I usually take my dog for grooming at this location, just a simple and straightforward bath and shave. However today, for the second time, the groomer COMPLETELY messed up my dog's shave. The first time, the groomer shaved a long strip of fur much closer than everywhere else on the body so she just had this rectangular bald spot. I complained about it and they gave me a refund. I would post a picture but unfortunately I must have deleted it, this happened some time last year. I took her again today and when I got her back, her fur was super choppy, bits of fur were still long, some sections are much shorter, her shave is all over the place, it makes her look very lumpy. The weirdest part is that the groomer even commented on how calm my dog is (she's not fidgety or hyperactive), so I know it's not my dog's fault that the shave is so bad. I don't know what's going on at Petco, but I won't be bringing her back. To Petco's credit, they did refund me again, but I would rather shell out an extra $10-20 for a nicer shave by someone who actually cares. 2 stars because they did offer a full refund and provided generally good customer service. read more

Stopped by on 04/30/21 around 5:30pm and was looking for some dog supplies but there wasn't a wide variety. People really need to clean up after their dogs. Someone's dog just left dog poop in one of the aisles and my partner ended up cleaning it up. They have fully stocked supplies for clean up so that was good. We were walking around and we see a giant puddle of pee in the middle of the store like it was huge. We tried to find an employee to clean it since it needed a mop but we only found one on the floor but there were a group of people waiting and there was also a long line with 2 cashiers open so it was hard to find help. Someone else reported the cleanup so we ended up checking out the beta fishes and hamsters. We ended up not buying anything and left. I wish people were more considerate to others. Clean up your dogs especially in public. The store doesn't have a lot of variety on dog clothes or shoes currently but they do have some cute hamsters and fish. They might need more people on Friday evenings though but social distancing was good in the store. read more

Do not give your business to Petco in Long Beach. My mother spent $150 purchasing items for a new cat but then decided on a puppy instead. She does not drive, so I took just two of the brand-new, unused items back for her with the receipt and was told it was three days past the 30-day return date and they "could not do anything." They would not provide a refund or even an exchange or credit for other items - and they were not nice about it. I planned on purchasing a bunch of new items for her adorable new puppy, but will never, ever visit this store - or any Petco - ever again. This review is dedicated to the complete incompetency of the checker we got stuck with. We had a coupon for $10 off $30. We had about $35 worth of product that we brought to the checkout because we wanted to use our coupon. The checker by the name of Robert (who knows if this was really his name or if he just borrowed someone else's name tag!) was so overwhelmed with having to scan a few large items we had that he completely ignored scanning our small item. The total came to $20 something dollars and then he scanned our coupon. He applied the coupon even though we did not have the minimum total! Then he noticed the smaller item and rang up the small item in a completely separate transaction and we ended up having to pay more money than if he had rang up all our items and then applied the coupon! read more

