Came last Saturday for a late Mother's Day dinner with a party of 10. Before I made RSVP, I was a little apprehensive because of the food reviews and the opinions of my friend. Gonna try to make this review quick and painless. The customer service was great! From the time I called to make RSVP, to the time I arrived, and all throughout dinner was great. They had our table ready 15 minutes before my RSVP time and sat us immediately (although my entire party wasn't there yet because they were looking for parking). The food on the other hand was meh. IMO, it's overpriced American Chinese food. I was expecting something a little more authentic, but that wasn't the case. If you've never been here before, and like American Chinese food but want to enjoy a nice dinning experience, then I would definitely recommend this place. I'd compare it to PF Chang's for anyone that needs a restaurant comparison. Food recommendations - DO get the crispy pork belly from the appetizer menu, it's delicious! Our party ordered several entrees and although they're 'individual servings' we made it into family style. Everything else we ordered was just okay (see pictures attached). Dry-fried green bean: Very flavorful and good! Chicken Lomein: Very basic, wish I had sriracha to give it more flavor - not worth the carbs, unless you like it bland. Smoke Duck Roll Bun: The Roll/bun was soft and sweet, but I didn't really care for the duck. Kind of wish I could just order the roll/bun on its own. Three peppers beef on hot pot plate - Good, but again, not great, the beef was tender and juicy. Shredded duck with onion and scallion - the duck just didn't do anything for me, I'd say skip this recommendation. Shrimp with snow peas: I'm not sure what the exact name of this dish was called, but it was pretty good, very flavorful and not too salty. read more

Just a Richmond visitor and was brought to Peter Chang's by a co-worker after we grabbed drinks at Bingo up the block. We had no problem sitting down right away at 7:30pm on a Tuesday night. Service was great, immediately received waters and ordered pretty quickly after. The appetizer (chicken dim sum) was absolutely delicious, especially with the sauces. Ordered the General Tso's (off of the lunch menu - you can order anything off of there for dinner even though it doesn't tell you that anywhere). The up charge for that is $6 but still very worth it. The pork belly appetizer was yummy but so rich a bite or two will do. We all enjoyed our various entrees, wish I could remember what they all were. Mine was Kung pao chicken and it was yummy. There's not really anything much in the way of decor or ambiance and the brisk takeout business kept the door opening and we were cold at our table. I've ordered delivery from them a couple of times in the last months as I'm just not ready to venture into restaurants yet. I've been in person numerous times prior to COVID-19 changes, though this review will be about the food I had delivered. First, you must always always always order the Bubble Pancake. It's amazing! How can something that is basically just bread be soooo good?? I don't know, but even delivered it didn't disappoint. I don't know what the sauce is, but we really love that, too. We ordered egg drop soup, which always seems too gooey at a lot of places. Never fear, they get it right here! It's actually soup consistency! Yay! Finally, we ordered a few appetizers, Vegetable Spring Rolls and Cilantro Fish Rolls were the standouts. The vegetable spring rolls are so fresh and crisp. I never review, but I have to send a warning out. I just found a ton of small, hard black plastic in my golden mountain of chicken. Most of the shards were sharp and one of them was melted into the food. They also got our order wrong in the first place and when we got the corrected order, it had plastic all throughout. read more

