While he was serving in the United States Air Force and stationed at Beale AFB, CA he gave the best care possible to my infant son who was diagnosed with Congenital heart disease. My son went on to have Thoraic surgery and Open Heart Surgery at the age of four. Dr. Ambrose had said he would like to know how 'Roy' faired but that he didn't want any sad news. Well, we did get in touch with Dr. Ambrose through the help of the internet. Beyond awesome. Dr. Ambrose has an amazing wealth of knowledge, and my kids ADORE him. They actually ask to go the doctor!! Dr. Ambrose does not over-react, but does order tests/meds as needed. A big part of why he is so good is that he spends so much time with the family. Most doctors have one foot out the door because the try to jam in so many patients. Dr. Ambrose takes his time, knows his patients, and will answer any/all questions. He even wants the questions from the grandparents! Now, if you need to be coddled or you are sensitive, you might have a hard time. He has a fantastic but very dry sense of humor, and he can be a bit off-color sometimes (but it's really, really funny stuff). He is very, very direct. He will not sugar coat things for the parents, because his job is to protect the kids. And he'll ask you to find another doctor if you don't want vaccinations. I don't even know where to start. We love love love Dr. Ambrose. He has been my girls Dr. Since birth. My oldest is almost 10. He has been the only Dr. We trust with the care of our girls. We trust in him 100% he has never steered us wrong. He used to be my pediatrician. My girls love him as well. He is close to retirement and we are extremely sad. He is like family. I have been taking my 3 and 4 year olds to Dr Ambrose for approximately 2 years. I always loved the convenience being so close to our home and the luxury of usually being able to get an appointment same day if necessary or with very little wait. I also like the fact that the waiting room was always empty and we were in and out, very rare for Pediatric offices I think. I believe it was this way due to the limited insurance plans Dr Ambrose accepted. For this reason we specifically chose our health plan based on what Dr Ambrose accepted. As far as Dr Ambrose himself, he can come across a little dry, sometimes I wasn't sure how to take him, but he grew on me and he grew on our son, who is very very particular with who he engages with. We were at the point with him that he would engage with Dr Ambrose and was the perfect patient. Dr Ambrose ran a few special tests on our son on different occasions and thankfully they always came back normal but I appreciated Dr Ambrose's pre-cautions. With this being said, I felt like we had a little relationship and sensed that he truly cared. Today this all came to the total opposite feeling, I don't feel like Dr Ambrose cares the slightest about his patients, or at least not my child/children. We were informed a month or so ago that he would be re-locating by his office staff. This week I had to schedule an appointment for my child's kindergarten shots. The office staff asked me for my child's Ins info and I stated I didn't have it available but that I could get it and call back, but I did ask if she had his chart because it should be there. She said very sincerely no, no, don't worry about it, I'll pull the chart and get the Ins info. The day before our appt the office called to confirm the appt, no mention of Ins. Today, I took my child to the office for his appt, checked in, completed pages of forms (not sure why none of this transferred over) and waited for 45 minutes in the waiting room for them to tell me they do not accept my insurance. I was beyond upset. Why didn't they verify this prior?? Why wouldn't the Dr staff have informed patients when he was transferring that their Ins was no longer going to be accepted? I asked to speak to the Dr and of course that didn't happen, instead the staff said that he said to tell me, "he's sorry but he is just an employee". My child didn't even mean enough to this man for him to at least come out and sincerely apologize? Maybe I am totally in the wrong to think that a Doctor actually cared and that this isn't just business to him. I am so thankful my child was not sick today because then what would I have done at 4pm on a Friday? I do not recommend this Doctor and definitely not the new office he is an "employee" at. read more

My now 15 yr old daughter was his patient from her birth until she was about 3 yrs old. I had 2 horrible experiences with him that resulted in my healthy child developing a pulmonary illness and asthma with zero history on both sides due to him saying she had a cold and it had to run its course and I was being a typical first-time mom and overreacting. He turned us away twice. I went and got a 2nd opinion from a different local pediatrician who ordered a chest X-ray and said she had a pneumonia and had scar tissue in her lungs from lack of proper medical treatment. He treated me like a clueless mom and brushed off my concerns even though I had my first child at 30. Terrible bedside manner, condescending attitude, with a holier-than-though God complex. He even asked me about my daughter's father