For my recent visit to Peter Chang's weekend Bottomless Dim Sum and Tapas Brunch, I prepared by: * Fasting for 12 hours * A one hour gym workout * Two hours playing pickleball Met up with my immediate family to celebrate Mother's Day this past weekend, and I gotta say, this brunch is one of the better AYCE deals currently in NOVA. Located off of busy Centreville Road in Herndon, DMV legendary restaurateur Peter Chang opened this latest establishment in September 2024. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended for their Bottomless weekend brunch; and especially if you have a large group, as we did. There is limited parking right in front, but drive a bit further for a larger lot across the street within a 2-3 min walk. The interior is modern with the familiar high ceilings, exposed duct work, faux greenery, and Asian themed artwork. Combined with the choice of almost tropical like tables and chairs, the decor was giving off serious Malaysia vibes. When our server arrived, she explained that diners could choose items from EITHER the Chinese Tapas or Traditional Dim Sum menu, which is awesome since this allows for the culinary options of over 45+ items!!! Depending on the size of your group, I would suggest ordering 6-8 items at a time, since the plates are small (about a 1-2 person serving size). And TBH, I like this style of AYCE as opposed to the the usual long steam tables of food which just sits underneath heat lamps, and has tongs which have been handled by lots of people...yuck! And for the restaurant, it helps to limit food waste. Over the next 90 minutes (time limit for the AYCE brunch), we sampled so many items, but some of the standouts were: * Crystal Shrimp Dumpling (har gow) - wrapper wasn't too thick, and the shrimp filling was plentiful and had excellent flavor * Steamed pork and shrimp shu mai - very good version of a dim sum staple. * Beef Chow Fun - noodles could've had more "wok hei" flavor, but beef was tender and not too salty. * Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) - good amount of seasoned soup inside the wrapper with tasty pork filling * Salt and pepper shrimp - peeled shrimp was flash fried, but not rubbery. It was topped with a salty peppery crunchy topping. We had several rounds of this dish. * Black Sesame egg yolk bao - creamy and not too sweet eggy filling, inside the soft black sesame bao I will detract one star for the service, however. Im my estimation, the place is understaffed for the volume of customers. Water and tea was a bit slow to arrive (after 8 min of sitting down) and it was challening to flag down our server to order more items; hence the reason it's recommended to get multiple dishes at one time. But at the end of the meal, everyone was quite pleased and satisfied, most importantly, mom and dad enjoyed the experience. When the check arrived, our party of 10 had ordered 40 items. With tax and tip, the total came out to a tad under $400. Tbh, for the quality and variety of food, $40/person is a good deal. I can definitely envision Peter Chang's weekend bottomless brunch being a monthly occurrence for me.
After the previous bad experience, we stopped by again earlier today evening for a quick dinner and came out with a much better experience. I would give the food a B+ and the service an A- today. The parking is still hard to find given the other restaurants nearby and also the Indian store which gets a lot of In-N-Out traffic so we had to park in the parking garage behind the restaurant. We will write more when we explore more later this year.
