My family has been buying from this Petco for 18 years! We used to live on 2nd and Montana. I am a teacher at Franklin Elementary School. I have tons of class pets, two hamsters and now a snake (post fires)! I even have a rabbit that hops around all day long. My students love my animals! I had to take in another hamster due to the palisades fires because that's where I had lived for the past 15 years, and this hamster was my daughter's pet. When we evacuated we had to throw pets in smaller containers and couldn't take all of the pet supplies. A parent in 2nd grade class happily went to Petco, last Thursday to pick up some hamster supplies for me because I have been busy looking for a new place to live. The hamster ball was too large and when I went to exchange it, I was told NO. They refused to exchange the ball or give store credit b/c I had no receipt. I asked the mom, but she had thrown it away. My husband decided to go in today and try to talk to a reasonable person about getting store credit for a 39.99 hamster ball. Three employees treated him HORRIBLY as if he was trying to scam the store. The Petco employees said fire victims were taking advantage of PETCO with returns. We never wanted a return. We just wanted to exchange the large wheel for a smaller one and anything over the 39.99 to be put toward hamster and bunny supplies lost in the fires. We will nolonger frequent any PETCO and will be sure to let people know how they treat honest teachers and honest people. Pet Smart has been nothing but kind!!!!! So, the other day I had to make a simple return. At the register, I might mention, the only person...to include, the long line of customers. Gad! Wow! The line is moving. Quickly, too. I look over. Same person at register. No one added. I'm next. That was fast. ALICIA! At register. My simple return?! Made, simpler. Wait! What? I'm heading out of Petco..feeling good. Wow. The male working grooming today, 3/5, was so rude to us over the phone as we were trying to reschedule our dogs anal gland appointment. Getting their anal glands squeezed takes one minute to do. We just asked to push her appointment back by an hour and he was extremely short and rude. He offered no other times or dates for us to reschedule. I was in the middle of asking about another appointment time and he hung up on me. Will never return here. No reason to deal with people who are so unnecessarily rude and miserable. This was a quick stop for me on a weekday afternoon. I was picking up some supplies for my dog, and I found this Petco closest to me at the time. For it being rush hour in West LA, parking was not hard to come by in their lot. I appreciated that. The store was somewhat busy, but I was able to find everything I was looking for and check out in a timely manner. There were several people with their dogs here, and a few other pets as well. There is a plethora of items here, and you can buy some pets here as well. I found this Petco to be as well-stocked and decently run as other one's I've been to. It's the typical petco chain. It's also the larger one in the Santa Monica area. One thing I distinctly noticed from my recent visit was that there were a lot of items not in stock: from dog kibbles, dog accessories (collars, leash etc), and even dog mats/beds. I'm not sure if it's an overall supply chain issue or if the store has not kept up with its inventory. Otherwise, not a big deal on that visit. There's free parking in the back. read more

Very poor experience at this location yesterday. I found the staff very unhelpful and a bit rude. I was not able to even complete a sentence when asking a question. Raymond uses the title "MANAGER" to decide whether or not he wants to perform a task or not and then goes back on his word. I've been an attorney for 15 years and such disrespectful, unprofessional and classless treatment towards my family and loyal customers very much appalls me. DO NOT SHOP here if you care about your pets and product. Very dissatisfied with the poor etiquette of Raymond who should not be the store manager nor work for the chain. We came in with an under 30 days return with receipt but the manager RAYMOND denied our return based on the fact that I did not want to join Pals rewards and the bag of dog food which made my dog ill was 3.5Ibs full instead of 5Ibs. He went back on his word when he said he would return it and then changed his mind, ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Raymond is not professional and is not suitable to be manager nor work for Petco. He does not accommodate loyal customers. We will be reporting this incicdent to corporate as loyal costumers for over 10 years. Rude, unprofessional and disrespectful and not helpful whatsoever. I took my dog Beemo in to get groomed yesterday. He's a mini goldendoodle so I brushed him out extensively before the appointment as to not waste the groomer's time, but had given the go ahead for a pretty short cut anyway. When I was giving instructions the groomer seemed a little rushed, but I didn't think much of it and decided to not be too precious with the style. It will grow back! And he's a dog! After dropped Beemo off I received a call pretty quickly that he would be done soon, so I headed over, surprised he was done so fast. Nice! When picking Beemo up I mentioned to someone that it had been so fast, and the person mentioned they were rushing at top speeds because they were out of/low on kennels. The cut looked a little goofy, but he smelled wonderful and seemed happy so who cares? I left a tip and we go home. After getting home I realize there really hasn't been a full sanitary cut around the uh... Booty area, so I need to do that with scissors. This morning I heard Beemo licking, investigate and find a decently sized abrasion on his back leg that is a little bloody. I'm guessing the groomer started the sanitary - grazed Beemo, and then decided to stop cutting? Not sure what happened, as no one mentioned any problems. Would have loved to have been told he was cut so I could make sure to keep him from licking it. :( Accidents happen! However I ask Petco why the groomers were overbooked without enough kennels? Why were they rushed? Did you not have enough for the appointments you accepted? Or were others late in picking up their dogs? read more

