell phone without luck and stated, "We will keep track of your points for you and when it is time for a free bath, we will tell you." This store should be shut down. They have no business being open. I stopped in yesterday to pick up some cat food and wow. The store was disgusting. Just awful. Boxes and items all over the floor with zero care. The displays were extremely disheveled, zero organization, dirty, dirty, dirty. I almost just walked out were it not for really needing the cat food. Not an employee in site with the exception of two gals who were checking people out. I asked one of the girls if they were moving because of the condition of the store and she said "I wish" she mentioned over half the staff walked out or had been fired. My next stop is to call health and human (animal) services to check on the being of the poor critters, as I would bet if the store is in such a poor state, no way they are caring for the animals. Whomever owns this store or is the district manager should be fired. A bit of advice: perhaps you should pay a higher wage to your employees so they actually stick around and give a care. We just came to look at the animals. (11/27/19) My girlfriend and I don't have pets; we'd like to, but with our current apartment and busy schedules, it's just not feasible. Petco, and other such places, afford us the delightful opportunity to visit with the birds, fish, reptiles, and rodents -- a glimpse into the future (specifically with the birds, I should point out). Judging by some of the reviews here, we seemed to have an advantage over the customers; as browsers, we arrived with no expectations, and we left happy. This was the extent of our visit: we observed the adorable parakeets who were all asleep; we entertained the bearded dragons who likewise entertained us by climbing atop each other and clawing the glass; we observed a guinea pig make a scene in his camp -- culminating to his seeking out a suitable corner to take a guinea dump. Then we went down the aisle of aquariums to look at all the lovely fish. That was it! Could the variety have been better? Sure. But we still had a great time. If we do have pets in the future, we'll probably cruise down the aisles and actually take interest in the merchandise. Until then, we'll just drop in from time to time and say hi to the birdies. read more

Let me be honest here. Me and my friend who recently got a cat made an appointment for the vet clinic in pet co and our experience was horrific. First there is mold all over the ceiling, the employees don't give a single crap about you or your pet. We waited 45 minutes for our appointment because they over booked, once it was our turn they rudely told us they couldn't help us because we didn't have a cat carrier, even though they could have mentioned it during the 45 minutes we waited in line for. One of the employees also made jokes about her not being the best nurse which caused doubt in our minds about this being the right place to take our kitten. Don't even get me started on the vet set up!!! It was just a table in the back of the store where they were giving shots at. It was not safe, sanitary, or practical at all. I had to book an appointment to groom my dog weeks in advance. I booked it for 5:00PM. Two days prior I get an email saying grooming takes 4 hours and they wanted to know if I could come in at three. I said no I have to work I specifically booked the appointment for after work. If you can't take an appointment at five then why do you have appointments available at five? He's a 7lb Yorkie not that much real estate to cover. They didn't respond. The I decided ya know what someone just doesn't want to do the work. I'm not going to risk them hurting my dog so I texted again and cancelled the appointment. 2 seconds later they responded they had canceled the appointment. If you have a dog or cat (or other land dwelling creature) this is a fine store (don't know about the groomers though)! However their fish tanks could look better. Whenever I see a dead fish in an aquarium I wonder if the other fish sharing the tank are sick. Particularly if the fish is floating or looks like they've been dead for a while...as they did here. I didn't go and check every tank but I suspect the three I noticed - all close to each other - were not the exception. The fact they hadn't been removed meant to me that nobody was adequately monitoring their tanks. Horrible experience at the VetCo vaccine clinic inside the Petco Phoenix on 4535 E Thomas Rd. Had an appointment today at 12:54, prior to the appt I received multiple text messages indicating to come early and text "3" upon arrival and wait in the car for a call. After waiting 15 minutes I proceeded inside and was immediately told that I was late and missed my appt and the Doc had already left for lunch. I showed the vet tech my text messages indicating that I was not late and did as instructed. She continued to blame me for being late and there was nothing she could do. Pitiful. I went in to look for a pet carrier to drive my cat cross country. They did not have what I was looking for. As I was walking out, I overheard a mother ask one of the employees, a "manager", if her daughter could use the bathroom. The "manager" refused twice. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but as I was getting in my vehicle, I noticed the mother taking her child behind a bush in front of the store. The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I walked back in the store and asked to speak to a Manager. I was told that the employee was a Manager. I told the employee that when a mother requests the use of a bathroom for a child, the bathroom should be opened. She still refused. At that point, security showed up. The "manager" had called security on the mother for taking her child in front of the store to use the bush after she had refused to let them use the bathroom. I was livid. I told the "manager" I wanted to speak to corporate. At that point she told the security officer that she wanted the cops called on me. Are you kidding me? As I had my own children with me, I thought is best to wait outside until the corporate phone number was brought to me. I couldn't believe it. I never swore or was unprofessional in any way. Is this how Petco trains their employees to deal with upset customers? To call the cops on them? I called Petco Corporate TWICE and asked for a return phone call. I never got it. Just left the store that w/this one receipt on 11/14/21 ( yes I know it's been over 2 week let alone 30 days) I spent $400. In one day. Bird gravel & a green bird beak chipper? Equaling about 20$. The girl w/the attitude took one look at my receipt and said OH NO WAY! She can't refund me because of the company policy. I said I didn't want a refund but only a credit since we spend so much money here. So I said what if I brought these non parsable items back w/out a receipt and just asked for credit. No way! So I asked to speak to the manager and she proudly said I am the store manager! She said her name is SUMMER. I said ok I will take this up with corporate. As I was leaving she said if I call to explain will you tell corporate that she's only following policy. So SUMMER THIS IS FOR YOU AND CORPORATE !!! You all just lost a great customer that spends 1000's of $$$$ a year w/ our bunny farm and dogs. You also for a 20$ credit your competition that's a little further away will get our business ! So here's to your lousy customer service at a time no company can afford. But you could have cared less as I explained my situation. Clearly I'm an older customer but I've had successful retail operations in my life time. Not everything is black and white. There is a grey area and if this is what you use for good customer service. This is the clincher! SUMMER offered to keep my mdse and donate it to a needy organization. As if that's going to affect the company bottom line. I could do that myself. I usually take my dog here for grooming and we've had great experiences so far. Only thing is that the young lady who rang me out for 2 items was a bit rude. She has pink bangs and I believe is named Summer. When she rang me up she seemed like she was in a bad mood. Once I paid I had asked for a bag for my two items because I had walked there. She responded by rolling her eyes, sighing deeply and then aggressively opened a bad and tossed my items in. I had my 5 year old son with me and when we left even he asked what her deal was. Not so sure as to why they would employ someone like that but I have to go back to pick up my dog and I'm dreading to have her check me out for it. Set the whole mood off. The customer service at the Petco on 44th st, Phoenix is horrible. IF you can find anyone, and that includes up at the register, you are pointed to an aisle and not walked to the item you are looking for. The last couple times I've went, no one is at the register, and I've had to call out that I'm ready to check out. Once, I had to walk over to the little room up front and interrupt the two employees sitting there talking. I shouldn't have to wait until someone decides to come to the register so Petco can take my money. read more