Terisa is so warm and full of knowledge about store products and tips! She was off the clock and assisted me with the best service and product advise. I only knew she was off because I seen her clock out and she had all her personal belongings. I felt so bad, I didn't even approach her, she approached me and insisted on helping me! So over Vetco. I used to get the regular simparica and for some reason they gave me the Trio one which is much more expensive. I already vented to their customer service because Chewy could not complete the order because I went to the Lakewood location in November instead of my usual one (by Nordstrom rack in LBC). The Lakewood one told me to contact Redondo because because they're the mobile one or something. I did and then that one told me to contact another # or have chewy fax it in to a secondary number. I let chewy know and they still couldn't complete it because it had been over a year since they saw my dog. Totally understandable if that was the case but they saw her 3 months ago. I found out they only gave shots to my dog with no renewal of her old prescription. Then i went in to this location to get a new prescription and they gave me the trio simparica one instead of the regular one. I didn't know that until chewy cancelled my order again. I called Petco to see if I could get the regular one instead but they said I had to speak with the original vet in order to do that but they couldn't give me her #. Then they told me to go into vetco again and get a new prescription. I went tonight and they told me they didn't feel comfortable giving me that medicine because they don't sell it. Wtf???!!! Then why not say that over the phone instead of making me drive there at 6 pm. Never going to vetco or Petco again for any of my pet needs. I don't want any flyers or mail from them. I'll be calling tomorrow morning to make sure they get rid of my information. Ridiculous customer service and shit vet work. New Petco! Lots of parking available. Very shiny and pretty inside. The treat bar is very well stocked and organized with lots of doggy junk food, even peanut butter sandwich cookies. The employees at this location seem very friendly. Maybe because it's new, but I'll keep going to this one instead of the one in Lakewood. They have all the usual Petco stuff- adoptions, grooming, classes, events, etc. It's what you expect from a pet store. It's extra nice and clean (maybe because it's new). Do not come here if you are starting out and want to grab a few feeder goldfishes. I finally got my tank situated and wanted to grab a few goldfishes to start my kids off. I drove to the Petco on signal hill today 5/3/2024. We arrive an hour before closing. I know the team was ready to leave but that should not be a reason and my kids couldn't select a pet goldfish. We can't select the color or anything. My 5 year old was bummed. He was looking forward to getting a pet goldfish. After the associate said he is not allowed to select a goldfish because they are considered just feeders. My kids look through all the fishes and made up their mind on having a good fish. Talk about getting kids with low maintenance fish. I forgot to get the name of the associate. But don't go there at night. I been there before and they were helpful with my fishes and supplies. DO NOT LET **MEGAN** GROOM YOUR DOG!!! I have been taking Nala regularly to this location for the past 4 years. I know that my dog has separation anxiety when I'm not around but never once did any of the groomers abuse Nala. Yesterday I took Nala to get groomed by MEGAN and after picking up Nala I realized her eyes were frequently tearing up. Her eye was actually bruised and inflamed. I stuck to Petsmart for years after a bad pet grooming experience at a Petco. The haircut was so bad my dog even felt embarrassed lol. Anyhow I recently moved to Long Beach and needed to locate a new Petsmart. But this Petco was closest to me. My girlfriend takes her two doggies to this location where she told me she has never had a let down. So, I gave Petco a second chance. I'm writing this review after my third pets grooming and I must say that I have found my groomologist lol. I send my dog in for a normal poodle cut ( low on the body, longer on the face, and hair left long on the ears and tail ). I sent my girlfriend to pick her up and I was so happy with her cut!!!!! I had to call the store to find out who groomed my dog. Clearly this person hadn't groomed my dog before from the difference of the last two times. All I have to say is GOOD WORK JAYNE!!!! Sunday, May 16th as I dropped my dog off to the grooming salon I was greeted by Megan. After asking her questions regarding the grooming policy that I was putting my initials on and then signing . Megan became so rude and obnoxious that she was going to cancel my appointment and refuse me service. I asked to speak with the manager. Before the manager arrived Joey another clerk at the grooming salon decided to be as rude as well. Petco need to invest money into training their staff. The staff has NO customer service skills what so ever. I then spoke with Daniel the manager and he handled the situation. I was able to get my dog groomed with Emily, she was terrific. If you come to this salon request Emily. Poor Megan and Joey think that theyre privileged and could treat and talk to customers anyway they want. So friendly, this is my go to pet store. its clean, well-lit, and has a huge selection. staff are nice and friendly, although depending on the day/time it can be hard to find a staff person. the store even has doggie classes :) - i'm the creeper that loves dogs so much i watch other people and their dogs do the class. read more

This Petco is conveniently located to my house. Not as convenient as Petsmart, but Petsmart is a bit pricer. While this store is small than some Petco's, the staff is always friendly and asking if I need anything or if I'm finding everything ok. We have recently acquired a puppy and the cool thing is that there is puppy play time every sat at 1pm. This is great since he doesn't have all his shots like most puppies we can't socialize him at the dog park yet. It also tires him out. We are taking the training sessions and Donna is great. The classes are small, no more that 5 dogs which allows for learning from the puppies as opposed to socialization galore. Like the jingle says. Petco, where the pets go. read more

