I had a dental emergency with a chipped molar and swollen gums. The dentist I had been seeing was so busy I couldn't get an appointment for weeks! Thankfully, I found Dr. Lee. It turned out, my dentist had missed a cavity next to the tooth with the chipped molar, which, based on the x-rays, looked like it would need a root canal, in additional to the chipped molar and swollen gums. Photos showed I had somehow sliced my gums likely while flossing, which led to the swelling. Swelling aside, I'm not sure how my dentist that I was going to see every 6 months for cleanings, missed a cavity when it was visible to the eye! Thankfully, after removing the decay, the filling took care of the problem and I didn't need a root canal. During the treatment, Dr. Lee took photos and showed me what he was doing every step of the way. Needless to say, I now have a new dentist and appreciate the transparency in billing (he even returned some money back to me because my insurance covered more than anticipated), level of care (with the latest in technology, you don't need to take his word for it, he'll show you all the evidence), honesty and patience. His office is super clean and he treats you like family. I also appreciated the time he took on my teeth. I didn't feel rushed one bit! He was meticulous and thorough.He doesn't schedule patients back to back -- it's a level of care I haven't experienced ever! He doesn't have an assistant so it's Dr. Lee you correspond with to schedule appointments and handle billing, which I was not used to, but he's thorough, makes sure you know how much the treatment will cost up front so you aren't blindsided, and is skilled at what he does. I have been through 5 dentists my whole life. After visiting Dr. Lee, I have found my forever dentist. More than a dentist - he treats you like a family member. I wasn't aware alot of dentists office were just franchises, unlike Dr. Lee who has his own practice. I visited one of these "franchises" prior to visiting Dr Lee." And they told me I needed a root canal. After visiting Dr. Lee,, he assured me that I did not need to get a root canal done but instead just a filling. He was very thorough in not only explaining, but actually showing on the screen the issue. Work was done in scheduled time and not one question went unanswered. One of my biggest concerns was the pain that was caused prior at a different dentist. Dr. Lee, was very careful with making sure that there was no discomfort and no pain and did a very thorough job! Even though he was closed, he was super responsive and was able to help me on a Saturday morning. It turned out I needed a filling and crown, and he was able to do it same day! Not having to come back for multiple visits was a major value add. He had top notch and new technology, and was honest with his assessment. At first we thought I might need a root canal, but he was thankfully able to avoid it. The night after doing the work, Dr Lee also followed up by text to make sure everything was feeling okay. If you ever experienced a tooth ache, you know that the term "tooth ache" is a gross, major understatement. This ache is a constant sharp, dull, throbbing pain stopping you from eating, drinking and sleeping. It is even worse if it happens on a Friday. Under these conditions, while other dentists were out for the weekend, Dr. Peter J. Lee opened his schedule to see me within the same day as a new patient. During the examination, he exercised the highest degree of professional skills, and he diagnosed a procedure for the following Monday morning. He recommended Ibuprofen for the pain. Monday morning he reexamined the bad tooth and concluded that a root canal was not necessary and a simple filling of the tooth would fix the problem. It did. The pain went away and the tooth is back to doing its job, free of pain. In my opinion, Dr. Peter J. Dr. Lee is a very skilled dentist. I've gotten 2 crowns here this week and they look just like my own teeth. No open margin with my crowns. He was able to saved my hopeless premolar, I cracked it while eating. Also my teeth are a mess. The crowns were made on-site, each one was less than 45 mins wait. I like it way better than the ones that they're making at the lab. I understand why he values his time bc he doesn't overbooked patients. He took his time and worked diligently on my teeth. I've been on the dental chair more than people eating dinner so I could tell if the dentists do a good job or not. He's blunt when he talks but he just being honest. IMO, honesty is the best policy. I understand it is a great inconvenience to miss the appointment but throwing out remarks like "typical 22 yo" is insane. To imagine I almost took the reschedule despite the disrespect. I broke my front teeth at the age of 12 and had crowns for 18 years. My crown became loose while eating and I found Dr Lee's practice. We setup an appointment for a consultation and we set a date for the weekend to have the crowns replaced. That night the crown took a turn for the worst and became more loose than prior (almost falling off). Dr Lee made an accommodation and saw me the next day. Turns out my crowns were really old and my tooth broke underneath the crown. Dr Lee was able to save my tooth and install a new crown, despite all odds. We then scheduled an appointment to have my other crown replaced. The appointment system is really easy and painless. Where do I start! This guy helped me so much! I went to him initially for a second opinion on ab achy tooth. I had a really bad experience with a root canal some years ago and he helped me immensely! Probably 4 dentists looked at that same tooth and said nothing...it only took him 2 minutes to see what was really wrong! Also, he is super patient, explains everything and flexible! I ended up having to get a tooth pulled and replacement but I was so stressed I wasn't going to get it done before my wedding! He made it happen for me and it's such a big stress relief! If I could enter 10 stars then i would! Here's mine and my wife's experience with Dr Lee: When we moved to Orange County from Arizona in 1990 Dr. Meany was our choice for a dentist. As time passed we were happy with his professionalism and pricing. At that period in time Dr Lee joined his practice. When Dr Meany was not available we would see Dr. Lee and we were both happy with his work. After a few years Dr. Meany retired and Dr. Lee took over the practice: We then continued to see Dr. Lee on a continuing basis and have been very happy with his work. We moved to San Diego in 2014 and elected to keep Dr. Lee as our dentist driving 85 miles each way every 4 months for cleaning, inspection and dental work. We love Dr. Lee and his staff, Laure and Danielle. When ever we had an emergency he has always managed to squeezed us in. Dr. Lee is a consummate professional. He spends the time to ensure that each procedure is done correctly. I had come in