I understand that groomers are not certified veterinarians, but they work with living animals, and their responsibilities should go beyond simply brushing fur. They should receive regular training on how to safely handle animals, recognize signs of stress, and approach different pets appropriately. Freya, I strongly recommend that you receive additional training, especially in nail trimming. When you work with animals, their safety and well-being should always come first. Groomers should know how to work with different personalities and find an appropriate approach rather than simply refusing to serve a client when a pet is nervous or difficult to handle. I went in today to prepare for a puppy. Kaelani (spelling, sorry) helped me get all the basics and gave me very good advice for the puppy. She literally urged me to start with one of the beds on sale instead of spending so much on other beds. She knew what cleaner to use for my floors and much more. She was patient with my questions and never rushed me. There are quite many negative reviews on here about the store, but this employee really stands out. She is professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The cashier (who's name I do not know) was helpful and friendly too. She got someone to help me right away. I will go there again. read more

Why my cats no longer like their wet cat food. Have shopped this store for 5 decades. Pet Club has a wider selection of Friskies and Fancy Feast canned cat food,, but a maximum 30 day return with receipt. Petco has a maximum 60 day return without receipt as long as you are a member. I've shopped here so long that my membership phone number is my land line. When was the last time you had a land line phone number? January 2019 Petco becomes the first and only pet store to remove all pet food with a list of 40+ artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives from their shelves, including Friskies and Fancy Feast. October 2022 I adopt two white cats Storm and Sky. Introduce them to Friskies and Fancy Feast, and they can't stop eating it, eat it like it is their last meal. My last cat Stan lived to be 20 eating Friskies and Fancy Feast. August 2023, cats stop eating their canned cat food. August 2023, Petco restocks their shelves with Friskies and Fancy Feast, all with new labels saying no artificial ingredients. Purina, makers of Friskies and Fancy feast changed their formula for canned cat food in order to make their food presentable to Petco. Meanwhile I've tried at least two dozen different types of canned cat food from Petco , and my cats turn their noses up to all of them. There are internet forums about cats no longer eating Friskies and Fancy Feast canned cat food. Now you know why. Have a friend who used to feed his cats Royal Canine canned cat food, until Petco removed if from the shelves. They have them in stock now, but he's in for a surprise when he feeds his cats. I came here on Monday, 8/18 7 PM. I've been going to this location for the past 20 years. And it has been the most awesome experience for me. The employees are super nice. The Groomers are also nice. And I hate to say that this one time, this male employee that I've never seen before, was really rude to me. I basically came to do an online pickup. There was no one at the register. So I was waiting in line, and while waiting for someone to come, I just glanced a little bit on my right to see the clearance items. Once the male Employee came, I turned around, and as soon as I walked towards him, this woman behind me, just cut in front of me. And this male employee, basically just helped her. He didn't even ask if I was in line first. And he basically just brushed me off. I even with my inside voice, said that I was first in line. I don't know how she did didn't hear me, and but he did. And he didn't apologize or anything. All he said was, did I had an online pick up while she was checking out. After she walked out, he approached me about my online order. I still got no apology. I was frustrated and he didn't had the empathy to acknowledge that. So I was upset with him, and then he got defensive. I saw that my order wasn't ready, but usually when I have a pick up, I come in about 30 minutes, and the cashier will usually be nice and actually walk off to the floor to get the items. But for him, it's like super defensive voice with an attitude. Telling me that he is not able to leave the register because he is alone over there. Which is funny because when I came, there was no one here. And then he just walked away from me. So, I'm just standing there in line, left hanging. I'm confused, is he just waiting for someone to get my items or Just standing there because he doesn't want to get my items. He could've just communicated with me that he was getting someone but he didn't. He just walked off on me. And he just stand by his register. I'm in line, staring at him and in my mind, I'm like what the hell are you doing. What am I waiting for? Then another employee came, so I guess he text this person to grab my items. At least this other Employee was super nice. I really don't want to avoid this store because of one horrible employee, because I've had the best experience here always. I really hope that this Petco location does really take this feedback, because seriously, that's not OK. I've never had an employee that doesn't want to help and worst, become defensive about it. Discrimination and lying at best. Thank you Desiree Orta and Louis for going along with her. Details Below: 1. For context, I have been bringing my dog to this location Petco since Nov 2025 monthly. I have also been running behind on my appointments before and historically if I come within 15 minutes of appointment it has been acceptable. This was communicated to me via phone before. 