Her hair was not matted and we wanted it cut. they shaved her to the skin and she looks like a mexican hairless. they charged for a cut which takes time but used a guard and just whacked all her hair off. We have an almost a 1 year old chocolate lab. We sig ed up for their training classes with Greg. Started out really well then we would show and Greg, the trainer, would not be there. We were given many different excuses as to why which lasted off and on for months. If we had to cancel we would give a days notice. Without telling us they decided to change the start time and used that as an excuse as to why he wasn't there. Greg had said he attempted to call us and see what the issue was but that the number was bad.... only 1 number was on the account, liar. After we spoke amd set up a specific time to come back he double books us and lies to our face about it. We tell him we arw done. He doesn't apologize of try to fix the problem. We talk to his manager, Fernando, who also does not apologize and after explaining the situation ans how this affects my work begins to give attitude. AGAIN NO Apology. I can not thank Megan enough she is absolutely amazing! I'm a new dog mom and was extremely nervous about bringing my little man in for grooming. Megan took the time to explain the process and go over exactly what Bisbee needed done. In his previous home he was attacked by a dog so he's usually really cautious around new people and pets but not Megan he jumped right into her lap and started giving her kisses. I recently took my puppy here to get a simple wash and grooming. The person who washed him did not put anything in his ears so he acquired an ear infection which turned into a bacterial infection of the ear. I have no choice but to take it personal because the day before I showed up for my appointment and they sent me away saying he had to have a number of shots. I took him to my Vet immediately because it scared me and my vet told me they know that since my dog is so small he couldn't get the other shots so he was confused as to why they sent me away. Jay, took time to look into it, he said his location did not carry that food. Jay, told me he could order it and have it ship free to my home pay first that was good. Jay, could answer every question I had. I come here on the rare occasion I am too lazy to drive out of my way to PetSmart to buy something I need for my Australian Shepherd. It's a decently sized store with supplies for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and fish. I do enjoy seeing the little turtles and frogs here :) I just can't get excited about this place because of its small selection of training tools, toys and clothing for large breeds, and more. I'm unsure if they are catering to tiny dogs but I usually don't find what I came looking for (and if I do find it, it ain't cheap). Plus, I hate having to hunt someone down to ask questions. It seems like the one or two employees working when I am in the store are at the register or talking with another customer so I politely wait my turn. And then when I finally am ready to pay and leave, I am looking around for someone to help me. I wish employees were available or walking around like at other Petcos or "the other pet store." Highly recommend this location for anyone with a pet. Mainly because everything here is neat, organized and CLEAN! No odor in here, you walk in feeling right at home. My only gripe is that I found a lot of items out of place or tagged wrong, this could rub some people the wrong way and cause a scene at the register. That's pretty common at most retail stores, so I won't let that impact my experience here. I came in looking for a litter box, litter and a toy for our new kitten. Wasn't too overwhelmed, got exactly what I needed and went to the check out stand. The staff were well attentive and very friendly, major plus. However, a sweet lady helped recommend a different brand of litter to me, the one I had was clay (bulk, bargain) based and could create dust which is bad for the cats lungs. She recommended a walnut based litter instead. I took her advice and swapped litters. Thank you! This would be my #1 store for all pet needs out there. read more

Jasmine is not happy to be working with animals or a petco. She should find a new job where it's ok to have a stank attitude. I took brought my dog here for the first time. My dog is sweet but very scared of everything and I told her. I had to ask her to give my chihuahua a snack so she could feel more comfortable. Why did that come from me & not the Petco groomer employee? I take my dog to the vet and she is just as scared as she was today but when I pick her up her tail is wagging and she is giving kisses to the vet. They told me it would take 2 hours but the called me 30min later saying they were done and couldn't finish clipping her nails. When I walked in they were all talking to each-other and laughing. As soon as they started talking to me about my dog smiles were gone and tone was dead. I told them that they were happier talking to each other than the customers about their pets. I had to go get my dog from the back cause she was scared as I walked out Jasmine slammed the door. They charged me full price didn't even do everything I had paid for. I want to call Jasmine out her name but I don't want my comment taken off and if I wasn't for my dog I would have told her to come outside with that same energy slamming doors. Smh I bet she only do that type of stuff at work not in the street. 4 different employee sat there and looked at me as if I was the problem. If y'all don't like your job do better. I'm sure you can't that's why y'all have them miserable attitudes. They're not even friendly to the dogs. read more

I take both my adult dogs here to be groomed. One of them is a grumpy senior dog and he can sometimes get a little nippy when having his nails cut. I took him to be groomed and have his nails trimmed but one of the groomers was unable to trim the nails because of his behavior. The next time I stopped in I saw the girl who usually grooms my boys and always does a great job. I believe her name is Maggie? She told me to stop in when she's working and she would trim them because he's never given her an issue. Sure enough she got them trimmed! She's very sweet and always does a great job on both my pups and their hair cuts are exactly what I want. She also seems to genuinely care about them.