We are on our third round of awesome classes at this Petco with trainer extraordinaire Mandy. Our golden retriever Paris, my wife and I absolutely love her! Paris has improved with each week and we are miles away from where we started with our girl. Our goal is to have Paris do rounds at the hospital where I work to visit patients. The requirements are strict, but we are well on our way to qualifying for our Canine Good Citizenship certificate, thanks to Mandy. We truly can't say enough great things about her and all of the staff at this Petco. It's a busy place and has proved to be wonderful for training Paris to behave around strangers, new dogs and too many yummy distractions. Petco's programs are both thorough and reasonably priced. I visited this location for the first time for a grooming appointment. Despite standing at the groomer's desk for 7 minutes, I was not acknowledged until I greeted the staff member who was sitting at the desk on the computer. To my surprise, I was then informed that I was 'late for my appointment' and was told that the groomer was about to take a lunch break, so I would need to reschedule. This experience left me puzzled. If the groomer was planning to take a lunch break and couldn't fit my grooming in after, when was my dog actually going to be groomed? If you're in need of dog grooming services, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. This establishment, with its lack of customer service and confusing scheduling practices, ranks among the worst I've encountered. read more

A lot of dead fish in the tanks. Very sad. I asked to talk to someone about it and was told that there is "usually" someone there to scoop out the dead fish a few times a day. Isn't the bigger issue that there are so MANY dead fish? I can't imagine any of the fish I've had in the past being subject to conditions like I saw in that store. I decided to rescue the one lone survivor in the blood parrot cichlid tank and it's been a struggle getting him to thrive the way all of my others fish have. This is a pet store. We called 8 mins before they closed and asked if they had crickets as I was talking to the guy on the phone I felt so taken care of. He said yes. He informed us that they were closing in 8 mins yet was so kind after I told him that I was not far. When we got here exactly at 6:58pm the staff greeted us so kindly. i have come to this store for about 10 years, mainly for grooming-they once injured my dog and I didn't even complain-the injury cost me about 700 dollar-Today, just had it with them , I scheduled my dog about 10 days ago for grooming but today the claimed my appointment was for a wash. The grooming staff are lazy and look for any excuse to cancel appointments. I talk to the manager she was even worse , instead of helping she made the situation escalate and wouldn't groom my dog as scheduled. This place is full of lazy unprofessionals!!! read more

