When I was asking the associate, Daniel, about a refund, he just cut me off and told me to have a nice day as he walked away. My girlfriend then goes to ask the cashier (Robert) to speak to a manager, and he was just as rude to her, not even bothering to offer to help her after his transaction. I would at least like to leave a positive review to Dustin, the assistant manager, for going above and beyond to rectify the situation. He was extremely polite and personable, and his service is the only reason we will continue to shop here. read more

In addition, my VET office told me that Hill's dog food accepts even half used dog food. The on-line service absolutely needs more customer service training. I received and order on line July 9th and am requesting a refund/exchange for another brand of food. My current Hills Prescription K/D is not working out for my dog, i want to try the Royal Canin Kidney food. Was told a flat out not able to return, exchange or refund . . .. Petco in mission valley that is attached to the thrive has been great in finding rx foods for my pup. Although, it's not the largest I seen to always find great gifts for other fur baby parents and rx food my guy needs. It's been a roller coaster finding the right food so it's so amazing that Petco is so understanding when I find out after purchasing something that it doesn't work with his diet or he hates they take it back. Being a member they are easily able to find my purchase and do a return if need be. I have found a few other locations that have a larger selection, but this is always my go to store. WARNING::: I would say the grooming department isn't very reliable always due to staffing. It's hard to make an appointment and even get anyone on the grooming department to answer the phone. I have also had a handful of appointments canceled due to staff members unable to come for their shift. Also, as a long standing member it's pretty annoying that Petco grooming prices keep spiking and the typical package I get continues to change raising the price and cutting out services I have received gotten all this time is frustrating as I never find out until I am at the appointment after services have been rendered and I ask a question. That's when I find out some service has been dropped for a package. I love the store but would give the grooming 2/5 on overall service. read more

Today my goldendoodle got his first puppy haircut. It went terrible. I asked for a trim around the eyes so he could see, trim his coat a bit, and his private areas. Well my adorable curly teddy bear came out looking like a completely different dog. His face did not match his body. Ontop of that it took over 2.5 hrs, when I was told it would be no more than 1.5 hrs. This was my first visit and this may be normal but to me when you walk in with a cute dog and walk out with something different I think there is an issue. I asked for a groomer who had experience with goldendoodles, and Allison did not. I am extremely not satisfied and will not be returning. Not sure how she could think this was an acceptable cut. I go to this location for training and socials and I enjoy it but the grooming experience really negatively affected the overall experience. I asked if he left a message and replied with an inexcusable no. Apparently the groomer no longer works there and he "tried" calling all the bookings. I'm glad I didn't reschedule here as the other interactions with guests and no apology for the cancellation or no follow up is astounding. Please retrain staff basic customer service. read more

Best visit yet! (See photos) Petco has always been my pet store for as long as I have had pets. I have been a very loyal Petco customer from my first kitten Missy 14 years ago. Its my go to store for toys, kitty litter to the hundreds of pounds of pet food I used buy every few months.... I had a lot of furbabies to feed and they had a 200# food program! This location is the closet to my current home, and I have nothing but good things to say. The first thing of course is the 2 minute drive from my house. The store is located on the corner of the strip mall, which is nice, but parking is always busy with Starbucks across the way and the exit. This location is always clean and stocked with everything I need. The staff is always helpful and friendly, especially the employee Margaret who is always happy checking out customers. On a visit, I forgot my printed 20% off total purchase Pals reward coupon and she hooked a girl up! The last thing, they always have a sale! This visit, I needed to get more cat food, cause my two girls seem to be packing it away for the winter.... They obviously don't know they're in San Diego now. Luckily they're cat food is not super expensive and it was on sale. Yay! On my way to the checkout, I catch the Christmas clearance, 75% off original price! I never buy my cats toys cause they never seem to like conventional cat toys... but at 75% off, why not grab a few items. I made out like a bandit with two cat hats (a Santa hat and a reindeer hat), a boxed variety toy pack, 6pk jingle feather balls, and 2pk catnip mice.... all for under $8 with tax! Awesomeness!!! Just made my third attempt, and failed, to renew my prescription card for my pets prescription diet food. My first time in there was no one at the desk for 15 minutes... My second time in two days ago I waited 30 minutes and all the woman at the front dad was chitchat like crazy and I got impatient and left. Just now, I actually started the process and every time the woman at the desk started to work on my prescriptions. She stopped to wait on other customers who were coming and going. I asked her why she kept stopping, completing the task when I had been waiting forever and she said well this is really important... Obviously, stating that my transaction is not!!! The puppy play time is the best thing that happens here! The staff who manage it are VERY friendly and knowledgeable. 4 stars just for the puppy play time staff. Today however I went to puppy play time. I noticed when my puppy was playing, she was sliding across the floor. So I decided to get her nails trimmed. I had gone to another groomer previously, and they charged $30 for a lil pup. Here was literally half the price... wash, dry, facial, and cleaning the butt. You have to show your vaccinations, so I had to go to the car and get it. They told me about 2-3 hours and that's it. I'm driving home, and half way home I get a call stating that they forgot to give me paperwork to sign so I need to come back to sign it... I'm irritated. I go in and the paper is waiting for me, already highlighted and ready to go. I sign, and as I sign the last signature on the page, the lady comes out and apologizes. I was pretty curt with her and said "is that it" and she said yes and I was on my way home. Fast forward about 2 hours and I get a voicemail that she's ready. They said that I have to pay at the register. So I walk towards the register, but was distracted by the toys in the aisle. As I start to pick a few toys, one of the groomers gives me my baby She's in panic mode. She's antsy, in distress. As I wait in line, a woman starts talking to me about what kind of pup I have. My baby ends up peeing on the floor. Now I'm stressed. I have 4 items in my hand, my purse, my groomers paper with the totals, and I'm holding my dogs leash! The woman who was speaking to me tells the cashier that my dog has had a accident. The cashier yells over the register to the woman "there's napkins and paper towels over there" my eyes widened thinking... what the fuck. Cheers to great customer service!!! read more

