Not my regular Petco, but if I happen to be out on SE Division going to the Roman Russian Deli down the street, I stop in if I have items to purchase. The store is clean, well organized and has everything I need. Petco as a chain is everywhere and it's so convenient! I definitely have two "regular" locations based on proximity to where I run my errands, but if I am out and about and see a Petco and have my empty kitty litter jug in the car, I go in and fill up. I went to the one at 12020 SE Division St Portland, OR 97266... I piled my 8 small dogs into the car. 6 puppies had been scheduled online for full vaccinations. When I tell you it was chaos getting them all into the car, you have NO IDEA. We even left early to get there early but still got there a little late. But since we had all 6 of them booked I figured we could at the very least have gotten 5 or even 4 seen. We struggled to load them into the store via one basket and three trips to the car. Had to buy a new leash for one because it somehow mysteriously disappeared into the backseat on the way to the store. As per usual, the front counter people in customer service were super nice. The people in the vet branch... not so much. There was one woman who was really sweet and I wished I'd gotten her name but more on her later. Throughout the visit, one of them kept coming up to me and asking questions, which is perfectly fine. "What sort of vaccinations?" I said, "all of them." I would have filled the form out online but there was some sort of glitch that wasn't letting me put them through. But I did specify the nature of the appointment online when I made it. The more she came up the more frustrated she got and even complained about one of my puppies' "secretions" onto her arm like it was the worst thing in the world. Now, mind you, there were about 5 of these women working at the vet. And they were freaking out rather quickly about my 6 puppies being too much for them. And I kinda get it. 6 puppies is a lot to deal with. But these are vets... they train for this sort of thing. Don't they? And there were 5 of them. When I left the ladies to do what they do and came back around, come to find they hadn't done anything. They were just standing around them talking. I asked if they were done with the vaccinations and they claimed they didn't know which ones to give them. Then they told me that because I was late they wouldn't be able to see ANY of the puppies and that they had to see other clients and that I would have to leave. Two in particular were really rude about it and I called one of them out on it. In that entire time they could have been giving them their vaccinations and they were just standing around talking angrily. The nice one asked if I needed help loading them back into the car and I accepted, thanking her. We spoke on the way. I told her about how the ma got pregnant because the vet I brought her to as a pup refused to spay her as she had a growth that would complicate things. And one day there was a stray dog running around our complex that I brought in. I separated them, saw a tag, called the number, and waited for a response. At one point I was taking a shower and he hopped the enclosure, and that is when it happened. But that I plan on keeping them and moving to the countryside where they can live freely and happily. I just wanted to get them all their shots first because I plan to go at the end of the month. And sometimes getting vet appointments can be tough. She understood. In any case, I always loved bringing my dogs to that store. And I won't stop. I just won't ever be using their vet services again. I wonder how professional these people really are that they can't hold themselves together under pressure, even dealing with 6 chi-mix five month old puppies. But thank you to the other staff and to the nice vet with the long black hair who was kind to me. You were much appreciated. read more

Incredibly disappointed. This is the second time they have majorly messed up my Pomeranians groom. Both times we showed them a picture of how we want her cut We wanted them to trim up her body & leave her head & tail fluffy. Each time they cut her head as short as the rest of her body. She's not a tiny Pom so she looks RIDICULOUS. Her head looks smaller than body First time it happened I was irritated but thought it was a one-off. This time I'm furious! I know that Drew (The Animal Lead) is doing everything he can to fight petcos deeply wrong animal standards but Jen (Animal Specialist) is consistently neglecting every animal there and causing a variety of diseases across almost all of the animals in this store. I've been told reporting won't do anything but fr Jen this ones for you: Do the animals a favor and find another line of work. The dog groomer used clippers on my dogs scrotum, which resulted in an infection/dermatitis which resulted in a $500 emergency vet bill. I thought he had scrotum cancer it was so bad. I contacted Petco and sent them the vet statement that it was caused by clippers and all other invoices and pics. They haven't reached back out to me to offer reimbursement. Management is horrible. I've called to check up but they won't connect me with management. They just say all the documents went to corporate and it's out of their hands. Horrible. It's been almost a month now and done waiting. You all deserve to know that they don't fix their errors or stand by their service even with strong proof they were in error. 4 stars for the store over all, just because the collar and leash section is always lacking. The toys are loaded up for the holidays but can be sparse in between. I haven't seen the giant tennis balls in a while either, which is a bummer. The small animal section is pretty small and there aren't many toys or hideaways for rodents. This review is in regards to the VetCo service. I just returned from an appointment at this location where I found they were refusing to vaccinate my 1.5 year old cat due to notes in her file from last year. Although I had made an appointment and taken time off of work and traveled to this location (the VetCo was not at my local Petco) no one could have bothered to tell me they were no longer willing to give my cat shots. Having me drive across town and taking time off of work and then refusing service - that really isn't acceptable. In addition, I recall the initial incident as I was present; the vet assistant was clearly inexperienced. After the first shot, my cat reacted to the needle of the second one and scratched the inexperienced attendant. I'm not sure how they would have expected an animal to react while being stabbed with a sharp object, but I would have been certain to secure the cat. Due to this incident, the inexperienced assistant wrote a notation in my pet's file that basically says Vetco won't help her anymore. This was not communicated to me, and that's not ok either. Bottom line, I now have to wait several more weeks to take my cat to a full service vet and take even more time off of work. read more