5 stars for the grooming salon! I took my girl Zoe there for the first time yesterday. It's been hard for me to find a groomer that will take their time with our golden doodle. Zoe did have some matting and was pretty long but Kelsey did a phenomenal job with her cut! She was able to keep her longer all over and her face looks great! I was in Petco this morning, and was quite surprised to discover that they now charge .10 for a plastic bag. When I asked if I would be charged for a bag if I placed an order on-line and picked it up, I was told no. Why the difference in policy? Isn't this discriminatory? Isn't is more expensive to have a store employee pull an order for pick up then for a customer to shop for themselves? Yet, Petco penalizes the customer who comes into the store to shop by charging them for a bag. This doesn't make any sense. When I questioned the cashier about this policy, the response was "I just work here". This is a very disappointing new policy. I may start to shop elsewhere. read more

I started going to Petco because Petsmart doesnt carry the Nature Made/Brand line. I won a years supply when I went to the Pet Expo a few months ago. The store in general is clean. But dont know if I'd buy fish from here. When Baby C and I walked by...there were at least 3 tanks with dead fish on the bottom. Some with the other fish eating on the dead fish. I was in this afternoon picking up hay for my bunny. There was dog poop on the floor inside that was obviously from a large dog. Two employees walked by and did nothing. One employee told a little girl with a tiny chihuahua to pick it up, it clearly wasn't from her dog based on the size. The employee walked away after the little girl said it wasn't from her dog but she ended up finding the bags and cleaning it up anyway. I was shocked at the dog owner that left the mess behind and shocked the employees made that little girl clean it up. Disgusting!! read more

I've been in a total of three times, the first was an experience I'll never forget, I just got into aquariums and was told that I could just throw my fish in an unestablished tank. All $60 of those fish died. Second time the worker was snotty and acted like they were the king. Now this time I waited for 30 minutes for help, after I was ignored by the girl with blue hair that was horrible to a mom and her kids, then proceeded to cuss up a storm because the phone was ringing and runs off when I'm standing there waiting. i ordered this on line and then my order got canceled. I called they replaced my order and gave me a discount due to the inconvenience, the call took over 1 hour and 30 min just for a $30 dollar discount. after they placed my new order i was happy to have gotten help. after i hung up i got an email stating that my new order was canceled. I called them again and they could not offer an explanation why my order was canceled and no other options to resolve my problem. I asked to speak to a manager and it turns out none of them were available and i would have to wait 24 to 48 hours for one to call me back..the second call took 58 min..... worst customer service i have ever experienced!!!! I took my dog to the grooming salon yesterday. I had never been to a Petco for this service before. I had a new client coupon so I figured I would try it out. Unfortunately my dogs haircut was not what I asked for. I showed her a photo of my dog's previous haircut and asked for a little bit shorter on her mane area and they took it all off! I'm pretty unhappy with how her mane looks, however they did a nice job on the body and she smelled great which is why they get two stars. Sadly, I won't be returning. read more

I have a love hate relationship with this store. For picking up dog treats etc they are good, the handful of fish I've bought here died rather quickly and the '50' live crickets I buy frequently end up being about 25 live, 25 already dead. I tried the dog training here as well, the trainer was great and knowledgeable but the training area is at the entrance of the store. Between the high traffic and noises and weekly pet adoptions happening during training time - it was impossible for my pup to focus during class rendering it useless. If you have a dog you're purposely training to ignore distractions maybe this would work but not for any basic training. There aren't any other pet stores that I've found in the area that cover my needs (fish, puppy and bearded dragon supplies) so I do return for convenience. read more