A few times now the people working in this Petco have come through on major emergencies to help, specifically Dan and Jose. I'm so thankful for this Petco in our community. I'm so thankful they've stayed open during 2020 and always have well stocked shelves. They have clean, well taken care of small animals and aquariums. Warning: Grooming department - unorganized staff that lacks proper customer service - lacks quality control of their grooms - no apology for leaving my dog in a kennel un groomed for 4 hours. - went to the restroom in the meantime with a cockroach on the floor, feces and toilet paper everywhere like a gas station restroom. This is a review of the cumulative experience. I bought a Dogness programmable mini feeder. It took me a week to realize that it was a defective unit. Unfortunately, I had thrown away the receipt after the initial performance was normal. Call #1 = was notified that there wasn't a unit in store available for exchange. Was advised to call back on a Saturday when the inventory would likely be replenished. Call #2 = the following week was advised that they do not normally restock this item and it would only be available for online purchase. As I had thrown out the receipt shortly after purchase, they would not refund to my credit card but could offer a gift card. I asked if I could use the gift card to purchase the online item. They said yes. In person visit = returned the defective item. Asked again if I could use the gift card to purchase the same item online. They said yes and gave me the "merchandise card" and return receipt. 1 week later, I attempted to purchase the feeder online. I input the gift card information. There was an error message - "$0.00 is on this gift card." Call #3 = Spent 30 minutes on the phone with the shift manager, Paulo. I was notified that gift cards are NOT eligible for online purchases. It is for in store purchases only. He stated that there was little he could do. I asked for us to work towards a solution as they only item I wanted was online. He asked if I could save the card for future in store purchases. I stated that I do not typically shop at Petco and did not want unnecessary store credit. To his credit, he put in a special request for the item but hedged that it may not be approved. He tried to see if he could transfer "merchandise card" value to a different type of gift card but it was unsuccessful. So now, I need to call in a few days when their inventory shipment is confirmed. But if it was not approved, then I have to speak with the branch manager Julian who may have the authority to assist me. This has been a disheartening experience. read more

I visited this PETCO on Sept.1st, 2023. I was looking for Parrot supplies, and Centinela Feed had virtually nothing. Anyway, I was frazzled after a long day, and I found the young staff there exceptionally intelligent, helpful, knowledgable and NICE! Three young people were working, all good-humored and all went out of their way to help me find what I was looking for. They knew where everything was, and were polite and simply great. One of them had a pet bird and shared tips about birds with me. I left with a renewed feeling that humanity will survive if these are the young people of today. Maybe that's grandiose, but it only takes those small interactions to make the world a better place. (SIDE NOTE: Centinela Feed has gone the other direction, with zombie-like employees all stuck wearing horrible & unnecessary face masks so that interactions there have become depressing and weird.) Not true of PETCO where the staff is relaxed and comfortable, and it is reflected in their service. GO PETCO! You are doing something right! Liana was by our side the moment we walked into the store. She reminds me of a cheerleader. She has a very big smile and is warm and friendly. We could not find our bag of dog food because it was on sale and sold out. She checked with management to see if we could get 2 bags half the size for the one that was on sale and informed us we could. Christiaan did not know what he was doing at the register so Liana told him how to ring it up. My daughter scratched her arm on the side of a table because it was coming apart so Liana immediately took care of it. The store is neat and clean and orderly. Love this store! read more

I whole heartedly recommend the trainer, Elizabeth. I got my rescue dog and I signed up for classes the first day. It is inexpensive here, $99 for 6 classes. Petco gives a new dog coupon book. Regular price is $129. The dog area is by the front and it can hold quite a few dogs. There may be other dogs in your classes and that will help social your dog. Classes are held one day a week. Mine was Tuesday evenings. Check the paper calendar by the front door stand. My dog enjoyed all the treats and knows her command. Obey them...when she wants and if a treat is involved. One great thing about Petco is their 60 day return policy on open treats/food if your dog doesn't like it. The staff are very friendly and will help you if you have questions. The parking here is great. Only on Saturday / weekends with the dog / cat adoptions have I seen it full. read more