This is a very, very tasty Chinese restaurant. The food selection is excellent, and the tapas-style plates are the way to go--smaller portions, better variety, and easier on the wallet than committing to one big dish. That said, the larger plates are totally worth it if there's something you really, really love. Everything we tried was super delicious--from the Mongolian Beef to the Spicy Dry-Fried Bamboo Fish to the Signature Pork Soup Dumplings. Honestly, this was just really good food, start to finish. The AYCE Brunch ($32 per person) is absolutely the move, especially if you're dining with friends and want to sample a little of everything. The hostess was great too--friendly and super helpful in explaining how everything worked. I would have taken more pictures, but... I got excited and started eating
This Peter Chang location is in a developed area in Herndon, offering AYCE brunch/dim sum. We usually stick with the a la carte items, such as: +the Amish Chicken Wonton Soup - good broth; chicken wontons could be better, as the filling is a bit dense and didn't have much flavor to it +the Pork XLBs - comes with 3 pieces; these were stated to be just 'okay' and would not be ordered again +the Cumin Spicy Diced Lamb; I found the flavors to be too overpowering; the hubs enjoys this dish +the Half Signature Peking Duck - well-prepared, and the staff are able to give you generous portions of the cucumbers and the scallions; the wraps are nice and thin +the Combo Fried Rice - with chicken, beef, and shrimp; good flavor and great with an addition of chili oil and soy sauce Service is fine - could check in with the tables for drink refills, offering of extra napkins, and getting the check. It's suggested to make online reservations, as the place does fill up pretty quickly, especially on the weekends. Excellent! This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in the Herndon, Reston, and Sterling so say the least. The restaurant looks great and is spacious; the food and vegetarian options are delicious, not to mention the price for them well worth it. Service is usually good when I come here but today service from Tanya S was superb. She was kind, thoughtful, and paid attention to details. She brought me a bowl for my delicious Mapo Tofu (when I didn't even ask) so that, as she said "didn't want your suit jacket to catch any splatter". How considerate! Small gestures like this speak to a person's awareness and character. I liked this restaurant before, but seeing how they've actively been taking feedback to make small changes and bringing people like Tanya on board... 5 stars! Great job.
In a newer area in Herndon just off sunrise valley, came for dinner with a large group and ordered from the small plates and dim sum. Everything we ordered was delicious and well flavored. (Didn't get pics bc everyone was starving). Saw that they do a Sunday buffet brunch and will definitely have to come back!
The portion size was incredibly small. We ordered the whole duck expecting it to serve 2-3 people, but it arrived as a small plate of sliced duck that could comfortably feed only about 1-1.5 people. Considering the duck costs around $80, the portion felt very disappointing. Customers shouldn't feel like they are paying a premium price for such a small serving. We have ordered whole duck many times at Hong Kong Restaurant, where they typically provide two large containers of duck meat for even less than this price, which easily feeds 2-3 people. Compared to that, the portion here was extremely small. It honestly didn't look like the amount you would expect from a whole duck, which made the experience even more disappointing. Other dishes portion are also so small. :(
I went here with a friend on Sunday for some AYCE Dim Sum, and was surprised at how good everything tasted. Went right at opening (11AM) and there was a decent amount of people, but didn't have to wait for a table. The Food: The food was fantastic. All the dim sum dishes we had were cooked perfectly. Full of flavor and came out pretty fast. The highlight of the day was definitely the Pork and Shrimp Shumai. Honestly one of the most tender Shumai's I've had so far in this area. Some honorable mentions: Crystal shrimp dumping, soup dumplings, Taiwanese popcorn shrimp and hot chili oil wontons! The Atmosphere: The restaurant is decorated very nicely. Modern, great colors and just well spaced out. Also, just very clean. The Service: Service was good for how busy the place was. For a Sunday morning that serves AYCE Dim Sum, it's a little expected for service to be a little slower than usual. But no complaints at all. Overall, a 5/5! Would highly recommend coming here for dim sum or even just trying their other entrees. I'll be frequenting this place a a lot more.
So who was going to tell me that dim sum is the best thing ever? Forget classic American brunch, unlimited Chinese food is the way to go! My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday morning and we are already dreaming of going back. Let me tell you why. First off, the service here was UNMATCHED. Our server was so attentive, respectful, and kind - this took our experience from great to phenomenal. We've been to Michelin-level restaurants that could take notes on the quality and speed of the service at Peter Chang. Even when every table was full, the waiters and chefs did a great job of cooking and delivering dishes in a fast and efficient way. Second, the FOOD. I think AYCE restaurants (especially chains) often get the reputation of poor ingredient quality, but this brunch deal is the opposite of that belief. The quality and flavors here were out of this world. I kept waiting for something to be not as good as the other dishes, but they just kept getting better! And of course, the ambiance. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and very clean, with beautiful art on the walls and pleasant music playing. Just looked at my photos from the restaurant, and I am already salivating. So excited to be back and try the other locations in the area!!
