One star goes to the manager Shawn, that was kind enough to issue me a refund after the visit with the groomers. I had made an appointment with Saul, and he told me to be there by 12-12:30. I got there they said he is busy he has 2 other dogs ahead of my dog. So, what is the point of telling me to be there in an hr. when you know you are busy. Michelle, took care of my dog. I go pick him and I checked his eyes all black things around his eyes. So, I told her - how did she give him a bath and his eyes are dirty. Shedding , like I could't believe. She didn't even brushed him. She did after I brought him back., and hands full of hair came off. Dog didn't smell pretty like he got $35.00 treatment. Did she do his ears??? - I dought. When Saul did him last time - his fur was so silky , I couldn't be please anymore. and I tipped him $5.. Whey he didn't take care of him today , I don't know. Maybe $5 was not good enough of a tip for him. Anyways not a pleasant, visit today. Thank you Shawn for the refund and I promise you I will never come back at your store again. I been coming there for my dogs vacsinations , nail clipping and lattley spa. P.S. While I was there, they had a dog inside CRYINGGGGGGGGG. Later I asked Michelle , why the dog was crying . At Petco groomers located in Totowa,NJ, They almost burned my Husky's hair by drying him inside a crate. This is the last place I will ever come back. I brought my dog for a full grooming. I warned the groomer staff not to dry him inside a crate. I told her Husky's have a special hair, and I requested a special blow dry by hand. I don't care how much it cost. The groomer didn't hear me. She was too busy and they were short on 4 staff that didn't go to work that day. So, she make it easier for her and my dog was placed inside a crate to dry out. After that, my husky's body was all matted, his hair was all tangled. It took a specialized groomer from another place 3 continuos sessions of about 6-7 hours each during 3 continuous days to untangle his hair. They have to shaved some areas, in some other they cut the matts that were very close to his skin. Each matt was untangled by hand one at the time. It was a nightmare for our dog and for all my family. The veterinarian recommended to sedate him the last day because of the trauma. Petco's excuse was that they were short on 4 staff that day. Our dog was tortured at Petco, the staff had to manipulate his body pulling his hair and hurting his skin for hours, and no body was able to deal with the matts. Managers did not know what else to do. They offer free grooming to untangle his hair another day. When I went back they didn't take him because he was sedated. Petco does not have groomer experts, nor they have a veterinarian to deal with this type of issues. They don't have experience with all types of dogs. I won't trust this place ever again, this is why I don't recommend it for grooming if your dog requires special care. At Petco Totowa, they make appointments without considering that different breeds may require extra amount of time and specialized professionals. They should always have a team for back up. After this horrible experience, it is my opinion that this grooming place only wants money without caring about the needs of your dog. I filed a complain with the Corporate offices, they were very nice and paid attention to my concerns. Hopefully they will refund all the money I had to spent in treatments. Will see. read more

Solely grooming- Been bringing my dog here for a little over a year. Always go to Nicolette and she's AMAZING! My dog is a pitbull/lab mix who is very anxious and nervous and Nicolette makes her feel super comfortable and always takes care of my girl. This location is fantastic. The staff is helpful and nice. I get everything for my dog at this location (toys, food and grooming). I have been to many boutiques and groomers and I trust the groomers at petco more than any other place. I will admit that my dogs cuts are not perfect and sometimes I have to cut a few hairs that they missed. However, they give him a great bath with products that do not irritate him and the shampoo is so great that I buy it to bathe my dog with at home. I've been to places where my dog had cuts, razor burn and Ive found ticks on my dog after immediately after grooming and before I've even cashed out. But NOT at Petco totowa...they are clean and never have I experienced any issues with my dog there. BTW, groomers Al and Ekho are great. My dog is happy there and he comes home happy after grooming. read more

Joe is a great groomer. My dog does not pull back about going in as she has at local grooming salons. And I've tried a few. In the past I'd have to carry her out of the car. When we go to Petco to see Joe she jumps out herself and greets him happily. Joe gets down to her level and talks and pets her to make sure she is good. When i pick her up she looks and smells great and seems happy and active once we get home. I know people knock places like this but if you see Joe you are in good hands. read more

I have been in this store four times in the last month. The first time was a Saturday and the customer service woman was great. Very nice, helpful and provided a lot of good information. The other three times I was in this store was on a Sunday morning. I had the same young man assist me. He had an awful personality. And was not helpful at all. The last time I went into the store (this young man was working) I waited ten minutes, could not get any assistance in my purchase so I left. Way to go Petco Totowa...you just lost a sale. read more

please animal lovers do NOT use this petco for your dog grooming needs. while shopping there today, i witnessed a groomer being very rough while brushing a yorkshire terrier. i immediately asked for his manger. the poor dog was definitely already bathed and in the finishing stage of being groomed. the dog did not appear matted or knotted, but even if it was, the groomer was too rough. it was disturbing to witness. no animal should be handled in this fashion!!! read more