GROOMING- Don't even bother making an appointment online. It's literally useless. Apparently, that system doesn't link to their own schedule, and the staff displayed THE WORST customer service I have ever seen. I made an appointment online for 3pm for my small, 7 lb dog, for a wash and haircut. When I arrived, the gentleman told me that he could not do it because he is off at 5pm and the system doesn't take into consideration their work hours. He had TWO HOURS to bath and groom my tiny dog. (I believe his name was Juan). Even if it went over slightly over 5pm, apparently there was no one else who could finish the grooming. Additionally, They didn't even THINK to contact me prior to let me know this time frame wouldn't work for their man-power hours and reschedule, before I wasted my time planning my day to make this appointment. I took time out of my work day, brought my dogs paperwork (as required online), just for them to shrug their shoulders and say sorry. I came here today specifically to get feeder goldfish for my pescatarian Red Eared Sliders. Though I had to ask the same cashier twice to call for help in the fish department, she was genuinely apologetic when she realized she had inadvertently been calling for an employee who was on his lunch break. After that, someone came to help me with the feeder goldfish immediately. When she was bagging my turtle yummies (goldfish), she noticed a couple of them had parasites, so she took them out and told me about it. I am SO THANKFUL that she did that - the last thing I want to do is put parasites into my turtle tank! I ended up passing on all the goldfish and getting more pellet food instead (which should please Ciara G to no end). But I left feeling really appreciative of both the cashier's genuinely apologetic response to my repeated requests for help AND the sharp eye of the girl who did help me. I have no idea what else this place could possibly need to not get 5 stars. I am able to find everything that I need for my cat, hamster, and picky cichlid here at a low price. They even offer grooming for my smelly cat at a pretty reasonable price. The people that work here are very friendly and often helpful, as most of them own pets of their own. This place is not shady like some independently owned pet shops in the area with animals in small cages in the back for sale at high high prices. The return policy is also very fair, as I had to return a collar my cat ended up just hating and had no problem doing so. There is free parking in the back, as a plus. This was the very 1st Petco that I went to when I got my Yorkie as a Christmas gift. We went to get all the necessary supplies (potty lads, food/water bowls, food, toys, etc.) Since this wasn't the closest location to my house I ended up later going to other locations for grooming and supplies. I'm not sure how I found out but at some point I learned that all petcos had their own prices for grooming (which is absurd)! So 5 years ago I moved to Westchester, called around to all the local petcos and found out that this location was the cheapest. So now my 7 y/o furbaby has been going here quarterly for the past 5 years and I have no complaints! (Clearly if I'm willing to drive to here when there are plenty of closer locations I could go to) The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is bc there's no consistency with the different groomers and I feel there should be especially when you're a repeat customer and they have a file on your pet. This Petco gets four stars for its cleanliness, organization, and plentiful selection - but it's ultimately the company's stellar return policy that wins me over more than anything else. ______________ - After rescuing our dog from a high-kill shelter, we quickly realized that the poor fella had some unexpected anxiety issues. More specifically, we found that he was prone to damaging parts of the house (door frames, stray papers, etc.) whenever we weren't around to keep him company. We weren't too keen on the idea of putting our dog on any long-term medication unless absolutely needed, and thus found ourselves looking for a kennel. - Through some online browsing, we discovered that Petco happened to have a 50% off sale on a number of kennels, and we found one with dimensions that looked to be just about right for our dog. Since the Wilshire Petco store isn't too far from where we live, we decided to drop in and see if we could save ourselves the trouble of having the kennel shipped. ______________ - I was impressed at the level of upkeep found at this store; I had been bracing myself for the overpowering odor of pets masked by chemical cleaner. Surprisingly, I found Petco to be pretty easy on the nostrils. - We came in and happened to find the kennel that we were looking for without much fuss; an employee asked us if we needed help and pointed us exactly in the right direction. In spite of the fact that the kennel wasn't listed at sale pricing, the store manager willingly matched the online advertised price with no trouble whatsoever. We appreciated her flexibility! _______________ - Unfortunately, the cage itself didn't work out too well in the end; it didn't put up much of a fight against a full-sized Basset Hound with a love of chewing things (he's a nice guy with some strange idiosyncrasies, that's all!). After one side of the kennel basically got gnawed into a tangled mess, we were forced to return it to Petco about 2-3 weeks after the original date of purchase. I honestly wasn't expecting Petco to accept our in-store return, being that the kennel was in some pretty bad shape; however, they took the item back, no questions asked! I'm not sure if this had more to do with Petco's flexible return policy or because the employees were just being merciful - but their understanding went a long way regardless/ I give this Petco high praise for embodying the company's values of consistency and fostering meaningful connections**.