We went before the dinner rush on Friday night around 5 pm because we were worried there might be a wait if we hadn't made reservations beforehand. It wasn't very busy yet so we were seated right away. Our server was very attentive and gave us suggestions when we weren't quite sure what to pick out. My husband likes spicy food so we picked a few dishes that were spicy. I wasn't a huge fan of the duck spring roll but that might have partially been my fault because I'm used to the Vietnamese rice paper spring rolls that aren't fried. Other than that everything else was pretty tasty! Overall since we went with less popular menu items it felt like a more unique experience compared to our previous visit although it is still definitely fun to get the crowd pleasing bubble scallion pancake and munch on popcorn chicken it's nice to know we have the option of trying other tasty Chinese food with a more upscale ambiance than Yu Noodles for example. Of course there is a correspondingly higher price point but once in a while I like to see a more elevated take on the classics like how mint and lime in their iced jasmine tea drink made it extra refreshing. Lastly, I like parking in the overflow lot instead of squeezing in the narrow row of parking before the entrance that always seems busy.

The flavors were bold, authentic, and well-balanced, with the Sichuan dishes particularly shining through their fragrant chilies and signature Sichuan peppercorns. Went here for a lunch with some coworkers. The place looks fancy and probably gets a good happy hour and dinner crowd. I've heard great things about it from a number of people and I'm glad I finally got to try it. I understand now why people speak highly about it. We had a table for 10 and surprisingly we all fit at a bigger round table. The food came out pretty quickly and it was great! I ordered the lunch special Szechuan beef noodle soup (spicy) and it was awesome. It was a little heavy on one spice that I've never know the name of, but I finished it and I was satisfied. I should probably find out the name of it. All of the others in the group had great looking good but we didn't share. One of my coworkers got the egg rolls and said that she "burned the s**t" out of her mouth, so I guess it was pretty hot. I'd definitely come back here as they have an extensive menu including a dim sum menu that I'd like to try to get through. They made a good impression and I'm happy to give them 5 stars!
TLDR: Very solid Chinese food but can be a little pricey. The small plates are good and so is the hibiscus tea. My wife and I have been here many times and we typically like everything we get. On this most recent trip we tried the fried rockfish and it was amazing. It was crispy and a little spicy but not dry on the inside. We always get the combo fried rice since it comes with chicken, beef and shrimp. We also usually get the Peking duck. It's pretty good but not as good as the Peking duck restaurant in Springfield. But it beats having to drive all the way out there. They offer larger plates and smaller shareable plates. I think it's best to do some shareable plates and maybe one bigger plate. The hibiscus tea is a personal favorite for my wife and I. We share the teapot as it's meant for 2 people. It is the most fresh tea you're probably going to get from a restaurant. They actually put the flowers and fruits in the water and let it steep. By the time you get to the bottom of the tea pot, it is so flavorful and delicious. The service here is usually good and fairly fast. The ambiance is fairly casual but does have some theming to make it feel like it has some soul.