2. My appointment today was 8:30 am. I arrived at 8:33am to find the store front door not open. I knocked and waited, no response. at 8:36am I called grooming number. 3. Desiree picked up the call and told me 1. she cannot take my dog as I didn't change my Petco profile name (my first name was Petco for cybersecurity reasons so I know when my data gets leaked from which store) and 2. she cannot check me in within 8 minutes to fit me within the 15 minutes of appointment time. Checkin does not take more than 5 minutes, her first lie. 4. I asked to speak to a manager, and she said to just push open the door as it is not locked. News to me. I went in and Louis met me there. That is when more of Desiree's lies started. 5. Her second lie: I was late by 6 minutes. I have been late before and I have never had Petco cancel my grooming session if I am behind 6 minutes. Her third lie : the 15 minute take in after appointment time is discretionary. Okay then do not set precedence with prior appointments that it is okay to be 15 minutes late and additionally, what is today's discretion based on? an empty salon? or some discriminatory factor? Upon searching on internet it seems Petco has a 10-15 minute grace period policy. Her fourth potential lie: She has an inflow of large dogs coming. I can understand that so I asked her when is her next appointment, she refused to tell me. That makes it suspicious. I further informed her I know based on history of being here before, my dog takes around 45 minutes, an 11lb chihuahua wash and trim. She told me she cannot finish in 45 minutes. 6. the only truthful thing Desiree did say, was informing Louis that some employee called in sick, which I do believe is verifiable. However, it is not the Customer's fault if you are understaffed. So instead of blaming the customer and making me waste 30 minutes round trip, just apologize and cancel the appointment earlier next time. Don't be a jerk. Don't shop here if you can't carry 25 lbs or multiple items at a time. Went there today for a large bag of dog food since I was in the area. No cart to be found. I asked the clerk and she said, "They are outside." I replied that there are no carts outside. She shrugged and proceeded on her way. I then lugged a 25 pound bag of dog food from the back of the store to check out. I know people steal carts and there are numerous options a store can employ to reduce cart theft, but apparently this doesn't concern this store, its manager or employees. I didn't even bother to learn her name because of how poorly she treated us. Spoke down on us and treated us like we were incompetent. She almost did not sell me the hermit crab because she was quite literally quizzing me to see if I had any knowledge. I let her know that while I don't have much experience I have an aide who does. If I hadn't promised my students our class pet would be there waiting for them the next day I would have turned around and found another store. This review specifically regards the in-store dog training with Sadie. My mom adopted a two-year-old dog from the SPCA. The dog is adorable, but we quickly found that she is a lot to handle. The dog seems to have been taught nothing in her first two years and was allowed to develop some challenging habits. She was unfamiliar with common household items and is reactive to other dogs. She is a handful, but a cute handful! We were scrambling to help our new family member with basic training and behavior. One of the things we did is sign up for a Level-1 training class at Petco. We thought a group class would help socialize our pet with other dogs and help her learn basic obedience. Before our training class was scheduled to begin, the instructor--Sadie--contacted us. She told us that no one else signed up for the class (likely due to it being on a weekday afternoon). She wasn't calling to cancel the class, but to ask if we minded the class being private. Even though socialization with other dogs was part of our goal, we still wanted to proceed. I asked how we would manage additional payment, because private classes cost more than group classes? Sadie said not to worry about that; it wasn't our fault no one else signed up for this particular class. That was very generous of her! We attended our first class with Sadie and she was very clear in her instructions. She was kind to our dog and to us. She was encouraging and engaged in positive reinforcement. It was a six-week class and we worked on basics like recall, sit, down, stay, wait, heal, and leave it. As the weeks progressed, Sadie created ways to increase the challenge. For example, we would practice "stay" in the aisles of the store, not just in the designated training area. Sadie was also great about reading our dog and giving her play breaks when she was becoming overloaded. There was one week when we had an emergency and could not attend class. I emailed Sadie to let her know. Sadie very graciously added an additional week to the class, so we could attend six sessions (not just five of six). Even though our class wound up being private, it was a great alternative to private, at-home training (which we are also doing) because there are so many distractions in the store. It helped our dog learn to focus on us and our commands when there were other people, dogs, and a thousand tempting food and treat smells all around. Sadie clearly loves dogs and all animals. She was generous, patient and kind--with us and our dog! The training classes at Petco are very affordable and I highly recommend Sadie. She seems unflappable. read more

