I rarely write bad reviews but when it comes to my pets, there is no stopping me. I brought my dog here for his grooming session at Petco Sunnyvale today and when I picked him up, the groomer told me she clipped his ear because he kept wiggling. They stopped the bleeding. Then when I brought him home, I checked his teeth and noticed she didn't brush his teeth either. When I called the groomer, she said she brushed his teeth. She lied because my dog had greenies still stuck in his teeth before he got there. I will never come back to this place again. Poor customer service. I want to complement Rebecca, PETCO groomer in Sunnyvale. She is kind, supportive and an overall wonderful dog groomer. I have a senior dog whose care I don't trust with anyone. Rebecca was recommended to me and I plan to return to PETCO Sunnyvale as long as she works there.I always purchase the individual grooming time so she works only on my dog during the appointment. It is well-worthy the couple of extra dollars for the peace of mind that I get knowing that she gives her full attention to my dog. I have had two bad experiences with rude cashiers and bad experiences with the trainer. I do not recommend going to Sunday socialization in the back of the store because it's supposed to be a safe and controlled environment with the trainer, Sarah, but my dog was attacked multiple times within 15 minutes of arrival with no supervision or break up of the attacks from the owners or trainer. Then my puppy was terrified and started getting defensive and he is the sweetest dog in the world. I will not go back to that environment. I also showed up on two Sundays with multiple other pet owners for play time only to find out the trainer was on vacation, which was known weeks in advance, and wasted my time trying to socialize my pup. They are only in it for the money and if you aren't currently paying for the trainer she will not pay attention to your dog getting attacked. I have spent so much time and money here for months but I'm done with Petco if this is how they run their business. read more

I really hate to do this, but I think I have to. This review is strictly about the salon. I brought my dog here this past weekend to get groomed. And I will admit that she was a little overdue, and I will also admit that she isn't a huge fan of grooming. However... She is a dog and I do expect that someone who is working as a groomer would be able to handle a dog. Especially a 25 pounder. Unfortunately she didn't like them grooming her feet so they called me to tell me I had to come get her. SHE WAS HALF GROOMED. 3 legs were done, one leg wasn't. Her body was done, her head wasn't. Wow. I don't normally write feedback but I've never had something like this happen to me. I saw the bad reviews, but I called and they had what I wanted (Baby biOrb aquarium) in stock for $15 less than the others around here. They had one left (and no back stock or display models.) I bought it, paid for it, opened it up to make sure it wasn't damaged to find that the box was filled with a few pieces of black wood duck taped together. It seemed like someone had taken the fish bowl itself. I got a refund and bought one down the road, at which point I discovered that the pieces that had been in the PetCo box had nothing to do with the actual item - Someone had stocked, sealed, and re-shelved a box filled with trash taped together. It was like a filling a computer box with a brick and selling it our of your van. I wish I had the 40 minutes of my lunch back. read more

The groomers here are great. They always remember my dog and seem genuinely glad to see her. The staff is always friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person. I go 40 minutes out of my way to go to this location specifically because they are so much better than any other groomer I have found on the peninsula or South Bay. read more

I forgot to mention in my first review that this store has refused to let us in with our pets! The first night we got our kitty we came 10 mins before closing (I know, a retail sin) to get her some necessities. We didn't have a bed, litter or food even. The manager at the time (haven't seen her lately) refused to let us in with the kitty (I was holding her in my arms, not walking around or anything, she was 12 oz.). She finally relented and let just my husband in for the essentials. The rest of the staff all seem bitter or angry or annoyed or just rude. Go to the SANTA CLARA one up the street! SO MUCH BETTER!!! Absolutely outdated . First of all, the staff act like they do not want to be there every time I come in. Their greeting is either condescending or there is none. When I first came in with my puppy, she was barking and the blond cashier girl kept mean mugging my puppy the whole time we were talking to the trainer. With the trainer, he seems nice but he called off or was a no show for two sessions without informing anyone. The store as a whole just looks outdated and unappealing. Newly remodeled on the outside you would think the inside would be somewhat nicer. I came here today wanting to take my dog out and thinking I might pick up a raincoat for her... I understand they are making some "improvements" to the inside but I walk in and there barely looks like anythings there and then as we walk to the dog area on one of the display shelves there was a turd just sitting right on the shelf right next to the pee pads plus all the questionable stains that were on the floor. I am just disappointed with this Petco. I hope that this improves by the time Safeway opens on Nov 12th. read more