Yum! I'm a fan of this Peter Chang in Herndon! Everything was delicious, fresh, flavorful but not too salty! So good I went twice this month! Over the course of the two meals, I really enjoyed the entire menu lol.. the ginger honey hot tea, hot toddy, vegan hot & sour soup, firecracker salmon roll, scallion bubble pancake, soup dumpling, crystal shrimp dumpling, cucumber salad, combo fried rice, veggie chow fun, vegan spicy Dan Dan noods, dry fried bamboo fish, & salt & pepper shrimp! Next time, I want to try the flounder and sour cabbage pot! Customer service was excellent and attentive. Ambiance was trendy and nice too. Highly recommend! read more

Extremely impressed by both the ambiance and quality of food. The Peking duck was on the same level as Beijing 烤鸭 I've had in China, and biting into the crispy skin was the best part. I would recommend a half duck for parties of four or less. The sweet and sour fried fish was a bit too sweet for my taste but had a nice crunch. The beef clay pot and tofu stew were both homey comfort dishes done quite well. Note that they do not offer complimentary rice with dishes unlike most Chinese restaurants. Great service and I love the tapas style so you can get multiple dishes. Perfect spicing here. Most dishes have some kick but nothing that overpowers other flavors like garlic. My favorite dish thus far is cumin spiced lamb. The shredded pork with spicy garlic sauce is also awesome. I'm a tea lover and they do a great job with oolong and jasmine green. Enjoyed their food a lot . Came to Herndon for the first time . Waiter was nice she was able to charge us per couple . We came as a group of 10. Food is delicious and full of flavor . My clay pot flounder was yummy so was the shims i . Our friends ordered fried rice , fried crunchy fish . And lot more . We had a great time . All of us enjoyed the food .My husband didn't like his Chardonnay. I tasted it was sour . Definitely going there again . read more

I had been to the other Peter Chang's location and was happy to hear they opened one locally. I was feeling lazy and decided to get the food delivered instead of eating at the restaurant. The first thing I noticed when I received my order was that the food was packed well. One of the items I ordered was soupy, and they covered it well so there was no spillage during transportation. The other thing I noticed was a handwritten note on the bag saying that we didn't order rice with our meal, and they gave us one for free. I thought that was very nice of them! Lastly, I thought the portions were a bit small for what you are paying for, which is why I knocked it down a star. Service-wise, they were definitely 5 stars. I enjoyed all the food I ordered, especially the fried eggplant and the Mongolian beef. The flounder had a unique flavor, and I enjoyed the mustard greens in it. I definitely want to dine-in next time and order the parking duck. I've heard great things about it. read more

I was really happy to hear that Peter Chang had opened up in Herndon after visiting so many of the other locations in Arlington, Richmond, and Maryland. The restaurant is much more modern designed and clean compared to the other locations. The staff is just as fast and friendly so I was really happy to experience the consistent service. The menu offered at the Herndon location felt like a smaller menu than some of the other locations so that was a little disappointing but food we were able to order was still pretty tasty. They didn't have the grandma noodles which is generous portion of noodles in a spicy sauce so we went with the Dan Dan noodles which was good and peanut based. The Mapo tofu was cooked well but could have been better with a little more meat. The absolute must have is the scallion pancake which everyone loves because it is fun to see and eat. Given the price of the fish and chili oil, the dish could have definitely used more fish and veggies as we most got broth and chili oil in our order. Overall good experience so I will definitely be back. It's worth a try if you are in the area. read more

Ummmmm okay sooooooo I'm excited to be the first to post pics and a vid of THE MOST AMAZING, CREATIVE, DECADENT & FLAVORFULLY DELICIOUS Chinese dish dare I say I have ever had!!!!! But I'm also a bit shocked that for as long as Peter Chang Herndon has been open, no one has posted pics of this FABULOUS DISH! The CHINESE TACO TRIO is a MUST ORDER. Hands down. No lie. Try it then tell me I'm wrong. I dare you. :) I had wanted to try this "new" (new to me as well as relative newcomer to the Herndon area) Peter Chang location. Have been keeping up with the Yelp reviews of this place as I every now and again contemplated coming here. Finally the other day, I was in the area, it was a little later than high-noon lunchtime (so presumably no crowds) and I was by myself AND I found online that they had a Lunch Specials Menu which meant not a major $ investment for me to try out this place. The Lunch Specials Menu is a combo Lunch & Happy Hour Menu - NOTE: ONLY