Be aware of fraudulent charges. When checking out, I was asked by the clerk (Elle) if I'd like to make a donation. I said no. When I got home, my receipt showed that I had been charged a $2 donation. I called the store and spoke with Elle and explained the situation. At no time did she apologize or say that this might have been an error. Nor did she accept any responsibility for this. Her only solution was for me to drive 20 minutes back to the store to get a credit. She seemed surprised that this was not something that I wanted to do, and she was rude throughout the call. I suspect that these charges are often added and not caught because people don't check their receipts. I have no problem donating to worthy charities, but I prefer to choose my own and make the donations myself so that I know where my money is going. This Petco is clearly trying to pad their donations. Shop carefully if you use them. read more

I signed up for the vital care plan at the encouragement of the staff there with a dog I had adopted from the pound. Unfortunately I wound up being severely allergic to him and had to return him. I was able to get a hypoallergenic dog and reps at the store "can't help transfer" the vital care points I had already earned due to the exorbitant amount of money I had already spent and said I needed to contact vital care. Well vital care refuses to help. I am being told I have to cancel my membership and resign up for a new one losing all the points I have there. Why can I add but not remove a dog? I will not be going to petco anymore and will be canceling all training and vital care memberships if this is not corrected immediately. I was awakened today at 5:36 AM by my dogs cornering a skunk in my yard, that came up from the canyon. All 3 got direct hits and were sprayed...and our regular groomer is closed Sun/Mon! Of course, Murphy's Law. So I called Petco at 9, and even though they had a full day of appointments, they had us come in at 11:30a. No This is my first time having an animal as an adult. This kitty came to my doorstep several weeks back. So I made this Kitty my Emotional support animal. I made an appointment here because Online it said first appt free, plus I had a $25 coupon off. I know nothing about the animal. My plan is to get insurance for the kitty, but I did not know the kitties weight, breed, age or anything, let alone knew if she had been vaccinated before. Never went through this process, as it was all new to me, I wasn't ready to get her vaccinated was waiting to get the info on her so I could place her on my insurance, I checked her in and told them the reason I was there, they had called me earlier to ask if I could come earlier and I couldn't because I was taking the bus, which took me about 3 hours to get there, I told them it was for a wellness check, so he told me to wait on the side and the woman there were a little rude to me not very informative and kinda brushed off the fact that I did not want to get her vaccinated yet, just to make sure the cats basic info to come back and have everything set up. Kinda wish they would have told me over the phone that they did not do wellness checks, when he initially called and I told him why I was coming in, i tried calling back several time before I arrived and got no answer. I just took in a stray cat, when I got her she was weeks old, lady tried to tell me that she was an adult cat without looking at her teeth, without even looking at her period, the kitty has 4 teeth, none fell out since she has been in my care so I know she is not an adult yet. For someone to have brought in a stray they could have been a little more nicer and informative on what i needed to do instead of keep wanting me to pay for vaccinations, If i knew i had to take her to a vet hospital first i would have...that was not my main reason on coming in today. Came to this store's location today (6/19/23) on my way home to go pick up my pup. I walked in and was impressed with all the different brands of food and how it was organized, everything was pretty easy to find. As I picked up the last bag of food I wanted, I realized I was going to need a cart. I walked towards the front and realized they were outside the store. I set the bag down on a display ( still well within the store), to grab a cart. As soon as I stepped foot out the door, a younger male employee, (shorter, red hair) immediately stepped over to where I had set the bag and yanked it to pick it up. I looked at him not sure if he was a customer or employee and said, "oh sorry, I'm going to buy that I just needed to get a cart." to which he retorted, "I'll just hold it up at the front." UH WHAT? WHY? no explanation, he just walked away. I work in Little Italy so I get that people coming in to take/ disrupt business potentially happen, but he acted like he fully expected me to steal the food. Could you not have just held it for me until