earlier this year to get a crown replaced, and Dr. Lee made sure the crown fit precisely and that there were no tiny gaps between the crown and the root it was sitting on. Dr. Lee also has a special milling machine that made the crown on the spot. There was no need to wait for the crown to be made at an off-site laboratory. I was looking for an in-network dentist and Peter Lee came up with good reviews on Yelp. I visited his website and requested an appointment. Ten emails back and forth later, I received an appointment confirmation addressed to a "Leslie", that's not my name. I thought it might be a typo and ignored the minor mistake. Normally, when I have an appointment, I would set up a reminder on my phone even though my previous dentist always calls me the day before to remind me. This time I forgot to set up the reminder. My appointment was scheduled for 2 pm today. I received a phone call from Peter Lee at 2:09 pm. I immediately remembered my appointment and told him I forgot about the appointment. Before I could finish my sentence and apology, he hung up on me!! I thought his phone or my phone must have dropped. He would not be that unprofessional. I text the dentist with my apology asking if I can come right now as I am only two minutes away from his office or if we can reschedule. He replied that a $50 deposit is needed for any future appointment and me to "Find another dentist". He claimed that a reminder text was sent out yesterday. I think the text went to a "Leslie" because I did not receive a reminder text from his office. He proceeds to send me an email in addition to the text to "Find another dentist". So now I know, my phone was not dropped, he did hang up on me mid-sentence. I am so happy to found out how rude, obnoxious, and unprofessional Peter Lee is now rather than later. A good dentist is typically patient and meticulous. He is definitely not patient with the way he handles an unintentionally missed appointment. He is not meticulous as he does not get my name right even though I filled out his appointment request page with all of my name and contact info. I think I will go back to my old dentist, Dr. Rice Dentistry, even though he is out of network. The office is extremely professional, kind, and understanding. They are willing and happy to make accommodation because they understand that life gets in the way at times. First I called him, and he texted me back instead of answering the call. Which I'm okay with, but not very professional during business hours. I asked a simple request- how much he would charge me to remove my permanent retainer. The retainer has bent, has a sharp edge, and causing pain and discomfort in my mouth. The doctor then asked me if I have insurance. Knowing very well that insurance has nothing to do with this. I asked how much he would charge me- not whether its covered. I provided the name of my insurance. Then the doctor asked me when my last X Ray was taken, and I replied to that as well, but also asked why it was relevant to my request. Then after all of this, the doctor says "Sorry I am not accepting Delta at this time." - I never asked once to use my insurance for the procedure. I asked how much it would cost ME, not my insurance. I voiced my frustrations to this, reiterating that I would pay myself and not use insurance, and then the doctor says "Sorry I do not remove retainers. You need to see an orthodontist." Then continues to say that Delta doesn't pay for PPE and so he won't help. So which is it? Because I never asked for this to be done under insurance. Because Delta doesn't cover PPE, the dentist lied and told me they don't do a procedure which I know that any dentist or orthodontist can do with minimal tools. Then he proceeds to tell me that he doesn't do free dentistry and that I am demanding free dentistry! I SPECIFICALLY asked how much it would cost me, and he refused to give a number!! Then when he finally decided to re-read my messages and realize that I am asking for the cost to ME for the procedure, he directed me to some other business instead of helping a patient in need. I am in pain, with a sharp metal object in my mouth, and this dentist did nothing but argue insurance and prices with me. I didn't ask for insurance coverage once for this, but this dentist wants to take as much money as he can from patients on visits, clearly. When I reiterated my concerns once more, all I received was a "Delta does not pay to remove retainer" while for the past 20 minutes I'm trying to get it through his thick skull that I will pay for it myself. Then he texts me and says "I could tell from your first text we are not fit. Bad vibes. Your subsequent behavior proved me correct." I'm sitting here with a sharp piece of metal cutting up my mouth and was very kind when I reached out looking for a quote. I have all the texts to prove it. The dentist tried to extort me before I even got a chance to visit. Then I reply telling him he's a liar and voiced my frustrations, as he treated me like a number, not a patient. Then he has the nerve to say "My schedule is completely booked for the next three months with patients who pay in full. I do not patients who are seeking a discount." Not once did I ever ask for any relief or discount or anything in any of my messages with him. I told him he's an awful person for treating me like this. Then he has the nerve to tell me "Who is the awful person?" "If you can not afford treatment, so blame the Dr. You make no sense bro." These were literally his text messages to me. Unbelievable. Then says "There are tons of other dentists in Irvine. So if you do not agree, move on to the next one!" Then has the nerve to say the following after I tell him he has no sympathy for humans: "Whatever. You can't afford treatment so you are upset. I see it all the time." I have the whole text thread saved. I am very well off and money is not a concern. I specifically asked for the outright cost which I was never given to begin with. I am looking to pay for it outright, which for some reason this dentist could not quite get through his head. I do not recommend this dentist whatsoever. Very questionable business practices and clearly does not actually have care or compassion for patients in pain or in need. Now I'm back to the drawing board trying to find someone to help me. Edit: Do not listen to the Dentist's response. He is a liar. I never asked once to negotiate the cost. I simply explained what I needed done and that I thought it could be quick- because I needed it done quick and most places aren't able to take patients that quickly. I have all of the texts to prove it. We never even discussed cost, because he never provided it. Also- I have several texts with the doctor belittling me and treating me inhumanely. He said I was poor and couldn't afford the visit and thats why he treated me poorly. Money is not an issue at all. He didn't even give me the cost.