SERVED M-TH FROM 11AM-5PM. See my pic of the Lunch & Happy Hour menu. The menu is NOT extensive and you will NOT find the typical meme-ish Sweet & Sour Chicken, General Tso's, Chicken Fried Rice lunch combo specials that your local mom & pop Chinese carryouts pump out for 6 bucks. Not here! And thank goodness! I couldn't decide between the Chinese Taco Trio $18 and the Szechuan Beef Noodle Soup $18 bc the "taco" (in a Chinese restaurant) threw me off until my server explained (sort of...) what it was. So I ended up ordering the Taco Trio and..... O M G !!!! MIND BLOWN. SOOOO GOOOD. Soooo creatively flavorful and sooooo delicious. And satisfying enough for a meal for one! (I also ordered a side of rice $1 - I know that sounds sacrilege lol but it worked for me and was a delicious accompaniment.) It was like a tasting flight of 3 different of their specialty "dishes," if you will: duck, beef and chicken - all served individually on a housemade pancake wrapper (like the pancake wrappers served with Peking Duck). Served with a side of delicious sauce that accompanied the "tacos" that I drizzled over all 3 of them - BRILLIANT! I cannot find this Chinese Taco Trio item on their regular menu. Only on their Lunch & Happy Hour menu FOR THE HERNDON LOCATION so ask for it if you can't find it. But definitely get it!!! Service was wonderful - from the hostess to my server - attentive, responsive and friendly - I never felt rushed one bit and hung out in a cozy banquette 2-top and savored my meal. And the inside ambiance and decor is just as wonderful. See my pics. A large single dining area - open, airy, light and bright with front floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in a TON of natural light. Booths, half banquettes and table seating. I'm sorry to sound like a broken record but HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CHINESE TACO TRIO!!! Looking forward to trying other dishes here on future visits and will report back here on Yelp when I do. A new restaurant in the Herndon area! A great place to take your family or go on a date. It has such an elegant atmosphere with high end Chinese decor. Plenty of seating but I would still try to reserve a table, if possible. My favorite dish was the eggplant. It says that it's spicy but it's really not that spicy. The rice is not included with any of the entrees, which is quite disappointing. Highly recommend to try! read more
I stopped by Peter Chang for dinner with my family. The restaurant was clean and the staff were welcoming. We ordered family style, so I had a chance to try a variety of options (which was nice because many items on the menu looked good). My personal favorite was the "Signature Peking Duck". The food came out fast and any request made was delivered on promptly. Overall, I enjoyed Peter Chang and would recommend stopping by if you have the chance. read more

Did the AYCE and must say pretty decent deal. It does take some planning as items are cook fresh as far as I can tell. So you would want to order ahead before you finish all your dishes. Make sure to safe some space for the dessert. read more

Visiting and my uber drove by this place on the way to my hotel . It's GOOD . It's not like PF chang or pei Wei. Ordered a honey pork rib , sautéed string beans , popcorn chicken and a steam BBQ pork bun . Everything taste yummy and authentic. What I love about this place , small plates variety. I hate eat one dish and this is perfect for me . Portion and price reasonable . Definitely will come back again when I visit Herndon Virginia . read more
I'm happy to come back in 30 days and do another review, I know they are just getting going here. Slow service, had to seek out person to pay, hate that. Most things in menu were not available, something about made them in morning and they were sold out. I was there for early 5:00 dinner. No Dim Sum Platter Boxes, main reason we were there. Ordered individual Dim Sum instead, received 2 out of 3, found out 3rd was sold out too. Shrimp ones lacked flavor and no color at all, looked like a baby beluga. Other one too spicy to eat, not sure which one. Best of luck and hope things improve for you. read more
This location just opened so please take my opinions with a grain of salt (or peppercorn :) they might make a come back. In general, service was chaotic, small plates were overpriced, food was all too sweet, and restaurant was too loud. Service was hectic. We made a reservation at 6:30 but there were no tables available. Had to wait 20min to be seated! The hostess was clearing tables, seating people, taking to-go orders, and handing out carry out orders. There were long periods of time the front desk was unmanned and a long line of people waiting, crowding around the front door. Food was overpriced. Small plates were $13 dollars, when I know at other Peter Chang locations you can get 3x the portion size for $2 more. Feels like a rip off. The Mongolian beef was very sad. It tasted steamed and very sweet. The Szechuan popcorn chicken was also sweet with no mala Szechuan flavor. The Bamboo fish was hot and crispy on the outside but inside, the fish was lukewarm (like it hadn't been thawed out completely). Will not be coming back. Rather go to Mama Chang or another Peter Chang restaurant that has the same food, better prices and experience. read more