Went here for the first time last week since they've first opened in Scott's Addition. The place is not bad but I can see the parking being some sort of issue because it is off on Broad and I'm not too sure if there is a parking lot around (most likely is), but I'm great at parallel parking so I have no problem. Sorry, back to food! Started out with the order of egg rolls, pork fried dumpling, and the kung pao buns (which is only available at Scott's Addition). All the appetizers were really good. I would pick Scott's additional because they seem to have more selections on the appetizers, especially the kung pao buns. Those were really good and were sad that they were not on the menu at Short pump. I would suggest trying that with another appetizer to have your sense of adventure. My husband ordered the double sauteed pork bellies. It was VERY good. I know I may be saying that all foods are good, but I shiz you not....I always look up at some of these suggestions before I go out to the place. I suggested my husband to order this because of the picture on this website, and I don't regret my choice (for my husband!) haha. I did end up ordering shredded chicken to share. Peter Chang is one of the best restaurants in Richmond hands down. We go to their short pump location all the time and recently we tried their downtown location as well. There are some minor differences in the menu. As a vegetarian sometimes restaurants like these can be challenging but Peter Chang has a plethora of veggie options. In fact, they can make any dish on the menu with tofu and vegetable substitutions. The dry fry eggplant is hands down our favorite thing on their menu. We also tried their dry fried tofu recently along with shredded tofu skin and they were perfect too. This location has braised eggplant dish and it's one of the best things I have ever tasted. The only reason to give it 4 stars is their Kung Pao tofu. I would skip this dish. It's too sweet and sort of one note. My husband got their lamb chops and loved it as well. As many yelp reviews as I write and as many times as I've eaten here, I don't know how I haven't written one yet. I can't rave enough about this place. I have probably eaten at both of the PC locations in RVA about 30 plus times, and a few locations outside of RVA. It hands down my favorite Asian place in town, and I've been to them all. There is a reason PC is a legend and such a following. I have yet to try a dish I didn't like. Authentic as it comes, reasonably priced, fantastic staff, clean restaurant, and tasty as hell. In at 8pm on a Saturday night and it wasnt crowded which was awesome. We had a very sweet waitress who was very knowledgable about the menu (short-cut blonde hair, give her a raise). We ordered the scallion bubble cake and noodle salad for apps. The bubble cake was pretty awesome but the noodles left something to be desired....like it maybe couldve been hotter (fresh out the pan hot). Entrees included kung pao chicken and shredded duck. First visit to a Peter Chang restaurant - and will DEFINITELY visit again. We started out with the Bubble Pancake. It is SO fun when it comes down the aisle to you, it literally looks like a bubble. It's not just fun to look at it's quite tasty. And the sauce they give you to dip it into is kind of a curry\ginger sort of thing it is SUPER yummy! I was in the mood for appetizers, so we got the steamed Veggie Dumplings and Fish/Cilantro Rolls. Both were SO good. The Fish/Cilantro Rolls weren't too fishy, it was the perfect combination of flavors. We both got soup, my companion ordered the Egg Drop (yummy) and I ordered the Crab and Corn Soup, which I LOVED. The Crab/Corn Soup includes chicken and was SO good. The only downside is that it's a large portion, so for at least 2 (although we could have gotten three servings). But (upside) I brought some home for later. Unfortunately there's a lot of construction on Broad Street right now, BUT if you get there early enough you'll find parking super close around the corner. Probably the last time we order from this place. We'd rather just go without Chinese food. Everything tasted the same. The only seasoning was soy sauce. That was the flavor of all three dishes, a shrimp, a chicken and a beef. The beef chow fun was all chow fun noodles and two small, thin slices of beef. I got one piece, my husband the other. Half way thru I started licking through the heavy, glutinous noodles looking for more beef. I found none. Then my husband picked through it certain I'd miss some pieces. I did not. There couldn't have been more than 2 oz of beef in this dish. Pathetic, particularly given the price. The shredded chicken dish was about 3/4 onion. I love onion, but it should only have been a part of the dish, not most of it. There are far better restaurants worth a $100 tab for dinner for two. I have been craving Chinese food. So today my husband treated me to Peter Changs. It was our first visit and we did get it to go. I was so hungry I forgot to take photos. I ordered the large balloon bread and it was ok. Everyone was raving about it but I found it a bit tough and a little flavorless. We also ordered the spring rolls and the soup buns. Even with those parameters I had a couple of options left so I pondered the food I needed and I knew: lo mein was a must. There's only one place in Scott's with lo mein and that's Peter Chang's. After seeing Wrinkle In Time at Bow Tie (which was severely underrated. Sure, it strayed quite far from the book but it was still great!), we walked over to Peter Chang for some dinner as a party of three. Luckily, it was 5:30 because they only do reservations for parties of 4 or more and, after 6, you definitely want a reservation. We had been before but all agreed to be adventurous and try new orders. For starters, the menu online is not their complete menu, so don't try to craft your perfect meal prior to arrival. There are plenty of tasty surprises awaiting you! Our standard appetizer is the cliche lettuce wraps but they truly are delicious. This time we tried the duck egg enveloped in pork. It is essentially an not fried Scotch egg. You can definitely, 100%, without a doubt, no questions asked, never order these and be very happy with your life. It should have been a warning that our waiter (who has worked there for 2 years) had never tried them. They, by their nature, are very fatty and greasy. Swing and a miss but this was what we get for being adventurous! For my main, I had the mapo tofu which was really delicious and a huge portion. I was able to take 3/4 of it home for seconds (and thirds!). It is listed as 'very spicy' which is, thankfully, reliable advertising. You can opt to add in beef or flounder but, honestly, the tofu was so plentiful I felt that there was plenty of substance to the dish without additional protein. Our table also ordered a seafood bowl (flounder, shrimp, scallops) in a pumpkin bowl (think Panera bread bowl). The seafood was apparently very tasty as it was finished within minutes and the pumpkin was noted to add a nice amount of sweetness to the dish. The seafood in stone pot got similar reviews just minus the sweetness. We will definitely come back and continue exploring the menu! Just learn from our mistakes and avoid the duck eggs!! read more

Apparently their other locations are better per word of mouth, but when we visited the downtown location, the food didn't meet our expectations. We arrived for happy hour and were disappointed with the mojitos: weak (like just club soda weak), not made fresh (mint was not muddled), and had a weird after taste. We tried several of the appetizers: The bubble pancake was simple, yet tasty with the side sauce, and the fried eggplant was our fave! Their signature dish, crispy pork belly, was flavorless and more fry than meat. Another signature, lamb chops, were unevenly cooked and the duck szechuan bland without the millions of chili peppers they sprinkle on top. Not to mention, the staff could not keep up with the pace of the crowd. I had high hopes because I thought the takeout was kind of average, but had heard so many good things about the restaurant. The ambiance was lovely. The place is clean, neat, and nicely decorated. The menu seems to have a good amount of variety, but most items lack descriptions, so I can't be sure. The staff was incredibly patient and attentive, so full marks for them! Unfortunately, the food remained just average for me. The fried rice was only half fried... Half the bowl was just white rice. I had the shredded chicken with onion and scallions which was mild and fine, but nothing extraordinary. We had pork belly and an order of spicy cucumbers for the table.