Our dog was too anxious to get groomed the first time we brought him in. Staff suggested CBD to calm him. We eventually found an option that worked for him, and brought him in. They asked if he was on any meds or supplements and I said CBD. They refused to groom him, stating the policy is they cannot groom animals that have CBD in their system. When I made the appointment, no information about such a rule was given- not on the website where you book it, the email nor text confirmation. If you're going to create a new policy, you should inform people of it. read more

on the day before christmas eve a nice lady was helping me pick out supplies for hermit crabs for my daughters but the lady told me because it was after 7 p.m., an hour before they close, she told me they wouldn't sell me live pets and that i could back tomorrow and purchase them. but that was untrue because the sale had ended that night and they didn't have the same hermit crabs with the sale of buy one get one free. the sales rep didn't advise me the sale would be over the following day. two days later i went in to get what i needed and ma middle-aged balding man named tod was helping me and i was getting all sale items. then all of a sudden it was if a switch was flipped inside him, he was carrying some of my items. he put them down and said that i couldn't buy anything and he was kicking me out of store. out of nowhere he said i could not make any purchases and i had to leave the store immediately and i was so shocked i didn't know what to do or why this was happening. i have video of him following me all the way to the door and making sure i left. i will add the video later and edit the video. read more

Long story short: sold me fish. Fish died. I did everything I was supposed to (tested water twice, took pics of everything) but never kept receipt (who returns fish?). Spoke to management several times and was told my fish would be replaced. Mind you, I am a preschool teacher an these fish were for our classroom. Went to get new fish and then I was told-NOPE, even after they were able to find my transaction in the register computer. Everyday my kids are asking "where are our new fish?" I did not use my corporate card to purchase anything for these fish, I paid all out of pocket, and putting out another $60 for new fish is a lot for me. Called customer service and told I would have a response within 48 hours. It's been well over 48 hours and still nothing. Thanks Petco. read more

This was absolutely the worst hair cut my dog had EVER gotten. I said it was okay to shave some dread my dog had behind her ears and on the back of her legs and it was done horribly! I have brought her to another groomer with a similar amount of dreads and they were shaved off and the rest of her long hair was brushed and left as is. I was alarmed at how bad it looked, ALL of the hair on the back of her legs was shaved off and the hair around her ears was horribly uneven. I was unhappy with the way it looked, but I knew it was going to grow out so I was going to let it slide (but NEVER come back). Later that day I realized that a huge chunk was taken out of her tail without even an attempt at making it look natural, huge chunks were taken out behind her ears all the way down to her skin without even an attempt to make it look somewhat acceptable, and the final straw was a chunk of her paw that was cut off/shaven off causing her pain and a limp. Not only am I going to demanding a refund, am NEVER going to bring my dog back to Petco, but I am writing this review to hopefully save any future pet owners from the absolutely horrendous and unsafe care that was provided to my dog. read more