So we've been coming here quite often to buy our dog's food and paw wipes. Their service was always OK but I never felt the urge to write a review until now...Recently, we tried their self service bath stations and my husband and I were both appalled in the condition they keep it. It was filthy! The kind of filthy where you feel like you need another bath after. Pet hair everywhere..in the sink, in the floor, in the drainage clogging it. Crickets and spiders for free in the sink too. And the blow dryer doesn't even work! People shouldn't be charged to use their bath stations... read more

Came here to get dog food and treats for my dog Bear :) First of all it is very easily accessible off of el Camino. There is a very large private parking right in front o the store so I was very easy to just get there and park. I entered the building an the petco sign looked brand new and was well lit ( I went at night) and when I entered the store I was greeted by an employee who was still bright eyes and friendly even though they were about to close in a half hour. The store was very well lit and everything was fully stocked to the front of the shelves too which is awesome because I'm only 5 feet tall and it's hard to grab stuff off the higher shelves when they are not. The floors looked like they we're just waxed and it was easy to grab my items and go. There were still two registers open and the shore that I had was super friendly and wished me a good night. She even offered me a treat for my do even though he wasn't there. I also asked questions about Vetco that comes on Sunday's to vaccinate my dog and he graciously gave me the info I needed. just wished they had more Halloween costumes I thought that was a little skimpy but it's still only September but that would've been awesome. read more

We love the Customer Service at this store! We have always been treated well, and with genuine interest in our dog Buster. Francine is one of our favorite clerks. We did the 6 wk training months ago, with Jimmie. Today we were in the store, looking at dog costumes, and for some cookies for our buddy. I saw the new trainer at the store, and stopped her and asked her advice on how to correct a recent bad habit of our dog. I do not remember her name, but wanted to commend her. She listened to the issue, asked questions and gave us several great ideas on how to correct the issue. It's such a relief, and both our dog and ourselves are going to be happier. My wife and I have a Bichon Frise/Shitzu. Cute little white dog but very high maintenance. Her hair is very fine and mats easily. We've always taken our dog to Petsmart in Milpitas. Ermelinda, the groomer, always did an excellent job! Unlike many other groomers, who would almost immediately pull out the electric clippers and start cutting away, Ermelinda would take the time to comb out and brush out Kiki's knots and mats, leaving us a cute little fur ball and not a little sheered sheep. Even when Ermelinda had to clipper cut Kiki, she would always make sure Kiki looked cute. When Ermelinda left Petsmart, we tried other groomers. None of them were as good as Ermelinda. They would not try to comb out her knots, and the clipper cuts were uneven. It was such a pleasure finding Ermelinda again working at Petco in Sunnyvale. We do not mind driving a little farther from San Jose to Sunnyvale. Ermelinda is well worth it. She is always consistent and her work is top quality...Ermelinda is simply the BEST! If you are looking for an excellent groomer, ask or Ermelinda. And remember to leave her a nice tip, she's worth it! read more