I re-entered the store with my cart 5 feet away? I went about the rest of my shopping and grabbed everything else I needed to pick up. Finally made it back to the front to checkout and was just very surprised at the attitude this kid was giving off. I'm assuming he's in high school or must have just graduated because, the level of "I don't want to be here" was DEAFENING. Do not bring your dog to this location if he/she is elderly or has a physical handicap. This Petco location will refuse to perform grooming services on your dog. Very sad that Petco does not accommodate dogs that are older (usually the ones most in need of grooming services) or physically challenged. I have been a loyal customer to this location for my dog's grooming needs for over 12 years. Now that my dogs are older, today Petco management informed me that they will refuse to perform the services that they have received their entire life, simply because they are now senior dogs... I have been here 3 times in a month. The last couple times we were here we waited in the aquarium area for 30 minutes before a staff member helped us. There was only 1 person working in the cashier and we had to go up front to ask for help. She was calling for help through the speakers but no one came out of the back room. We could see people walking back there, but no one was getting out of there. This last time same thing...only 1 person at the cash register we were waiting along with many others for help so we eventually left without being helped. Now my last experience with a guy names Nate was completely different nice guy but seemed pretty out of it and definitely needs to get more practice on how to cut hair. It's rough trying to find a place that caters to bunnies, so I'm usually stuck having to shop here in Mission Gorge. Not a bad option at all. They have everything from cages, rabbit food, rabbit toys, etc.... Only real bummer is the area of town. Traffic is always such a bitch. A bit disappointed in the service at this location. I came in to buy food for my pup and decided to walk into the Groomers office to make an appointment for my dog. It would be his first visit to this Petco for a grooming service, so I decided to bring in his recent rabies shot in case they asked. The front desk lady took note and scheduled us for an appointment for the next morning. The following morning, my boyfriend went to take him to his appointment and apparently they couldn't find any record of his appointment (even though I specifically went in to make the appointment in person). They never specified they needed his additional shots, or asked for it when I first when in to make the appointment. A waste of 30 minutes in the morning, especially if you're in a rush to just drop off the dog and head to work. This visit was very unprofessional. In addition, I'm the least satisfied with his haircut. It was a poor job, like they were in a rush and didn't take the time to make sure his hair was cut properly and evenly. This review is for Grooming ~ I have been taking my pomeranian there for about two years now. I neither love it nor hate it there. It just serves its purpose and that's about it. I drop off my dog, and a couple hours later I pick her up. So far all of my experiences with them have been good. My dog does come back looking and smelling fabulous. I'm not a huge fan of the price, but apparently its within range of the norm? My dog is small, she's probably about 5lbs these days. I get her a bath, lion cut, nail clipping, and add on some teeth brushing as well... (I think they call it the "works" package).... the end result - about $52. geez. FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS!?!? ugh... i started to just take her in there once every two months now that I'm not longer on balla' status. They have that Petco rewards thing where if you do 8 groomings within 12 months, then you'd get one free... but F that... I would not be willing to take her in that often and spend $400 just to get ONE measly free bath/cut. Nevermind that, it 'd be better if they just had discounted pre-paid packages (like pre-pay 7 grooms for $300)... then you'll know i'm definitely coming back! hmm... I also noticed that they stopped putting bows in her hair about a year ago. what's up with that. If them bows are part of the $52 I'm paying... then I'd like my friggin bows please. Prices are not too unreasonable, I have a big girl so for me not to have to wrestle and shave her, it is worth it. My dog is happy to see her groomer Crystal very time. She smells nice and clean and is happy to come home. I've read some of the reviews about people showing up just before the salon closing without an appointment being turned away because the staff went home. Manage your expectations and plan your visits. Just like with my hairdresser, I book my dog in for her next appointment after each grooming. The parking lot is a pain.
