Let me first start this review by saying that I'm judging every Long Island restaurant from a queens native perspective. You gotta come correct with the food or don't come at all! Pete's is as correct as it gets. I moved out to Long Island recently. Took less than a week for the queens food cravings to kick in. I looked around and found Pete the Greek. Pete if you're reading this, it's love. I commute through queens every single day. Ask me when's the last time I had a gyro in queens. Ask me when's the last time I had ANYTHING in queens other than traffic. Me and my wife are foodies in the highest form. Pete's spot is becoming a weekly habit in our household. I don't even need to ask what she wants. I just show up with the bag that has gyros the size of a family platter and I get welcomed more than a check you didn't expect to get. Let me explain, the pita is legit with no tears and soggy portions(you can smell it can't you), the veggies are fresh and CRISP my guy/gal. (your mind just made the crunch sound didn't it) the cheese and white sauce are wilder than a group of kids with no babysitters around. As for the meat of choice, pause on this but there's enough to go two rounds if you're more focused on the long haul. You're going to have to bite this thing like a gentle mike Tyson listening to Motown in the boxing ring while your eyes are closed and you're dancing under dim lights; it'll get you where you need to be, in God damn flavortown. But you can go slow. It's not here to hurt you, it's only going to crush it's competition by taking one customer over at a time. If you live out here and choose to go to a different Greek spot, either I'm missing some marbles, or you're smoking them. I want to try everything in that place. Even the damn napkins have to at least smell nice. So here we are, you've made it to the end. Congratulations. And you're welcome, if you almost walked into chipotle instead, you almost lost your destiny. But you're saved now. You chose Pete's. And your significant other now knows what she wants to eat. Here's the Scoop! Decided to try this place out on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. On this particular Saturday it was raining very hard and we felt life having a good gyro. My honey and I both ordered gyro platters. The platter was plentiful with meat however it didn't come with any lettuce, sour cream or enough pita bread. Actually 2 pieces of pita bread. I ordered a Greek salad so I added salad on my pita to create a gyro sandwich. So disappointed. The meat was overcooked as well. I enjoyed my Greek salad more than the gyro platter. 3 stars sums up my experience. I will have to return at another time to see if they've improved. It was pricey too. read more

This is my 2nd time visiting Pete The Greek! I ordered the salmon Kale salad for dinner last time. The kale salad portion was generous! This time, I stopped in for lunch and really enjoyed the salmon platter! This lunch included A very nice portion of salmon, pita bread and came with a big portion of the Greek salad! One of the best gyros on Long Island. Perfect meat, thick high quality tzatziki, fresh vegetables, fresh soft pita. Another reviewer talked about overcooked meat. I've had gyro meat at this place a half dozen times either on gyros or salads, and not once had a single burned piece, which you always get some of with other restaurants. The other reviewer said they were there on a Saturday, so maybe that was it? I'm always there lunch time during a work week. It isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for here. read more

Pete NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!! I stumbled upon them while working in Melville and was a frequent customer at their Bethpage location, now working in Bay Shore, Hauppauge is my main branch. Everyone that I have introduced to the restaurant has nothing but great things to say. My go to is the build your own bowl. The amount of food they give you for the price point is amazing. I get two lunches out of it and sometimes have leftovers from that. I haven't tried anything from them I wouldn't get again. A++++ in my book. A bit disappointed in this location, as I have had the food at Bethpage before and found it great! Chicken souvlaki was a too salty, I wish it was more grilled/charred. Greek country salad wasn't phenomenal, lemon soup was good. I do like that they have whole wheat pita options since a lot of Greek places don't. I was watching a movie based on Croatia and they mentioned Greece. All of a sudden I was craving Greek food. Through my search, I found this place. I was able to scoop up a nice lunch special that included : chicken gyro, a side, and a drink for $15. Let me tell you ...that was a darn delicious chicken gyro. Great tasting Greek with true Greek portions. I got a lunch special that came with a soda, 2 pita breads, 1 sauce with a bowl of chicken gyro and grilled veggies and it was great! There is limited seating and quite noisy but that melts away in the background on e the food goes in. We even got their roasted eggplant and it was better than the hummus as a pita dip. Can't believe I haven't even reviewed my favorite Greek spot - Pete The Greek! I've tried almost everything on the menu at both Happauge and Plainview locations and it is elite. Went to check out Pete the Greek today. Having been to Greece multiple times, I was intrigued when I saw they had pork gyro on their menu. So, I ordered the pork gyro lunch special. While I was waiting, I noticed there was no spit turning for the pork gyro. Looked like beef/lamb and a chicken but no pork. So the meat must have been prepared in the kitchen. It was good but it was certainly not Greece. The meat lacked that scrumptious flavor and tenderness you find in Greece, but the pita was nicely grilled and tzatziki was ample. It came with a nice little Greek salad, but the feta is domestic. The place itself is nice and new and clean. But I would not drive 40 minutes to got here again. Hands down BEST Greek there is. When I worked in Melville I used to order from their other location all the time and I am so happy to have them so close now! This place is awesome. I ordered from there twice while I was in NY for work and I regret nothing. If I lived in the area I'd be a frequent customer for sure. I ordered the the Greek salad chicken wrap both times, but the second time they made a mistake and gave me just the regular Greek wrap. I got the falafel lunch platter. I thought it would come with rice and lettuce & tomatoes, so I chose fries thinking it was an extra side. I was wrong & got a platter with falafel and fries. The fries were overfried.. the falafel tasted okay, but the white sauce was not to my liking so I didn't use it. I ended up eating my falafel with ketchup and tossed the fries. The hummus was decent but I didn't have anything to eat it with. The pita that the platter came with had a weird oil-like smell and taste so I tossed that as well. Coming in at a little over 15 dollars, the falafel platter was completely NOT worth it. I would rather go to a halal place for their falafel platters and skip this spot. read more

Finally this place is open, and what is available is amazing. Firstly, the service here is very professional and welcoming as the employees here are really nice and friendly. As far as my order goes, I ordered a lamb gyro combo with fries and it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered a starter of pita chips with a side of tzatziki sauce. The food here is good enough but I could get better for cheaper 1/4 mile down the road. The fries I got could be best described as "fine" and my baklava was, well... Fine I guess... The gyro was good and they did not cheap out on the meat. Food aside, I was extremely dissapointed to not only be charged for the side of hot sauce for my gyro, but charged about 10% the cost of the gyro for it, which I was not warned about and was rather surprised to see that on my reciept after the fact.