I wrote this review about 2 months ago but my computer was unable to save it on Yelp at that time, so here it is: Took my Shih Tzu/Maltese to get groomed today. My poor baby goes with us everywhere, including softball fields and she loves to roll in the dirt. You can imagine how dirty and matted she was when I took her in! Addie was our groomer and did such a fantastic job! I felt a bit helpless as this was my first time taking Ginger in for grooming, but with Addie's explanations and recommendations I felt at ease. When it came time to pick up Ginger, my kids and I were shocked!! Ginger looked amazing!! We didn't recognize her and you can tell a lot of love went into grooming her today. Addie, thank you for doing such a wonderful job, our family are super happy with Ginger's new look. I have already told friends and family about Addie at Petco! On a side note, I see a lot of reviews about the cashiers or staff in general being rude. We've been coming here the last 8 months since becoming pet owners and we have yet to experience anyone being rude to us. The staff have been helpful anytime we have questions, the cashiers always gave us a smile, and Petco's prices have been cheaper then PetSmart's on most items. Always prefer this store to others. Thanks! Update: We've taken Ginger for a bath twice since the grooming. Ginger gets a bit scared walking in, thinks its the vet, but everytime she see's Adi she's ready to get out of my arms and into hers. The staff still very welcoming and helpful. I really wish there was a separate rating for the groomers because the three stars it gets is nowhere near indicative of the service. Not only are these groomers kind and animal loving, they are really willing to get the haircut you want for your dog. My 7lb Yorkie poo loves people but doesn't like the groomers and usually comes back a terrified mess but this time she was playing with one of the groomers when I arrived, just as happy as ever. I go here often to get food and supplies for my multiple species pets, and today when getting food I noticed their Leopard Geckos were sick and dying. What kind of company supports this cruelty? They have an ASPCA adoption center here, so I expected more care for the animal wellbeing here. These geckos have spines showing, not to mention the bearded dragons had filthy living environments, poop in the water, dead crickets. Disgusting. If you sell animals, make sure they aren't dying and they're healthy! Horrible experience. read more

I have some hard dogs to groom. They are Bouviers de Flanders and honestly it takes a lot of work to groom them. They are big and fluffy. I took my male to Petco 2 months ago and met Sobhian. She loved on him and gave him the best cut ever! Recently I took in a foster and she needed to be cut down a bit from the show coat she had. Again Sobhian loved on the dog and did an INCREDIBLE job. I can tell she is learning more and more on the breed because Izzy looked like the Bouvier she should look like. THe job gets a 5 star from me and we'll be back! read more

I'm a little late on the review but I adopted a cat from the Neighborhood Adoption Center inside Petco Sunnyvale last year. It was an awesome experience. I had a cat in my hands a minute after walking in. They know more about their cats and I've ever even thought of. It's crazy how thorough they are. Lots of wonderful cats and their medical and behavior history too. Aminah helped me narrow down the right cat for me. She even helped me pick out the necessary items since this was my first time adopting a cat. If you have the time, you should also check out the bigger facility in Milpitas! Unfortunately, I was working and had to tend to clients of my own so they told me that the GM would call in the morning. Well, it's now 3pm and no call. I took my 4 pound Pomeranian Taco here for a sani-groom, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, nail clipping, and anal gland expression. Chelsea was so sweet to Taco and he did well. He gets really nervous. We came in early and had to wait until the appointment time. The price for the services was $27. I gave her a 20% tip. I think that is customary. They suggested a dental gel that they use to clean up more plaque from his teeth and said I could return it if it didn't work. I'll try it out. They were done with the services in less than 30 minutes. I will be back for a full grooming soon. read more

I have been bringing my dogs to this location for 3 years, that stops now. Their groomers do not do the 7point check or communicate with you after the appointment. On several visits my first dog's nails were all jagged, uneven and some looked like they weren't cut at all. So today we asked Leanne to do them again because we were not satisfied with the work, and Petco supposedly has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Leanne gave total attitude to the owner and the dog. I had previously stopped taking my second dog there after her last visit. They did not do any of the services I asked for, and her hair cut was so uneven and choppy it looked like they used kindergartner's safety scissors!! My dog was so skittish that day after her visit. I called the store asking for a manager and I got Edith the assistant manager. After telling her everything, she said all that will be done is to review policy with Leanne. Petco obviously does not promote customer service to the people or pets. So long Petco read more