This review is for the unsympathetic and dismissive interaction with the assistant manager, Annika. We tried to purchase a pet at the store and we were honest about our experience with small pets and did not hide anything. We told her we were mourning the death of our pet. Annika decided we were not fit to have a particular type of pet due to having young children and based on our past experience. She even suggested we mourn longer before purchasing another small pet. We understand and commend trying to keep animals safe, however Annika was inconsistent in her reasoning for why we couldn't purchase the pet we wanted. Annika also mentioned the type of pet equipment we had was not good for our previous pet even though we had purchased it at Petco. Annika mentioned Petco is under new management now and their policies have changed about pet equipment, yet Petco still sells the type of pet equipment we had purchased that Annika claimed was not ideal. Annika still refused to sell us a pet even if we purchased the new recommended equipment. I see from another review that Annika also decided another client could not purchase fish due to young age. This is age discrimination. There are young children who are years ahead in responsibility over many adults. We always had decent experiences at this location until now. I'd advise to go elsewhere for your pet needs and sadly be careful what information you disclose to the store because they will judge you and make the final call if they think you are responsible enough to have certain pets. read more

Came here to get my 9-month old dog groomed since my normal groomers were booked and she was in desperate need of a cut. The groomers were very nice, so one star. I've got a very reactive dog, so another star for their patience, but that's about it. Dear lord that hair cut was ugly. Kept getting asked by people if I did it myself. Give me a pair of clippers and I think I probably could. It took 4 hours to get her body done and another hour for her face. Luckily I didn't have to pay extra for them not finishing, and having to go back another day, but man. I would not recommend. Her fur was cut down more than I like and her fur was pretty uneven. I was told they had to cut her shorter since she had some mattes. I approved the shorter cut, but why is it so uneven? Sorry, but I would not come back. read more

I bring my dog here to get bathed at the grooming center in the back. I've always had a good experience. The stylists are very kind and do a good job with my dog. Tina is super gentle and kind with my dog and she did a fantastic job! Mike also did a great job taking care of bathing my dog. I felt like my dog was in good hands and he turned out very clean and well groomed. It was also quicker than I thought. They said it would take maybe 2-3 hours but my dog was ready in 1 hour. I only take my dog for baths so I'm not sure if they are good at dog haircuts. But if you are looking for a nice place to get your dog bathed, I recommend this Petco location and definitely try to get Tina or Mike. Also downloading the petco app made scheduling appointments super easy for me and if you go enough you can earn a free bath for your dog. read more

PLEASE AVOID TAKING YOUR FUR BABIES TO GROOMING HERE! We took our almost 8 months fur baby (Ludo) after 2 months of lockdown and his fur was a little matted near the neck. The groomer told us that that they had to shave of the fur to 1/8th inch and cannot un-mat the hair (basically we didn't have another option). This is our first experience with matted hair and we didn't have another option, but to get it done. We decided to do it as it was in the best interest of Ludo. After 1.5 hours, we got a call from the groomer that the dog is not allowing to trim his legs and that they would like to reschedule the appt to finish the remaining job later. This was his 4th hair cut appt (1st at Petco) and he / grooming salons never had any issues before. We were asked to collect our dog and at this point I was pissed off and just headed over to pick him up. We were shocked to see Ludo, he was half shaved, fur not dusted off - basically job half done. Even the shave was so uneven, that I could see patches of fur on one side and the other side with 1/8th inch left on his body. Bits of fur were dangling down his legs. I did tell the groomer that he never had issues before and they brushed it off with a smile saying that we can try again in the next appt. It shows negligence and complete lack of care. Brought my Golden Retriever pup for grooming, and the staff showed lot of negligence and lack of care. They rushed through the grooming and at the end my pup was very anxious and agitated - the groomer Kristen overdid the shaving and almost tortured a 4-month old puppy. It seems they got random folks with minimum training without any passion for pets to do the grooming. Other reviews seem to confirm this. Second visit had the worst customer service experience: Charged me for an item that I didn't pick up. Upon talking to the staff (Patty, Donna 01/10/20 at 2:30pm) they asserted I haven't been charged. I had to show them the receipt to make them realize they have incorrectly charged me. Instead of apologizing they became rude and said there is nothing they can do about it, I have to call PetCo head quarters for customer service. Sad to see once a good store being run by deceptive, rude individuals. Not worth coming to this store any more - such a shame it has become money making scheme for lethargic individuals who have no compassion for pets or social skills. After going there for a year or so we were told they won't take our dog for grooming anymore. They said she is going wild, but yes she does that in the beginning and the after that she gets more and more calm. They said she bite, anyone who knows dogs can say she won't bite, she is just trying to pull the hand away if she is scared or want something. The groomer would be scared if she thought she would bite, but she was not. When I came to pick her up after an hour I saw her calm. She might be little challenging but hey we can't have it all easy. I asked them to give her a buzz since her hair is curly and it tends to get tangled quite easily if not brushed daily. After a couple hours when I brought her back home she started moving her head weird.