who I was married to at the time and still am and told him he was of Jewish descent and I am of Mexican descent and he tells me so matter-of-factly that none of my children by their Jewish father will ever be considered Jewish because I'm not. He even acted shocked that my full Jewish Ashkanaze husband was with me. Keep in mind Dr. Ambrose is as Jewish as they come himself! After that I just could not respect his opinion or medical knowledge. I mean really? My children aren't Jewish because of ridiculous, old Jewish, passed on folklore says so??!!! I have a DNA test to show all my children are in fact over 50% Jewish just like their biological father. Shouldn't a doctor rely on scientific facts?? I still blame him to this day for my daughter's continuous, chronic pulmonary illness and it fills me with a seething anger. I even went back into his office with her lung X-rays in hand to show him he had misdiagnosed her and demand an apology and I never got it his pride matters more to him than anything else. read more

Dr. Ambrose is one of if not the GREATEST pediatrician there is! I have been taking both of my children there since they were born and they absolutely love him! They actually look forward to their visits because they know in the end there rewarded with gummy bears! The whole staff there is amazing as well. Everyone there is helpful and knowledgeable! Hands down to doctor Ambrose. He has THE BEST bedside manners. I've dealt with a lot of physicians (for work and personal reasons) and he is by far one of the best in explaining and being patient with a crying baby. He has such an amazing down to earth personality and his staff is great as well. I took my son in because he was sick and Dr. Ambrose made the visit very easy and pleasant. I wish I could take him back with me to Toronto LOL. He doesn't say what my pediatrician in Toronto tells me. "look it up on my website". Dr. Ambrose is the best pediatrician ever. He has incredible bed side manner, we loved him from our first visit with him when I was 39 weeks. 3 says before delivering. He showed up at the hospital the night my daughter was born and stayed until we were comfortable and didn't have any other questions, and visited everyday we were in the hospital (4 days total, including Sunday) and never made us feel like we were wasting his time or that he had better things to do like most drs. He loves his job and it clear he does. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a new baby or any child in general. His staff is knowledgable, helpful, and super friendly as well. Dr Ambrose has been our sons doctor for 7 months and he is great. When he was born at San Antonio Regional, Dr Ambrose would stop in several times while we were there just to check on him. Very kind and sat with us to answer any questions. Office is centrally located in Rancho at Milliken and Church where there is plenty of parking. Its on the first floor, easy for strollers. Have taken our son in for same day appointments many times, there has never been an issue. The office is never busy, appointments are quick and efficient. We enjoy coming here! read more

So I scheduled Dr Ambroise as my pediatrician after reading the great yelp reviews and he definitely lived up to his name. Very friendly funny and thorough with my sons check up he asked a bunch of questions and also answered tons that I had so I definitely didn't feel rushed as what normally happens during doctor visits. He is also pediatrician with great resources and give me a list of books and videos to check out in regards to sleep training potty training etc. was very thankful he was accepting new patients and will definitely be keeping him as our pediatrician. getting to his office is a bit confusing as it is in a huge medical building with several entrances so make sure to call before parking, Best bet is to go through urgent care entrance read more

The BEST doctor and staff ever. After trying a few of the area pediatricians, I'm so glad we finally found Dr Ambrose 6 years ago. He is super knowledgeable, understanding, and patient. My kids love him, too!! Anytime I've had an urgent need for my kids to be seen, they have squeezed us in same day. The only thing I don't like is that there is no well kid vs sick kid waiting room, but we have rarely waited very long for our appointments anyways, so it's not a big issue. I am beyond pissed off! First of all I'm pregnant and need to select a pediatrician for my baby so I had this appointment set 1 month in advance because apparently he meets with parents after patients at 6pm on Tuesdays only. I drive almost 45 minutes to find the office is closed. Now when I Made the appointment his sorry ass staff wouldn't let me finish my sentences and rushed me off the phone. Now today I drove all this way to a closed office. Such an incapable staff to not put appointments in the computer, no reminder, no voicemail to say "hey he's leaving can u come in sooner" nothing! I wish I had her name. I am Livid! I read good things about dr Ambrose but I guess I'll never have the pleasure to find out for myself because he sucky staff can't handle her work load and was so busy she forgot to put this appointment down. I picked Peter