And even though she was pulled away by many customers, Their new manager Amy gave me her full attention and I left there with all my needs met. I really love this place. Last month, I went to this store with my Shih Tzu, small dog. They charged me $64.99 for the basic grooming. I was happy with that price. Today, I went back again with another pet (the same size, the same age because this dog and the first dog is the same litter). Today, Molly charged me $100.99 with the reason is that it took more hour to take care my dog. She told me that because I already sighed off the paper before the service that why I have to pay. Yes, I signed off without looking at the price because I thought the price today is the same with the price they charged me last month. I came here 4 times with the same price of $64.99. I did not know that Molly would charge me more almost $40 . That why I signed off without looking at the price. Molly said that it took more hours to do grooming for my dog. It does not make sense because today they called me pick off after 2.5 hours I dropped off my dog. Last month, the service took 3.5 hours, they price was $64.99. I bought 10 neon tetra at the Petco on 122nd in Portland. There were only 10 alive in the tank. I did make mental note that there were 4 dead at the bottom of their tank... I've purchased fish at a different Petco before, and on my way out the door with a bowl-o-betta, the female assisting me said if it dies within 30 days, bring it back and we'll give you a new one. She made no mention of needing a water to make that happen. Luckily, the betta survived but 5 of the 10 neon tetra didn't. They were dead in the bag by the time I arrived home. This was a Sunday. I remember the "aquatic professional Da" telling me that they'd be getting more on Friday. I purposely wait until Friday and take my bagful of decaying fish back so get replacements. Nope... Their Manager, Karen or Ken (we have not used his/her real name) said that I could receive neither a refund NOR a replacement until I brought in some water from my tank. I advised his that the fish in question never made it into my tank. They were DOA, so what was the water for? He agreed that it didn't make any sense, but even so HE NEEDED THAT WATER! Not willing or able to think outside the box like the good little Karen/Ken he was, or even on the off-chance it just might keep a customer, he stuck to his guns and said: "WATER!". Unbelievable. Petco, do you really not allow your management to think outside the box? I had to leave with out any new live fish, and he refused a return. I came to this Petco to get my 3-month old kitten vaccinated and microchipped since many of the vets in my neighborhood had long wait times and had a great experience here. Making an appointment and checking in was easy, plus the vet techs were extremely friendly and quick. There was a bit of a wait one weekend for her boosters, but it wasn't a big deal. It's a bit of a small location and there was significantly more dog products than cat products, but it was clean. New location! The Petco that was on 144th and Division has now moved to 122nd and Division right next to the Crunch Gym. My wife and I stopped by to look at their selection of dog treats and fish food. The parking lot of the little strip mall this is located in can be a bit busy so drive carefully and be vigilant for pedestrians and bad drivers. There is however plenty of parking spots to choose from. The front entrance of the store is clean and inviting. This is basically a brand new store with new employees I have not met at the previous store. Along with pet supplies this Petco also offers grooming services and dog training classes. They have a good selection of dog food and treats and the same goes for cats. The aquarium supply is decent with a variety of food and equipment. While they did have some fish tanks there wasn't any larger sized aquariums to be had. They offer both salt water and tropical freshwater dishes for sale. The tanks seem to be decently cared for and the fishes healthy. The restroom was clean and easy to find in the back of the store. Overall, the store felt a little bit small, but it was very clean and well maintained. The workers were also friendly and eager to help which is always a plus. I will definitely be coming back here for my pet needs. The prices in dog food and aquarium supplies is competitive and they did have some items on sale at a decent value. This is our neighborhood Petco and we have been shopping here for our 3 cats since it has opened years ago. In November, we got a new puppy called Yoshi and realized that he is much smarter than all of us combined and worse than that, he has unlimited amounts of energy. We signed up for the first round of puppy training classes with Kayla P. and we have all come away with so many new skills and a newfound appreciation for the work and dedication that goes into training a puppy. Kayla is upbeat, fun, flexible with her schedule, knowledgable and a real pleasure to work with. Our whole family enjoyed going to the classes and Yoshi adored Kayla. As soon as Yoshi would hear Kayla's voice, he would get so excited to see his friend! We are signed up for the next set of classes in a few weeks and cannot wait to see what Kayla can teach us all! This is my neighborhood location, and I probably drop in here once every two weeks or so. I am always seeking quality cat food at good prices. I would say that 95% of the staff go out of their way to help when I need it. In fact, I can only think of one staffer who copped an attitude when I asked about a promotion, so I just changed the review from three to four stars. However, Petco's prices are really out of control. I haven't made a purchase here in several months. At one time, there were coupons and promotions and a variety of other ways to save, but despite being on their email list, it has been difficult to offset their inflationary prices. This review is for Petco Grooming services. Used to take my toy maltipoo here for a bath and haircut from his favorite groomer Makayah C. He loved her and we've always had a good experience. Unfortunately she moved to a different state. He then saw another groomer at a different location, but she was also booked out, so we had to book with a new groomer Jessica M. When she came out, she didn't introduce herself or say anything to let us know she was his groomer. She just walked toward him to put the grooming leash on. I felt that she had a standoffish attitude but went with it. 2 hours into the appointment I received a call that he was aggressive and tried to bite the brush and Jessica's hand. My dog has never had issues biting and is super friendly with everyone. She said he is supposed to be banned from Petco Grooming due to this incident. I asked if there were ever any notes about this type of behavior, because none of his previous groomers at Petco have ever mentioned anything to me. She said there was no record of it, but of course if they "handled" him then they wouldn't keep note of it, and there's a "reason why they no longer work there." There was also a note for my dog to see Makayah only. I previously agreed with Makayah to put in this note a few years ago. He was a puppy then, and she said consistency with the same groomer would help him get used to a new environment. Jessica said that note was because Makayah groomed aggressive dogs, so that note implies that my dog is aggressive. If my dog is so aggressive, I highly doubt other groomers would have just not said anything. In the past, I've even watched him through the window while he was groomed by Makayah or other groomers. He was always obedient and gave occasional kisses. I know that my toy maltipoo is not the type to get aggressive. He has had toddlers scream, pull his fur, and (play) hit him without ever reacting. Whenever he is scared, he just runs and hides rather than attacking. When I picked him up from Petco Grooming, his heart was racing and he quickly got into my arms and tried to frantically climb up my shoulders. This is what he does when he is scared. Whatever demeanor I felt from Jessica, he must've felt it too. There were also some big dogs in the back barking pretty loudly, and even she said they were hard to handle. Clearly something about the atmosphere made him uncomfortable, and he wasn't handled with care. We were only charged for a bath, but his fur was a mess! Jessica said she was only able to brush down his back. He went in without any tangles with nice, soft fur and came back frizzy with knots and tangles. I had to cut off some knots from his tail and paws. He was very on edge from this experience for 1-2 hours. I am completely horrified. I've been taking him to Petco Grooming since there aren't many independent groomers near me, but I'd rather travel further out if it means he'll get proper care! read more