This is a review for this Petco's grooming salon, specifically, for one particular groomer, Joe. Joe has been a Godsend! After one very negative experience at the Petco grooming salon in Kinnelon, I brought my anxious dog to this location and was fortunate and grateful for how well Joe handled my dog. He was patient, calm, warm and loving with my dog, which helped him feel less anxious and more comfortable throughout the process. Joe took his time with my dog and was very gentle. Joe did not just bathe my dog, but he successfully trimmed his nails and cleaned his ears -- something that my dog would never let anyone do. I can't say enough good things about Joe. He is truly the best groomer in the business! I very highly recommend him over and above anyone else!!! read more

The one star goes to the manager for being able to do a partial return and being pleasant. We went to Petco to return our bearded dragon (landlord won't let us keep it). The cashier was the rudest person in the store. She told us we couldn't do a partial return because the store would be "flagged" for returning the dragon but not all the accessories... Ummm excuse me? WTF does that even mean? Who is going to flag you? It's all or nothing? Very confused here. I want to return everything but the light and fish tank... and you are telling me I can't (AND I Have MY RECEIPT)?! What happened to the costumer is always being right. Again, the manager was great. Terrible service . Employees have to understand our dogs are like our children . They have to be treated with respect for us as dog parents to feel comfortable leaving them for grooming services . My experience was horrible . My dog was tense of course ,she was a rescue dog ( previous owner left her at a groomers ). After she was weighed for pricing reasons of course her lease was removed from the employee. I let her down to play with the other dogs .. not once did the lady explain their leash policy !!!!!! She saw me put my dog down without the leash . She ran out the grooming door because someone opened the door to leave . I called her back in and she ran back to me . At that point lady explained the no leash policy and lady told me that my dog can not be seen because she ran out ... thank you lady !!! Should of explained this to me before you removed my dogs lease . not once did she barked ! She was not crying . She just walked out because the door was opened for her to leave !!!! She then explained cameras saw her so she didn't wanna lose her job , and went to ask a manager for permission .. I get it . I waited by the aquarium section for about 20 minutes for Tom the fish guy to finish helping two customers ahead of me (who seemed to take their time). As I was waiting, there were three other customers that gathered around needing help, Tom acknowledged all of them and told them he will be with them in a minute. When a fourth customer came to get fish, he told her the same. He finished up with the current customer and it was my turn, he turned to approach me and then ignored me and went to help another customer at which point the customer nicely told Tom that I've been waiting and he should help me first. I was only trying to return fish. Then I went to the cashier to retrieve my credit and waited in line maybe for another 5 minutes. The cashier didn't know how to process my return, mind you my fish was already returned, just waiting for the actual credit on my card. She asked the manager who completely ignored me. Finally a nice cashier came over and processed my return. A 2 minute endeavor turned into a 30 minute nightmare. Please avoid this place at all cost. read more

Second horrible experience here with rude grooming staff. Had a 1:30 appointment for my dog (in fairness, the actual grooming I have gotten there for my dog I have been please with). Got there at 1:20 -- two groomers stood in plain sight of me and ignored me for 10 minutes. One kept indicating just a minute --- but neither of them came out to help me. I went to get the manager when finally one came out. She proceeded to call me a liar (said I wasn't there for 10 minutes) and the neither of them could leave their dog to help me. I told her it was rude to ignore a customer. She said my appointment was 1:30 and I should have come then. So rude, disrespectful of my time and no idea how to handle customers. Manager was no better, said the could not leave the dog. When I said, there were two people there, one could watch the dog while the other helped the customer. He said it was their policy. Just shrugged his shoulders. This is the second time I had a bad experience with people there completely ignoring me in plain sight. They have no idea about customer service. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with these people who are either rude or ignorant or both. There was low stock of the wet food I needed so I asked Thomas if there was any more in the back. His exact words were "there is no database to see if we have anymore and Im not going to SCROUNGE around looking for you". I am absolutely disgusted by this behavior. I'm shocked to hear anything but rave reviews about Pooch Play. We have been taking our dog there for several years. The place is big and open with lots of room for the dogs to play. I have been to some depressing doggy daycares. This is not one of them. Everyone is nice and friendly and nothing but loving with our dog. Our dog is always excited to walk in there and happy when we pick her up. The manager Maggie is almost always on site and has her own dog there regularly. I trust them implicitly. read more