Ambrose through reading great reviews. After being my childs doctor for 2 years he never grew on me and in fact the more he "treated" my child the more I disliked him. He was never professional in the way he talked to me or even my family. I didn't mind at first being a sarcastic person myself but it got to a point where he was unprofessional as a doctor. He never showed compassion. He never had concerns to figure out what was wrong with my child... And so much more that a doctor "especially a pediatrician" should express. I finally decided to move on after my child was hospitalized and he said he'll be fine and with a ton of unprofession comments and discharged us with out running further testing. I ended up back after calling 911 because of my child having a seizure and emergency team working on him and being transferred to a children's hospital because my son was very sick. I gave 2 years of treating my child to a man who could care less. So I write this for anyone looking for a decent doctor to look elsewhere unless you don't care that your child gets the care they deserve then he's your man. Dr Ambrose has been in retirement mode for years. The staff is extremely rude. They called 1 day before my child's required shots were scheduled. I just asked why were was the appointment being cancelled because we scheduled it 2 months prior. She became irate and started yelling at me. I advised her that our family had been bringing our children for 17 years. I asked tto talk to the Dr. Instead he had her call back and advise us that we were no longer welcome. I never really liked him,but my wife her good things 17 years ago. Trust me he could care less about your children. If you come in stressed about your child being sick,he will call you dramatic and that you worry to much. He constantly made fun of my wife saying she worried too much. Mind you my son was born 2 pounds and 2 months early. He was in the hospital for 67 days before he was finally released. I think any mother would be concerned when your child would run a 104 temperature, but he always made it about my wife being over dramatic. Trust me if are a new mother don't go here. You are luck to get an appointment and if you do it can be cancelled at any time because of all the vacations he takes and his golfing. Why start a relationship with someone who is ready to retire..oh and piss off the staff because you will be banned for life like the soup natzi.(Seinfeld reference) 17 years and we banned for asking a question..Why even start with this part time Dr...Trust me don't do it. The scary thing is he doesn't want any more patients because it will cut intyo his vacation time so what kind of treatment will your child get. I love Dr. Ambrose and team. We have been there over 10 years. Some of the bad reviews i can see their point. He is very relaxed and has been doing this for many years. I dont find his confidence as rude or condescending to my motherly worrying. We had a brief insurance change to HMO and went somewhere else. That was a mess. Sick kids everywhere, over booked scheduling, rushed no personalised care and they had no clue as to who my kids were. We for a year paid cash to keep our visits with Ambrose until we changed our insurance back. No way could i ever get those other pediatricians on the phone in the middle of the night with questions about fevers etc. I understand he is older and likes to take vacations and golf on Wednesdays as he should he has worked a very long time. I also appreciate his passion for being a pediatrician and sticking with it at least until my kids are grown. They just don't make Doctors like they used to. This message is meant for the billing department for Dr. Ambrose office. Dr. Ambrose is an AMAZING doctor and my girls have been seeing him for 7 years now. But apparently after 7 years I called to get my daughter an appointment when I was told over the phone "my account was in collection and they sent me to the billing department" OMG !! The rudest lady I have ever spoken to in my life was on the other line. She tells me that we can no longer see Dr. Ambrose because we had a 30$ bill that was outstanding and was sent to collection ?!!!!!!! What, seriously a 30$ bill and we can NO LONGER EVER see my children's pediatrician ? Makes no sense, on top of that the horrible lady on the phone tells me she called and spoke with me and told me that we had a past due balance and if we did not take care of it we were not going to be able to see Dr. Ambrose anymore, WHICH WAS A COMPLETE LIE, this seriously NEVER happened !!!! This woman I spoke with should be fired she was absolutely awful !!! But I do believe that things happen for a reason, after getting off the phone with this dreadful woman I contacted back the office and they told me that apparently Dr. Ambrose is getting ready for retirement and or "starting to slow down" so the office is moving and they are merging there business with another set of doctors. Definitely NOT the type of office I want to be in. So I guess it works out for the best .. we will miss Dr. Ambrose and are so sad that this happened all over a 30$ bill but stuff happens and this is just a warning to any future or current patients. read more