The trainer, Kayla, is fantastic! you can tell she really cares about her animal homies. sad to only have one class this session, but looking forward to the next. The store is always a mess there's always boxes everywhere. We go there when we have an emergency cause petsmart is further. I've had a few different experiences here. Yesterday I brought my corgi in for a nail trim after calling and making an appointment over the phone. The groomer was super helpful and polite, did a great job. The cashier was also very helpful and quick! Overall, I think this location is improving and I will definitely be back! read more

She walked away so I decided to leave not making a purchase because they didn't have anything I was looking for and as I am backing up the same girl came out with her phone and took my picture I parked and got out saying excuse me why are you taking my picture she didn't answer just went inside so I ask went inside and asked to speak to a manager and again asked why she took my picture still no answer and was told manager was in the back I asked again for the manager and they did not get them . There was another employee a guy looking at me telling me I needed to leave and staring at my purse like I stole something the reason they took my picture was because I didn't purchase anything wtf am I suppose to buy when they don't have anything I am looking for. Not a good location. Some amazing employees but some horrible ones, too. Management is pretty horrible. Aquatics department is plain depressing to see; lots of dead fish. As a former employee I can say that working at this location was unsafe and unhealthy both physically and mentally. The 'ethics' that Petco supposedly stands by are not truthful as I witnessed first-hand a racist act of hate against an employee with no support from management or HR. The grooming salon is severely understaffed and all employees jobs store-wide are threatened when they do not meet store sales goals. The bathrooms are never clean and there is always pee on the floor from people who don't clean up after their pets. If you are going to shop for your pet, please support a business that genuinely cares for you, your pet, and their employees! read more

Kayla is so knowledgeable, great at demonstrating and explaining the various training techniques and was always willing to answer any questions I had during the training. My puppy always enjoyed each class, and he and I have learned so much. I would definitely recommend taking a training class from Kayla. read more