You have to try the all you can eat ($32, per person) lunch small plates (Fri, Sat and Sundays I believe). Basically a sample of almost all their dishes, except in tapas portions (small plate). I love the pot stickers, Amish Wonton Soup, and Mongolian Beef. The quality of the Chinese food is great! read more

We were excited to try this new Tapas-inspired Chinese Cuisine but we were sadly disappointed :( We got the Wonton soup, Tofu, Cucumber Salad, Noodles, and Stir-Fry. Although the decor and service was both unique and attentive, the food was lacking flavor, drowned in oil, and gave us all nausea afterwards. read more
Service was pretty good. Not what I usually expect from a Chinese restaurant but this is Peter Chang. Just like the location in MD, the interior and dining set is a bit fancier than what we normally get from other local restaurants that serve similar dishes. I enjoyed the selection of foods that we ordered. Our server recommended the spicy founder and it was a huge portion of spicy numbing peppers, thick glass noodles, lotus roots, radish, and soft flounder meat. I really liked this dish that is perfect for sharing family style. We also ordered the spicy wontons which we also liked but nothing too special. The kids enjoyed their pork soup dumplings and beef chow fun. The chow fun was also nothing too special but still good. The Napa cabbage with tofu skin dish wasn't out of this world but I loved it. I love tofu skin and cabbage and it's a great vegetable option if you like those. We plan to come back because we are fans of Peter Chang. One nice perk is not needing to drive to MD now that we have a location in VA. read more
This newer location in Herndon is certainly one of the nicest Peter Changs around. I've gone several times already and haven't been disappointed. The atmosphere is bright and open with beautiful decor. Some of my favorite dishes are the bubble pancake, basil eggplant, and mushroom chicken. They also offer dim sum during certain hours, which I'm looking forward to trying. read more

When you don't celebrate a Christian holiday and everything's closed, where do you go? A Chinese restaurant, obviously. My husband and I snagged a noon reservation at the new Peter Chang in Herndon, and let me tell you, it was a feast. First impressions? Stunning! The decor was an absolute vibe--gorgeous colors, tile floors, and an ambiance that says, "Yes, you're about to have a memorable meal." We were greeted, seated, and immediately faced the tough question: how do we NOT order the entire menu? Spoiler alert: we basically did. The table? Packed. Like, "Is this a buffet for two?" packed. Top marks go to the cumin spicy lamb--so flavorful it made my taste buds do a happy dance. Close second was the Peking duck--juicy, crispy, and paired with hoisin sauce that could win awards. Third place? Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was dangerously addictive. But wait, there's more: Hunan twice-cooked pork belly, shrimp dumplings, pork soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and hot & sour soup with shredded duck. Yes, all that for two people because #HolidayGoals. I washed it down with a refreshing Asian mojito, and honestly, I'm ready to come back for round two. Word to the wise: get there early if you want their dim sum platter box--it was sold out when we arrived. And if you haven't Googled Peter Chang's backstory yet, do yourself a favor. I have been back six times since my original review trying dine in, carry out, and delivery. This spot quickly became my new local favorite. Peter Chang's has worked through a lot of their recipe inconsistencies that they had to begin with. For example, the beef in my original review I mentioned having a lighter sauce has since consistently been a heavier darker sauce I think most people expect and prefer. Their staff is very friendly and polite, although it can be slower at times they are generally packed so I give them grace. The restaurant is beautiful but as mentioned it is very loud and the parking is tough, so I prefer to get delivery. A MUST TRY here is mamas basil eggplant. It is the one dish I have to get every visit, I'd eat it every day if I could. If I had one last meal I'd request this eggplant. I have never had eggplant made like this anywhere else, the bond flavor and unique glutinous coating is to die for. Tofu skin salad, and tofu skin rolls, fragrant beef, and their shrimp dumplings are other personal favorites. Peter Chang's does not hold back with flavor and the spice levels are perfect for my taste. I would highly recommend giving this spot a try! My one complaint I still have is that there is no soy sauce, chili oil, or vinegar given dine in or takeout without special request.
